Google play books, and Amazon devices like the Kindle, have parental controls that allow parents to stop their children from downloading explicit sexual/violent books and comics. But the Android Kindle App does not seem to have any. (Despite being a far more popular way for children to read books than either of the above). Does anyone have a solution for this? (I googled a lot but only got useless info: instructions for how to do it on Kindle Fire or other Kindle hardware; a family feature on Amazon https://parents.amazon.com.au/ to which you can add neither your kids Android devices nor their accounts; etc).

Recently Amazon disabled all in-app purchases from their apps distributed through the Play Store. As I'm a frequent user of the kindle app, and not a fan on switching to my browser instead of in-app purchases, I've opted to install Amazon AppStore and through it the Kindle for Android app. Now, though, the Play Store always displays an update available for the Kindle for Android app. What I would like, is a way to tell the play store not to try and manage this application. I've already disabled automatic updates, but the issue with this is that every time I touch "Update all applications" I have to deal with a popup to confirm I want to ignore KFA updates. It's not that big of a deal, but i'm wary of mistake on my part later down the line. EDIT: My phone is not currently rooted, and the manufacturer enforces a factory reset to unlock the bootloader. As it stands I'd prefer not to have to root the phone (Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro)

Most of the books on my Kindle for Android app display with the same font, which I find good enough for reading. enter image description here But I have just one book which uses different typography, and it is bad enough to distract me from the reading experience. I checked maybe 10 other books and none displays that way. So I assume that this must be a publisher font. Kindle is supposed to support reset of publisher fonts since 4.3. I have 4.4.0.71 and can't find how to do it. A solution from Amazon help says > 1. While reading, press the Menu button and then select Change Font Size. 2. Next to Publisher Font, select "on" or "off". But I have no such option. **If this is a publisher font, how do I get it to normal? If it isn't, why is this book displaying so differently from all the others, and again, how do I get it to normal?** (device is not rooted). The below screenshot shows what I see in the settings for the book. (There are no font settings in the two real Menu buttons, this comes from the aA button which changes the book's appearance). It also shows the strange font with low readability (both screenshots are taken at the same line spacing setting). enter image description here

I have the **Android Amazon Kindle** app installed on both my **Galaxy S phone** and my **Archos 10" tablet**. I keep the software updated so I'm sure the latest version is installed. I am logged in with my account on both devices. When I press the STORE button I go to the inprog Kindle store. But when I press the STORE button on the Archos it starts the web browser in stead. Now, I have bought ebooks before from both devices and I am sure that previously, the Archos also displayed the inprog store. It's much easier to use the inprog store display than the full Amazon web site version. **Does anyone now what could have changed this behavior ?** I looked for some setting but found none.

I have a tablet running Android 9, with the latest version of the Kindle app. (The tablet is a Galaxy Tab A (8.0", 2019), but that shouldn't matter.) It's not rooted. In the Amazon Kindle app, I've enabled "Download to SD Card" (which causes books I've bought from Amazon to be stored on the external SD card) and "Show Personal Documents in Library". The latter option makes *.mobi files I've copied into the "Books" folder in "Internal Storage" to be visible in my Kindle library. The path to the folder is /storage/emulated/0/Books. The external SD card is visible as /storage/0000-0000. Copying *.mobi files into /storage/0000-0000/Books doesn't make them visible to the Kindle app. Is there a way to copy my own *.mobi file (not purchased from Amazon) to a folder on my external SD card so I can read them with the Kindle app? I'm guessing there's a particular directory path, but a Google search has not revealed what it is. (I know I can install books by emailing them to myname_blah@kindle.com, but I'm looking for a way to just copy the files to the device.)

It would be nice if I could also use the 3rd party dictionary in my kindle-App. But I have a feeling that Kindle uses a proprietary dictionary.

I'm setting up a Nexus 9 tablet for a friend. I flashed the Android v7.1.1 March update image then installed the Amazon Kindle app from the App Store . The problem is that when I open the app and tap the *Start Reading* button the app hangs with a blank white screen. The Android app runs find on my OnePlus 3 with Android 7.0, so I'm wondering if something in the latest Android version has broken it. I guess I could flash a v7.0 image onto the Nexus 9, and I will do that if no-one here can confirm the problem with v7.1.1.

How can I make the Kindle app in an emulator work just like on a physical device? **Background:** I tend to buy ebooks directly from publishers and then send them to Amazon Cloud Drive to be converted into what Amazon calls "Personal Documents." Doing this allows me to synchronize annotations and bookmarks between my phone and tablet, just like with ebooks purchased from Amazon. However, I'd like to get those annotations and bookmarks on my computer screen -- it's more convenient for me to type code while the ebook is up on the same screen, rather than having to keep shifting between computer and tablet. As others have noticed, the Kindle Cloud Reader and PC/Mac-based readers don't support Personal Documents fully (I believe the Cloud Reader doesn't support them at all; the native apps, last I knew, allowed you to sideload documents but don't synchronize them, but it's been a while since I tried); so I thought that since I have some Android virtual machines (using [Genymotion](https://www.genymotion.com/)) I might as well install the Android Kindle app there. I was able to do that, and when I go to Amazon's Manage My Content and Devices page I can see the new device, but I can't seem to find a way to assign that device an Amazon email like my other, physical, devices. I also never see the Personal Documents in its list of books the way I do on my phone and tablet. It used to be the case (around October 2014) that when I ran the Kindle app in the emulator, it displayed a progress spinner and "Checking for new items & syncing…" for an indefinite amount of time (I remember leaving it spinning for over an hour); now that doesn't happen, but still my Personal Documents didn't show up. In addition, if I reboot the virtual machine, the app asks me for my login information as if I had never run it on the device before. **So my main question is:** how can I make the Kindle app in an emulator work just like on a physical device? **Secondarily,** I'm wondering whether the Kindle app somehow detect it's running in an emulator, and refuses to allow full access for that reason -- and if so, how; or is this some sort of subtle bug in the interaction between emulation and app? *I originally asked this [on Ebooks beta StackExchange](https://ebooks.stackexchange.com/questions/2491/amazon-kindle-app-and-personal-documents-on-android-emulator).*

Can the Kindle app scroll mobi files vertically?

Because when I click 'books on device' in the kindle app, it shows none (so I'm guessing I need to download them from somewhere).

How to change device name for Kindle in Nexus 7 2nd Generation (2013)
I just got a Nexus 7 2nd Generation (2013) with Android 4.3. I installed Kindle, and the device shows up named `[my-name]'s Android Tablet`. In earlier versions of Android, I can go to the About screen and there's a "Device Name" option. It's not on my About screen.

I use the Kindle app for Android. I had 'bought' one of the classic titles which they have - *War and Peace*, which, like many of the classics, had no cover image. They have since updated the title on the Kindle store with a picture for the cover. I would like to update the title on my device so that it shows the cover art. How can I do this? I tried "deleting" the title (it then goes to "archived items") and then redownloading it but this did not work. I also checked in *Quick App Clean Cache* to see if there was a cache I could clean, but Kindle is not listed. I also tried doing a 'sync' from within Kindle. None of these steps has helped. My device is a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate, running Eclair yet (I think I'm getting my Froyo sometime this month). If possible, I would certainly prefer to do this in such a way as to not lose my positions in the books I'm reading.
