I have had my WhatsApp account backed up to my personal Google Drive account, taking up a total space of 841 MB. I now have access to a Drive account with more space, and I'd like to switch the backup to there.
I tried changing the settings on the phone to back up to the new account, but I only get 549 MB there.
Why would the two backups be so different? I'd like to delete the original one to free up space, but not if it means losing data.

I have a Samsung Galaxy running the latest version on android, the mobile had a lot of annoying popups, so I took a full back up of my phone on Google Drive where I got 2 TB of storage. and I specifically went to WhatsApp and I did a full backup which went successfully. So I thought I am fine now and I have all the backup on google drive and google photos.
I did a factory reset for my Phone, and on startup I chose to restore from Cloud and I login to my google account. now all my apps were restored, including WhatsApp. But when I open my WhatsApp and I confirm my mobile number, WhatsApp shows that it is looking for Backups and it found the backup I did earlier today. But when I chose to restore from this backup, i am prompted to enter a password. First, I thought this need to be my google account password, but the login failed, I also tried the old phone pin code, and it did not work either. so what is this password? As i remember I were not asked to enter a password when using WhatsApp and when I backup it? so can anyone help? how i can restore my WhatsApp backup on google drive? without this password? or what is this password?
Thanks

I'm using my Android device to scan receipts for warranty receipts, or for expensive stuffs. I'm uploading the receipts to Google Drive which works well, except that it's a long process to scanning each receipt.
I open the Google Drive, enter the right folder, click the button for creating a new file, choose to take a new picture, take the picture, then rename the newly created file to something more fitting i.e. name of item or store name and date, and then enter my Gallery and delete the picture from the camera roll because I don't want it there.
Also, if possible, I'd like to crop the image, or even stitch 2 pics together if the receipt is too long.
Well, you get the picture. Is there a better way of doing this?

If I go to WhatsApp - Settings - Chats - Chat backup, it tells me the Google account that my backup is at and the size.

Google Drive doesn't even tell me the size of the backup! But it tells me the date or time of it which verifies with what the WhatsApp app shows.
How can I copy it off?
I tried Google Takeout picking just Google Drive. But that just gives a 9MB file. So it didn't include it.

For speed reasons, I would like some functions like the camera to still use the on-board phone memory, but would like files downloaded from Google Chrome and Google Drive to go to the external microSD card by default.
Is there any way to do that?
I tried the following on an per-app basis:
- **(1) Google Chrome -> Settings -> Downloads -> Download locations** //
But it says the SD Card does not have enough space, despite having 100's of GB of space that I can still transfer to after any download to the phone's memory
- **(2) Google Drive -> Settings** // But there's no option to change the default download path there.

I have a personal Gmail (Google) account created some years back for my Android phone. Recently I have been given access to a new Gmail account by my employer.
When I open the Gmail or Gdrive apps they both show the two accounts and allow me to easily switch between them (Gmail has a useful combined *All inboxes* option too). So far, so good.
However if I open a mail sent by my employer to my work Gmail account and click on the *Save to Drive* icon on the attached PDF, the pop-up dialog box allows me to save the attachment only to my personal Gdrive account; it doesn't list my work Gdrive account at all.
So how do I directly save an attachment from my work Gmail to my work Gdrive?

> We are writing to let you know that you will be out of Google Account storage once your WhatsApp backup begins counting toward your X GB storage limit in at least 30 days. Learn about WhatsApp backups on Android .
The solution suggested by Google is disabling backups with Google. To move to another phone, they have this tutorial .
But, well: it's probably better to keep some kind of backup. My best idea so far is creating a new Google account just for the WhatsApp backup.
Is it possible to sync that WhatsApp backup with another account? If so, how? Any other better solution?

My WhatsApp has been giving me trouble for a long time regarding backups. It started a couple of months ago when I pressed back up now and I received an error message saying "unable to back up". A little while later, my WhatsApp suddenly crashed and when I tried opening it, I received an additional error message saying
> Something went wrong with your chat history, don't worry you can restore your chat history from backup. If you don't restore now you won't be able to restore later.
>
After pressing "backup now", it responds with "unable to retrieve old backup from Google drive."
I tried looking up different solutions and I did everything including, resetting the cache, disconnecting and reconnecting my Google account, turning off my phone, and playing around with every possible setting. I have plenty of storage on my device and Google Drive account and a great internet connection, so I had no idea where the problem was. The only solution that helped was when I switched my WhatsApp number to a different number. After that, I was able to back up to Google Drive normally as it should be. Unfortunately, I had to reset my WhatsApp from new and start again which was really irritating, on the bright side I was able to do backups moving forward.
My WhatsApp has been working fine ever since yesterday when it gave me the same "unable to back up" error message I'm all too familiar with. Not surprisingly, the next day my WhatsApp crashed and the situation that happened a couple of months ago repeated itself.
Please help me understand what's wrong with my WhatsApp and if there are any solutions or fixes I can do. I've scoured the internet and I haven't found any solutions that have worked.
The problem now being when I press backup now I get an error message "unable to backup " in response. Any idea of what could be wrong/if some file is corrupt how to fix it?

I have a S8 android phone with microSD card where all my pictures are stored. Now I need to change phone, and I've just learned the recent phones don't have microSD slot and all goes to Cloud Storage like Google Drive.
Except... Isn't Google Drive limited by, among other things, your capacity to access the Internet? What happens if you take a lot of pictures or videos somewhere where you don't have signal/internet reception? Does it not save the pictures or the videos? Furthermore, does the transfer of videos eat all of your data when you get signal back? Does it slow down the phone if you have shitty reception and you get off-on when it's trying to upload?
The sellers in mobile shops were just able to answer 'It works.' and I need a bit more specifics...
For information, I often need to go to places with no phone signal, that's why I have concerns.

When opening PDFs in "Files by Google" it always opens in Drive PDF Viewer. I want them to open in Adobe.
I've looked online and got a lot similar issue, but none of the fixes work for me.
Here is what I found in other posts and tried:
- Clearing cache and storage in Drive and Files.
- Selecting "Don't allow app to open links" in "Open by Default" for both Drive and Files.
- There is no PDF option in "Setting"->"Apps"->"Default apps" for me to change.
- Denying Files the "Modify system settings" permission.
- Temporarily installing another PDF viewer to force a default app prompt when opening PDFs from Files (which it doesn't).
- Temporarily installing another file manager and selecting Adobe as my default PDF viewer. It doesn't carry to Files.
- Disabling Drive, opening the PDF from Files while Adobe is my only viewer. It opens in Adobe automatically but goes back to Drive as soon as I enable it again.
- Disabling Drive, opening the PDF in Files while I have multiple viewers available, selecting Adobe and clicking "Always". It goes back to opening in Drive as soon as I enable it again.
I am using a Google Pixel 8 Pro with Android 14. I had the same problem with my Pixel 6 for the past two+ years and possibly my older pixel 3, but I don't quite remember.

I won't bother you with the tedious details. I need to restore whatsapp messages from and old local backup and WA, not even searches for local backups.
A little more tunning: I've not used for some reasons (that are pointless to mention) for about a year. Last time, I created a backup (both local and GD) and uninstalled WA (I now assume this deletes the GD backup)
Nowadays I have to use it again.
The official guide claims (it's ridiculous) that you can ONLY restore from local backup on Android 9 or below
https://faq.whatsapp.com/6181521285295518/?helpref=hc_fnav&cms_platform=android
I thought that I could install WA on an old A9 phone, backup to GD and then install on my new phone. The information on the page is completely inaccurate. WA latest version does not even try to find a local backup on A9 or any other.
I used WA almost from it's launching and it's most vulnerable, annoying weakness is to restore messages from a backup. As long as I recall, every time it was a complete headache to restore the messages. My backup contains nearly fifteen years of messages, or in other words, about a million. Also, the stubbornness of WA of use primary storage, despite the Android (useless) adopted memory schema, resulted in memory filling up very fast (one of the reasons I dropped using it)
I also tried
https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/237475/whatsapp-not-doing-local-backup-restore-not-google-drive
but there is no solution there.
My conclusion at the time is that, if you DO NOT have a GD backup you're lost. A very nonsense restriction, and since you can not upload a backup to GD, again, you're lost.
How can I restore a local backup on A12 if I don´t have a GD backup?
Please no "why you didn't just kept WA running?","why you did that?" or "If you have not used over a year, why do you need to restore your messages?" comments or solutions
