I began to use Google+ Auto Backup for the photos, and I silly used the full quality option. So when I run out of space, I decided to switch back to standard quality, so not to use the allocated space.
Problem is, the already uploaded photos didn't switch to the standard quality and kept on occupying space. So I deleted them and tried to start over the back up with the standard quality. But it's only uploading new photos and I cannot find the way to make it upload the older photos in standard quality. How to solve it?

How to prevent WhatsApp images and other local pictures folders appearing from Google+ Photos app?
I've enabled auto backup for camera photos except local folders. Although local folders are not uploaded to the cloud, Photos app keeps showing these folders and making a mess. I'd like to have this app clean with only camera photos just like Dropbox's Carousel do.

Short of going through all 16k++ photos in the new app what are my options?
I know that I could use Picasa, but again I'll have to download all pictures first.

I have about 5000 photos on my phone right now, and they are all backed up on Google+.
I know I can delete photos without removing them from Google+ by using the Photos app and selecting "On Device."
I also know that I can select multiple photos by selecting one, and then clicking more.
However, to quickly remove all photos, say, older than a month, I would need to individually click on 4000 thumbnails. Plus, when I do this for just 10 images it takes ~10 seconds to delete them. This would be a nightmare to do for 4000 photos.
Is there a way to batch-delete lots of photos from my phone, while ensuring that they won't get deleted from Google+?
(Alternatively, is there a way to delete-all locally, and selectively re-add photos from Google+?)

Edit (2017): This is obsolete ever since Google added the ability to "Free up space" from the menu in the Photos app.

Ever since I upgraded my Google+ app on Friday (3.3.0.40049528) one of my favorite features, Image Instant Upload, is not working.
One of the big changes in [this release](http://gplusproject.appspot.com/tis-the-season-for-shipping) was that instant upload could now upload full size images, rather than limiting them to 2048px.
* I have plenty of available storage (4GB out of 5GB available)
* I have force stopped the Google+ app as well as cleared the data at least once
* The phone (Verizon Galaxy Nexus) has been restarted a couple of times
* I am using the stock camera app for my testing
* The settings were not changed when I updated Google+, but I have confirmed that Instant Upload is set to allow photo uploads on wifi as well as mobile data. I do not have "upload only when charging" turned on, and there is plenty of battery available.
Any ideas? Have I got a bug that needs an update?

I have a Moto G 2nd gen, with android 6 (marshmallow).
It appears that the phone contains some photos and videos which I can see through the Gallery, but I am unable to import to Photos.app on OSX.
The camera app is setup to store images on SD.
I have tried connecting the phone as a camera (PTP) and nothing shows up.
I have also tried connecting the phone as a media device (MTP) and use the android transfer app, but the pictures do not show up in
DCIM/
under "internal storage", and the "sd card" file list doesn't contain a DCIM/
directory at all.
I have tried wiping the cache partition, ejecting and re-adding the sd card but nothing worked, I cannot find these files.
Where are they, and how do I get them out of the phone?

Google Photos (previously Google+) automatically backs up your photos from your phone to your Google+ / Google Photos account.
They give you the option to backup a compressed version which is unlimited and free, or you can backup at full original quality but it uses up your Google Drive storage quota.
I have always believed I have had this setting turned off, but I noticed I am using 8GB of my Drive quota due to Google Photos. Which makes me think it had been backing up the full versions for some time previously - Right now the option is set to the free compressed version.
(I am assuming the 8GB is due to the original uncompressed option being turned on at some point? Unless theres another thing that would use up this space?)
Is there a way to identify and remove all of the high resolution photos from my Drive / the Photos that are using my Drive storage, but still keeping scaled / free version of the photo.
I have just noticed you can choose an option to show a Google Photos folder in your drive of your Google Photos. I have just done this hoping I could somehow filter by size or quota used but this doesn't seem possible.
I just want to try and identify what is using the 8GB

I have taken several photo spheres on my old Nexus 5.
Now I have migrated to the new Nexus 5x, how can I watch the photo spheres offline?

Since the mobile internet is really limited (something like 2 gigs per month if you're lucky, my private account has 500 megs) I don't want to use a large part of this contingent just for viewing one single sphere. And W-Lan isn't always available.
Furthermore: The downloading time is really annoying, it takes so long even with a fast (100 mbit) internet connection via wlan - I'd like to zap through the spheres just like I did on my old Nexus 5.
I only use google's own "Photos" App and google's cardboard app for viewing a photo sphere.
They don't seem to chache anything, as soon as I switch off wlan and mobile data spheres that I have just opened a moment ago using wlan are not available.
I found no matching entry in the preferences of the "Photos" App and the "Help and Support" pages are just as helpful. This is getting really frustrating and I'm starting to wonder how stupid an app can be :-(
There is an option to "Download" the spheres but all that this would give me is a plane image.
My Motivation
==========
Actually I'd like to show my family these spheres using the pretty decent card board vr :)

There are a host of issues that you run into when running stock Android in a country that blocks Google's servers. The first issue you run into is the setup wizard getting stuck trying to do updates. I already found a workaround for that one. But I can't figure out how to fix the following:
- Wi-fi connections always show "Connected, no Internet" with an exclamation point icon.
- Doesn't automatically connect to saved wi-fi locations because it thinks there is no Internet.
- Photos app doesn't show any photos at all except when Airplane mode is on or when connected to a VPN.
Other issues such as the Play store not working are to be expected. But I wish I had workarounds for the 3 issues above. The "Connected, no Internet" warning must be using some Google service to detect connectivity. Can it be changed to use some other service that is not blocked? The Photos app not showing photos seems an unexcusable offense because the photos are stored locally and browsable with a file explorer. Why does Google need to go online at all to display photos on the phone?

I'm using an Android Phone by LG. Model #LG-D520. It's known as the OPTIMUS F3Q. I want Google Plus to automatically upload every photo and video that I record.
My Auto-backup options for photos are Wifi+Cellular. My auto-backup options for videos are Wifi-Only.
This morning I took 5 photos and 1 video. I am currently sitting in my home connected to my Wifi network for the past several hours. Yet only 2 photos have been uploaded. It doesn't seem to be uploading the video or the other photos? Why? How to work-around this bug?
This problem in such a basic operation is very frustrating. It has plagued me for several months and I have seen other people complaining about it in other forums.

First off, I am technologically "challenged", so I usually have trouble performing the most basic tasks on phones/computers, etc.
Recently my phone battery has been dying way too fast and for no apparent reason. Yesterday, the phone had no power although it had been plugged in all night and it repeatedly turned itself off when I tried to engage it. I left it plugged in all day and tried again last night. Nothing. I panicked and found some advice online. Finally got it going again. I thought I had better back up my photos (around 1,500) to Google+ before I lose the phone forever.
I followed instructions and a small window on the phone said the pictures were being loaded. I kept the external power going. The battery did come back to about 85%. Then I left the phone and my Mac on all night. This morning, it (the phone) said there were 650 pictures remaining but I had run out of space. I then paid for the basic ($1.99/month) space and hoped that the rest would be uploaded.
So far NO pictures have appeared on Google+--I have looked everywhere. I don't know what to do now.
I am leaving the phone turned on and connected to external power since I'm afraid what will happen if I turn it off. (Right now the battery seems to be at about 10%!!)
I hope someone out there can help me before I lose all my pictures which are really important to me.
Thank you.
