Let us assume I am working/living in a potentially hostile environment and want to minimize the risk that somebody can access the data stored on my Android phone. The recommended way is to force-lock the phone to ensure that it cannot be accessed without the password, but this does not fully protect against data extractions applied directly on the phone. And going through the multi-step approach of resetting the phone via Settings is obviously not feasible under pressure.
So I am looking for ways to quickly factory reset on an Android phone. Something like "press one icon, confirm with one button = reset Android phone to factory settings".. with no passwords, no PINs... just quick wipe.
How can I accomplish this?
PS: I am aware that this may also lead to unexpected data loss in case the function is triggered by mistake. That is a risk I am willing to take.

My phone is an HMD Vibe, and I just want to make sure I won't lose my plan, or my number. My Google account has all my contacts attached to it so I don't have to worry about that, it's just that I'm worried about losing my plan and stuff.

I know all those things can be done from the Settings menu, but still, I want to get the welcome screen again, without having to factory-reset. The phone is rooted, in case it matters.
I want to make the welcome app start when switching the phone on, so I guess this might involve editing some config file which is read at startup.

I've got an Asus ZenPad 300C that is crashing constantly. Things I have tried:
- Clearing cache. I am unable to access Settings to clear the cache but was able to run a clean-up app, which I think did some of that. No effect.
- Factory Reset. If I use Power+Volume Up to access recovery mode I can see the options -
FASTBOOT MODE
and POWER OFF
, but the power button doesn't work so there's no way to actually select FASTBOOT MODE
. I tried connecting via USB to run ADB and do it that way but USB Debug mode is not enabled and I cannot get into Settings on the phone to allow it because Settings crashes.
- Battery. I have removed the back and temporarily disconnected the battery but that made no difference.
Is there any other way to perform a hard reset or troubleshoot and fix this issue or is it done for?

I'm trying to factory reset a Samsung Galaxy S20 because I've forgotten to add MDM in the initial setup, and as far as I know,w you can't add this later.
To do the factory reset, I've done Settings > General Management > Reset > Factory data reset. Then tap Reset and Delete all. But it then asks me to confirm my Samsung Account, which it somehow can't do, because I always get a loading icon that fails after some time. Then it asks me for the password of my Samsung Account, and again goes into a loading icon, which also just stops after some time. I don't get any error message.
There's also the option to send a confirmation e-mail, but this also leads to the loading screen, and after some time, I get a little pop-up telling me there is a network error. The screen here stays white, and I need to use the back button to go to the confirmation screen of my Samsung Account.
I do have internet access on my phone, because I can open websites with Chrome. I'm using my home Wi-Fi network to connect to the internet.
I didn't find any solution to this problem with Google, just the normal documentation from Samsung on how to factory reset a phone, which doesn't work for me.

I have many email accounts, and a hacker has locked a passkey and device on my accounts. It started out using the same name as my device, but then I renamed mine and saw it was a different device.
I have tried every method through Google help to remove this device and the passkey, and nothing works. The passkeys option to remove is missing. I have put a password PIN on Gmail and changed passwords. I've logged out, removed from the account, logged in from different browsers, etc., a couple of times. I was able to use the "Find My Phone" app, and it showed different addresses.
I was able to rename his device to something else so I can see it on my account. I don't know what else to do. He has opened other accounts in my name and linked them to mine, changed passwords, accessed my cloud email, social media, bank info, personal information, and who knows what else. I've canceled what I can.
I'm backing my info up now. When I delete my Google accounts, he recovers them. I found out by logging back into them that they are still open. He redirected my recovery codes to those accounts, so I can't get them. He's blocked my live chats, so I can't get help.
Right now, my plan of action is to back up my files, photos, and contacts. Delete all my accounts, RESET my phone, and hope this works. Will this be enough? He has all my Device Info and even my address. If I could delete the devices and passkey, would that sever the connection? I'm open to any help or advice! THANKS!

My old phone was my primary phone and it has all sort of important data in it (e.g. work email, bank login, etc) I have backup on those data, so I don't mind losing those data, but I cannot risk having those data exposed. If I would like to sell my old phones for parts, to make sure those data will not leaked in case the buyer is skillful enough to repair it, is there a way to wipe those data before I sell it?

I was using my Nokia 5.4 phone, but suddenly it restarted itself and cannot get past the "Nokia" screen (normally it would fade out and get into the Android system).
I have tried restarting my phone many times and the problem persist. I am able to get into the Fastboot Mode and Recovery Mode, but there is no option to factory reset at all.
In the recovery mode, there are only 3 options:
1. Reboot system now
2. Enter fastboot
3. Power off
And there is no option to factory reset in fastboot as well. In fastboot, there are 4 options:
1. Reboot system now
2. Enter recovery
3. Reboot to bootloader
4. Power off
And in bootloader, still no factory reset. There are 4 options:
1. Start
2. Restart bootloader
3. Recovery mode
4. Power off
I have already bought a new phone, but I would like to see if there is anyway to save this phone. All my important data is already in the cloud, so data loss is not a problem, and I may try some riskier method. Is there anyway I can make this phone work again?

It appears that it could be wiped with a Google account, but I do not know what Google account it may have been linked to.
Is there a way to expose which Google account it was attached to in the hopes it's one we have access to? Or is there a way to totally reset it to factory and wipe the data?

After a factory reset of my Galaxy S5(same accounts and sim etc), some apps did not restore. I suspect it was the large ones I had moved to the SD card a while back for space reasons (I took my SD card out during the reset and restore process).
Looking in my files>SD card>android>data, there are plenty of apps that did get restored that have files on SD card, but it helped me pinpoint a few that didn't reappear. For example Excel. I then checked the app manager and there aren't there under SD card (though I might be confusing the inbuilt and external SD card).
On Play store>my apps & games, they obviously aren't under 'installed', nor even under 'Library', nor when i search for them individually do the paid versions show as already paid...
I synced my backups on google and Samsung accounts directly before the factory reset
My questions are:
- Where can I find out what I've lost? ie a list of apps as of yesterday
- Is there any way of restoring apps moved to SD card?
- If not, I might as well wipe the pre-reset data folder on SD-card, right?
- What is likely to have happened?
- Before any future factory resets, should I move everything important back to phone before syncing and resetting

I tried wiping my old Lenovo tablet using the following methods, but none work
- Factory reset through the phone
- Erase all data using Google's Find my Phone
- 'wipe data/factory reset' -> 'Yes -- delete all user data' reset using the bootloader
So, I installed ADB through android-tools on my latest Manjaro Cinnamon as well as android-udev and tried the following, but they don't work either.
$ recovery --wipe_data
/system/bin/sh: recovery: not found
127|shell@android:/ $
$ wipe data
Wiping /data
Error opendir'ing /data 'Permission denied'
Done wiping /data
shell@android:/ $
$ adb shell am broadcast -a android.intent.action.MASTER_CLEAR
Broadcasting: Intent { act=android.intent.action.MASTER_CLEAR }
Broadcast completed: result=0
The device won't load as fastboot nor is there an option to fastboot under recovery or developer tools. So adb reboot bootloader
or fastboot devices
does nothing either. No root access option in developer tools either. So:
$ su
/system/bin/sh: su: not found
127|shell@android:/ $
and
$ adb root
adbd cannot run as root in production builds
$ rm -rf /data/*
rm failed for -rf, No such file or directory
So I don't know how to proceed and feel like I am out of options. Can someone help me, please?

I'm hoping someone can help with this issue. Essentially, we are locked out of the tablet and unable to factory reset or reboot it into recovery mode
The tablet in question is a Samsung Galaxy A8 tablet that belonged to a deceased relative.
The tablet has started asking for a password, but we've never set one. I assume it's the password for the google account on the tablet but we don't know what the password is, and the owner of the tablet doesn't even know which email address is associated with the tablet so we can't reset the google password.
We are unable to restart the tablet to factory reset -- when we try to restart it it just asks for the password again and won't even reboot. Pressing and holding the power button to force it to shut down is also not working.
The tablet is also in safe mode, not sure why this is but we can't make it exit safe mode. I believe all the volume buttons are working as they should.
I thought about using ADB but I don't believe USB debugging is enabled, as the owners are not great with technology and probably won't have looked at the developer options.
The only potential solution I can think of is letting the battery run all the way down and then trying to boot it straight into recovery mode, but that will take a very long time. I'd try to remove the battery but the tablet isn't in my possession (I'm helping relatives remotely) and I don't trust the owners not to mess that up!
So, is there a way to make the tablet able to restart normally so we can enter recovery mode, or alternatively to turn USB debugging on remotely so I can use ADB?
TIA (and sorry for the very wordy question!!)

**Introduction:**
Resetting an Android phone can be very tricky when Family Link is active, as I discovered when attempting to perform a factory data reset on my son's phone. Despite uninstalling the Family Link app, a persistent "Action Not Allowed" message prevented the reset, citing lingering parental controls.
**The Problem:**
The device displayed an "Action Not Allowed" error when trying to execute a factory data reset, indicating that Family Link parental controls were still in effect. Clicking "Learn more" reiterated that an administrator had the power to monitor and manage apps.
**Initial Attempts:**
- **Reinstalling Family Link:** Attempting to regain control over the settings by reinstalling and configuring the Family Link app on a
parent device.
- **Removing Supervision via Family Link:** Trying to remove the son's account from the Family Link supervision directly on the parent's
device.
- **Checking for Additional Google Accounts:** Ensuring no other Google accounts on the device had administrative control linked to Family
Link.
Despite these efforts, the reset was still blocked.
