There are apps that can do this but they are not exactly Bothie. The app allows the user first to take a picture from the rear camera and then from the front camera (but not simultaneously). Nokia first came up with this idea in 2017. More about Bothie I am just wondering if this is a hardware feature or software. I can handle the software issue(with root) i think. And if this is not possible then can you please explain why and how it works (totally optional)? If this is possible then people will be able to take videos from both cameras (the poor cameraman will also be included in the clip).. and that would be pretty cool IMO =) Every little opinion or googling is accepted. Thanks in advance :)

I have seen a video where a person with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) could type on a screen using their eyes (the software used eye tracking software). But there are also many disabled people who are partially paralyzed or have handicaps where their limbs give away to spasms or have stiff or impaired parts (but can use their eyes). Wouldn't it be nice, if, all of these, could have some arm attached to their wheelchair or bed or chair or table, with Android on it, and could use their eyes to open up YouTube and key in some search videos, scroll, and watch YouTube or other media? Why doesn't Android offer this accessibility feature? Thanks.

I have been handed an [H801+ Android phone](http://dealsprime.com/mobile-phones/operating-system/h801-android-4-2-phone-1-5ghz-mtk6589t-3g-gps-5-0-ips-1920-1080-2gb-ram-32gb-rom-13mp.html) , where the rear (main) camera has stopped working, and I have been trying to fix it without much success. I am looking for ideas as to what to try next. The phone has been obtained from eBay and seems to be of no-name Chinese manufacture. It has 2GB of RAM and a 4-core CPU. It has three SIM ports, two cameras, a 2800 mAh battery, and all the usual wifi/bluetooth/GPS/gyro interfaces. The screen is approximately 6 x 2.5" in size and supports full HD. It is running Android 4.2.1 (I believe this is Jelly Bean). I am told that the rear camera used to work, but now no longer does - I am wondering whether my friend received an Android update via her provider, which stopped it working. The front camera seems to work, although (since I am not used to large-screen devices) it seems to be permanently auto-focusing and clicking every few seconds. I don't know whether this is a feature or a fault! Having done some research, I believe a "swirl" arrows icon should appear superimposed on any live camera image to toggle between camera devices, but I cannot see this anywhere. I have tried the following apps: * Camera (stock app) - front camera works fine, no way to switch to rear camera * HD Camera Ultra - crashes * Camera (downloaded) - only front camera * Dual Camera / Double Shot - crashes Both of the crashy apps seem to have a lot of Play reviews, so I am minded to think there is a problem on my device specifically, rather than just that these apps are of low quality. I notice that if I put Camera (the non-stock version) into Panorama mode, it tries to connect to the rear camera, whereas for movie and pictures it uses the front camera. However it seems to fail to connect to the rear camera: > **Camera error** > > Can't connect to the camera. I suspect this is a good sign - it is perhaps "half connected"! --- I wondered if it just needed a factory reset, so I have done one, taking it back to "here's a demo of your device" state. However this hasn't made any difference. My thoughts on the reasons why I cannot get this to work: * The rear camera has developed a hardware fault * The whole phone is fussy about what version of Android it uses and/or — given that it is unbranded — has not been tested as well as it should have been * The front camera is stuck repeatedly auto-focusing and as a result does not give the rear camera an opportunity to initialise (update: I don't think this is the case now; if I hold the phone far enough away, and focus on something in good light, the focus box goes green and the front camera stops auto-focusing) There are a few things that might be worth a try: * Find a test (camera) app to give me techie info about the devices the phone can detect. I have looked for such a thing but cannot find one * Do a hard reset with a pinhole switch, though I cannot find one, and presume this is not an option * Downgrade Android an official way (using my SIM). This might bring the camera back to life, but possibly it may be overwritten when my friend puts her SIM back in * Upgrade Android the approved way. Using my SIM I have searched the Play store for "upgrade Android" but cannot find anything useful. I believe (from material on the web) there should be an upgrade option in "About this phone" but I don't seem to have that * Root the phone and try a later minor version * Root the phone and try a later major version I haven't asked whether my friend would mind me rooting the phone, but I am given to believe it is safe these days. What do you suggest?

My camera app on my Android phone has disappeared. - It all started yesterday. Everything had been working fine until then, but all of the sudden, my camera app didn't respond anymore (*Can't connect to camera* was the message I was getting). I got the same message when starting apps that used the camera (e.g. Snapchat). I went to *Settings->Apps*, and forced-quit every single app and stopped every process; still, nothing. At that point, I decided to hard reset my phone, and now, there is no camera app at all. I have tried looking for it in the disabled apps directory in *Settings->Apps*, and still, it is nowhere to find... I am really frustrated, as I can't use my camera at this point in my mobile phone (neither rear- nor front-camera)... Is there anything I could do to solve this issue? **SPECS**: - Phone: BQ Aquaris E4.5 - Android: Version 5.0

I have a friend with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. As a result of this, muscles do not receive nourishment in a progressively worsening manner, so that the muscles start becoming more and more impaired and unable to move with time. I have been exploring camera switches and project activate on Android, hoping that it would allow my friend to communicate through their phone and operate their phone in the later stages of their disabling condition. These features are described here: [Disabled people can now use Android phones with face gestures](https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2021/09/24/business/google-android-disabilities/) With them, you can raise your eyebrows, look left, up, or right, or smile or open your mouth to perform various actions such as play a prerecorded sound, make a phone call, or call a carer, and with project activate you can also use these camera switches to navigate your phone. However, I learned that these are only available in Australia, Britain, Canada and the United States. I don't understand why such a useful feature would be geographically restricted. I am living abroad and cannot find activate on Google Play, although I need it. Does anyone know when these will be available intentionally, or whether there is anything I can use in the meantime?

I love the way my laptop indicates when the webcam is on by illuminating the LED next to the cam. I wanted to try to get similar behaviour out of my Android tablet where it could indicate by some cue that the front cam was on. Maybe the LED blinking or something similar. I find sometimes I may start a zoom call and then shift focus to a different app and it may not be obvious to me that the camera is still on. Any way to achieve this? Either natively or using a third party app or script etc. If it matters I am using the Samsung S6 Lite tab.

Since yesterday my phone's front camera hasn't been working. - Not working on most apps, including native camera. While touching "switch camera" button in camera application, nothing happens. - Instagram images from the front camera displays a distorted, stretched image of the rear camera. - In Dialer keycode(secret code) *#808* for Oneplus devices, "front camera preview" displays rear camera's image. But "camera test" makes the app close(force close) without any error info. - If I'm not mistaken, during a video call on WhatsApp, the camera froze along with the app, which became unusable until I restarted phone. After that the camera hasn't worked ever since. What I've tried so far: - factory reset - safe mode - several camera apps - going back to stable (I was using beta) Nothing worked. Any suggestions?

So, since the Settings app and the Screen lock app can access those sensors, could it be possible to activate/ access those sensors data in another custom built app (on a Rooted smartphone) to use it for 3D scanning objects or simply recording the face of the user in order to 3D print a functional facial recognition "key"?

One app asked if the camera was in use. enter image description here I cannot press the lock button with the volume down because my volume down button is stuck and broken. I tried downloaded the camera repair apps like Camera (CMMFix) for Cyanogenmod and it doesn't work. My phone was just fresh from factory reset. Also I get random crashes like camera and imageview has stopped working randomly.

I found the front camera gives more pleasing pictures than the back one, for example, the pictures taken by the back one often shows my eyes are proportionally smaller. Also the front camera seems to produce completely dark pictures when the lighting isn't good, while the back camera can still produce clearer pictures. Which camera gives more accurate or realistic pictures of my face and head at distances around an arm's length?
