In an app called App Cloner, I am trying to toggle ON "Install automatically." When I try to toggle, I get a message of being redirected to Android Accessibility, where I can enable or disable this service. I go to **Android Accessibility**, but it is grayed out, set to OFF. I tap on it to see the message: > **Restricted setting** > > For your security, this setting is unavailable. > > Harmful apps might ask you to change this setting to get your personal data. This setting can't be changed unless you allow restricted settings in More options for specific apps in Settings > Apps. I go to Apps in settings and I can't find an option of "More" under settings or in the app itself. I do have other apps under Accessibility turned ON, but those apps were from the Play Store. If it's relevant, I have a Samsung Galaxy S22+ on Android 13.

Previously there was a menu option in Google Translate to show the translated text in full screen so it's easy to read from a distance. You could also use english as the visibility was the main feature useful in like a noisy nightclub or if one was temporarily or permanently mute. However that feature in the latest update has disappeared. I tried internet searching for "full screen" google translate for tens of minutes but couldn't find any answers. What's the easiest way now to show large text, preferably though not necessarily using pre installed apps (such as Google translate) for availability? See screen cast recording for further details.

Following this question, https://android.stackexchange.com/q/248171/383919 , it is apparent that we need to be careful granting accessibility permission to an app. However, sometimes, it is needed. So I am trying to more precisely understand the particular risk of this. From my understanding, "accessibility" means "simulating physical interactions with the device". This means that, 1. Once the screen is locked it cannot access anything that requires the password to access. 2. if a 3rd party app tries to utilize the accessibility permission to access some specific information like some message displayed in an app, it must simulate what the user can do to enter that app, which inevitably let the user **see** what it is doing. 3. So the only way for the 3rd party accessibility app to get sensitive information is to wait until the user brings up the sensitive information to screen by himself/herself. (Or by typing a password, etc.) Therefore, can I say that, as long as the user is not using sensitive apps (like banking apps) or typing passwords at the time they are using the 3rd party app with accessibility permission, then there is no risk of leaking those sensitive data to the 3rd party app?

We have some locked down tablet leased out for our truck drivers to use. Every now and then, one of them will accidentally activate the talk back feature. We do not have access to the settings menu of the tablet to turn it off. I learned a few months ago that you could just hold both volume buttons to disable this feature which worked for a while, but is now not fixing the problem. Does anyone know how to turn off the talk back screen reading feature without going into the settings menu?

I am using the default clock application on a Realme 8 5G phone to set alarms. Today I remembered an important alarm I wanted to set. However, my companion was in bed and I did not want to wake my companion up. Hence, I did not want to have the ringtones play when I selected them. But I couldn't just leave the default ringtone because my companion doesn't like it. Thus I must select a different one so that it doesn't bother my companion when it goes off. My idea was to turn off the volume and select the ringtone by ringtone name (in silence). I might have them memorized by name or just want to wait till it goes off to hear it. My strategy was to turn the volume off. However, clicking on the ringtone still makes me hear it. ringtones page with volume turned off globally Why doesn't Android silence the ringtones when I do this and select them, one at a time, in turn, from the ringtone radio controls? Is there a way to select the ringtones without making a noise? Thanks.

I have an aging parent who I want to acquaint with using an Android smartphone. Gestures are a bit of a problem for him, and I want to acquaint him with swipe-down, swipe right, long-press, single tap, double tap, pinch zoom. Preferably but not necessarily in the context of actual Android phone use - bringing down settings, moving a shortcut around on the desktop, moving a shortcut to another page on the desktop, etc. Is there a way to achieve this? In the context of actual use (i.e. practice on a 'practice desktop' where nothing he does is permanent. Or something simpler just for practice would do. I'd just give him a smartphone to practice on, but he lives a long distance away and it's difficult to tell if and when he screws a gesture up and does something inadvertently or changes some setting that leads to headaches.

I have seen a video where a person with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) could type on a screen using their eyes (the software used eye tracking software). But there are also many disabled people who are partially paralyzed or have handicaps where their limbs give away to spasms or have stiff or impaired parts (but can use their eyes). Wouldn't it be nice, if, all of these, could have some arm attached to their wheelchair or bed or chair or table, with Android on it, and could use their eyes to open up YouTube and key in some search videos, scroll, and watch YouTube or other media? Why doesn't Android offer this accessibility feature? Thanks.

I have a Google Pixel 6 with Android 14. Currently I have enabled: Settings > Accessibility > Color and motion > Color correction > Grayscale But I find myself wanting to disable Grayscale (re-enable color) for certain apps, such as Google Maps. This question https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/256170/all-internet-apps-in-grayscale got my hopes up, but I don't see anything helpful in Settings > Apps > Digital Wellbeing. How could I choose via an allow-list and/or deny-list which apps should or shouldn't use Grayscale mode? If Android doesn't offer this feature natively, how (as a software engineer) could I code it for myself?

Lots of places online suggest to turn on the Switch Access accessibility feature, which would supposedly fix the bug (supposing it's a bug). But my Moto G62 5G doesn't have the "Switch Access" feature. Then I had the idea to use a macro app such as MacroDroid to intercept the "Hey Google" and react with a chime, but I didn't find that sort of trigger - neither in MacroDroid nor in Tasker. Any ideas? :)

After buying an Android '13'† Head unit with a screen higher resolution than my previous stereo, I found that it didn't offer any options to change the font or icon size in it's accessibility options, so text is too small at arms length, where the screen is. Since there are no after market ROMs for this device yet, I wonder if there is any other way to change these settings via an app, or by editing a configuration file somewhere? I have enabled Developer options on this device and can enable adb if needed. † About may say "Android 13", but it's probably a lie, it looks more like Android 10, but I would like to know the most reliable way to work it out.

I think it would be nice if in the text-to-speech settings you could specify a cascading set of languages, with dictionaries, associated with each language, intrinsic in the language selection. When, a word is encountered, TTS would look up the word in the dictionary for the selected language, if it is not found, it looks it up in the dictionary for the second language, and so on. When a word is found in a dictionary, it is played, using the language intonation for the language associated with that dictionary. If the word is not found in any dictionary, the first language specified is used to pronounce the word, by default. This multi-language algorithm could be a bit more processor expensive, but several multilingual users who write their notes and text in their apps in more than one language at a time (even using the Feynman method, ie., write as text comes natural to you, rather than abiding by the rules of a specific language), for instance in their Google keep notes, might like this feature (and use it). Can this be implemented in Android? When will this be implemented? How can I enable it? Thanks.

This post has some overlapping with UX, so I could have posted it on the UX stack exchange, but I wanted to make it specific, to, camera switch support, in Android. That is why I have posted it here. Camera switches are an accessibility feature, that allow, people, disabled or not, to control the phone via face movements and gestures. An example of this, is ALS (amiotrophic lateral sclerosis), and/or where the body has undergone paralysis, and only the eyes, and, perhaps, other parts of the face, as can vary with medical condition and physical physiology, and as may also be affected by medication, are available. The system, should, allow, the user, to configure which switches they want to have configured or want configured. .... Switch access could present a list of switches you wanted to try to configure. It, could, present, an animated, video info graphics animation, to show what the switch was. The switch could involve a configure and hold, functionality. The switch could involve a transitory, gesture, functionality (more or less, something, moves, and then goes back into place). The switch could involve a head movement. In this case, position, speed, and acceleration, parameters, as the head traces a path on the the polar coordinates sphere, must, be manageable By granularity By gesture shape . So, for example, you could configure a head path. .... Do we need a website where people can list their camera switches, as pictures, and names, alongside their medical condition, or disability (perhaps, even listing, medication, they take)? This way people working with camera switches can make decisions, based, on, what the switches are, or could be. For example, one person could have a mouth muscle to allow a distinction between smile a little and smile a lot. Or, they could have muscles to allow nostril flaring (they, may even, have been able to train the muscles). Other people, may, have, other, possible camera switches, at their disposal. But, if we cannot learn, what these are (or may be), then we cannot program, cater, and support them. Thank you. The question is, how can we cater to more camera switches uses, users, and use cases. With regards to what has been written in this post, what can we do, what can be done, or how can we improve and implement what has been written here? Has, anyone, been working on this? Thanks.

I would like to initiate a cellular call from an Android tablet. When doing so, I want to do so without touching the phone. Additionally, I am wondering about using the tablet as a headset with a Bluetooth headset or pairing the BT headset with the phone. I do not want to use VOIP or require an Internet connection. In 2009, there was a solution from Broadcom's "Widcomm" Bluetooth stack. This is no longer available. Motivations: Cell phones with a nice user interface for me are expensive and with my large fingers and poor eye sight, it is difficult to accurately push the buttons and read the text. Cell phones don't seem to last long (4 years). I have some tablets that have been working for over 10 years. If a specific tablet and phone are required, this is OK, I am ready to replace my phone and a new tablet would be fine. I would appreciate any help.

Okay so, I have a Unihertz Jelly Star running Android 13. Because it has such a small screen, I'd like the ability to quickly toggle auto rotation. If I could add it as one of the functions on the reprogrammable shortcut button that would be ideal, but I can't find a way to easily do that. So I went with the next best thing I could find. I installed Button Remapper from the play store. This works well enough. I can set it to toggle rotation with a double tap of one of the volume buttons or a tap-and-hold of the app switcher button, easy peasy. There's just one little caveat. Android Accessibility Suite doesn't remember the settings. If the phone is sitting idle, or I'm on it and haven't used the toggle for a little bit, the Accessibility Suite settings to enable Button Remapper to make changes switches itself off. I've switched both Button Remapper and Android Accessibility Suite to 'Unrestricted' under battery usage. Button Remapper initially had 'Pause App Activity if Unused' enabled by default, so I switched that off. It has made no difference whatsoever. Currently I have the accessibility shortcut to enable it by holding both volume buttons, so when it disables itself, I can quickly turn it back on again. But at that point I might as well just use the auto rotation toggle in the notification pull shade. I just want a quick, easy ***hardware*** (nothing obstructing the screen) toggle I can use from anywhere that I can just set and forget. Is there something I'm overlooking here? Or am I just SOL & just need to bite the bullet and go back to using the damn notification pullshade toggle? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated <3
