When a blind user is using TalkBack to listen to text, they may want to figure out the actual spelling of the text. Can TalkBack be used to spell a Chinese character or stream of Chinese characters in terms of Chinese radical or Chinese character component names, so that the blind user may know what the characters that are being read out are made of? How can this be enabled in Android?

Is there a fast way to write Pinyin on Gboard, which makes the diverse spelling rules and rules for the tone mark and apostrophes user-friendly through suggestions on top of the keyboard as we are used for other language systems? I know of course Pinyin is almost never written out unless for educational purposes - and these are exactly those I opt for. Maybe there's a downloadable in-app feature or any other add-on I don't know. But currently, I have to insert everything character by character and fiddle with the right tone marks by pressing a character long and choosing between the options which pop up - which is not a solution in the long run. Since I have seen Chinese people write Pinyin fast, I'm pretty sure such a feature exists on Chinese phones, but I want it on my phone as well.

I have tried the Google contacts app, the Samsung contacts app, and the Asus contacts app. Only the latter will sort Chinese contacts in Hanyu Pinyin order, without requiring the entire phone to be switched from English to the zh-cn locale. Else they get sorted by radical (Unicode order). If one sets the entire phone to zh-tw locale, one gets Zhuyinfuhao sorting. Anyway throughout the experience we see the very short sighted assumptions that certain people speak certain languages and prefer certain sorting orders without getting any choices in between. No, I'm not talking about first name versus last name. Nor am I talking about establishing custom pronunciations for each and every contact. Anyway the user, me, prefers the English interface to his Android phone. However he has learned Chinese using Hanyu Pinyin. That's how he expects his characters to be sorted by. It is unfortunate that various Android app developers would have never imagined such a combination, for some reason. And yes, even if one day one could just change the interface language of the contacts app, that would still also be too much of a sacrifice. Why should interface language be related to sorting method in the first place? Sure it's a good guess for the majority, but for the minority it's a hardwired nightmare. Also, choosing English as interface language means it's anybody's guess which the user's preferred Chinese sorting order might be. So why not give the user the freedom to choose? Android 13. Sure, you might say, "See https://stackoverflow.com/questions/22907288/chinese-sorting-by-pinyin-in-javascript-with-localecompare and build your own app." But I don't want to build my own app, or root my phone.

I have a Pritom M10 tablet I bought from Amazon a week or so ago, it's essentially a Chinese cheap thing based on the Lenovo M10. However, the audio quality is absolutely awful and that has really put me off. So, as it is new, I was going to send it back to Amazon, but want to do a factory reset to wipe anything I have put on it like pictures, login info etc, just to be safe. I followed the instructions for the Lenovo version, which is turn the device off, hold both volume buttons along with the power button and you'll get a menu, one of the options being factory reset. Of course, this is in Chinese and I can't read it. I have done some Googling on resetting Chinese tablets and the option that is chosen in the examples I have seen doesn't match any option on mine. This is the screen I am faced with: enter image description here Does anyone know which option I have to select? Or should I be asking this question elsewhere?

I searched for some page about Chinese handwriting input, but on my Android 7.1, I only see Pinyin, and it shows the following: enter image description here On some page, such as https://eastasiastudent.net/china/mandarin/handwriting-practice-android/ I do see enter image description here with the bottom right panel suitable for handwriting input. So my Android 7.1 doesn't have it... and going to Settings, I only see the Google Pinyin input (Pinyin means "assemble sound" or phonetics). But that page seems to suggests the handwriting panel can be obtained by Pinyin input. Is there a way to have an official Chinese handwriting input method for Android?

My wife is getting some weird text messages as replies in middle of conversations with her friends. The messages are blocks of Chinese characters. She gets these in the stock messaging app from friends that use Samsung phones and iPhones. She is using a Nexus 5X on AT&T. (**N.B.** Other users have asked the same question about the Samsung Galaxy S7, so it's not a phone-specific issue.) Here is a screencap from today from an iPhone user, and translating the text does not make sense (though I did image translation): : iphone response what does this even mean (Click to see the image in full size) --- Here is one from a Samsung phone and from their end: again with the chinese from the samsung's end (Click to see the image in full size) Does anyone know why this is happening? Is it some weird thing when someone with a weird texting app replies with some emoji/GIF/image?
