I downloaded tons of offline translation packages for Google Translate some time ago. Then at some point, I must have done something, maybe an update or a setting change (perhaps that Primary Language thing that kept popping up every time I opened Translate?), and suddenly all of the packages have vanished. Moreover, when I go under the top-left corner dropdown menu and choose "Offline translation", I end up here:

after getting a message "Can't get offline packages list" (or that pops up after those two blue texts appear, which varies from time to time), and none of those is a link.

Previously there was a menu option in Google Translate to show the translated text in full screen so it's easy to read from a distance. You could also use english as the visibility was the main feature useful in like a noisy nightclub or if one was temporarily or permanently mute.
However that feature in the latest update has disappeared.
I tried internet searching for "full screen" google translate for tens of minutes but couldn't find any answers.
What's the easiest way now to show large text, preferably though not necessarily using pre installed apps (such as Google translate) for availability?
See screen cast recording for further details.

I'd like to delete those files, as it turns out that I never needed them - always was in range of WiFi. Google Translate doesn't seem to provide an option to do this. I'd rather not remove my configuration (that's what I think would be the result of deleting all user data for Google Translate).
How can I do this?

I am using Gboard to translate text from English to other languages. Some languages can be written in more than one script.
I was wondering whether it would be possible to select Bosnian in Cyrillic rather than Latin script as my translation output, or pinyin instead of hanzi as the output text for Chinese.
The same goes for other languages that can have more than one destination translation output script.
Is this possible with Gboard (and, in general, also with Google Translate)? How can I achieve this behavior?

I accidentally set Google Translator as default and now there aren't any other translators. The only thing I can do now is choosing Google Translator.
I would like to undo my false selection of Google Translator as default.
How is this possible?

Is there a way to lock the Google Translate app to a specific Japanese character set (camera translate)?
I'm using my phone to translate menus etc in a Japanese videogame (PS4/5), and it tells me like 12 different things it could be. It's ridiculous. Isn't there a specific Japanese character set games use? Can I lock the app to that???

**Google Translate changes my Gboard layout according to the input language.**
Might be ideal under some circumstances, but not now. Especially without consulting me first. And much more especially if it buries the option to revert it.
For instance: It changes from QUERTY to QUERTZ, when the input is in Deutch.
There is no other layout or languages selected under *Language & Input*
Good and old (and probably never upgrading) **Android 8**, if relevant.
**Google Translate V6.27.0.1** (not updating that one, by the way. Read the comments on the store to understand why)

When I try to use Google Translate offline, I get an error:
>Translation failed. Offline translation file not available. Please check SD card is inserted.
In Settings-> Storage I could see that the Translate app was stored in the phone's internal memory. I tried moving it to the SD card, and even after restarting the device, the same error was still there.
Using a file browser, I am able to look at the SD card and see that
/storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.google.android.apps.translate/files/olpv3/v5/25/r11
contains folders like dict.en_pt_25
, lang.en_pt
, and lang.pt_en
where "pt" is also replaced by some other two-letter language codes. .../r12
contains the files for French.

According to the list published, only Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Italian, German, French, and English will get particularly good support for Live Translate's various features.
Trying to download a Portuguese language file to use with live caption translation on Pixel 6, but I can only see: French (already installed so you can't see it in the screenshot), German, Italian, and Japanese.
I recall I saw on some forum that Portuguese is also an option. Does anyone know more about this?

I am trying to set up a Google Nexus 7 (kitkat) and a Samsung Note 2 (jellybean) for offline English-Spanish Translation using the Google Translate app. Both devices are usually set to UK English. On each device, I have downloaded the offline spanish translation data, and that works fine in the translate app in flight mode. I have also downloaded text-to-speech data in English and Spanish, and that will output audio in both languages from the translate app in flight mode.
I have
google voice typing
set as a generic input method on each device, and I have downloaded the Espanol (Espana) Offline speech recognition pack for google voice typing. Choose Input languages
is set to automatic
, although changing it to English and Spanish makes no difference.
In the Google translate app, when I touch to recognise a voice in English, it works fine.
When I touch to recognise a voice in Spanish, in flight mode, on either device, I see the message,
No Connection for speech input (E4)
Spanish voice input works when not in flight mode. Can I make the app recognise Spanish voice offline? Thanks!

So i've been using google translate for a while and there are a bunch of translated words and phrases that i have asked for to date stored on the device. I now want to take a copy of them to my PC (in any tractable text format) so that i can use a decent text editor / script to convert them to anki format (a flashcard app) so that i can memorize them.
Does anyone know how to get at this data? I had a quick look through the file system on my android phone (which incidentally, is a samsung galaxy S III) and i couldn't see anything obvious there. I reason that the phrases i have used must be in there somewhere because they are displayed on the phone even when there is no internet access from the device.

When I try, it says that Google voice typing can't be used "in this field", and the built-in speech recognition in Google Translate doesn't work when offline.
Google voice typing does work in other applications when I'm offline, as I download the speech recognition model:

I'm having a problem with Google Translate and downloading offline packages for any language. I tap the download button next to the language, it says "Starting download" and the indicator is spinning, but nothing happens and the language pack is not downloaded. The app **has** the permission to use the storage.
My setup: the latest version of Google Translate (v5.20.0.RC10.199570264), on an Xperia L1 with Android 7. I should stress that with previous versions this used to work.
What I have tried:
1) Clearing cache and data of both the app and Google play (also the
services).
2) Unistalling and reinstalling.
3) Rebooting.
4) Unistalling, rebooting and then reinstalling.
5) Moving the app to SD. Also the opposite.
6) Checking the permissions (everything is allowed).
7) All combinations of all of the above.
I'm about to try a factory reset, but before going nuclear I'd like to try some alternative.
Any hints/ideas are welcome!

I have Marshmallow and the latest Chrome. My phone language is set to Italian.
When I open in chrome sites in foreign languages it proposes to translate it in Italian.
For Japanese pages I noticed using Google translate that English translation is much more accurate than Italian.
Therefore I would like to know if it is possible to force Chrome on Android to translate Japanese into English instead of Italian.
Setting the browser in English would be a good workaround but I found how to do so just in the Windows version.
