I routinely need to save files I download or receive via email or instant messaging to a specific folder on my device. Currently, the quickest way to do this is to share the file, choose my file manager app (Cx File Explorer), and then navigate to the desired folder. I wish I could pin a "Share to folder X" option directly to my share menu. I've tried multiple file managers but haven't found one that supports this functionality. Any suggestions? I'm using Pixel 9.

Device name: Realme Narzo N61 Android version: 14 The Pulldown Quick settings 1st screen is shown below. Quick Settings It has more screens as you swipe right on this. Through the edit Quick Settings options, other options like Airplane Mode, Bluetooth, Torch & other icons can be added or removed from the Quick Settings panel. However, the Big Fat Display Adjustment Icon doesn't seem to be removable. This is a huge problem because if your hand accidently touches it at the wrong point, you may end up making your display brightness zero and after that it's very difficult to adjust it back higher because you can't see anything. Is there a way to not have this big one in the Quick Settings? UPDATE: Looks like this is an Android 14 feature, rather than something specific to the Narzo. I found someone complaining about it but for other reasons. https://www.reddit.com/r/oneplus/comments/1fctlmd/very_unwelcome_change_to_quick_settings/

How to set a default ringtone for apps (not SIM/phone calls) on android 13 and android 14?

Android 13 and 14, under settings, there's only options for SIM specific ringtones: enter image description here There's no "Default" ringtone! (NOTE: screen shot from websearch. I'm using a stock android on a PIXEL, and on a MOTOROLA. Both have the same options as the screen shot, which is for illustration that there is "ring tone" for each SIM card, and no "default") Yet, every app is set to use "Ringtone: Default"! This causes apps like whatsapp, to ring for whatsapp calls using the original default of the phone (which is NOT set to either SIM card's ringtones)... now i get the atrociously horrible and unbearable "hello moto" ringtone for those apps. I could configure every single app to use a different ring tone, but why if they are all using the "default"... the question is how do i set the "default" i want? I cannot believe google screwed up that bad again and there's no way to set it. I just think this is usual google usability and the setting is hidden in some completely non-obvious place. -- Another tidbit. I have four phones. Pixel pro with one SIM card and one E-Sim. (both being used) Pixel with one SIM card and one E-sim (only physical sim present, esim empty) Motorola with one SIM card and one E-sim (only physical sim present, esim empty) Motorola with two physical sim cards, but only one inserted. On all phones, they run android 13 and 14, stock from manufacturer. And the ringtone settings are exactly the same as the included screenshot (but with the regular Material design styling)

I have a parent with Dementia, who has always struggled with technology but we need a way of - Calling them - Tracking them - Allow them to make calls They do not need all the functionality of a smartphone but I am hoping I can setup one in a way that would help them. The Android Find My Device would allow us to find them when they wander off, so the only other functionality I want is to make a call and answer a call, that is it. It needs to be very easy because if they find themselves in some menu somewhere they cannot find there way back, so I want to hide everything else. I wanted a couple of pictures on the phone they can tap to call that particular person and an easy way to answer an incoming call. Is there a way I can configure or setup a phone in this way. I am pretty technical (software developer) just don't actually know much about phones. Can I even write some software to achieve this? Any help would be appreciated. We have tried old fashioned non-smart phones but even those are too complicated, they have to open contacts, find the person, press a button to make a call etc, because with dementia they cannot remember any instructions, and that is too much, it needs to be very very intuitive and limited.

I moved on to another phone that I can use an Android phone. I want to use this one as an MP3 player and video player as opposed to an official phone. Can anyone help me with this? How can I completely degoogle my phone? Or install a Custom OS on it?

I have a Google Pixel 6 with Android 14. Currently I have enabled: Settings > Accessibility > Color and motion > Color correction > Grayscale But I find myself wanting to disable Grayscale (re-enable color) for certain apps, such as Google Maps. This question https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/256170/all-internet-apps-in-grayscale got my hopes up, but I don't see anything helpful in Settings > Apps > Digital Wellbeing. How could I choose via an allow-list and/or deny-list which apps should or shouldn't use Grayscale mode? If Android doesn't offer this feature natively, how (as a software engineer) could I code it for myself?

I'm seeking a solution for the distribution of my Android-based devices (tablets) to end-users. I have a tablet with a custom Android 11 OS, and I've developed an application that is publicly available on the Google Play store. In the future, I plan to sell these tablets to my customers. The challenge I'm facing is that I'd like to avoid a situation in which **they** need to create individual Google accounts (some of them might not have their own Google account or might not be technically capable of creating one). I haven't found a feasible solution to this issue yet. I considered using something like 'zero-touch enrollment,' but if I understand it correctly, it's more geared towards IT administration, and I would need to have an authorized manufacturer that supports this feature. Another solution I'm contemplating (not sure if it exists, though) is customizing the OS in a way that it automatically starts my application on startup. However, I'm uncertain if I would need my own CDN for software updates, etc. I'm not sure if such a thing is even possible. Do you have any ideas?

My goal is to be able to use a physical keyboard (connected to a non-rooted Android 10+ device via Bluetooth) to input letters located on the right side of a QWERTY keyboard while actually pressing only keys on the left side. The solution could be specifically tailored for one-hand typing but a general key remapping solution might also work (it needs to allow the key to send one input when pressed alone and a different input when pressed together with a modifier key). Due to a hand injury, I am forced to temporarily type with only my left hand on the QWERTY keyboard. One way to improve the typing speed in such a case is to use software that enables a half-QWERTY layout for touch typing. The way it works is that when a letter (such as q) is typed with its usual hand, the operating system sees it as that letter, but when it is typed while holding a modifier key (e.g. space), the respective letter on the other end of the keyboard (the one typed with the same finger of the other hand in two-handed typing) is used by the operating system (in this case, p). For desktop operating systems, there are solutions allowing the implementation of such mechanisms (e.g. Karabiner-Elements on macOS, AutoHotkey on Windows) but I was not able to find such a solution for Android. It doesn't help that in the context of mobile devices, a one-handed layout is most commonly applicable to touchscreen keyboards, not physical ones, so searches for related keywords do not return any meaningful results. I would prefer a system-wide solution but for my use case, I mostly need it for code-server (version of VSCode accessed via web browser), Obsidian (note-taking app) and optionally Termux (terminal emulator for Android). I can remap keyboard shortcuts for these apps, so I am mostly concerned with regular typing (letters, special symbols), not key combinations. Also, I would use it mostly for Onyx Boox tablet (Android 10 device with epaper screen) but I also use other devices with the same or newer Android versions.

When we click a share button, a universal "Share Target" pane slides up. Apps declare Share Targets, which is a way that the user can share something from one app to another. This is how, say, we can share a tweet on facebook. It gets even more complex now that share targets can be created for specific contacts. So we can directly share an item with a specific person, through a specific app. In the developer docs , you can read about how developers can implement certain features to try to increase the "ranking" of their share targets. Basically, they want to get their share buttons closer to the front than share targets from other apps. You can also directly rank the share targets within your own app. Android has some sort of algorithm that dynamically determines the rank of share targets between apps, and this ranking changes with the user's behavior. What I want to do, however, is outside of the scope of that documentation. I want to "pin" a certain share target, so that is always the very first share target displayed regardless how much I use it. And I only want to do this on *my* device, so I am not trying in anyway to get around android's ranking system to improve the ranking of my app on other people's devices. It just so happens the app whose share target I want to "pin" in one I am developing myself, but I suppose such a feature to manually control the ranking of share targets on your own device could be useful regardless whether or not you are developing your own app.

I was recently thinking about getting a custom boot animation for my phone, so I installed a root browser and looked for /system/media/ but it wasn't there. I also tried the file manager built into TWRP, but I couldn't find it there either. When I tried to use the "Boot Animations for Superuser" app, it ran into an error trying to backup the existing boot animation. If the /system/media/ folder is missing, how am I still getting the default boot animation that comes with Evolution X? Anyways, I just need help on how to replace the boot animation.
