I know if I follow some good rooting procedure, I can achieve it. But is there any way, or an official way so that I can manually re-install the original pure Android OS on my device?
I would be very much obliged if someone would provide some good resources about it, and which is applicable to any device.

**Context**: I have a Samsung phone and I am doing a "reset to factory settings"
**Question**: could an app that was installed before have altered the factory settings?
I am not very acquainted with Android (as opposed to Linux) but my understanding is that, for a given Android installation, specific code is loaded during boot. This code ("Android OS") is initially present on a market phone and then updated with the vendor patches as they are published. They modify this original code. You end up with an "up-to-date Android OS". I guess that the updates are signed so the OS you have is always "vendor-certified".
This "patched up-to-date Android OS" is what you get by restoring your phone to factory settings.
With the above in mind - **is there a way for a non-vendor application to modify this "up-to-date Android OS"?**
Note: I am not addressing here the situation with alternative OS reflashes.

## History ##
I don't know how many site visitors read user profiles, so I'm posting this little bit before I get to my actual question, so that the question makes sense. I was born with Cerebral Palsy . If WikiPedia isn't your preferred site for medical conditions, feel free to search your preferred medical advice site. They'll all tell you pretty much the same thing. That said, I'm classified as a **spastic tri-plegic** (tight muscles affecting 3 limbs). In my case, it's both legs and my right arm. Read On....
## Question ##
Since I cannot walk, and am confined to an electric chair, I'd like to find a wearable or health tracker compatible with a Google Pixel 9 XL. I recently switched from a Samsung Galaxy A-315. With that I had a Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 that I never setup. Not only do I feel I've wasted about $400 US, as that watch is just sitting, but I'd love to use that watch or Google's version as a health monitoring tool since I'm nearly 50. I'm stuck at an impasse here. It was my impression that the main monitoring functions were done through the step counter.
1. Since I can't walk, and sit in a chair 10 to 12 hours a day, the watch behaves as follows:
- The Heart monitor incorrectly reports me as idle (i.e., I sit too much. While this is true, I'm still active).
- The step counter stays at zero, even though I roll nearly a mile a day while working.
- I wasn't able to "test" the other apps as I kind of gave up when I realized the devices are tracking something I can't do. The only one that may work properly is the sleep monitor, but again not tested.
2. Do any readers know of any wearables or tracker type devices that are specifically made for disabled people.
- Every time I think about Googling Electric chair + Wearables, I cringe at the thought of how many results I might get for something like a Continuous Glucose Monitor and give up for fear of wading through useless results
- Is there a way to tell the wearable device that you cannot walk, so that you're monitored differently? I don't think this is specific to only Android based wearables but since I have an Android based phone, I thought I would post here.

Sailfish: https://docs.sailfishos.org/Reference/Android_Compatibility/#hardware-support
Definition/instructions of flash: https://phone.docs.ubuntu.com/en/devices/installing-ubuntu-for-devices ;
Must switch to Sailfish or Ubuntu to have the normal cursor? Do not wish to purchase a desktop just to flash (can not afford a room; would not have purpose for a smartphone if could afford a desktop + a room.)
Most compute devices allow to install (flash) new operating systems from flash (Universal Serial Bus) storage; how to do this on phones?
Does this require an "On-the-Go" Universal Serial Bus device which includes a small Linux (to execute ADB/fastboot)?
Do such On-The-Go devices exist, so do not have to purchase a whole laptop just to flash phone? Assistant suggests that such exist: https://poe.com/s/bthVjSoU5cwoE7azr2rg (just purchase such On-the-Go device which has the Sailfish/Ubuntu flash imagee, reboot your phone to the bootloader menu, use menu to load Ubuntu from flash)... can do this?

I downloaded the firmware file from the software (official Rescue and Smart Assistant) and extracted the boot, system, recovery image files, and flashed them to my tablet using
adb
. When in fastboot
mode, the image files are being sent to the tablet and are even getting flashed without any error, but the thing is they are not getting correctly flashed into the tablet because the boot loop is just being repeated again and again.

I know that the phone only has 8 GB at maximum. I moved on to another phone that I can use an Android phone. I want to use this one as an MP3 player and video player as opposed to an official phone. Can anyone help me with this? How can I completely degoogle my phone? Or install a Custom OS on it?

Bringing my question over from stack exchange as it was suggested I ask here instead.
I'm developing a personal project app (NOT for Play Store) to run on an old pixel phone I have. Here are my requirements
1. On boot, I want to automatically launch my app
2. The app should open a live camera feed and collect images at some interval
3. The app should stay alive indefinitely until a user explicitly kills it
4. All this needs to happen with NO user input
Nice to haves, but NOT required
5. The app should be able to function without the screen on
Now, I've successfully rooted my device to remove as many hurdles as I can. I got my app to launch on BOOT_COMPLETED, etc. But I'm hitting walls with the camera. I know the camera is not allowed to run in a background service. I was considering trying to force my app to be a system app, but I'm not sure if that let's me use the camera in this way either. The other option is to run the app in the foreground, but that requires a user to explicitly allow it to run continuously or else the OS kills it. But this will potentially trigger and run when I'm away, so I won't be there to hit play.
This is all like "spying app 101" stuff so that's probably why Android has put up so many roadblocks. But this isn't for other people. I have complete control of my device and will use it on my own property. I can do whatever custom ROMs people suggest, but I've not worked on any Android OS system code before so I'm hoping not to do that. However, if that's the only way, please let me know if you have any suggestions on where to start.
What is best way to achieve my high level goals here? Literally any architecture or strategy to do this is fine so long as it meets my requirements above.

Samsung Galaxy J1 shuts down after "Optimizing Android" on startup
I have an old Samsung Galaxy J1 20W that when it restarts, it goes to the 'Optimizing Android', and whenever it gets to '13 out of 13', it just shuts down and won't turn on again unless I take out the battery and put it back in. Is there any hope for it? Or is it done for good?

Is there any way at all to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G (Snapdragon) to Android 13? It's stuck on Android 11, and I've been with Google Fi, and now US Mobile, with still no OTA updates ever available. It's:
- Model: SM-G988U (SM-G988UZKEXAA)
- CSC Country: USA/US
- Active CSC Code: XAA
- Bootloader/PDA/Baseband Version: G988USQS2DUE2
- CSC Version: G988UOYN2DUE2
It was sold to me brand new 2 years ago as "Unlocked," but Samsung checked the IMEI for me and told me it's "Originally Carrier Locked to Sprint but now T-Mobile."
A custom ROM would be awesome, but I'm totally happy just to finally get to upgrade to Android 12 or 13. I've read all over XDA, Reddit, etc, that an unrooted phone can be flashed with a non-custom ROM, but I can't find any definitive answer regarding this thing's unlockable bootloader getting in the way of that.
Do I have any hope here, without paying to unlock the bootloader? If so, can someone tell me *exactly* which firmware I should download and flash?
