Send initial Signal message with Galaxy watch
There is no Signal Private Messenger app for watches at the moment. If I receive a Signal message, I can reply to it from my watch through the notification system. Is there a way to send a Signal message via the notification system without first receiving a message?

So I'm not sure this is the right place to ask this but I'm getting zero replies from support@signal.org so I thought I'd check in with the online community. I'm familiar with the security issues surrounding the "data" that Signal stores and that there is a master key that is used (created during installation) that is embedded into the Android phone and non-transferable. What I'm trying to figure out is how to either utilize the backup function to get from Android to iOS (however without the key that seems unlikely) or to utilize the move function that was built for Android-to-Android moves. I can find zero documentation on the function in the iPhone world. I have found references to "decrypting the data" for movement (a long and difficult process given that it was never meant to be exported and therefore it is a non-trivial, highly manual process) but haven't seen anything practical. Although this is a long shot, I'm just checking to see if anyone has successfully accomplished this either through some undocumented method that Signal built, or something less obvious. Unfortunately, I have over 5GB of messages and attachments over a 6-year period that I don't want to "throw away". (I've been digging around Stack Exchange to find the right place to post this and this one is the closest forum I've found so if it belongs elsewhere, let me know)

Other new apps are not showing either, although IDrive is showing up as an option that I got a while back even if it's not an actual SMS app. Starting to think there may be something weird I did to my phone that is causing this. Any help would be appreciated.

I've lost access to my phone, with a Signal installation with a lot of old messages I'd rather not lose. I know that most likely I'll get the phone back within 6 months though. I would also like to be able to access my old group chats and number in the meantime, on my new temporary phone. I've understood that if i transfer my number and account to my new phone, my lost phone shouldn't lose its messages, it should just "stop all messaging and calling on your old phone" https://support.signal.org/hc/en-us/articles/360007062452-What-do-I-do-if-my-phone-is-lost-or-stolen- But when I get the lost phone back, will I be able to reactivate that installation and not lose the history? If not, would I at least be able to create a backup from it, to be able to reinstall and recover the backup? The documentation doesn't clarify exactly what a "deactivated" account is able to do. When going back to my old phone, I'd be fine with losing the short history on my temporary phone.

I am trying to install Signal on a phone (Android 8). I just need this installed for verifying/linking my actual Signal desktop app. When I enter my number, the app tells me it has no permission/access to the network. The error message translated to English is: > Unable to connect to service. Please check your network connection and try again. I have checked both the internet connection and the mobile connection, they work fine. I gave Signal all the permissions it asked for. Is there anything else I can do? Edit: It seems to work (for a while) when the Signal app is updated. I managed to relink my Signal Desktop app to the smartphone app after the smartphone app had updated. Then, after some days, the Desktop app unlinked itself again. I installed the smartphone app again via Google Play and was able to relink again. It's not logic and stable, but it can be a workaround.

This question is uncommon and may not apply to a lot of you. But I dropped two phones in a row so I needed to grab my old Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 GT-I8160 backup phone and revive it. I had it already running with a previous version of Cyanogenmod 11 (Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich) and already saw that I could possibly run it with Anroid 4.4.4 and a custom Kernel from XDA Developers Forum (last updated Jan 30th 2023). Although that might be sufficient for others, it turned out that the messenger application I'm using is Signal for Android, which has a minimum OS requirement of Android 5.0 . Later I discovered a more recent version of Cyanogenmod / LineageOS 13 (Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow) on XDA Developers Forum , which was referring a packed Version of SergeyL on the 4PDA forum . I downloaded lineage13.0-20180914-UNOFFICIAL-codina_SergeyL.zip from the given link in the 4PDA forum and made sure it fits the given md5sum
. To download Signal from the Google Play Store I opted for Open GApps ARM 32bit for Android 6.0 and the Pico variant (Ace 2 has a ARM Cortex A9, ARM v7 32bit CPU ). I downloaded open_gapps-arm-6.0-pico-20220215.zip from the Open GApps website. Because I was certain that I can install both packages, I put them onto a Micro SD card, plugged it into the phone and booted into CWM (ClockWorkMod). Installing Cyanogenmod / LineageOS 13 went pretty well. So I rebooted and recognized, that CWM had been replaced by TWRP 3.0.2-0 (Team Win Recovery Project). When I tried to install GApps i got an *Error Code: 70*. It told me: *Insufficient storage space available in System partition. You may want to use a smaller Open GApps package or consider removing some apps using gapps-config.* To keep it short, the proposed solution of using a
-config
file wouldn't work. Wiping System, Data, Cache from TWRP and installing everything again gave the same result. So the question is: ***How to install Cyanogenmod / LineageOS 13 (Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow) with GApps and Signal Messenger onto a Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 GT-I8160?***

Why am I not able to install the Signal app onto my Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE 5G?
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE 5G and the Signal app is seemingly unavailable for this device. I didn't have ANY issues with Telegram, so it's quite baffling to me. Does anyone know why? Do I need to download it from another source altogether?

The identity key, namely the one mentioned in the official [documentation](https://scontent-fco2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.8562-6/309473131_1302549333851760_6207638168445881915_n.pdf?_nc_cat=107&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=ad8a9d&_nc_ohc=5LgX9LwZXrQAX_jxK6A&_nc_ht=scontent-fco2-1.xx&oh=00_AT-ufvZCX0Iqf6hLRS6QjklA2JfDtUUaMa0szXYhD6eEBw&oe=63467C9D) in page 4, is used in the first triple Diffie-Hellman agreement and signs all the prekeys. Does anybody know where this key pair is saved? I'm assuming here a full access to the memory of the device. In the axolotl.db file I can find traces of current ratcheting keys but not of the identity key.

I'm attempting to backup my Signal chats totalling almost 15GB, which presents a challenge in my 32GB phone. I simply have no space to do it, and even stripping the system of pretty much all apps except Signal is not quite enough, and naturally would be quite a lot of work. So, I was trying to create some sort of symlink between my external SD card and the Signal backup directory. I managed to do it via a su -M session (via adb shell but Termux also works) by using mount -o bind /storage//Signal /storage/emulated/0/Signal (having previously created that Signal dir on main storage). Files I create are perfectly mirrored and actually live on the external storage, however, the [temporary file Signal creates](https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Android/blob/main/app/src/main/java/org/thoughtcrime/securesms/jobs/LocalBackupJob.java#L121) for the backup is nowhere to be found. It doesn't even appear when I ls either path, yet it does appear when I navigate to it using any file explorer app. How come? Is there a way to correctly link that? Thanks in advance! PS: Backups have been improved for Android 10, but I am on 9, so that's a no go.

Do you have any hint? **EDIT** Here is some more information. - Lineage OS version: 18.1, build 31st March 2022. - Smartphone: Samsung Galaxy A520F. - With top level I meant the home screen.

Similarly, on the iPad, there is no option to backup everything. Can this be done: synchronize the chat history of the Signal app on the iPad to a reinstalled Signal app on Android? This is not what works for me: https://cight.co/backup-signal-ios-jailbreak/ .

I used Signal once on CyanogenMod and it didn't make me think during the registration. Now that I want to recreate a secure communication with my previous communication partner on LineageOS (OS reinstallation) I face the following problem after installing Signal from the Google PlayStore: * I can send SMS invitations and receive them. They contain an obfuscated HTTPS link which is opened in the default browser which redirects to https://play.google.com/ ... from https://signal.org/ ... and offers to "Open in Play Store App" which redirects to https://play.app.goo.gl/ ... (a phishing scam? And if not why would anyone choose such a URL?). The problem is that the websites offers to install the app although it already is installed (maybe the web app doesn't have access permissions to that information and always offers to install which would make me think even more). * https://support.signal.org/hc/en-us/articles/219377827 doesn't mention the reception of SMS and doesn't like any information how to proceed with it. * Not matter which unnecessary inacceptable confusion the first two points cause: there's no way to confirm the invitation because everything ends in the request to install an already installed application. Since I was hoping for better support of using the invitation when using Signal as the system-wide SMS application, I cannot deinstall it because I'd loose all my SMS or at least those exchanged after making Signal the system-wide SMS application. This comes very close to malware behaviour (not all criteria is fulfilled, though)... How to get started using Signal as secure messenger instead of SMS application and how to undo the setup as system-wide SMS application with as few data loss as possible? I'm using LineageOS 14.1.

I have backed up and restored Signal with Titanium for years without any incident, up until now. The other day I was encountering a boot loop playing around with an Xposed module. I did a re-flash of the ROM to regain access and then backed up my data with Titanium as usual. After a full wipe and re-flash all data was restored correctly (even for system apps), except Signal which force-closes instantly every time I open it. I've read about false UID re-assignments and tried the Fix Permissions app without any result. Fellow member @Josh experienced the same issue and attributed it to changes in the most recent Signal version 4.16 which pointed me into the right direction to find a workaround. I installed version 4.15.5 from here and then restored data only from Titanium. Now Signal will start normally again, but my messages from about the last 2 weeks are missing. Of course this can only be considered a temporary solution. I wonder what can cause this kind of behavior in Titanium, and if there are any similar backup solutions available that do work with Signal. Update: At last, the stable released yesterday (4.17.5) has finally gotten the long-awaited backup option: https://support.signal.org/hc/en-us/articles/360001890291-Restoring-messages-on-Signal-Android For rooted users, it would still be easier to backup and restore all apps in one batch after a ROM switch. Unfortunately, the upgrade from 4.15.5 caused Signal to crash instantly upon opening. All I could do was downgrade and export a plaintext backup which means I have now lost all media and group messages. Note that when you import the plaintext backup, you might need to use an earlier version. I couldn't restore with 4.17.5 since the app would always crash (10+ MB file). Only after going back to 4.15.5 the plaintext import was successful. Upgrading afterward went without problems.
