**Problem**
I want to install Android in a VM to restore a backup using Titanium Backup. For this to work, I need Android to be rooted.
**What I tried**
I've tried to install Android-x86 4.3 in a Virtualbox VM. The installation seems to work. I made an 8GB partition disk (sda1), made it bootable, and installed Android in it from an ISO file. This all seems to work. Android starts, I can browse the internet, install apps, etc. Then I want to restart the VM, and guess what?! I go back to the installation screen, like starting up from the ISO live image.
For normal stuff, I can make a snapshot, start that up, and do anything. My problem is that I need root permission to restore a Titanium Backup in that VM. And I cannot root this VM because the disk is not writeable. With Alt-F1, I become root and I can use a script to root Android. But my guess is that I'm still on the ISO and that is not writeable.
**Update - another try with Android 4.2**
As mentioned in the comments, 4.3 would have problems with root access. I tried 4.4, which didn't start at all. Then I tried 4.2, which has the same problem as 4.3 for me. I made a screenshot of what I see when I try to run the rootscript , which is described here .
You can see the errors: **rm failed - Read only filesystem**
How can I fix this?
**My question**
How can I install Android permanently on this VM, so it can reboot and then be rooted?

There is a .xapk file in APKPure and here is the corresponding app on Play Store .
I can install it using Play Store. But other approaches of installing this app fail (SAI_v4.5 and other installers), and about 20MB (the size of the .xapk file) is lost after installation failure.
I got the error
> INSTALL_FAILED_ABORTED: User rejected permissions
when installing split APKs (.xapk) on my Oppo Reno4 SE 5G running Android 12.
# example commands to install split apks
pm install-create
pm install-write 18911812 base.apk /data/local/tmp/base.apk
pm install-write 18911812 split_1.apk /data/local/tmp/split_1.apk
pm install-write 18911812 split_1.apk /data/local/tmp/split_1.apk
pm install-commit
I tried to install it using ADB, and although

pm install-commit
returns with a Success
message, the app is not fully installed. When using ADB, "Verify app over USB" is turned off.
I noticed this error when installing split APKs using a custom app installer from storage. But now I found this error also occurs when installing a normal .apk file (I didn't notice this because I am using Android's default package installer). However, .apk could be installed successfully (at least it seems like it).
How to solve this?

How do I stop Android from auto-enabling "allow unknown sources"?

Every time I restart my Xolo Era 4g, Android 5 Lollipop phone, it auto enables "allow installation of apps from unknown sources" option. I switch it off manually, then in a few seconds, a pop-up for an unknown app to install shows, and on the background, the "unknown sources" button automatically toggles. This keeps on going forever. I haven't rooted my phone and have factory reset it many times.
I first installed an antimalware app, and when I run it, it found around 16 malware, of which I deleted 14 but there was no option to delete the last two. Then I installed the notification app. I restarted my phone. After that, the internet automatically started. I immediately switched it off. Then I went to settings and switched off to allow unknown apps installation.
Then I opened the menu and slide it a few times and the malware attacked again. Opening the settings disclosed that an unknown app installation is switched on. Many apps are promoted for installation. After pressing cancel around 50 times, I went to the menu again and many new apps were installed. I have repeated this scenario two times once I switched the internet on. But with the internet off, I saw an app installation prompt too. I don't remember with the internet off whether the apps got actually installed or not.
Now I opened the notification app and it showed one process having some text similar to _Andriod UI Lollipop 5.0_, it had a Lollipop icon to its left. On clicking on that, it further showed one process. The process was related to the notification app itself and had text "toaster" or maybe "toasted". Now I have factory reset my phone again and have uninstalled all default apps like Flipkart, Snapdeal, Paytm, UC browser, etc. Now if I'll again restart my phone, the virus will start again.
Please tell a method to not allow any app to toggle the "unknown sources" options on without rooting the phone.

I found that my wife has 10 different Kindles and Kindle Fires. I deleted the oldest two thinking I have too many devices.
- I found a site to transfer older Audible APK to pc and then transfer it to the new phone.
- Or is there a better way.
- I cannot seem to find site again.
I have a S24 phone. I think made in Korea made Samsung knock off, not sure. Nothing saying Samsung comes up when phone boots up. Picked it up off Temu. It is running Android 13,with Snapdragon 3rd gen. I checked this with an app to read phone information.

I'm thinking of buying an ARM laptop as a second laptop for programming and hacking experiments.
Ideally I would set it up to multiboot Windows, Linux, and Android.
I've seen several articles and videos on the internet for setting up x86 Android on an x86 laptop, but can't find anything on ARM laptops.
I'm guessing it would come down to things like device drivers and maybe UEFI?
Is it possible for a normal person to install Android natively on an ARM laptop intended for Windows/Linux? (And preferably dualboot/multiboot?)
(I'm aware some highly skilled hacker types can probably do it using AOSP. I'm also aware I could just use a VM or emulator. For this question I'm only exploring the options of installing natively on the hardware.)

I recently bought a (currently discontinued) Polaroid Cube+ off eBay and I want to be able to use all its features.
The instruction manual and other places mention there is an app (package name
com.polaroid.cube
), but it seems to have been removed some years ago. (Latest version I can find is from 2017, v2.3.8.)
I want to install the Polaroid Cube app onto my OnePlus 12 with Android 14, but when trying to install (by running the APK or via adb install --bypass-low-target-sdk-block
) it says that it is not compatible with my device. It seems that the architectures don't match (armeabi-v7a, armeabi vs arm64; the specific error from adb is INSTALL_FAILED_NO_MATCHING_ABIS
).
**Is there a way of installing this app onto my OnePlus 12?** Ideally it should *not* involve rooting, as I have some work-related 2FA associated to my phone that need it to be unrooted. In addition, I don't have any older phones to install the app onto; the goal is to install this ancient app onto my modern Android phone.

I'm using Micromax Canvas E481, not rooted yet. It has the JioSaavn app already installed. I uninstalled it to install a mod version of JioSaavn. But I'm getting the error "App not installed". However, the same APK is working on my other devices. The same is happening for
playstore.apk
.
*JioSaavn* is not a system app, it's just provided in ROM by Micromax. From application, it gives the option to uninstall it. I can install APK for any version of *Saavn,* it's just not letting me install the mod version. If I modify it using Lucky Patcher, it won't install it, but it will let me install the original APK for any version bypassing the pop-up from ES Explorer.
When I tried installing it from ADB:
C:\Users\Syed\Desktop\adb-tools_treiber\adb-tools>adb install C:\Users\Syed\Desktop\Saavn.apk

Usually, if I restart the phone, the apps can be installed, but if I wait a few hours, I have to repeat the process.
Does anyone know of a way to fix the issue permanently?

I know [this StackOverflow question](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/4226132/app-not-installed-error-on-android) is related, but that question deals more with the development aspect than the consumer installation aspect of the error.

I am using Magisk + Zygisk. Magisk Modules used:

I have tried installing FakeStore, but it ends up with a signature mismatch error even after uninstalling and removing all
com.android.vending
related files.
Is there any other way to bypass this?

TL;DR - How to uninstall the Google Play store?
---
A friend of mine deleted my Google Account as a prank (don't know how it is a prank). When I came home, I just logged in and tried to install some apps, but it wasn't downloading and stuck on Download Pending.
Here is a list of troubleshooting I did:
1) Force stopped and disabled. Cleared data and cache. Uninstalled updates. Restarted the APK but still didn't work. Yes, I also gave it time to update.
2) I deleted all my other accounts and just kept my Google Account. Did the same as 1), didn't work.
3) OK. I remembered that there are modded Play Stores available online. So I downloaded the Lucky Patcher Google Play Store (modded) ver. 14. something and it didn't work. Also, did 1) again after I installed it.
4) When I uninstall the update for the modded app, it requires authorization, meaning I would have to sign in again. No problem, but there is no option to log out, meaning the arrow drop-down doesn't appear. Also, I signed out from Settings and relogged in from Play Store, but still, when I open it, it asks for authorization again.
5) I tried to install the Gapps again. In the XDA forum, it was stated that you just need to install the package again and it will replace the existing Gapps. I did it. I downloaded the nano package. But it asks for Authorization. Still no drop-down.
I am back again with the Lucky Patcher app. It will let me browse APK and use Play Services, but it won't let me install APKs.
How to uninstall Play Store and reinstall it?

I have gone through this post Silent app installation wherein it clearly mentions it's highly impossible to self install the application without going through the whole installer proceedure. But when i read this one
Remotely Installing Unwanted Apps on Devices
i didn't understand how this is even possible
I am aware of the android applications run in a sand box environment so one application cannot install/interfere another until and unless it has an process Id or something/referencing and also should have the user permissions to do so but with the recent silent app installation by some OEM is making me doubt about this security issue.
When one app can then why can't other apps follow suit .
Please avoid answers like don't use Internet at all/root the phone/stop purchasing the devices of that particular make ,company.
The above link might help in some clear understanding

I've got an unrooted Coolpad Porto S running on Android 5.1. I tried to ungoogle it but accidentally removed a vital package. The apps I have been trying to reinstall were
com.android.vending
and com.google.android.webview
(I don't have concrete evidence, but after uninstalling it, I am unable to access any browser application like DuckDuckGo or even Steam) by using pm uninstall -k --user 0 APP
.
I've been trying to install those back using APKs I got from APK Mirror, but if I do through my phone or through adb, they appear in the app list as "Downloaded", however they're also "Not installed for this user". I tried installing them through using adb install -r app.apk
command, then going into adb shell
mode and using pm install -r --user 0 app.apk
, but still the same result. If I don't use the -r
option, it just gives me INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS
error.
If it helps, upon doing pm enable --user 0 com.android.vending
, it gives me Error: java.lang.SecurityException: Permission Denial: attempt to change component state from pid=4418, uid=2000, package uid=10015
error.
After tinkering about for a bit, I am still having a ton of issues with doing that. If it helps, I found the base apk location for the WebView app. It didn't work trying to pm install -r --user 0 directory
, because INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT
, but I managed to get the crash in logcat.
