I'm thinking of buying an ARM laptop as a second laptop for programming and hacking experiments. Ideally I would set it up to multiboot Windows, Linux, and Android. I've seen several articles and videos on the internet for setting up x86 Android on an x86 laptop, but can't find anything on ARM laptops. I'm guessing it would come down to things like device drivers and maybe UEFI? Is it possible for a normal person to install Android natively on an ARM laptop intended for Windows/Linux? (And preferably dualboot/multiboot?) (I'm aware some highly skilled hacker types can probably do it using AOSP. I'm also aware I could just use a VM or emulator. For this question I'm only exploring the options of installing natively on the hardware.)

I have installed Android x86 on my Windows 10 HP Laptop. It was "Android-x86_64-9.0-r2.iso". I ran it on my PC and it opened rooted. I installed an app I required. The app has got lots of videos that are supported for playing only on an unrooted device. So, I couldn't play the app's videos. What I did: - I enabled developer's options and disabled root access in it. I still couldn't play the videos. - Enable Developper Mode. On the developer's options, enable full root access. Run the terminal emulator. Use the followings commands : > su > rm /system/bin/su > rm /system/xbin/su After typing these commands as: *These files are read only files* type of message. The last command resulted in a question y/N and after writing 'y', I still got the former message. None of these methods worked. I need an OS that gives me both root access and unroot access as and when I require. This is quite easy in Android emulators as they have a single option on setting which can enable or disable root access. But my app is not supported on emulators. Hence, the need for OS. PS: I don't know if this is the correct site for my question. I couldn't find very appropriate tags. Please suggest the correct website.Thank you. PS: I am asking regarding whether other OS might be suitable for what I need. Like PrimeOS, BlissOS, RemixOS, etc.

I have installed "android-x86_64-9.0-r2.iso" using USB Bootable Drive method. I am facing two big problems here. 1. After completion of Installation I get two options - Run android or Reboot. I clicked on reboot. My computer booted to Windows 10. The grub menu asking for which OS to boot does NOT appear. I have got UEFI Boot mode with Secure Boot off. My laptop does not support Legacy boot. What can I do about this? 2. When I clicked on Run android after installation or when I run Android Live from the bootable USB Drive only, I don't get a cursor on the screen. My touchpad does not work. My keyboard works. Connecting an external mouse works. I have tried dual booting on my previous Dell Laptop and the touchpad used to work there. Why doesn't it work with my HP PC ? I have searched the internet and lots of other forums regarding this and did not get any conclusive results or workable solutions. Any help would be appreciated.

I am able to run Ubuntu in chroot environment on my Asus Slider sl101 (cousin of the original tf101 asus eee pad transformer). But, for various reasons I would like to be able to actually boot into Ubuntu or Android at will. I am currently running Cyanogenmod 9 ICS and have the device rooted. Another thing to note is that any attempt in the past to use NVflash ... seems to fail On top of that NVflash ubuntu dual boot instructions are usually fairly ... vague. Being a Linux user, ideally I would LOVE it and be in complete bliss if I could choose to login to android the same way I can choose to login to Gnome or Unity or XBMC etc... login to an Android session and just have the option of logging into Unity or Android.... Since Android is really more like a Java runtime environment, it would be ideal to just have Ubuntu as main and just be able to start up the Android runtime environment whenever I needed... But I am not able to do this kind of thing with my limited knowledge and do not understand what the raodblocks are. That being said, anyone know how to get my sl101 dual booting ubuntu? --------------------- **UPDATE 20120821** i found a couple instructions that look very promising. These sights may go down in the future but I will be sure to post detailed instructions if they are successful. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1537566 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23428126&postcount=3 I will be trying the files for both sites. --------------------- **UPDATE 20120823** I've had a few CRIPLING problems so far. 1) the android.zip file from one site works but the one from the other site does not. Be sure to get the android.zip file associated with your ROM that you are using. In my case , I'm using CM9 RC2 so I had to use the CM9 android.zip file found here: http://www.mediafire.com/?labcx60jowrdx or if that server is down in the future you might try to find it from this site again: http://www.mediafire.com/?labcx60jowrdx 2) the ubuntu.zip file works from the oposite site but the one from the other site does not. The one that does not work is called ubuntu-31patch.zip and it was made to flash a more up to date kernel and 3.1.10 kernel modules were also provided but this zip does not work for some reason and I can't figure out why. The one that works for me is here 2.6.24.4 i think is the kernel version number: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/60048492/transformer/Ubuntu-mountloop.zip if that does not work, you might find a new link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1537566 3) The sl101 sliding keyboard does not work but if you plug in an external usb keyboard, the usb keyboard will work. no idea how to get around this problem but .... having the sl101 is useless if the sliding keyboard can't get working. How lame to have to carry around a usb keyboard when there is one attached already ... really want to get this working. 4) wireless internet does not work. I assume that is part of what the 3.1.10 patch was for but the patch doesn't work so I'm still working on this. --------------------- **UPDATE 20120824** Finally got the android-mount.zip file working. I switched the kernelblob with the one that works with my wifi on cyanogenmod 9 and it works like a charm now. In fact, if you have wireless issues with your sl101 or tf101 you might just flash the zip file I made it it might fix them... I'll make the file available with the answer but still trying to get the sliding keyboard working under ubuntu. This is what happens when trying to use the ubuntu31.zip the file that boots ubuntu with 3.1.10 kernel This is what happens when trying to use the ubuntu31.zip the file that boots ubuntu with 3.1.10 kernel these are random errors with the kernel 2.6.36.4 ubuntu-mount.zip file. i wish i understood these are random errors with the kernel 2.6.36.4 ubuntu-mount.zip file. i wish i understood this too

I an installing on an internal notebook HDD that I use as an external dribe from the USB The drive is a 500 GB HDD but has 50 GB, 50 GB, 50 GB partitions on it and the rest is unallocated at the moment I have android x86 (android-x86_64-9.0-rc2.iso ) installed on the first partition (sdb1) and I also installed EFI GRUB2 while installing android I then installed LineagOS x86 (cm-x86_64-14.1-r2.iso ) to the second partition (50 GB) and I also told it to installed EFI GRUB2 while installing LineagOS The GRUB from LineageOS seems to have overwritten the GRUB from android-x86 and now I can't boot into android-x86 from the BIOS boot screen, even though it's files are all there in the first partition Is there any way to edit the GRUB for LineagOS and add an entry to boot android-x86 from the first partition? I also have in internal SATA HDD inside the notebook with Windows 10. I do not want the bootable installations on the external hard drive to affect this windows installation or the internal drive in any way, but it seems the EFI GRUB2 that got installed while installing android-x86 and LineageOS got installed on the internal HDD. This is still still acceptable because it doesn't seem to have affected the windows installation or it's booting procedure in any way, but I am not experienced with GRUB and whatever it is that I have to do, I want to make sure it will not affect the Windows 10 installtion on my internal hard drive. To summarize: sdb1: android-x86 sdb2: LineageOS, bootable using it's GRUB (this grub menu shows up when I select the entry for it in the BIOS boot menu) How do I edit this GRUB menu to also point to the android-x86 installation? Is it possible to do this from Windows?

I have a Chuwi hi10 plus. It is a dual boot windows 10 / android 5.0 tablet that I put on TWRP 3.0.2 rooted it and a custom Lineage OS Marshmallow 6.0.1 ROM on from Konstakang.com Chuwi tablets have a funky inability to boot from USB because have a UEFI boot system.... I need to change the Windows password and there is a sticky keys method to copy cmd.exe over sethc.exe and then use the net user command once the command prompt is opened. I have installed termux and updated the packages and installed tsu for true root access to the filesystem. But . . . the termux mount does not produce a string of its version from mount -V and while mount -t ntfs /dev/block /mnt/xxx command does not give an error - where I have done a mkdir /mnt/xxx it does claim "no such device". I have used the exact device I know is the windows partition which is ntfs from a "cat /proc/partitions" command "ntfs-3g" does not recognize as a command at all, and I even tried the mount_nfsd_fuse setup from https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-mount-internal-windows-partition-t2978679 It must need a touch or something because the file is in /system/xbin but says command not found even invoked as root from that directory The kernel was compiled from source for the ROM by Konstakang so I do not know if ntfs support is in it ... is there a way to check and / or does anyone have a suggestion how to get that partition mounted rw as ntfs internally ??? The Paragon Ntfs rw mounter that is supposed to work with Total Commander has not appeared to operate as pics show it or once did
