Intermittently, when I try to connect to a WiFi network, I get the following error message as a toast message:
> Failed to connect to network
The message pops up immediately upon attempting to connect, so clearly it isn't trying and failing. I haven't found any mention of an error in the logs. The affected networks are ones that I've previously connected to with no change in settings.
**How can I figure out what the problem is?**
I've got a rooted Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.1.1 and the stock ROM. This question is related to another question that I posted earlier , but this one is more about how to find the source of a particular error message, so its focus is different.
# Additional Details
Here are some more details based on the comments:
* I've observed this on my home and work networks. One is identified as WPA2 PSK and the other is identified as WPA/WPA2 PSK.
* I haven't powered off the phone as described in the troubleshooting guide mentioned in the comments. However, I have rebooted to no avail (using the reboot command that's available on rooted phones).
* Forgetting the network and re-adding it has no effect. In fact, if I forget the network I can no longer successfully re-add it.
* The wireless password hasn't changed.
* There's no proxy configured when I'm on wireless. However, I run Onavo Extend when I'm on a data connection. Disabling it has no effect.
* I've switched from DHCP to static IP addresses. Doing so reduced the frequency of problems and seems to have eliminated my earlier issue where wifi would be randomly dropped.
* Wifi sleep is set to "Only when plugged in." I don't think it's relevant because my issue is establishing a connection in the first place (such as when I arrive at home or at work), not maintaining one.
Note that despite all these troubleshooting steps,**my initial goal is to find an actual error message or log entry that gives useful information about the problem.**

It is difficult to grab the notification bar without triggering it, and holding my phone sideways is now an exercise in frustration.
Is there a way to fix this? Did some update recently come out for this device?

Is there a way that I can "boost" my phone's volume / make it louder that works on Android 4.0?
In particular, I am wanting to do this for media playback than notification sounds, but information on either is beneficial.

I don't think this is a hardware issue, but I've not completely discarded the idea either.
Has anyone experienced this? Is this a known issue? Anything I can do about it?

I am having a problem with music playback stutter on my Galaxy Nexus, and after searching about it for a while, it seems the problem was fixed on update 4.0.4.
Unfortunately, my phone is still on 4.0.2 and no OTA Update is currently available.
From past experiences with my Milestone, updating or using a ROM that was not originally from my country (Brazil) resulted in various problems, including no 3G connection and very poor GPS signal.
Is it possible to actually update the Galaxy Nexus manually from 4.0.2 to 4.0.4? If yes, is there a way to know which "version" of the system would be compatible with mine?
Here's the "About Phone" tab on settings:

I'd rather not clutter my phone with 3rd party apps for camera since I don't use it much, but I'd like to have AF for my random quick snaps.
Any tips?

On my Samsung Galaxy Nexus running AOKP 4.2 JellyBean, WiFi has worked without issue before on this exact same hotspot, and it is currently working for other devices, so I'm assuming the error is in the phone. After trying another hotspot, I could see that the WiFi is definitely dead. But after enabling encryption on my device, it gets stuck in a loop. It detects the actual network, but it goes like this:
Saved with X authentication > Authenticating> Obtaining IP address > (Repeat)
I also tried deleting the network and adding it again without success, thinking it had something to do with the cached WPA key.
Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot before I just wipe and reinstall? Is this some kind of known issue?

I am attempting to run an adb backup to my computer from my Samsung Galaxy Nexus, version maguro, v4.2.2 (I guess it's worth mentioning I'm running Windows 7 on my computer). I have tried this with two methods, using the WugFresh Nexus Toolkit, and directly from the command line using the adb executable I got from the android sdk. Each time I attempt it, the adb backup page comes up fine on my phone, but the button to accept the backup is not clickable. I can deny the backup fine, but not accept it. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
The drivers are the most likely problem, but I am running the signed Samsung drivers that I successfully installed from the Nexus Toolkit. Could anyone additionally corroborate if they are/have been a problem? I would consider uninstalling them in favor of another possibility, but don't know which alternative is best, or how to remove the damned signed drivers from my computer so they stop auto-installing.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have installed a custom rom (Cynogenmod 10.2) on my *Samsung Galaxy Nexus i9250* GSM three months before, and everything was running good.
But starting 4 days ago, my phone reboots constantly after every boot up. I am unable to uninstall apps, not able to do factory reset, also not able to wipe data from TWRP recovery, not able to copy files to internal sd card.
I tried flashing stock ROM from google using wugfresh toolkit, using fastboot commands and odin tool. Also tried flashing through adb, given permissions through adb. But none of them seems to work.
I erase all partitions through fastboot and created partitions, but everytime I flash a ROM, it stops at writing
system.img
file, giving an protocol error:
writing 'system'...FAILED (status read failed (Protocol error))
I tried all the possibilities I know, including wiping /system
from recovery before flashing. Please help as I am getting frustrated as my phone is not working and is almost dead.

I just bought a i9250 Nexus, and the system proposed to upgrade to newer version 4.2.1 (it is not a rooted phone. It is an unblocked UK phone)
I played with the new phone and after a couple of days I did upgrade it.
Now the camera is not working. When I try to use the camera, it calls the application and before I can see any image from camera, it says "Unfortunately the GALLERY has stopped"
How can I downgrade to previous version? (The phone is not rooted)
Or, does anybody knows how to fix it? or anything that I can try to bring the camera back to action?

I have a Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.0.1
I tried to install Jelly Bean, and followed all instructions I found on a website (forgot which one). I installed cwh and twh first.
Then I installed Jelly Bean. After the installation I rebooted my phone and it got stuck on a cross with the four colors for more than one hour.
So I tried to remove all of this (Jelly Bean, twh).
But now it's stuck on Google logo.
I tried everything.
I don't know what to do to make my phone work. I flashed it but it's not working.
Can you help me? (A stressed student who cannot pay for the repairs)
Thank you , I really need an answer
By the way, I have a mac.

I bought my Galaxy Nexus in New Zealand - via parallel importing. I believe it came from Russia, given my manual was in Russian(!). But it works perfectly and is genuine.
A colleague there bought one from the same source the next day, and his arrived a day after mine.
I then moved to Canada, and got a Rogers sim card. All good.
However, my ex-colleague got a 4.0.4 upgrade about 8 weeks before myself. I tried forcing an update, but no luck.
Then last week, I finally got 4.0.4, and about the same day, my old colleague emailed to say he got an OTA update to 4.1.
What gives? Is it a geo-fenced roll-out? How can I force an update? (I've gone to system updates to check for an update, but no luck). Or would I have to root and do it manually? I'd prefer not to if there's a simple way to force an update...

I run Jellybean on my Galaxy Nexus, and ever since I switched from ICS I've started getting choppy playback of HD video. I used to be able to watch 720p video without any problem in MX Player. If I switch to software rendering instead of hardware in MX player it improves somewhat, but it's still choppy at least every other minute or so until it recovers. If I play it in the VLC beta I get artifacts every now and then until it works itself out.
Anyone recognize this issue and has any idea what to do about it?
