I'm constantly harassed by these *" Download unsuccessful."* notifications. Download unsuccessful. After taking the above screenshot, I cleared the entire notifications list. Within the next three minutes (usually even less), the list was already overflowing again. Download unsuccessful. I've learned to manage the symptom by navigating to the ***Download Manager*** application settings; hitting *FORCE STOP*, followed by *CLEAR DATA*, and *CLEAR CACHE*. Although the notifications slowly start showing up again. Just one at first, but gradually increasing in number with each occurance. Within a day or two, the numbers are usually back out of control. Download Manager application settings Download Manager application settings I have no idea what it's supposedly attempting to download, or why. But whatever it is, it's not instigated by myself. I could just disable download notifications, but I'd rather identify the underlying problem and kill it directly. Needless to say, I'm not too keen on my devices automatically trying to download random mystery files from the internet. Any ideas? Thanks. FYI: The device in question is a **ZTE Blade L5** smartphone.

WiFi Error: "Failed to connect to network"

Intermittently, when I try to connect to a WiFi network, I get the following error message as a toast message: > Failed to connect to network The message pops up immediately upon attempting to connect, so clearly it isn't trying and failing. I haven't found any mention of an error in the logs. The affected networks are ones that I've previously connected to with no change in settings. **How can I figure out what the problem is?** I've got a rooted Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.1.1 and the stock ROM. This question is related to another question that I posted earlier , but this one is more about how to find the source of a particular error message, so its focus is different. # Additional Details Here are some more details based on the comments: * I've observed this on my home and work networks. One is identified as WPA2 PSK and the other is identified as WPA/WPA2 PSK. * I haven't powered off the phone as described in the troubleshooting guide mentioned in the comments. However, I have rebooted to no avail (using the reboot command that's available on rooted phones). * Forgetting the network and re-adding it has no effect. In fact, if I forget the network I can no longer successfully re-add it. * The wireless password hasn't changed. * There's no proxy configured when I'm on wireless. However, I run Onavo Extend when I'm on a data connection. Disabling it has no effect. * I've switched from DHCP to static IP addresses. Doing so reduced the frequency of problems and seems to have eliminated my earlier issue where wifi would be randomly dropped. * Wifi sleep is set to "Only when plugged in." I don't think it's relevant because my issue is establishing a connection in the first place (such as when I arrive at home or at work), not maintaining one. Note that despite all these troubleshooting steps,**my initial goal is to find an actual error message or log entry that gives useful information about the problem.**

My phone has the following issue: incoming calls don't come through (any attempt to call by other phones results in voicemail), and outgoing calls don't work either (the "Phone" app gets stuck on "Calling..." without even a single beep). Mobile data and SMS do work and the signal is at maximum. I tried switching the SIM card with mine, but the problem persists on the phone. I put the SIM in the second slot, but the problem remains the same. I have disabled both VoLTE and 5G.I tried messing with APNs. I tried calling the emergency number, **and it works, both with and without the SIM card**. I uninstalled and reinstalled the updates for Google Dialer, and I also uninstalled and reinstalled Carrier Services (including the beta release). I have restarted the phone multiple times. I even updated to the latest version (Android 13), but the problem still is the same before and after the update. Has anyone encountered a similar problem? How did you handle it? Phone is a Realme GT Master RMX3363 with Android 13 and 5th of July 2024 security patches applied. This is the output of adb logcat *:E (omitting the 4 left-most columns) when attempting to dial someone:

I'd like to use the Cerberus shell to input commands like taps, swipes, and text. I know how to do it using the command line and ADB shell, but I don't have USB debugging enabled on my Nexus6, so I'm trying to do it using Cerberus. I was under the impression that the same commands should work, but they don't seem to be. I tried sending "input keyevent 26"; it sends, but nothing happens on my phone (the screen should turn on). I also tried "adb shell input keyevent 26", but it just says "error: device not found". Am I doing something wrong? Or is this something the Cerberus shell can't do? Background: I've got a Nexus 6 with a broken screen: no display and no touchscreen. My goal is to run the app SMS Backup and Restore so I can backup my texts before sending in my phone to be replaced. I don't seem to have USB debugging enabled (though I thought I did -- I reinstalled the OS a few months ago) -- when I type "adb devices," the result is blank. I can use the ADB shell to input taps, swipes, and text/numbers to my Nexus4. I think I could blindly use the SMS Backup app by inputting the proper sequence of commands into the Cerberus shell. (Or, maybe even easier, just use the shell to get my phone to cast to my tv or Chromecast; then I could use a OTG mouse.)

The Killer 1650i Wi-Fi card in my Dell G5 5511 laptop died on me recently and I need to use my smartphone as a Wi-Fi adapter for a substitute without having to order a replacement Wi-Fi card. My phone I'm using is an LG V20 running unofficial Android 14 (LineageOS 21). Trying to switch it on while connected to my computer just turns it off immediately (as seen if backing out of the Tethering settings), but the notification and Quick Settings tile still reads that USB tethering is on. Reading the logcat for diagnosing this problem there is this: Tethering: ERROR could not enable IpServer for function RNDIS It's the error message with NO Google Search results. In fact that's such an undocumented error right there! Wi-Fi and Bluetooth tethering work fine. But with the Wi-Fi card dead or disconnected that means I can't use Bluetooth as another way to connect to my computer unless I have a USB adapter for a substitute of it. How the heck do I fix this?

Nothing is broken and everything was working properly until now. I tried turning it back on but it wouldn't restart. I tried the power button with the volume up with no luck four times. I'm not sure what to do and can't find help for this specific phone. Please help.

Volume and sound randomly skipping - how to diagnose?

When listening to media on my phone (Android 11) for the last week or so, the audio will change at random and unprompted, e.g.: - rewinding or fast-forwarding (NB - these functions are mapped to my volume keys if that is relevant) - volume going up or down (including down to zero volume, and up to max) - media pausing at random and also playing at random (this is the biggest issue, as even if I have force-quit my media application, any time the phone is turned on, the application randomly restarts and may start playing my most recent audio at any volume.) It does not happen in a predictable way - sometimes behaviour is normal for hours at a time, sometimes there is a glitch every few seconds. It does not seem to be related to network issues or my headphones, and the volume change buttons don't seem to be obviously broken (and also shouldn't affect pause/restart functions). Without touching anything, I have also occasionally seen the volume slider oscillate randomly up and down. This happens across several apps. I cannot tell if it is a hardware or software issue. Is there any way to either diagnose the cause of this sort of problem, or any way to lock the volume or pause-play functionality so that it does not change unless I explicitly confirm it?

I have a recurring notification chime (whatever my default system notification sound is set to) just about every 3 minutes, even if DND is set (defeats DND even with no app notifications allowed). There is not an actual notification that will show up in the notification history when these sounds happen. The device is a US Galaxy S21 Ultra (SM-G998U), not rooted running stock AT&T image: OneUI v6.0, Android 14, Kernel 5.4.233-qgki-27920445-abG998USQU9FWKC, build UP1A.231005.007.G998USQU9FWKC I ran: adb shell dumpsys audio > %filename% and found the following events responsible for the sounds (systemui every time):

PID 2832 is in fact com.android.systemui - so it seems apparent that the sounds are generated by systemui. How can I get it to stop? You don't appear to be able to block systemui sounds. Any idea what could be causing it or how to troubleshoot further?

My Moto G6 Play runs Android 9. Some time in the last year or so (I don't make a lot of phone calls) people started telling me they couldn't hear me, or only very quietly, when I called them. It's not the microphone because I can use that to record audio on an audio-recording app. It's not the sim because the I can use that in another device without a problem. It's not the default Google phonecall app because the same problem occurs with e.g. Viber. Location might be a factor because I've noticed the problem at home (where I make almost all of my rare phonecalls) but people seem to have been able to hear me during some brief outdoor phone calls. On the other hand perhaps I was speaking louder. Any ideas? ---------- **ETA:** It's not a "two microphone" issue because turning on speaker-phone during a call doesn't make a difference. I can't find any noise-cancelling setting that could be affecting it.

I have an Android phone that partially stopped working: During a video call, the phone suddenly rebooted. After rebooting, some major system features were missing, and I can't seem to get the back to working. The catch: I cannot try the usual solution of doing a factory reset to try to restore system files and apps that may have been corrupted. I moved from my home country, and this phone is used for access to bank accounts and such, which I cannot easily just reinstall, as I can't re-verify my identity in the apps. **TL;DR**: Apps still work, but can't update them, and lost core system functionality, like the home button and notification area. Is it possible to recover them without losing my app data linked to the device? # Details ## What stopped working * General: 1. Home button and app switching (buttons do nothing) 2. Search bar _on Settings app_ does not show up, only a blank gap 3. Motorola's Gestures (shake to open Camera or Flashlight) 4. Custom screenshot stuff * Home Screen: 1. Can't see notifications 2. Corner shortcut icons for Camera disappeared * Notification Area: 1. Cannot expand area for more icons or see settings 2. Lost settings customization 3. Cannot see notifications * Google Play Store 1. Cannot find apps in the system (no pending updates, can't see installed/uninstalled lists) 2. Cannot download new apps (stuck in "Pending") ## What still works * General: 1. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Apps 2. Can access settings 3. Volume, brightness (including adaptive), Camera, Lock button 4. 2-button navigation's dragging upwards (it's the only way that allows me to reach home screen, from app screen) 5. Back/Return button 6. Install apps from their APKs * Home Screen: 1. Fingerprint and password login 2. YouTube Music's play bar * Notifications: 1. Can see notifications inside the Settings app, in Notification history 2. Can still hear the notification sounds + vibration 3. Can open a very basic version of the notification area, with 6 default icons, which I can turn on or off * Settings app: 1. Can normally change settings back and forth 2. Move files between phone and SD 3. Clear app data and cache 4. Start/stop apps * Play Store: 1. Search apps and see ads 2. Google Play Protect 3. The store app is able to update itself ## What I tried 1. Rebooting, multiple times 2. Rebooting into safe mode - Same system issues 3. Opening the bootloader's recovery mode and trying all options that weren't factory reset 4. Installing a new launcher app: it works, but no changes any errors 5. Resetting Google Play app to factory version and clearing all data - Google Play app was able to update itself, but it cannot find any app in the system 6. Clearing user data for multiple Google apps, like Google Play Services or App Customization 7. Uninstalling updates for Motorola's apps ## Phone details * Model: Motorola One Vision (2019) * OS: Android One 11 - Version: RSAS31.Q1-48-36-23 - Latest patch: May 1, 2022. I believe support has ended. ## Possible paths to a solution? 1. Reinstall system files without touching every other file * Can't perform a system update, as it seems to have no more support as of this year. But maybe rerun one, somehow? 2. Backup or transfer all app settings, with their accounts and verification status * to a new phone or Android VM; or * then hard reset the system on this phone, and safely restore the state * I realize this is possible with some backup apps, but I fear on the safety part, because I'd lose what I can still currently do in case it somehow fails 3. Verify integrity of storage of system files to restore safety, with a tool like Windows's sfc /scannow and chkdsk /r 4. Troubleshoot system dependencies * In case this is a corrupted app situation, find which service call is failing for the missing system functionality * Perhaps accessing logs from Play Store or when rebooting in safe mode? Or figuring out the external calls performed by the app for the installation process? 5. Anything else? I'm open to suggestions for achieving these, or perhaps alternatives to recovering the functionality. Thank you in advance.

They didn't even want this one back, and I found it again recently and thought I'd repurpose it as a much newer phone for me (my phone is a six-year-old Alcatel potato that's served me well running apps, but it's small and slow and old). I started down the road of rooting and got super overwhelmed and confused in a hurry, and ultimately gave up and just used Tiny ADB to uninstall all the bloatware on it that I didn't need. It seemed like it would be fine, so I went ahead and got set up with Tello and had them send me a new SIM card. It got here, I put it in the phone... and nothing. I ended up doing a factory reset to see if that helped, since it could just reinstall all my apps and things from the cloud easily, and still nothing. All of Tello's advice involves updating the system in various ways, and that's where the problem is. This phone never succeeded at updating once, in the time my mom was using it. It would periodically try and fail, and was mostly an annoyance whenever it did. But if I do Settings > System > About phone > System update (Update OEM software), none of the options there succeed at anything. I do update profile, it makes a cursory attempt to do it and then I get a popup about "waiting for retry" (with five attempts). Each attempt takes a minute; if I let it muddle through all five, eventually I get a message that says "Your activation could not be completed. Please try again later. If the problem persists you may need to contact Customer Service." I do update PRL, and the mU Software Update overlay just sits on "Checking for PRL update" infinitely. If I go to system update, I get a screen with info about wireless updating and how it works, and if I hit "checking for updates", it checks and then says no updates are available. If I hit the last option under the system updates menu, UICC Unlock (important for this instance), I get a popup from mU Software Update that says "UICC unlock fail. Error Code: 23. Description: DM Auth failed with 407 status code". Assurance Wireless isn't going to be able to help me with this. I don't even want to bother with calling them, because I'll end up with someone in a call center in Dubai or wherever, and they're not going to be able to do anything with the fact that it's not a current, active Lifeline phone. So. Is there a way to deal with this? Would rooting get me around these issues and let it work as a phone NOT on the Sprint network? **Edit:** Since I've mostly struck out with this same post over on Tom's Guide, I'll clarify some things here as well. My primary wish is to get the update functions working so that I can progress with activating the Tello SIM. As far as I can tell the phone is already unlocked; Assurance Wireless will likely be of no help, and my mom never dealt with Sprint directly, because this is a former Lifeline phone, so they wouldn't be able to help either. And if the updating can't be fixed, I would like to know IF rooting would bypass the problem, and if it would then I have to find someone who can really hold my hand through it because my dip into rooting was super baffling and unsuccessful.

I have a stock OnePlus 8T+ 5G TMO that has been displaying very strange behavior. It would ask if I want to boot into safe-mode every time I try to power down or restart, and sometimes it would continuously flash on then go dark again after going to lock screen, as if the power key were being continuously spammed. Eventually, I realized it was behaving as if the volume up key were "stuck". This is strange, because the hard key itself is very clearly giving mechanical feedback on both actuation and then release. Nonetheless, I thoroughly cleaned the whole phone with a liberal amount of 99% isopropyl (after powering down from the recovery menu), and then was successfully able to power back on and have normal operation again. However, I did notice the volume keys were still behaving a bit strangely; to begin with, I only confirmed it was stuck in a "down" state at all because after booting into the recovery menu, it immediately began to rapidly cycle through the menu choices as if the button were held down. Pressing down on any key (including itself) would pause the cycling, but letting go would immediately resume it. After the cleaning, it would have practically no delay on input nor repeat delay, almost like it had "Turbo Mode" turned on like on the old-school modded controllers. Since it's at least in a usable state now, I enable ADB and hop on my Chromebook to take a look at logcat. So what I'm seeing is that each individual key press is getting logged as four lines: > \# adb -d shell logcat > --------- beginning of main > 08-18 21:46:14.770 1176 2717 D APM_AudioPolicyManager: setVolumeCurveIndex device 00000002, index 1 > 08-18 21:46:14.774 1176 1780 D APM_AudioPolicyManager: setVolumeCurveIndex device 00000002, index 1 > 08-18 21:46:14.775 1176 1780 D APM_AudioPolicyManager: setVolumeCurveIndex device 00000002, index 1 > 08-18 21:46:14.775 1176 1780 D APM_AudioPolicyManager: setVolumeCurveIndex device 00000002, index 1 Unfortunately, I'm not too familiar with troubleshooting hardkeys, so I'm actually not too sure whether this behavior is expected or not?

So I want to redirect my Android phone's HTTP traffic through a proxy running on my computer, in my case Burp Suite. I tried doing so by changing the WiFi settings and also by using the Drony app. I also installed Burp's SSL certificate on my phone. When I visit websites using Chrome, everything works fine both on HTTP and on HTTPS, and I can see all the requests on Burp. But when I use a different app - any app - I get a "cannot connect to the Internet" error message and I can't use the app. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I should also mention that my phone is not rooted.

Revoked permission to change phone settings to ALL apps that had one (including g services) 3. Disabled all BT scanning related things that I have found. How to find what is turning BT on?

My Samsung Galaxy Y GT-S5360 is not starting
I was installing a custom ROM on my Samsung Galaxy GT-S5360. The installation aborted abruptly and I lost all data from my phone. Now my phone won't start and is stuck at the Samsung Galaxy Y GT-S5360 logo. I tried to flash the stock ROM via Odin but it is not detecting my device.

I have a Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, Android 11, which I generally love. I have a SD card connected to it. It's 2 years old. Storage-wise, I have tons of space, especially on the SD card. I an experiencing semi-frequent reboots. Today, in fact, it rebooted on 3 separate occasions -- a little unusual for me. I'm good at troubleshooting desktop apps, but not so much with android stuff. Is there a process to follow? Where to go to get good info? Are there any utilities to use to help troubleshoot? I haven't found much useful information under Settings. Today I was using the Twitter app before all 3 reboots, and for the third reboot, the only app I was running was Twitter, which seems like a dead giveaway. But how can I confirm this? I'm not convinced that Twitter is the only cause, but have no idea how to check. It wouldn't surprise me if the Twitter app was causing problems. It connects to and launches other apps within it (news app, etc). And there are some complaints at the Google Play store. But I really feel I don't understand how to track and resolve problems like this. Any help is appreciated. Under the Settings --> Apps --> Twitter, I see that average memory usage is 4.2 MB, and that maximum memory usage is 268MB which does not seem excessive to me. Final question. If one app is causing reboots, is deleting and installing fresh likely to help?

My android phone has heavy abnormal battery drains coming from Android system. **2000mAh and above on a single charge! I know for certain this is a software issue and not hardware.** Before I hit the sack. Battery was around 96%, next morning 80%! Normal overnight drains on my mobile model is 1-2%, I am having around 15%. 1. During sleep, All my radios are usually off (WiFi, NFC, Bluetooth, Data, location), except phone. 2. My phone seems to be in deep sleep a good portion of that time (See WLD statistics - attachment #1). 3. Android system sucks my battery during sleep and it was at 90% relative consumption when I woke up (See screen shot #1, **Android sys has consumed 1840mAh in such a short time span!! This is ridiculously high for a phone that is apparently in Deep Sleep!**) 4. Also attached screen shots from WLD for Summary, Kernal / Partial wakelocks & Alarms. 5. Device is rooted. 6. Google sync is off, Backup is off. I have searched all over. Read numerous threads from numerous forums. Some users have faced this issue on the same ROM while some others haven't. I have done my "homework". But this is one issue that I do not see any solutions wherever I look. I have searched days, not hours!! Hence I decided to post over here. This is my hail mary attempt at solving this. If the experts here can't solve it, then I guess it would be pointless to search anymore. **What is the issue that is causing this battery drain from Android System?** I have noted that many users using my model (Huawei Mate 8) do not face this issue, while some users do face it. enter image description here enter image description here enter image description here enter image description here

My Samsung Galaxy S5 suddenly and quickly started deteriorating a few days ago. I did also install a software update from Verizon about a week ago, but what's odd is how the symptoms worsened gradually. (Why would software do that?) * It started with occasional, random power-offs. No worries, I just rebooted. * Later, some of those times I started seeing "SECURE FAIL: KERNEL" in red. 1 or 2 extra reboots, though, and I'd be good to go. * Yesterday, the phone shut off a few times, taking more reboots to get things going. * Now, sometimes the power button doesn't respond (not even the vibration). When it does, sometimes nothing shows up on the display. If a display shows, it might hang on the _Samsung GALAXY S5 "Powered by Android"_ loading screen—but that's not as common.* More common is simply going to that "SECURE FAIL: KERNEL" screen. I've been rebooting for an hour now—probably 20+ times—with no success in getting a full boot. * This screen actually says "Custom" as well, with an unlocked padlock icon. But I've never rooted a phone, nor done anything "custom." I read something about ART vs. Dalvik and that it's normal for this phone. Plus, that started showing up months ago, so I'm guessing it's unrelated. **Given the variety of symptoms—from the power button not responding to this "SECURE FAIL: KERNEL" message, and also the _gradual_ degrading of successful reboot attempts, am I correct to conclude that this is more likely a hardware issue than software, _e.g._ the update to Lollipop, if that's what it was?** Some other notes that may contain clues for the more experienced: - I did manage to get into recovery mode once, and wiped the cache. - The other two attempts left me with a screen saying "SECURE FAIL: RECOVERY". - Sometimes the phone seems to start up by itself after 10+ minutes of not being touched, having a black display, and no indicator lights. - While plugged in and in the above state, I don't see the green battery charging animation. Maybe that means it's not really "off" but stuck in some software block or loop. - Once I did see the battery animation, and the battery was at 88%, so I think the battery's okay. - This is a S5 G900V that I purchased new from Verizon in October 2015. I wish it would start up properly just _once_ so I can get some data off the phone's memory. --- An interesting development. While typing this post, it got past "SECURE FAIL: KERNEL", but froze at the Samsung logo animation. Then, the display went black, while the blue indicator light stayed on. A few minutes later, the phone restarted itself, passed the _Powered by Andoird_ screen as it usually does, and hit "SECURE FAIL: KERNEL." I rebooted again, and saw something I saw only once before, "SECURE FAIL: Modem."
