Just under a year ago, I changed carriers due to carrier unlock policies. The provider I switched to I was able to get the Pixel 7 Pro on a payment plan (2 years). With it being a Pixel, I thought at the time all Pixels were OEM unlockable. Man was I wrong, not only am I stuck paying off this phone for 2 years, but without carrier unlock first that can't happen. I know in every other device that If I issued a certain adb disable command, it bypassed that. Is there not something similar I can do to get OEM unlock without carrier unlock? Any help is much appreciated.

Realme GT Master: can't make or receive calls

My phone has the following issue: incoming calls don't come through (any attempt to call by other phones results in voicemail), and outgoing calls don't work either (the "Phone" app gets stuck on "Calling..." without even a single beep). Mobile data and SMS do work and the signal is at maximum. I tried switching the SIM card with mine, but the problem persists on the phone. I put the SIM in the second slot, but the problem remains the same. I have disabled both VoLTE and 5G.I tried messing with APNs. I tried calling the emergency number, **and it works, both with and without the SIM card**. I uninstalled and reinstalled the updates for Google Dialer, and I also uninstalled and reinstalled Carrier Services (including the beta release). I have restarted the phone multiple times. I even updated to the latest version (Android 13), but the problem still is the same before and after the update. Has anyone encountered a similar problem? How did you handle it? Phone is a Realme GT Master RMX3363 with Android 13 and 5th of July 2024 security patches applied. This is the output of adb logcat *:E (omitting the 4 left-most columns) when attempting to dial someone:

Today, I got this message out of the blue after a system update. > **CelcomDigi Berhad** > > This mobile device has a lock protection feature against accidental loss or theft. For more info about this feature, visit https://cd.link/pcbs . This feature will be used as a reminder for any outstanding payments if the device is purchased with plans. screenshot Checked in web search. The only result mentions Malaysia. The name in the title of the message is a Malay cellular provider. No hints on how to delete this application. Is this a scam or not? How do I get rid of this app?

My phone has been sending messages without my knowledge, as well as erasing certain abilities such as being able to pull up my keyboard while messaging someone. It seems like something or someone is messing around with my permissions, so I was looking through the "special permissions apps" and came across "T-Mobile Diagnostics". When I googled it, it said it was a downloaded APK file, but didn't say why or who downloaded it. What is T-Mobile Diagnostics version "80231-808927712-REL-DIAG-2023.01-dark-release" used for?

I feel like I should have been able to find the answer to this, maybe I'm distracted or something, but does anyone know how carrier/network/sim lock actually works and if there are any workarounds? Say I wanted to make one of those unlocking services. What is the process? I saw a couple answers from some years ago, they all seem fairly vague and as if it's actually an unknown, so I'm not sure if that's current information. It seems inevitable that someone would have leaked or reverse engineered that information by now, right?

Since the name is long, it pushes other notifications to the right and they get cropped (my phone has a notch for the front camera). The best solution for me would be to limit the size of the mobile network name (using ellipsis ... if it's too long), but it seems to not be possible. As a second-best solution, how can I hide the network name? I use Android 12 on a Fairphone 4, so it's pretty close to stock Android.

I currently have a Motorola Moto G6 Play that was originally purchased 3 years ago from Virgin Mobile USA (which doesn't exist anymore), and was never activated. Interested in getting it network-unlocked, I called Boost Mobile (which acquired Virgin Mobile USA's assets), but was told to do that I'd first need to activate it for at least 12 months as per their contract. Is there any way around that requirement? Does such a contractual requirement to activate a phone before network-unlocking it last in perpetuity, or does it expire at some point? It's pretty unclear what the helpline person was telling me in this regard.

A couple days ago I rooted my phone and I hard bricked it. I am debating whether or not to just send it in to get JTagged (for 50$) or to just try to get a new one under warranty. I have heard everything from: >You can send a rooted phone back. Doesn't really matter. [Returning Rooted Phones](http://forums.androidcentral.com/optimus-v-rooting-roms-hacks/178469-returning-rooted-phones.html) and > I've returned a stock, rooted phone and even forgot to put the modded battery icon back to stock. No issues. [ATT Detecting rooted phones?](http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1217399) to: >they can and do check. because they refurbish many of the returns for reuse. they can easily remove the rooted setup in favor of stock. but that isn't the point. its best to remove root with a restore if at all possible with the stock zv9 update. then the device is sent back in factory state. if you cant accomplish this due to issues with the device that prevent it,then you have to send it back as is. but the latter should always be the case to return it not restored. [Returning Rooted Phones](http://forums.androidcentral.com/optimus-v-rooting-roms-hacks/178469-returning-rooted-phones.html) and >not sure if they check that but if they did they can do anything from sue for fraud, since you lied. they can cancel your plan and ruin your esn. thats really about it. im not sure if they think its worth the hassle though. So what is the truth behind this? Is it risky to return a bricked/rooted phone to your carrier? Is it different for each carrier? (AT&T, Verison, T-Mobile, ...) Are there any precautionary measurements out there people should take before they return a rooted device? -------------------- Update: I received my new phone and then I shipped my bricked phone back to Verizon and I never heard back. Either they didn't check that it was rooted or they didn't care, either way I've got a functional phone again. Thank you for everyone's answers!

Side effects of Android CarrierConfig reporting a foreign network as ”not roaming”

Android has a system app, CarrierConfig, which sets certain network parameters based on the carrier which supplied the currently inserted SIM card. Among others, the CarrierConfig app can tell Android that certain networks (identified by the MCC/MNC pair) should not be considered roaming even though the MCC/MNC differs from that on the SIM. (See this answer to a previous question of mine for details on its inner workings.) I am wondering if this mechanism can be used for EU roaming. As of last year, EU carriers can no longer charge roaming fees for use on other EU networks, as long as the majority of usage is in the “home state” of the SIM card, or the subscriber can demonstrate some ties with that state (e.g. residence, work, study or family). The idea would then be: for every EU carrier, insert a list of all EU MCCs into its list of non-roaming networks (omitting the MNC makes it a catch-all for every network with that MCC). As I understand the mechanism, the effect would be that, with a SIM from an EU carrier, the phone would then assume to be on its home network. Roaming restrictions (such as disabling mobile data) would then only apply outside the EU. For example, if I disabled data roaming, my phone would still have data connectivity in Austria, France and Italy but not in Switzerland. I suggested this to the LineageOS folks the other day and was told this was not going to happen, as in their opinion EU roaming is still roaming and such a rule would break it. Unfortunately they did not elaborate on that, so I don’t know if there’s some undesirable side effect I’m missing. The only side effect of the “EU-to-EU = not roaming” ruleset that I can see is that the user can no longer make settings à la “use data services on network 232-07 only, but not on other networks even in the EU”. Whether this constitutes a relevant use case is debatable. Is there anything else I have missed (i.e. functionality this change will break)?

If I check in *#*#4636#*#*, I can see that the Network Mode is set to LTE / UMTS auto (PRL). However, that choice is not available on my phone. ## Baseband? Between the stock rom and Lineage OS, I've tried another rom (BV5500Pro_EEA_E535_V1.0_20190514V8) to test that I could flash my phone. Could that have messed with the baseband, or something else? My current baseband is E535_39_P0_LWTG_V0.1.4_S190402.

Having two 4G capable sims -from truely two different operators (no virtual carriers at all)- and a Dual Active sim phone (Zenfone 2 Laser), I want to do true load balancing with a 1 sim + 1 sim 4G/3G data links configuration. However, all I can find when googling is about Dual-Carrier -or Dual-Band (HSDPA++, LTE)-, which is clearly not what I'm trying to do since it's just combining two same operator frequencies to boost speeds. The approach is like the "speedify" tool, but instead of mixing 4G and WiFi, I only want to mix the 3G/4G sims. So, the question is: Do someone know how to achieve that on Android ? By the way, is this automatically managed in Android, or is it driver/kernel/modem (e.g. Qualcomm X10, X12 hardware/firmware, etc) dependant or do I have to enable something manually ? Any information about that is ok too :) If possible, the best scenario would be having twice the Dual-Band enabled. This means a Dual Carrier + Dual Carrier configuration, for a total of 4 bands from two totally different operators.
