I've recently moved to the Geneva area on the border between France and Switzerland. I live in France where I have a French mobile (and home) phone contract, but work just over the border (within a mile of it!) in Switzerland.
The Swiss networks are stronger near my work than French ones, but I can usually get a French signal. I can use several French networks without incurring roaming charges for phone/SMS/internet use, but any of the Swiss ones will cost me a small fortune.
In Android (actually Cyanogenmod versions based on Gingerbread and ICS is what I've tried so far so far) I seem to have two options:
**a)** *Only* allow to join my home network and ignore all others, both French and Swiss. In this case I often have no connection at all.
**b)** Connect to *any* network, in which case the phone will often choose to connect to a Swiss network and hence incur costs. (And in practice will render me unable to use the mobile data connection since I've disabled data roaming).
Is there a way that I can rank networks in order of preference so that French networks (if joinable) will be preferred to Swiss ones, even if there are Swiss networks with a stronger signal? I've looked for settings and apps to do this, but without success... other than some rather dangerous looking stuff with the Preferred Roaming List (PRL), which doesn't seem to be exposed to the normal UI.
I guess most people don't live/work on borders so this feature hasn't been that much in demand -- but the network operators unfortunately don't have any cross-country deals to help frontier-dwellers either, so a technological solution is probably needed!

I’m currently experiencing an issue with my Samsung Galaxy A15 4G. After approximately 6 hours of usage, the phone suddenly behaves as if there’s no SIM card inserted.
I’ve conducted some tests and found that the same issue persists even when the SIM card is placed in the second slot. This has led me to wonder if the problem could be due to the age of my SIM card, which is nearly 8 years old, or if it’s an issue with the phone itself.
**Update:** I tried a different SIM card and still did the same thing. Also, note that the device is rooted, not sure if that can be something. Also, just testing the phone with none rooted AP file.
Does anyone have any insights on whether the age of a SIM card could cause such an issue? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

**EDIT2**
How to check that I have correct modem for the phone ?
*#*#4636#*#*
but it didn't bring up the Testing Menu. I am not able to search operator or change the network mode. The IMEI in *#06#
and in the phone is same.
When I remove the sim it displays insert sim card. When I reinsert it, it's able to find there is a sim inserted but there is no signal.
I installed Network Mode app and it shows Radio is Off. Turn Radio On is not working.
When I get into settings for mobile network, it will not allow me to search. When I click search it will say mobile network not available. Both automatic and manual search says the same. The SIM works fine in another device. I can confirm its definitely device.
Can somebody point me in the right direction?
**EDIT**
I have updated the phone using Kies and now its in 5.0.2. Still no signal. There is a Blocked Symbol near the Wifi Symbol

When I go to settings I can see MAC adress which is default one 02:00:00:00:00:00. I've noticed that its common problem for phone like Nexus 5, 5x 6p and Pixels but all solutions I could find just failed.
**What i have tried:**
first simplest solutions they gave like pulling off SIM card, turning off phone, charging battery to 100%. - Failed
Then i was trying to install other versions of Nougath 7, 7.1 , 7.1.2. Switching back to Android 6 makes wifi running again.
Some people said that changing MAC adress resolved issue, so firstly I have rooted my phone. Then I have tried to use some external programs for changing MAC but they didint worked.
**Problem**
I am trying to change MAC manualy. I did it few times on other linux/windows machines with no issue.
when i check for avalible network interfaces throught
*ifconfig*
it outputs
bullhead:/ $ ifconfig

there is no *eth0* interface nor *wlan0*. All of those interfaces does not have mac assigned. As I have tested *rmnet_ipa0* and *rmnet_data0* are probably for mobile connection (ifconfig (rm..) down makes mobile connection off.
So my question is how do I find network interface for wifi so I can try digging in it.
Thanks!

https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_a22_5g-10873.php lists this phone as having 5G bands:
I verified that its 'Network mode' is set to
1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 40, 41, 78, 79 SA/NSA/Sub6
Entering my phone's IEMI into https://www.imei.info only shows the following: IMEI.info: LTE-FDD: 800, 900, 2100, 2600
and IMEI.info: LTE-TDD: 2300, 2500, 2600

5G/LTE/3G/2G (auto connect)

I also tried resetting its network settings via General management

Still, it only shows 4G+
. It never shows 5G
.
Any idea why?

I woke up one morning to find my mobile (it's pretty beat-up and recently had a professional screen replacement) displaying "No Service". I'm now unable to use mobile internet, make calls or texts. Other connections, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc. are working fine.
Here's what I've done so far:
- Check that the SIM works > I've visited my network provider and have got a replacement SIM. This has been check that it works in another functional phone.
- Checked that the phone detects the SIM > *#06# in the dialer correctly shows the IMEI number and when I go to SIM Manager, it correctly shows my network provider.
- Tried to manually select network provider, but when I try to deselected "Select automatically" I get a "Error while searching for networks" message.
- Reset mobile network settings > no change.
- Factory reset > no change.
- Used *#0011# to show SIM info > HPLMN(234-30F) sim_state(0), No Service, Final IMEI Certi: PASS
- Used *#9900# → run cp based log → copy to sdcard, then found the *internal storage/log folder/err folder/ss_log folder/MIPI_TEST.txt.* All devices were detected Present(0)
- Used the Samsung Members Diagnostic tool to check all hardware - came back all OK.
- Disassembled and inspected for loose connections and checked continuity of antenna cables (the white and blue ones). Reassembled and rechecked phone hardware - still "no service".
I've been through just about every post on this and tried everything. No idea what to try next. I'm suspecting hardware failure. No idea what to replace. Antenna module? Charging port module? Motherboard?
Any ideas?

I am aware about the different apps for checking 5G connection status on Android, the most useful of which I see CellMapper which says a lot of useful info about the current 5G connection. The one piece I am still missing is the deployment type of the 5G on the cell tower I am connected to. What I mean by deployment type is either SA (Standalone 5G) or NSA (non-standalone). Briefly speaking, it is the way 5G connection is established on the cellular infrastructure, either it uses the legacy 4G equipment (NSA) or new 5G equipment built from scratch (SA).
I wasn't able to find that info in CellMapper, nor in the
Is there any way to check this info? I am asking specifically for Samsung Galaxy but appreciate any Android-wide answer.

In a SIM, there are several lists used by the phone to know which network it has to try to register to.
The lists are updated when the mobile device tries to register under the mobile network of a foreign operator. If a mobile network is included in a list of forbidden networks, the mobile device doesn't try to register to that network.
Some not-exhaustive examples:
- Forbidden PLMNs for GPRS service
- 5GS forbidden tracking areas for roaming
- Forbidden tracking areas for roaming
- Forbidden location areas for roaming
- ...
The list update is done on the basis of the answer the mobile device gets from the foreign network during the registration phase or after the registration through a message called OTA (Over the Air).
TelephonyManager
provides a method to get the list of forbidden PLMNs (getForbiddenPlmns
): is it a complete list of all the operators included in all the lists in the SIM (see list above), or is it only the list of Forbidden PLMNs for which the mobile phone received a Roaming not Allowed answer to the registration trial?

I haven't yet come across a situation where factory reset didn't resolve the issue. This one is very intriguing to me as I could not conclude why the phone could stay in the partial flight mode (faded blue). It may be a coincidence, but it happened sometime after the firmware update. However, it doesn't look like a widespread issue to assume it is a bug. I have attached an image that shows flight mode in faded blue. It stays that way until I switch to Wi-Fi calling or remove the SIM card from the tray. I cannot select networks from the settings - "Error while searching for networks."
Here are the steps I have taken so far:
1. Wipe cache partition
2. Clear SIM cache, grant permissions, network rest, restart device
3. Multiple resets with flight mode on and off, finally did a Factory rest
4. Used ODIN flashed with latest stock ROM
5. Used ODIN flashed with a year-old ROM - system performed updates as well
6. Used ADB shell to enable cell in airplane mode, no impact. ADB mode shows flight mode was off.
7. Replaced with new SIM card, no difference
Based on the above steps, it looks like this is probably a hardware issue, but I would be relieved if it comes from experts. No drops or physical damages to the phone. I haven't read anywhere that partial flight mode results from hardware failure. However, neither ADB made any difference to conclude it as a software/GUI issue. If there aren't solutions left, I can make peace with my phone.
I would appreciate your comments and inputs.

It is a refurbished Yureka Note.
I added a newly activated sim in it. It's sending and receiving text messages. After saving the gprs/mms settings sent by mobile operator, I am able to use internet (which is pretty fast) as well.
However, despite trying variety of things, I am unable to make or receive calls on it. When I tried calling it from another number it says: outside network coverage.
Given that signal is full, my guess is that this has something to do with no VoLTE support in this phone.
I tried many options from *#*#4636#*#* also. If I select WCDMA/GSM only then there is no signal. When I use LTE only, there is signal but calling *to* it says Line Busy.
Is there any way to make calling work on this device with this sim?

My phone has started to suddenly disconnect from the mobile network without anything happening to cause it. Following some advice Online (Removing Sim, Force Stopping the SIM Toolkit app, resetting connections, turning phone off, inserting SIM again, turn back in) but it barely makes a difference.
Does this sound like a hardware problem or as something that could be solved through software? Any response is more than welcome.
