I have Android 7.0 and I'm trying to upgrade it to Android 8 or 9 because some apps require that as the minimum version.
The problem now is I feel like my phone has stopped receiving updates from the manufacturer so I want to know if it is possible to manually upgrade it through ADB (or something) with my laptop.
When I check the phone's software updater it says there are no upgrades and it's the latest version but we both know that isn't true, so I'm trying to forcefully upgrade it.
My phone is T-Mobile and the model is 5049W
**Edit:** It doesn't even seem like there's a custom ROM/recovery for this particular model of T-Mobile.

How to tether on T-mobile Motorola Edge 2024 (Android 14)?

I bought a new Motorola Edge 2024, Android 14, and Kernel v5.10.198. The first thing I checked when I got home was tethering. I was shocked to see "not sharing internet" on the hotspot WiFi selector. Sure enough, upon configuration, a connected device could not ping Google.
It also says "sharing internet" on the Bluetooth selector. So I paired my Dell Inspiron 5502 laptop to my Android phone, and activated the Bluetooth tethering selector. My laptop is unable to ping over Bluetooth.
The only similar questions I found had to do with a Windows setting. I need the same for Ubuntu. I cannot find a way to enable Bluetooth IP networking on my Ubuntu 24.04 laptop.
Is there a way to bypass the WiFi tethering block on this new Android OS? If not, can anybody point me in the correct direction to configure my laptop correctly? I suspect that to be the issue.

My phone has been sending messages without my knowledge, as well as erasing certain abilities such as being able to pull up my keyboard while messaging someone. It seems like something or someone is messing around with my permissions, so I was looking through the "special permissions apps" and came across "T-Mobile Diagnostics".
When I googled it, it said it was a downloaded APK file, but didn't say why or who downloaded it.
What is T-Mobile Diagnostics version "80231-808927712-REL-DIAG-2023.01-dark-release" used for?

I have a moto g(7) power with an international T-Mobile plan that is supposed to allow me to use my phone in most countries around the world without needing to get new SIM cards. This works most of the time, but I've noticed a few countries not behaving correctly. What normally happens is that I'll get a text message from T-Mobile saying "Welcome to X country" and explaining that I have 5 gigs of high-speed data per month for that country. Then once the high-speed data runs out, I can still use unlimited low-speed data for the rest of the 30-day cycle. But for the countries where this doesn't work, I'll still get the text message that confirms the country is covered by my plan and I'll see that I have cell signal but when I open a browser or try to use messaging apps it says there's no Internet.
Here is how it worked in Australia and New Zealand for example:
- ✅ I get a text confirming that I have coverage in the country
- ✅ The cell signal icon indicates a strong connection
- ✅ I am able to use mobile data
Here is how it's working in Fiji:
- ✅ I get a text confirming that I have coverage in the country
- ✅ The cell signal icon indicates a strong connection
- ❌ I am not able to use mobile data
Curiously, it seems that I am able to make phone calls and use SMS in Fiji, and I guess that's because those things are considered by phone plans to be different from mobile data.
At first I thought maybe the problem was related to the 5 gigs of high-speed data being expired, but the problem still wasn't solved when the cycle ended and my high-speed data was renewed. I've tried using mobile data in Fiji both with and without high-speed data available and the problem is the same in both cases.
T-Mobile customer support didn't seem to understand the problem unfortunately. Here are the troubleshooting steps they ran me through:
1. I reset the phone's network settings multiple times
1. I restarted the phone multiple times
1. I enabled international roaming
None of that worked, of course. What is causing this problem, and is there anything I can do to fix it?

Whenever I try accessing download mode on Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, I click on reboot to bootloader but it takes me to a bootloader menu, where I get options like recovery mode, start, boot to FFBM, etc... yet, all of these options lead me into the main recovery mode menu.
The phone is locked by T-Mobile and I think it may have something to do with it, I'm trying to flash the modem to unlock the phone.
Any advice on how to get it unlocked?

I use Textra for my messaging, and am running Android 12 (kernel version 5.4.86) on my OnePlus 9 Pro. I interact with several services via shortcodes and know and trust them (and know I do not get charged for using them)... stuff like appointment confirmations from doctor's offices, etc. However, every time I try to respond to a message I get this annoying prompt:
> **Textra** would like to send a message to **XXXXXX**.
>
> 🪙 This **may cause charges** on your mobile account.
>
> Cancel **Send**
I recall getting something like that before, but I thought it'd had a "don't show this again" option -- which evidently no longer exists. Is there a way to make this prompt go away? Preferably I'd like it to just STFU altogether (I'm not going to text a shortcode I don't recognize, it's going straight to the blocklist) but if I can even get the message to go away on a per-shortcode basis that would be an improvement.

How can I remove this notification without disabling Wi-Fi calling? This notification cannot be swiped away like most others, and I consider it to be a nuisance.
There was a "solution" to this problem, posted on Reddit , but it only works temporarily, the notification returns as soon as a phone call is made or you connect to Wi-Fi again. Another "solution," posted on YouTube , involves disabling notifications for the IPService app, but this does not work for newer versions of Android.
I am running android 6.0.1 and I'm on T-Mobile, but I would guess that this notification is here for all carriers and Android versions which support Wi-Fi calling.

Some apps (Outlook, Gmail, Life360) **do not function on cellular data, but function perfectly on WiFi**. I've already checked for unlimited cell data, resetting APNs, reinstalling the apps, factory resetting and installing only those apps... I uninstalled Family Link as well after reading about that on a Google forum. I also saw the "google apps lose connection..." article, but its steps don't help. Needless to say, everything is updated.
Other apps, like Google Search, NHL, etc. work fine on cell. However, some websites like discord.com give certificate errors when loading.
When I say Outlook doesn't work, here is more detail about its symptoms: Message notifications appear, but the messages don't load. Outlook says "no connection." Similar issues with Gmail. Life360 can't load locations/sync at all, either. Trying to set up Outlook on just cell leads towards this article (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/azure/active-directory/adal-authenticate-android-devices-fail) , but I can't verify that this is indeed the problem (I have am not redirected to a federated STS login page.)
The phone is a T-Mobile Revvl V+ 5G running up-to-date Android 11. Other iPhone devices on the same T-Mobile plan work fine, so this appears to be a T-Mobile/Android/device problem, especially as the problem is with many (but confoundingly, not all) apps.
Note: the issue appears both with WiFi enabled, but unavailable, and with WiFi off.
This is most irritating, as if I needed a WiFi device, I would use a laptop. Any help is *extremely* appreciated!

I don't have an Android, but my girlfriend said she needed an SD card, so I got her one. She put it in her phone, it just said 'setting up SD card' and she didn't have to do anything else.
It made her ringtones for specific callers stop working. Then it stopped even showing her downloaded ringtones in Zedge and started using a 'default' ringtone which is one she had never heard, her phone is a T-Mobile Touch and its default ringtone is the T-Mobile theme, not the one that is playing.
She has also been using a pet shop game on her phone for about 2 years and now she can't use it. It will just say the app isn't installed. Going into the application manager, I can see that there is a file with the word 'petshop' in it saying it is on the SD card, the file and the other 2 (one is eBay app) are grayed out.
The whole purpose of the SD card was so that she could move all of her pictures of our son onto it in order to have them printed out or to move them to a new phone when she gets one. I don't honestly even know how to do that.

However, some 800-number company has been calling me constantly (which I have already added to a "block" contact which directs all calls to voicemail via Contact app menu option). However, they leave voice mails which creates this notification on my phone:
Click the image for larger variance
But I cannot swipe away this notification. It is a constant and persistent notification.
Is there a way I can either:
1. Never show voicemail notifications (without having to call T-Mobile and disable my voicemail box)
2. Swipe to remove the notification or hide the notification (via an app or similar?)
I am rooted on a stock Nexus 5.
I would have just used Google Voice as my voice mail box but apparently T-Mobile prepaid lines cannot have call forwarding so I can not use that option.

I don't go out much these days since there is Covid, but I'd like to have Internet once in a while and somehow the Mobile Data doesn't seem to connect, yet I can do phone calls just fine. It's it using the same connection for data?
I do have a data plan in good standing and it definitely worked before (last time I can say I tried was some time last summer, so about 6 months ago).
Any idea what I could try next?

Can too many text messages stored on my phone prevent me from receiving new messages?
Recently I've had multiple people text me, yet I haven't received the messages. I checked the messaging log on my cell account online, and the incoming messages are listed, yet they never showed up on my device.
I spoke with T-Mobile tech support; he said that I had too many messages on my phone (5000+), and that the more text messages I have stored on my device, the higher the chance of an incoming message getting corrupted (that is, not received). He recommended keeping only ~200 messages on my phone.
Is that good advice?
He also said to restart my phone every night, which I'll start doing (instead of every few days), but I had never heard to not store too many messages, so I was curious if there is a technical basis for his advice...
I have an HTC One S (Android 4.1.1), and I am using the stock messaging app on T-Mobile (in the US).
