I'm searching for a way to set the BSSID my OnePlus One (running LineageOS 16) is connecting to. I started adb shell as root and tried to change the BSSID in /data/misc/wifi/WifiConfigStore.xml, but when restarting the WiFi connection, the *.xml file gets set to default. Can someone tell me which file needs to be edited that the MAC Address of the BSSID may get written to the *.xml file, or in which format the change needs to be made so that it won't get set to default? EDIT: I found a configuration documentation which tells about editing a Public String, but I don't know what needs to be edited and how. Thanks in advance.

So I bought new Nexus 5x with android 6.0 and everything worked fine, but when I updated to 7.1.2 suddenly wifi stoped working. (It seeks for wifi networks forever). When I go to settings I can see MAC adress which is default one 02:00:00:00:00:00. I've noticed that its common problem for phone like Nexus 5, 5x 6p and Pixels but all solutions I could find just failed. **What i have tried:** first simplest solutions they gave like pulling off SIM card, turning off phone, charging battery to 100%. - Failed Then i was trying to install other versions of Nougath 7, 7.1 , 7.1.2. Switching back to Android 6 makes wifi running again. Some people said that changing MAC adress resolved issue, so firstly I have rooted my phone. Then I have tried to use some external programs for changing MAC but they didint worked. **Problem** I am trying to change MAC manualy. I did it few times on other linux/windows machines with no issue. when i check for avalible network interfaces throught *ifconfig* it outputs bullhead:/ $ ifconfig rmnet_ipa0 Link encap:UNSPEC UP RUNNING MTU:2000 Metric:1 RX packets:843 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:1129 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:563887 TX bytes:210944 dummy0 Link encap:UNSPEC inet6 addr: fe80::78e6:16ff:fe96:3cf7/64 Scope: Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING NOARP MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:3 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:0 TX bytes:210 rmnet_data0 Link encap:UNSPEC inet addr:10.156.9.217 Mask:255.255.255.252 inet6 addr: fe80::53e3:f4d7:6ca9:be5e/64 Scope: Link UP RUNNING MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:843 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:1129 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:568878 TX bytes:210944 lo Link encap:UNSPEC inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope: Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:65536 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:0 TX bytes:0 there is no *eth0* interface nor *wlan0*. All of those interfaces does not have mac assigned. As I have tested *rmnet_ipa0* and *rmnet_data0* are probably for mobile connection (ifconfig (rm..) down makes mobile connection off. So my question is how do I find network interface for wifi so I can try digging in it. Thanks!

I need to be assigned always the same IP address when I connect through Android Wi-Fi hotspot, but such technicality is not configurable via Android GUI. Is there a way I could configure Android hotspot to assign connected device always the same IP address from its DHCP pool (usually based on MAC address of the device)? Most Android hotspots have 192.168.43.0/24 IP range with the hotspot having 192.168.43.1, so I would like my device to be assigned always for example 192.168.43.119. Setting the address on the client is NOT an option as it could be in conflict with IP address assigned to another device connecting through the hotspot.

I got banned from a couple of websites like Reddit, and my idea is to use a VPN to hide my IP and then factory reset my Android device so that the website can't recognise the device. After looking online, there seem to be mixed opinions about whether factory resetting a device actually makes it look like a new device. When you factory reset, does the MAC address or the serial number of the device change? And otherwise, are websites able to detect this information anyway? I guess a website can still see details of the device such as the OS it's using and its hardware specs, in any case, so even with a factory reset they'd still be able to see that particular information, wouldn't they?

The WLAN MAC address usually looks like 00:08:22:xx:xx:xx. The second part is random. In the beginning, it was funny, but now I want to stop it. I read the MAC address from Settings > About the phone > Status. There is no spoofing software on it. It seems that this is a normal reaction of hackers in China, they do not like constant MAC addresses. Do you know if there is any secret setting there I could take a look at?

[Here](https://source.android.com/devices/tech/connect/wifi-mac-randomization) is the MAC Randomization described and stated: > Note: Randomized MAC addresses are generated per SSID and are persistent. I can confirm after deleting the SSID, rebooting, and connecting again, the same random MAC is used as before. However, if you reset the device to factory defaults and connect to the same SSID, the device connects with another random MAC address. So how can you trigger this behavior without doing a factory reset?

Sometimes I want to use a certain hotspot providing free 1-hour Wi-Fi multiple times, but the provider remembers the MAC address of my smartphone. I enabled the developer setting "Wi-Fi non-persistent MAC randomization" and enabled the advanced connection option "Use randomized MAC". However, no matter how many times I click "Forget" on the connection next time the phone assigns the same MAC address. So currently I can only connect two times: with the "randomized" address and then switch to the physical address. The phone is Pixel 3 XL, Android 12

My old phone is running Android 10. I wanted to install Android 14 beta on it. Bootloader is locked. From what I know, unlocking bootloader would reset the device. Therefore Wifi passwords are gone. This is ok as I know them. The problem is my router admin has setup something so when using randomized MAC address it doesn't connect. But fron what I Googled, it seems MAC address is hardware based so resetting phone wouldn't change it. So, my question is, does MAC address reset in unlocking bootloader or flashing GSI make me unable to access the network? If possible, please actually try because I don't want to mess up I have no experience in this area.

Get one static MAC address for Doodgee N30

**tl;dr** How to force Doodgee N301 (or any other device with Android 10) to use single, static MAC address, if _[Use static IP](https://android.stackexchange.com/a/4948/20449)_ checkbox is not available in _Wi-Fi Settings_? ---- To allow my Doodgee N30 to access my home Wi-Fi, I must add its MAC address to the router settings (I have MAC filtering enabled and I am _not_ going to change this). The problem is that, when I type Mac into Settings' search box, I see **two** different places with MAC address: 1. _MAC address_ in ⚙ → _Network & internet_ → _Wi-Fi_ → _Wi-Fi preferences_: Keeps changing all the time. 2. _Wi-Fi MAC address_ in ⚙ → _About phone_: Always the same. What I learnt so far: 1. First one looks like an _Use random MAC address_ feature enabled by default, but I don't know how to disable it; there is no _Use static IP_ checkbox below. 2. Second MAC address is... wrong. I don't know, what it actually is, but adding to router does nothing (i.e. does not enable phone to get access to my home network). Is there anything I can do to force this phone to use one, static IP address? Or the only option is to replace it with any other model that has _Use static IP_ checkbox? 1 This is about Doodgee N30, a rather niche phone, but probably fits to many devices with Android 10 that faces the same problem, i.e. no _[Use static IP](https://android.stackexchange.com/a/4948/20449)_ checkbox.

I vaguely remember a comment on the Stack Exchange network saying that some Android devices have no permanent hardware MAC address added at the factory or later on. The comment mentioned that [U-Boot](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Das_U-Boot) makes a permanent unchangeable hardware address unnecessary. Are there Android devices that ship with no permanent hardware MAC address in EEPROM, flash storage, or elsewhere? Please mind that this question is not about MAC address randomization.

Trying to set up a new Moto-G Stylus with Android 11 on an internal wifi network with mac authentication and a hidden ssid. To provide the expected mac, I selected "Use device MAC" (which is correctly displayed in the connection setup), but the phone continues to send random values. No problem connecting when mac authentication was temporarily disabled on the AP. Repeated forget/re-entering the AP info and resets of the Android networking haven't changed the random behavior. Seems like a bug where the "Use device MAC" is simply being ignored. The phone will be useless without a fix and I can't think of anything else to try. Any suggestions or workarounds would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Tom

On Android 11, MAC address randomizations works fine when connecting the phone as a client to a WiFi network. However, I'm looking for a solution to randomize (or specify) the MAC address when sharing the internet connections to others using a WiFi hotspot. For testing purposes, I use a OnePlus 5T with LineageOS dumpling (Android 11) which is rooted with Magisk. I've tried setting the MAC address as I would in a normal Linux environment with ip link set dev wlan1 address XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX. This does not work, however. ip a shows the custom MAC, but capturing the beacon frames emitted by the hotspot feature, the original MAC is still the source.
