I was using VOLTE services (from reliance jio in India) seamlessly since November 2016, but since June 2017 it suddenlt stopped working. I get an error "Unable to place call. Please try another method" while trying to make a call. I am able to access the internet and make/recieve calls from the Jio 4G Voice app.
**UPDATES:**
* I have enabled "enhanced 4G LTE mode"
* Did a factory reset
* My jio connection is on and working. Also, I can place/receive calls from the
Jio4GVioce
app which means the service is working fine.

My Phone is a Moto g7 Play.
My provider is Koodo (a brand of the Canadian Telus), I am dialing from Canada.
My account includes the following feature:
> **Unlimited Long Distance Pack**
>
> Get unlimited long distance calling to 27 countries including the **US**, China, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, Bangladesh, and the UK from anywhere in Canada.
When I dial a US number, the call goes through, but there is no sound on my end. I don't hear the ringing tones, the other party, nothing; though once the call connects the other party hears me.
Accepting calls (from Canada or the US) works fine. Dialing Canadian numbers works fine. Dialing UK numbers works fine. Dialing a number in a country not in the "Unlimited Long Distance Pack" works fine. Dialing a US toll-free (1-800, 1-888, etc.) number appears to work - I don't hear any ringing tones, but I do hear the message from the other side of the line.
It seems that only dialing US non-toll-free numbers has this issue.
But here's the kicker: if I put my SIM in a different phone, it works without an issue.
What can cause this strange behaviour?
----------
**Edit:**
Turning VoLTE off solved the issue. Then I tried WiFi calling, and it exhibited the same issue.
So it looks like a VoIP issue (as @Robert suggested in the comments).
I now have a workaround, except that I cannot use it when I don't have 3G connectivity.
The question is whether it can be solved in a better way, either on my end or by the provider.
----------
**Edit 2:**
I had a chat with Telus tech support.
Apparently it is a known problem that affects several phone models on their network.
There’s a workaround: pausing and resuming the call restores the sound (for that call).
They opened a ticket for me too, so maybe a permanent solution will be found.

It is a refurbished Yureka Note.
I added a newly activated sim in it. It's sending and receiving text messages. After saving the gprs/mms settings sent by mobile operator, I am able to use internet (which is pretty fast) as well.
However, despite trying variety of things, I am unable to make or receive calls on it. When I tried calling it from another number it says: outside network coverage.
Given that signal is full, my guess is that this has something to do with no VoLTE support in this phone.
I tried many options from *#*#4636#*#* also. If I select WCDMA/GSM only then there is no signal. When I use LTE only, there is signal but calling *to* it says Line Busy.
Is there any way to make calling work on this device with this sim?

Any answers?

I recently upgraded (?) from a Galaxy S8 to an S23+.
On the S8, I could use the hotspot and receive a call at the same time, without any interruption. However, if I receive a call on the S23+, it instantly kills the hotspot so I can no longer use my computer when on the call. Very frustrating.
I tried asking the EE shop to resolve the problem, plus technical support twice. No one had heard of this problem, they say!
I Googled the problem and learnt about VoLTE, which I understand prevented this problem on the S8 so that 3G calls used the 4G connection and did not kill my hotspot. Clearly, this does not do the same thing on the S23+.
I have tried doing 'network resets' and that doesn't work.
I have tried only allowing 4G (in Settings/Mobile Networks) in the hope that VoLTE will work that way. It doesn't!
Surely someone else out there has encountered this problem, and hopefully, has a solution?
Please help! Thanks

If I select 4G I can disable it. That's what's working for me now. But then I can't use 5G connectivity.

What are the factors affecting the ability to enable/disable VoLTE?

In response to this [zero-day vulnerabilities for certain Exynos chipsets](https://9to5google.com/2023/03/16/google-exynos-modem-vulnerabilities/) , I tried to turn off VoLTE on Samsung Galaxy S9 running Android 10 (build number QP1A.190711.020.G960USQU9FVB2) but couldn't find the setting under Connections -> Mobile Networks. This phone runs on the USA AT&T network. (Thanks for the tip that G960U doesn't use Exynos; even in G960F which does use it, the model is not affected.)
But I did find the setting to turn it off in another Samsung Galaxy phone, an A20 running Android 11 that runs on the BoostMobile network (which I believe uses the AT&T network as an MVNO). Again, although this phone [does use Exynos 7884](https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_a20-9640.php) it may not be vulnerable, going by the [list of chipsets provided by Samsung](https://semiconductor.samsung.com/support/quality-support/product-security-updates/) .
**My question**: What are the factors affecting the ability to enable/disable VoLTE? Is it based on the OS version, the chipset, the provider, or the location (dynamically, based on the presence of LTE there)? It seems that [for some MVNOs it cannot be turned off](https://www.androidcentral.com/volte) ?
Another way to pose the question is in terms of technology. In areas where 4G is the only network (since [both AT&T and Verizon would have turned off their 2G and 3G networks by now](https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/plan-ahead-phase-out-3g-cellular-networks-and-service)) , **do ALL voice calls over 4G network are necessarily voice over IP**? If not, does turning off VoLTE means simply that you cannot use data while making calls?

I had recently had a hand on my friend's Moto X Force 1580. The phone works on Android 7.0. I went through the web and found out some guys claiming to make Moto X Style to work on VoLTE. I followed the same procedure but had no luck. Following is the procedure that I went through.
1) Dial
*#*#4636#*#*
2) A hidden menu would start, select "Phone Information"
3) In this window, there is a switch that says "VoLTE provisioned". This by default is off, turn this on
4) Restart the phone.
I tried this number of times, but it turns back off every time.
Can anyone help?

I was trying to use VoLTE in my phone but eventually landed up with result:
1. CyanogenOS can run VoLTE based SIM card

Tried
1. Setting LTE Only option in

But nothing worked in CyanogenMod.
Does any one have idea how to use both VoLTE and CyanogenMOD both?
Currently my phone's CyanogenOS is allowing me to keep only one at a time :)
But I want to use cyanogenMod as it is marshmallow and nightly build updates are released.

Bluetooth Headset does not work with VoLTE

I have a strange situation where my Bluetooth headset does not work for (most) VoLTE calls. More specifically, I can perfectly hear the other end, while they are unable to hear me.
Is there a way to find out why? And how can I mitigate it?
Details
-------
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T with LineageOS 17.1 (build from 12. July 2021)
- AfterShokz Trekz Titanium Bluetooth headset
- Using the German carrier O2.
What I know so far
------------------
Headset works perfectly fine for music, non-VoLTE calls, audio recording apps, WhatsApp voice messages, etc.
- If I switch the audio to phone or speaker during the call, everything works as expected. If I change it back to the headset the other party no longer hears me. I can switch back and forth multiple times with the same results.
- If I disable VoLTE calls the headset works fine.
- The problem does not occur on all VoLTE calls, but on most. It seems to be consistent with the opposing party, i.e., happens all the time with caller A, happens never with caller B.
- Most tests done in a zone with excellent LTE+ coverage (full bars and I can even see the antenna tower). The problem seems to be independent of the LTE tower or city I am in.
- When on VoLTE calls, the audio quality is definetley better.
Ideas I had
-----------
My prime suspect is "audio codecs".
When I connect this headset to Windows, it appears as two devices: "hands free audio" and "stereo headset". And only the "hands free audio" one is able to also record sound. When I switch the output to "headset" the audio quality is worse. Also, when I am using the headset's microphone it can not playback music over the "stereo headset" device.
My guess is, that there is some kind of "high quality" audio mode and when on VoLTE calls, a better audio codec is used and the phone wants to also use this for the headset. The headset accepts, but is unable to do both (high quality audio and microphone usage) at the same time.
Is there a way to check which audio codecs are used? Maybe via adb?
I could change the bluetooth codec in the developer settings, but the list is huge.
Can I somehow determine which codecs are supported by the headset?

Is it possible that different countries use different VoLTE standards and my phone might not support au VoLTE?
