I extract splash.img from /dev/block/by-name/splash with the following command: dd if=/dev/block/by-name/splash of=/mnt/sdcard/ But can't get the image out of splash.img. I use the following commands to get images out: ffmpeg -hide_banner -f rawvideo -vcodec rawvideo -pix_fmt rgb24 -s 1280x800 -i splash.img -vframes 1 -y output_splash.png and ffmpeg -hide_banner -f rawvideo -vcodec rawvideo -pix_fmt rgb565 -s 1280x800 -i splash.img -vframes 1 -y output_splash.png And other commands that I found on the internet. But in all cases, the output image is wrong. I want to get the image out to check whether the extracted partition is correct or not. However, a complete guide to changing the splash image is accepted.

Where is Android boot animation saved?
When you start an Android device, there is an animation showed, usually "Android", but sometimes the manufacturer's logo. Where is this animation stored? I have looked in the `boot.img`, but can't see it there.

I was recently thinking about getting a custom boot animation for my phone, so I installed a root browser and looked for /system/media/ but it wasn't there. I also tried the file manager built into TWRP, but I couldn't find it there either. When I tried to use the "Boot Animations for Superuser" app, it ran into an error trying to backup the existing boot animation. If the /system/media/ folder is missing, how am I still getting the default boot animation that comes with Evolution X? Anyways, I just need help on how to replace the boot animation.

Can anyone help me with how to change the boot screen and shutdown screen on my Lenovo Tab M10 FHD Plus? It seems to me that I cannot change the files in the system. It won't let me edit them or replace them etc. I've tried for hours with this and got nowhere. I tried changing files in system files but they're locked up and can't be edited or overwritten, etc. I tried an app that's meant to write over them for you with new animation files for start-up and shutdown, but that won't do the trick either. Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a U.S. Sprint LG G3 and I've been trying to make a custom boot & shutdown animation for it, but I'm having quite the trouble. I have no problem getting boot animations I download from here to work. I was also able to use this person's site to turn the vertical octopus gif in that thread into a boot animation. Phone is rooted only, no custom rom; no problems placing the files and setting permissions correctly. But I'm not having any luck with this gif: Image That site has a 3MB file limit, so I'm trying to create the images and bootanimation.zip myself. I've tried splitting the frames out with both Irfanview & ImageMagick. Then resizing from 480x480 to both 960x960 and 1440x1440 - then expanding the canvas to 1440x2560 and filling the new background in with black. Again, I've performed these manipulations with both IrfanView & ImageMagick. I've tried jpg's and png's with varying levels of image compression as well as both 24 and 32 bit png's. In the desc.txt file I've tried 30, 45, and 60 frames per second. For the part line I've tried: * p 1 0 part0 * p 0 0 part0 * c 1 0 part0 * p 1 0 part0 (repeat this line x10) And the zip I create uses Store compression (no compression), created with WinRAR. No matter what I've tried, the animation never displays, just black screen. I've tried connecting with adb and running the bootanimation command. When I have a working boot animation that I've downloaded, the command echos the string bootanimation at the prompt, and my phone screen flashes black for a split second. When I try the command with my custom animation in place, nothing is echoed at the prompt - no error messages or anything - and nothing happens on the phone. Here's a dropbox folder with a few versions I've tried - jpgs, larger png's, and smaller png's, with different variations on the desc.txt file. None of them will display. Maybe I'm missing something simple, or maybe there's some problem with the images I'm creating..

From what I've seen the bootanimation.zip is in system/media. Which is where mine got installed so I placed the right permissions for it and rebooted my phone but my provider's animation keeps playing. So I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if it is located somewhere else? My phone model is SMG935.

I am also able to adjust screen dimensions and resolution using adb shell wm. Now, the only thing I need to really do is figure out a way to rotate the entire device to actually be permanently in landscape mode so that when it reboots the Android logo and everything is in landscape. Is there any way to do this? My device is rooted already if that helps.

I just need to know where I can find the bootanimation.zip file in Evolution X, and if there are any further steps required to change it other than just backing up the original boot animation and replacing it. Specifics: I'm running the latest official build of Evolution X for zerofltexx (Samsung Galaxy S6) with MagiskRoot and a few Magisk Modules.

Custom Boot animation slows, freezes and crashes phone
I've created a custom boot animation: 1. Create animation with Blender, render all the frames 1080 x 1920, PNG. 2. Convert them to JPG. 3. Store all that into bootanimation.zip (mode: Store), almost 10 MB. 6. Copy it onto the SD card and copy it to /system/media/ with TWRP. When I reboot the phone, it displays the animation okay, but then slows down (still during the first loop), halts, and reboots after a few seconds. Is there anything I've done wrong? The phone is a Fairphone 2, running Fairphone Open with the newest TWRP and encrypted data partition.

first post here... So I'm attempting to utilize a custom shutdown animation on my LG K7 that I use for dev purposes.. Ive made backups of the original shutdownanimation.zip, and using custom pictures (same .png format, resolution, color depth, etc) I've replaced the original picture files within the zip with the new ones. Shutdown only displays a black screen. So I push backup back to phone, displays LG logo again. Deciding to experiment, I took my stock bootanimation.zip, renamed it to shutdownanimation.zip and overwrote the shutdownanimation.zip on my phone. As expected, this gave me the stock boot up animation during shut down. So I decided I would take a copy of the original shutdownanimation.zip file, and simply edit the existing pictures within it using an image editor. I just opened each of the two original picture files within the zip and used a drawing tool to write 'custom' over the lg logo, then overwrote the new picture files back into shutdowanimation.zip and pushed to phone. I though for sure I would see the altered LG logo, but instead I got a black screen. Any ideas? Update: Im wondering if some mechanism is in place to prevent alteration of the bootanimation or shutdown animation? At first I was thinking it was some file format issue, so I took picture #150 from part0 in bootanimation.zip and replaced every odd picture with picture #150... i.e. part0 pic # 101,103,105... = pic #150 So that this way I didn't even alter any images. Upon moving to phone and rebooting, the boot animation ignores part0 completely where I made the changes and only plays part1.

I had previously rooted it and installed a custom ROM called the Google Product Rom along which came a boot animation that flashed the google logo before actually going into the animation. Now I have decided to unroot the phone and flash the stock firmware, I have managed to do everything including getting rid of the boot animation. But when I boot up the phone it still flashes the Google logo before going on to play the Samsung boot animation. How do I get rid of it without having to re-root my phone? If there is no way and I have to root my phone again! How do I achieve this on a rooted device?
