I am trying to connect things to my S4 with a USB OTG cable. Standard devices such as mass storage, keyboard and mouse all work fine. My problem seems to be with vendor class devices. I connected an FTDI USB to UART bridge (TTL-232R-3V3) to a USB OTG cable and installed the FTDI app. I plugged in the OTG cable and the phone reccognised the FTDI chip, launched the app, waited a few seconds and then closed the app again. I got the message: "Prevention Information, An application has been forced to stop for an unauthorized attempt to access system in your device". (Including the grammatical error) I have the same problem with my Arduino Uno using the ArduinoDriod app. I tried both devices on a friend's Huawei p6 and they both worked fine. From what I can tell, this issue is specific to the S4 and seems to be related to the recent update to Samsung Knox. Does anyone know of a work around that doesn't involve rooting the device? I am still in the 14 day trial period of the phone, so I could swap it for a different one. How do I tell if the Galaxy Note 3 or the LG G2 will have the same problem?

I have a USB disk with MP3 music connected. Everytime when the Pumpkin radio has booted, it recognizes the USB disk and starts the preinstalled media player automatically, which starts playing the first song from the disk. This is annoying, and furthermore, I'm not satisfied with this app cause it lacks relevant features. I want that the media player "Phonograph", which I have installed, starts instead. I have asked Pumpkin support, they say it is not possible to change the default media player app. I have looked in the settings "**Apps -> Standard apps**", but there is no setting for the topic "Mediaplayer" available (there is a setting for the default browser and one other topic, only) I tried to disable this default player app (I forgot the name) but not possible, is greyed out. Does anyone have an idea? If possible, without root. Thank you.

Many articles say you just need to plug it and play, but my controller is unresponsive. The light of the center button (the home? button) does not light up. I have tried USB diagnostics and controller "tester" apps which do not detect my controller. My tablet can use a peripheral keyboard plugged by OTG, but a regular USB mouse will not work (won't light up, response etc). Do not hesitate to ask for more information, thanks in advance.

Recently I was looking for android compatible pen tablets. The ones that have android compatibility works just fine, no driver needed. Only the OTG support (which I assume is for it work as a USB host) and Android 6.0+. While to use any pen tablets, I needed to install drivers on desktop. (though it is mostly automatic). Why is this the case, even though Android has [no standards](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/63630/why-are-there-not-generic-phone-os-installers?newreg=4d4b971bb29146af89a0e1b29bedfe4d) , unlike the PC world? I know drivers are needed as interface for any kind of hardware-software interaction, but that didn't happen on android in case of pen tablet. Although, not a lot of external hardware was supported on android, anyway, until recently. (I was not sure where to ask this question as I don't know much about android/drivers/hardware connectivity, and the correct terminologies)

On two other Samsung phones with the same app running, there is no problem, the video is shown. Is it likely to be a hardware fault, or is there some configuration that needs to be adjusted or a certain driver necessary? The tablet is running Android 7.0 and kernel 3.10.84-14953299 dpi@SWDH7017 #1. Thanks

I want to know whether there is a possibility of bricking my phone if I use a USB hub with a power inlet, like this: enter image description here

I want my phone to act as a ethernet capable wifi access point (WAN via ethernet). When I use USB-OTG with an ethernet USB adapter attached to my Galaxy Nexus (non-rooted stock Jelly Bean) I get regular internet access just fine. Only thing I'm wondering about is the fact that 3G is shown in the status bar although mobile data connection is disabled. The connection goes over ethernet. My Problem appears when I want to share this connection via wifi (hotspot). The hotspot is enabled and the other device (or whatever) is connected but it doesn´t get internet access... Is this a known problem? Any ideas how to get this working? ***Edit:*** It's not about 3G tethering, thats works fine. The problem is tethering while the phone is connected with the LAN over an RJ45-Ethernet adapter.

Using Android 9 running on a Quectel SOC with 1 USB port, I want to share the Android SOCs internet connection via ethernet over USB with another system (embedded Linux), but also allow USB host functions such as communicating with USB storage etc via a USB hub interface. Is this fundamentally possible (even if some AOSP modification is required on my part)? From what I understand, native support is offered for the Android SOC to provide ethernet over USB as a USB device. What I want to achieve is provide ethernet over USB (and provide internet connection to peripherals) as a USB host. Is this support natively provided?

Due to my profession I have to connect to wired-only LAN-attached devices (like managed switches, routers set-top-boxes, etc.) frequently to access their configuration interfaces via Telnet/SSH/HTTP. I am totally tired of carrying a bag with a laptop with me wherever I go. Now I am planning to buy an Android smartphone and feel like I'd like it to be Sony Ericsson Xperia Active which is pretty tough (I need it very much as my phones fall from my hands/table/pocket hundreds times a year), reasonably robust and stylish. It would simplify my life significantly if I could connect it to wired Ethernet networks. Is this possible? I don't mind using a hack or a custom firmware like Cyanogen Mod. I've already got a USB NIC based on ASIX AX88772 chip (which is detected by Ubuntu out of the box and, AFAIK, is also compatible with XBox, PS3 and Apple Macs).

Please suggest and guide me on how to do this, with download links to ROM, firmware, etc. I found a software from Google Play and it is recognising the BT USB 2.0, but it is not connecting to the tablet I have run the USB host diagnostics; everything is showing "yes". The BT Dongle is recognised by USB host controller version 0.44 from Google Play Store. It is showing as below: > under info: s3c usb host driver not found ! Root hub present, usb host > mode is active > > under usb: 2-1 0179:0bda Realtek 802.11n NIC > > 1-1 0001:0a12 Bluetooth v 2.0 Bluetooth v 2.0 dongle As per your doubt, BT dongle is not recognised by "Android". This BT dongle, when plugged to Windows XP computer, it is recognised by computer.

How does MHL work?

I've done (quite) some googling, but I still don't get it. You need an MHL converter, or adapter, or something. On one end of the adapter, all resources say, there is a "standard micro-USB" port, and on the other a "standard HDMI port". If they are all so standard, what's the fuzz about 5-pins vs. 11-pins? The HDMI port must be standard for all displays to work with it I guess, so it must be something on the (apparently not so standard) micro-USB side in the phone. Looking in my phone, I can only see a 4-pins female micro-USB connector. Or are these 11 pins (I have a Galaxy Note II) buried somewhere deeper inside? Secondly, there is often talk about this "switch" that's thrown as soon as an MHL adapter is connected. USB-OTG is disabled and it becomes a display input/output port only (input for the remote control, if available). I guess that means it's not possible to connect it through a USB hub to the phone? I need a bluetooth mouse and keyboard instead of a USB mouse and keyboard if I want to do this? Or is this only applicable for the 5-pins MHL devices, and is the point of the 11-pins one that I can connect my USB hub to the micro-USB port on the adapter? Thirdly, I've also seen USB 2.0 to HDMI converters. They're twice as expensive as MHL, but they have a normal USB connection and output HDMI, so that would fit directly in my USB hub. (MHL would also fit through a microUSB->USB converter, but it seems there is something special about the micro-USB end that I don't get.) The question is whether my phone (a Galaxy Note II) has drivers for that kind of hardware, and whether the hub is fast enough. Any ideas? Lastly, if anyone knows this, I'm curious about how this works on the inside. The graphics chip of the phone sends the video-out to its micro-USB port, just like it would with HDMI, or does it have some custom protocol that the MHL adapter then converts to HDMI? What about HDCP, how can you prevent someone from reading the output stream if every TV in the world can decrypt it already? Or is it like SSL a way to setup a secure connection to the TV so that others can't read your data stream if they were to capture it?
