I am running Android 11 on a Realme 8 5G phone. I would like Google Assistant to answer basic questions about people's age and birth dates, including my own. I don't understand why it doesn't do this. When more than one user is present on the phone, it should recognize the person speaking on the basis of the voice being used, and answer the question (even providing more than one answer if it cannot disambiguate between voices). Questions such as: "What is my age?" "When is my birthday/birth date"? "How old is X?" (it should retrieve this information from the Contacts app). "When is X's birthday/birth date?" It is not uncommon for people who get older or develop some learning disability or dementia or other mind problem or who are simply lazy or forgetful to not be able to subtract the date of birth from the current date to compute their age. The same goes for other people's data. A feature was introduced at some point where you could define kinship in the Contrats app and then just say "call mom/mum". This is also an Accessibility feature. But it would be just as useful if Google Assistant could answer "What is mom's/mum's age?". Why is this important accessibility feature missing from Google Assistant? When will it be added? Is anyone willing to add it? It would be highly appreciated. (Here are some screenshots that display for Google Assistant is currently failing when I address the issue in Italian): Assistant 1 Assistant 2 Assistant 3 UPDATE; Perhaps this is just a flaw of Google Assistant in Italian. Perhaps, it does not work very well in other languages. Ad a matter of fact, it does not understand correctly non English names. For instance, when I ask Google Assistant, how old is Imma Bonuomo, an Italian name for one of my contacts, Google Assistant does not understand the mixed English and Italian speech (wouldn't it make sense that it did, looking in my contacts first, and, only then, searching on the web? It could even ask me "sounds I look in your contacts?",0 if it was unsure. Or alternatively, it could ask, back, "Search from contacts, or search from the web?", (not sure if Google Assistant has access to any other data sets, then these two places. Perhaps other apps may make data available though a content provider. Or, perhaps, it could ask, back, "Imma Bonuomo found in contacts. Use this result?" and you could specify back, "search the web", if that is not what you wanted. A list of other places to retrieve the data associated with or computed from the name, could be specified in the horizontal scrollable area of Google Assistant. In any case, Google Assistant hears "Emma Barnett" instead of "Imma Bonuomo", and fails (with the result given in the image below). Indeed, it gives me this result, when I run such search: wrong person result from Google Assistant Why is Google Assistant giving me this wrong result? Thank you for any contributed improvements to Google Assistant. And thank you for your answers. UPDATE: I had placed the birth date in the notes, rather than in a separate field (due to a complication where two birth dates were existing separately for this person (the real birth date, and the one recorded at the registry office. Google Assistant was unable to search the notes field for this contract and find the birth date using DeepL (or something similar). Thanks. In any case, after reinserting the contact's information in the birthday field instead of in the notes field, the Italian counterpart answers properly to "quando è nata Imma" and "quanti anni ha Imma" (but the English counterpart still mishears). But when asking "how old am I?" In English, it works, but in Italian, "quanti anni ho io", which, is the same thing, doesn't work. Thanks you for your contributed improvements. Thank you for your answers. Thanks.

Google Assistant crashes the moment I open the app. Due to this. I'm unable to invoke my Assistant even though having setup all it's settings such as turning it On, setting up 'Hey Google' and training the voice recognition model. Similarly, The Google App crashes the moment I try voice search.(Open 'Google' App, click on the 'Mic' icon on the search bar for voice input to search.) I tried few fixes after searching online and troubleshooting guides from google, but nothing seemed to work even after enabling all the options mentioned in those guides. I need this community's help in figuring out what's causing this and fixing it. Can anyone help me on this please? Phone: Oneplus 6. (I've used google assistant a couple of years ago, but never used in the past 2+ yrs. Now that I've got a few smart devices, I want to use it again.) OS: Oxygen OS 9.0.9 Edit: I have tried a fix that I found online, which was clearing the data of 'Google' app and restarting the phone. But the situation ended up being worse than before. Now, when I go to the 'Hey Google & Voice Match' setting, I see 'An Error has occurred. Please try again later.'(Attached an image below). Error at 'Hey Google' settings. Cheers!

I would like to know how to use TalkBack to search for entries by issuing a given partial keyword or regular expression. Perhaps, as an alternative, the user could speak an entry, and, after the text was entered, the user could check the text for correctness, by having it read aloud, letter per letter, or as a whole, and then issue the search. This could be useful in several contexts, for instance, the blind person is coding or using some app with menus or am interface with a list of buttons and wants to get to a given menu entry without remembering its position, without getting confused by listening to other entries, which may make them forget what they're doing. Or they may be going through the chronology of a web browser, and cannot find what they're looking for. It would be nice if there were a way to do this, because it would really help. Thanks.

Using Android 9 on a Pixel 2, I can recreate this problem reliably. Let's say currently it is January 20. I prompt Google Assistant to start making a reminder for a certain date and time, such as: "Remind me on February 8th at 6 pm", to which it replies: "Okay, what's the reminder?" If I then want to the reminder text to say something like: "Appointment tomorrow at noon", Google will interpret that as a new reminder set for January 21 at noon, instead of a reminder on February 8th at 6 pm saying "Appointment tomorrow at noon". This seems like a mistake, especially since Google specifically saved the date and time of the original request and prompted me just for the reminder text. Has anyone found a solution to this? Many thanks.

### Question How to force *Google Voice Recognition* working in offline mode even if an internet connection is available? ### Background I know *Google Voice Recognition* has an offline mode**1**, using "speech recognition packs" one can download.**2** I'm also aware that this offline-mode is limited, compared to what it can do via Internet. Still, being a little paranoid on Google's data collection I rather avoid using its online facilities – and so I currently don't use *Google Voice Search* at all. I'd like to give it a try, though – but always switching to airplane mode for that is not practical. My devices are all rooted, and have the [XPosed Framework](https://android.stackexchange.com/tags/xposed-framework/info) installed. I know about the [GoogleOfflineVoice](http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.germainz.googleofflinevoice) module – but that hasn't been updated since 9/2014 and [is reported to be non-operational with the current *Google Search* app](http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-googleofflinevoice-force-offline-t2634630/page10) (plus it's unclear if the dev will pick up the work; I've just [asked about that](http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-googleofflinevoice-force-offline-t2634630/page10#post66893957) , answer was "Honestly no idea" (dev lacking time)). ### Other benefits It's reported that *Google Voice Search* is much faster in offline mode. So if one doesn't need the "extended capabilities" of its online mode, faster reaction will certainly be welcome – which makes this question interesting not only for "privacy fetishists", "conspiracy theorists" and "paranoid users" :) ### Question (refined): So I'm looking for alternatives: simple settings preferred, [tag:adb] commands definitely accepted, root-solutions are fine. If it requires an app, that app itself should require none or only minimal permissions itself. I'm also open to speech-recognition suggestions not involving *Google Voice Search* as long as they work offline and don't invade privacy**3**. ### Note: I'm mainly interested in giving voice commands and maybe doing some dictation. ### Related information * How to enable offline Speech To Text in Android * How to use speech-to-text offline? ---- **1:** see: How to use speech-to-text offline? **2:** see [Google Voice Search requiring internet access even when offline speech recognition pack is installed](https://android.stackexchange.com/q/130724/16575) **3:** Internet permission just to download voice-packs is OK, as I can block it as soon as the download is completed. Manual download (placing the files on the SD card) preferred :)

[enter image description here enter image description here enter image description here So when I clicked the microphone button on my Gboard, Pixel 2, it used to come up as pictures 1&2. Now, this changed today, when I click the microphone, the keyboard goes away, and screenshot #3 is what comes up. I know that this is extremely similar to https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/224089/is-it-possible-to-trigger-gboards-voice-typing-without-switching-keyboards . I searched for the sound file but couldn't locate it, it may be wrapped up in the apk file. Is there a way to stop this irritating sound? If I install the Xposed Framework, will that help? Edit: Someone has suggested turning the media volume down to zero. This will work, but is not appropriate for me, as I am using the language learning app duolingo while I am using voice typing. So I need the app to send out audio via the media channel, simultaneously with using voice typing. Coming at it from another angle, I have asked if there is an alternative application which meets my requirements. **edit** **Using app settings 1.15, you can mute voice typing by muting the Google app in Marshmallow (and maybe above). However, voice typing now mutes other audio ( regardless of its configuration on app settings) so I asked a question about it here** https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/193881/how-do-i-stop-voice-typing-from-muting-pausing-other-playing-media

I am running Lollipop on the LG G3 and due to a loose connection on the audio jack google voice search gets activated everytime a slight movement of ANY attached cable. Now, I would like to deactivate google voice search completely. My phone is rooted and i am willing to raze any part of the file system to stop this annoying hellfire. It is annoying because I can be on a free-hands call and google voice search asks me over the speakers "In order to do a google voice search please unlock your phone". Additionally, the same physical problem results on the default music player starting to play music. Is there a wat to deactivate the wire control for the music player ?

As shown in the first screenshot, I have enabled all options: All options enabled Annoying Home screen appears after Screenshots: Options enabled / Annoying Box / Homescreen afterwards (click images for larger variants) Now,I lock my phone. I switch on the screen, and then say "OK Google". But then this is what annoys me. I want the home screen to pop up as soon as I have said the command, but instead what comes up is what the second screenshot shows. And then my home screen appears, after the "Listening..." Box, as shown in the third screenshot above. I do NOT want the Google "Listening..." dialog to pop up.I only want the home screen to pop up as soon as I have said the command. I HAVE done a lot of searching... but to no avail. Can anyone solve this? PS: My phone is a Lenovo A6000 with CyanogenMod 12.1.

Even a wrong distance between my mouth and my phone's microphone can cause it to ignore the OK Google command. Is there a way to save many voice model profiles just like you do it with fingerprints? In android 6.1 you can save up to 5 models of your fingerprint, all of them are checked during the fingerprint authorisation. If I could record more than 3 "Ok google" commands during the voice model retraining, I think it would work much better.

I'm looking for an open source way to specify custom voice commands that use the Google voice recognition backend. It has to be open source and work offline. (I already managed to get the Google app which is responsible to voice recognition to work offline, restricted by Xprivacy and AfWall+.) What I need to do is relatively simple. For instance when I say "Turn on light 1" it has to send a simple HTTP request to ’http://192.168.1.5/light/1/on’ , when I say "Temperature to 23 degrees in the living room" it should use the url ’http://192.168.1.5/livingroom/temperature/23’ instead etc. I know there are closed-source apps that can do this (Tasker for instance), but I I'm way too paranoid to install something on my device that needs network/Internet access and is closed-source. So are there any open source apps that could do this?
