Then, this file is to be opened by Emacs. I hit on the Emacs icon and typed C-x C-f, and in the bottom line /storage/emulated/0/WE_test01.txt

The response of Emacs is
> File is not readable
What have I done wrong?

I've tried gsearching and found endless hideously annoying false leads. Half the time a "recommended solution" doesn't do what I'm asking for, in one way or another.
Some of these things expect you to pay... yes, money! And for me ads are not and never will be acceptable, in any circumstances whatsoever.
And many of them don't actually have any way to enable you to open a file, as with a typical computer program: i.e. a "File" menu with "New, Open, Save, Save as", etc. Nor does tapping on an existing downloaded file work: the only offered apps to open an .htm file, for example, are "Chrome" and "HTML viewer" currently. So with a vast number of these apps it appears impossible to actually open an existing file! There may be ways of adding to the number of apps suggested for "open with" a particular file type... but the whole point is that I want to open files with extensions like ".htm" and possibly ".css" and who knows what else. Just let me navigate in the file system and choose my file, For Frederick's Sake.
I finally thought I'd found a solution: "OldSchool Editor". I managed to open an .htm file in it, and even edit and save the text. And then open the tweaked file in a browser app.
But for some reason that app is afflicted with a totally crippling typing latency, making it unusable: in the edit page, with an .htm file of 11kB, I press a key, and then it takes approximately one second before the screen adjusts, sometimes longer.
Another suggestion made is to use Google Docs. But that means interacting with the Cloud, as their docs are then kept there, and you can only edit things while online. I must be able to do stuff while offline. Like Notepad++ on a computer. Even if I tried Google Docs I'd be pretty unlikely to be able to manage the actual text, in the case of an .htm file.
Any solutions to this? It seems quite a basic thing to want to do.
**PS: "this isn't for software recommendations".** I realise there may in theory be a more appropriate forum for this question, indeed.
But firstly I think that in practice that other forum is for computer platforms, not mobiles. I need to tax the brains of none other than **android enthusiasts**.
Secondly, I'm not asking for an app which is comparatively "better" than another. Just ANY app which does this thing I want to do.

I have a text file in a compressed file (RAR/ZIP). On my desktop, I happen to be able to edit it, and then WinRAR or 7-Zip sends a message saying the text file was changed and asking if I want to update it.
The same thing seems impossible to do in Android 8.1.0. I have tried ZArchiver, ZArchiver Pro, RAR from Rarlab, and several text editors, but in the end, the zip file is never updated with the changes I make in the text.
I also tried MiXplorer and MiX Archive (the archive plugin), and although it's a powerful tool, it's not working. When I try to save the text file, it says "Not supported!" regardless of the zip or rar file. I wonder if it's because the archive has a password. It also seems it can't open the zip file directly from the Dropbox app, providing the same "not supported!" error.
Does anyone know a way? Or a way that allows me to set a password on a text file that is cross-platform between Android and Windows? Any hint, or any other tool I could try? In the settings of MiXplorer, it doesn't seem anything could help.

I've looked, and I haven't been able to find either an executable or instructions to compile emacs for Android.
I know CyanogenMod has some Unix commands, but I haven't found a list or whether it includes Emacs. I don't want to flash my phone without knowing.
I've seen [many](https://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/EmacsOnAndroid) pages on running Emacs on "Android" via installing Ubuntu. I don't mean running Emacs on "Android" hardware, I mean running Emacs on the Android operating system.
I'm also aware I can use an app to SSH to a Unix box, and that there are online Emacs emulators. Again, not what I'm looking for.
I'm looking for the standard command-line GNU Emacs, and I'm aware I'll need to use a terminal emulator app to run it, as well as a Bluetooth keyboard to do anything useful. I'm not looking for a GUI app, though that would be better than nothing.
I'll accept either a link to a binary or instructions to compile it.

Recently, I changed my phone to Nokia 6.2 with Android 11 system and I find a new feature that is really user-unfriendly to me. In my old phones when I press and hold on the text in an address bar(or any place where a long line of text is displayed in a single row), I can slide the line of text to find the exact part that I want to edit, but this doesn't work in my new phone, for when I hold on the text now, a magnifying window will appear (as showed in the screenshot below) instead, and I cannot make the texts that's not fit into the screen appear.
This is really annoying. Is there any way to disable this useless magnifying function?

I'm using Android 9 on Cherry Mobile Flare S8 Pro, and it seems I'm unable to paste rich text on an online rich text editor.
For example, I'm copying a header and bold text within rich text format then when I paste it in any Online Rich Text Editor, but it only pastes plain text without the header and bold formatting.
The problem is, this kind of workaround actually works in my Windows 10 laptop but not on my Android 9 smartphone.
I have tried downloading some copy-paste apps in playstore and using them to copy paste the formatted rich text but it doesn't work either and gives the same result.
Is there any way to deal with this without rooting my phone?

Any ideas? I've turned on all the auto-complete settings, but the suggestions are still terrible. I'm using a Nexus One running 2.3.4.

I would like to know how to use TalkBack to search for entries by issuing a given partial keyword or regular expression. Perhaps, as an alternative, the user could speak an entry, and, after the text was entered, the user could check the text for correctness, by having it read aloud, letter per letter, or as a whole, and then issue the search.
This could be useful in several contexts, for instance, the blind person is coding or using some app with menus or am interface with a list of buttons and wants to get to a given menu entry without remembering its position, without getting confused by listening to other entries, which may make them forget what they're doing.
Or they may be going through the chronology of a web browser, and cannot find what they're looking for.
It would be nice if there were a way to do this, because it would really help.
Thanks.

How to read and edit system xml files of android 12+?
On previous android versions, I can easily read and edit system XML files using a text editor but XML files from android 12 cannot be read properly and they looks like random symbols. For example, I pulled `wallpaper_info.xml` from /data partition and text editors can't open the file properly.

Sometimes I want to edit text files on a remote computer (such as linux scripts, websites, etc.) but I only have an Android device at hands (let's say I'm sitting in a train and have nothing better to do with my time).
I could download the files over SSH, edit them, and upload them again, or even edit them on the SSH console, but this is tedious (I mean MORE tedious than it already is to edit text with an handheld device, if that is possible).
Is there a way that I can directly edit the files remotely? I would envision a solution that might, for example, automatically download the file, and upload it back on save.

So I want some kind of solution to take a phone number from my call list, contacts or anywhere else, then transform it in a specific way and then add some digits and symbols in front of the number and a symbol after the number, and then forward the newly created number to the dialer.
For example, I have a phone number in my call list "+37066611111", if I share it as a number in my dialer app (DW contacts and dialer), I get this kind of text:
Contact name:
+37066611111
I want some kind of tool to get this text, drop this part:
Contact name:
+370
Then add additional symbols and digits to the remaining number "66611111", so that the result would look like this:
866622222,789#9#0866611111#
Then pass this newly created number back to the dialer. Is it possible?
I'm using a bootleggers ROM (Android 9 pie) installed on a Motorola Moto E 2015 phone.

I have been trying to change root files in my phone through an app I am developing. The phone I have is a Moto G6, fully rooted. I'm using terminal emulators to run commands on my phone. I've tried "Terminal Emulator for Android" and "Shell Terminal Emulator" apps to try to make my files modifiable.
The commands I've tried to run are as follows:
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
In Terminal Emulator for Android this appears to work because it offers no error message but in Shell Terminal Emulator I'm hit with the following:
"...whatever.../system not user mountable in fstab"
So I went to check if it worked anyway and tried to modify a file in the root browser. The file:
/sys/devices/virtual/android_usb/android0/power/control
The file currently has the permissions set as "rw-r--r--" and filled with the text "auto" and after trying to save the file with the contents "0" instead I'm provided with this big ugly error message:
Error when saving file
=====Description=====
java.io.FileNotFoundException: "...file name..." and then (permission denied)
What I want to know is why I don't have permission to edit these files, afterall my phone is fully rooted and I have granted root access to the text editor.
Any solution or step in the right direction is greatly appreciated.
