I have a Moto G5 Stylus 2023 on Android 14. I **need** to be able to enter a backtick, but every Android keyboard I've tried (Unexpected Keyboard, GBoard, Hacker's Keyboard, MS SwiftKey) I use makes the backtick act as a deadkey. This happens even when I highlight text to be used as a code block (markdown) and use the app's UI to convert it to a code block, it still converts the required backtick(s) to diacritic accents. I connected a physical keyboard (USB via USB2Go cable), and the backtick still acted as a dead key. As this is affecting all keyboards similarly, I'm assuming this is some type of system-wide setting/behavior, but I can't see any setting that would control this. What am I missing here?

TLDR: I need to create a keyboard interface to Android, does this already exist? or am I going about this the wrong way? I'm running tests from my computer that require me to interact with an Android device. What I would like to do is write an application that runs on my testing computer that can talk to my Android devices as a mock keyboard. Right now, my testing methods are: my desktop app runs, returns a string of text, **I type a string of text into the application on an Android device,** Android devices do their thing (posts modified text to cloud datastore), the desktop app gets value from datastore, and repeats. I would really like to take the manual step out of the testing procedure. I had some ideas on how to control the Android device's keyboard using an Arduino with the keyboard library, but I would think I could do this with just a USB between the testing computer and the Android device. I've looked around online, but most forms I'm finding are talking about using an Android as a keyboard for a PC (which is the opposite of what I need).

I wanted to ask if there is a way to use my computer's keyboard to type on my phone while it is plugged into the PC to charge. I was wondering if anyone on here has a setup like this. The end result needs to be: I can connect my phone through a dock or some other USB cable and either switch between Windows on my PC to type on the Android device or find an OTG device capable of charging *and* connecting a keyboard at the same time. This wouldn't be ideal due to limited desktop space. I could connect a separate keyboard with an OTG cable, but this would stop me from charging it while using it. I could also use AutoHotkey or something similar to send keystrokes to the Android device over USB, but I'm not sure how this would affect charging it or transferring files over USB as well. It could probably be done but I don't know where to start. Ideally, this would be the option I'd use.

How do I enter a Unicode character in Gboard by entering, say, the Unicode number for that character? Is there a special Unicode keyboard that works in this way? Today, I wanted to enter a Unicode character found in ncurses, the one for a UL corner (this selection was wrong. But I still wanted to attempt entering the character). Or, perhaps, the lower left. Or the combination of UL and LL characters from ncurses. In these cases, I need to either draw a character, insert it and have it occupy a cursor place. Or, enter it using the Unicode number for that character. But there is no way to do these two things.

It also has a bunch of special characters, but I don't consider those of high priority. I tested [More Physical Keyboard Layouts](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=varzan.extraKeyboardLayouts) , but it doesn't feature Macintosh layouts ([yet](https://github.com/calin-darie/extra-keyboard-layouts/issues/29)) . I also saw the [External Keyboard Helper Pro](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelper) that allows to define a custom layout, but it requires a Google Account to buy it from the Play Store, but I need a solution that works with AOSP. (Free apps on the Play Store are fine, because I can download those anonymously using the Aurora Store.)

IT MIGHT GO ON AND ON FOR VERY LONG WHILE DEPENDING ON HOW LONG IT TOOK BEFORE YOU LOOKED BACK DOWN and noticed what you were typing... So okay, we select this big block of words, then what do we do to get them back into normal/mixed or lower case? Thanks. Currently the only thing I know how to do is just delete the region and start all over again.

Tapping again in the text input shrinks the dropdown to the desired height. Is there a setting to force the second behavior to be the default behavior? **EDIT** I quick-fixed it by passing a random value to attribute name, so that the browser never finds associated values. But it's not a satisfying final solution. **EDIT 2** Reproducible on simple HTML form example https://www.w3schools.com/html/html_forms.asp Samsung Keyboard is the chosen input method. This happens on Edge and Chrome. Tried Gboard, yes it also happens then. I don't know why some entries are remembered and new ones not. Somehow they are remembered.

I'm used to a Compose key on my desktop computer, and having it on Android would be extremely useful. This question seems to have been asked almost a decade ago [here](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/66510/compose-key-on-external-blutooth-connected-keyboard) , but I believe a lot has changed since then, so I hope that now there might be a way.

I realize the 3x4 has a letter mode, a number mode and a symbols mode. I can see the alphabet characters on-screen, but pressing them produces numbers. _This is me typing 'hello' on the keypad, once with XT9 on and again with it off._ enter image description here To get 'h' I would tap the ghi button twice, but it yields '44' instead. I checked there is a language selected for predictive text. I really want to get this working without installing a third-party keyboard, as I did that before and the nature of my device's low internal memory really makes it difficult. There are several sites which have web browser text areas which you can type stuff in. When these sites are visited with Firefox or Chrome, and you want to enter more than 3 lines of text (for instance your text may end up wrapping up and spanning 5, 6, 7, or 8 lines), then it becomes awkward to move to the lines in the middle, since the android placeholders that can be used to select text will scroll up or down too fast to select the middle lines. I would like to know whether there is a workaround for this (personally I would suggest that the text box / text area on such browsers running on Android devices be resizable by dragging the lower-right-hand-side corner of such text area box. Not sure if this is possible at the moment. The best solution I've found for this so far is to try and download the corresponding apps for the websites you need to visit and enter this kind of text in, but this is a non-solution given that some websites will not have corresponding Android apps to be used to enter the given information more conveniently. Anyone know whether Firefox and Chrome plan to support the feature I just mentioned?

When I use Google Voice typing to produce some text, a fair amount of the text becomes underlined (and if you tap the underlined text a drop-down list presents suggestions to correct any errors in the voice recognition). However, this functionality makes it very cumbersome to manually edit the text with the keyboard (I find that I have to first tap the underlined text, then choose delete and rewrite the entire snippet of text again). Moreover I find that most often the suggested corrections are incorrect, so they are not helpful. I'd much rather turn these corrections off if it was possible, and simply edit any errors manually with the keyboard. Can it be done? Thanks.

I'd like to have an app with my custom programmatic text snippets, that would insert them at the cursor in the focused text field, next to other text that I already entered. I'm using both Tasker and Automate, and both can enter text letter-by-letter, or rather keycode-by-keycode—with me translating the letters to keycodes, I guess. Neither of the two can just insert text: instead, Automate can ‘set text’, overriding all text in the field, and IIRC Tasker's docs suggest using some command via adb, that requires root permissions. I wonder: is there perhaps some way to just spill some text into the focused input, at the cursor, without affecting surrounding text? Both apps have the permission to work as accessibility-helping apps. I asked this question in one of Automate's communities, and was [directed towards the docs for ACTION_SET_TEXT](https://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/accessibility/AccessibilityNodeInfo#ACTION_SET_TEXT) , which doesn't have any options to specify the target position for the text, or to keep the text that's already there. I would vaguely hope that accessibility apps can help the user with entering text, among other things, and thus have some means to that end. There's a kind-of-a-workaround with setting the clipboard text and then pasting it, but that's rather dirty since the existing clipboard value is not preserved: I looked into getting the clipboard contents and putting them back after all is done, but this turns out to require a rooted phone again. Plus the solution is generally hacky. Maybe there's some way to get the cursor position in the text field, extract text before and after the cursor, and then use SET_TEXT? I could live with the text formatting being lost, if only that would allow me to enter snippets.
