I’m struggling to find a keyboard app for Android that offers smart punctuation features similar to those available on iOS. Specifically, I’m looking for a keyboard that can automatically use curly quotes (‘’ “”) and other smart punctuation marks. I’ve tried several keyboard apps including Gboard, SwiftKey, and Fleksy, but I haven’t been able to find the exact feature I’m looking for.
Does anyone know of an Android keyboard that supports smart punctuation in the way iOS does? Alternatively, is there a way to enable this feature in any of the major keyboard apps through settings or additional tools?
Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I'm running Android on a mobile device, but I really just use it as a computer. I have a wireless mouse/keyboard that I use to navigate windows, etc. The keyboard works well generally, but I find some features lacking. I really would like to map keypresses to the touch screen input. i.e. I can set W to send touch input from a part of the screen given by the pixel location or some such thing.
I have a background in computer system, so I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. I am willing to root the device, install programs, or build in some additional hardware. I can probably do it from scratch, but I really would like to not waste that much time on it.

How can I close my current app via a keyboard shortcut?
I have an Android phone (Cosmo Communicator) with a keyboard but without function keys. On Windows or Linux, ALT + F4 closes the application (well, window) that is focused. Is there anything similar on Android (9.0 Pie)? I find it hard to believe this is impossible yet I was unable to google it out.

I am using Termius Android app on my phone to SSH connect my server. When I get in a screen session, it can't input Ctrl+A+D to leave this session, only Ctrl + one key can be input.
Also, my program in this session keeps running, so I can’t run any command unless using Ctrl+C to stop my program, but that is so stupid for just leaving a session!
Does anyone meet the same problem as me? It's much appreciated if anyone knows a solution.
Expected result:

I am using Android 11 (Build Number RP1A.201005.004.A1) on a Google Pixel 2 XL with an external BlueTooth keyboard (Logitech K480).
In my normal typing on a desktop or a laptop, I am very used to typing spaces with the Shift key depressed (habit) and it correctly registers as a normal Space key in those environments, but on Android, it triggers a change in language which I have to then stop and change back, and then continue typing.
Obviously, one solution is for me to try and change 20 years of typing muscle memory, but I would also like to know how I can disable this keyboard shortcut, so that I can have a similar typing experience to what I would have on laptop or desktop.
Thanks.

Update (3rd January 2021)
---
I checked to see if the answers to the question linked in the comments by @Robert solved my issue or not.
As per the suggestions in the linked question, I switched off the [Google Indic keyboard](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.inputmethod.hindi) which is what was apparently providing the Shift + Space keyboard shortcut, with no way to change this mapping. Here is a screenshot of all the settings in the Google Indic keyboard app, having cycled through all of which, I was unable to locate a setting for changing keyboard shortcuts:
" class="img-fluid rounded" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto; margin: 10px 0;" loading="lazy">
Anyway, reverting to Gboard, which is the main suggestion in the linked question (albeit for Samsung phones) does not resolve my issue:
1. Firstly, there now appears to be no external keyboard shortcut to switch between languages. I tried several combinations after having added a couple of languages to Gboard.
2. Secondly, and more importantly, Shift + Space now *does nothing*. Which means that my original intent of getting Shift + Space to emulate a Space keypress is not actually solved.
In fact, while this query was for my Pixel 2 XL, tinkering around with my Samsung Note 10+, I discovered that the Samsung keyboard actually provides exactly this feature of being able to switch off the Shift + Space external keyboard shortcut to switch languages, which is exactly what I am looking for in Gboard! See the screenshot below (Shift + Space on my Note 10+ now simply enters a Space while typing, exactly as desired):
" class="img-fluid rounded" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto; margin: 10px 0;" loading="lazy">
**I am really hoping that someone can help me understand how I can get Shift + Space to be just a plain Space keypress on Android using an external keyboard.**

I was typing like I always do using a USB keyboard with External Keyboard Helper Pro bought from Google Play. I usually type in Evernote. In a moment, I'm kind pressing more than one key a the same time - probably a Fn, Ctrl or Alt and other. I have no idea what I pressed. But since then, I *can't* type anything because the keys open other apps. If I press "e" in the keyboard, the e-mail on my tablet open, and if I press other key, other app open.
I tried to figure it out, search in the settings from my tablet and in the settings of EKH, but I don't have any shortcuts configured. I'm thinking that I press some kind of shortcut that activated other shortcuts, but I don't know how to go back to what it's like before.
How to fix/revert this?

Got an Android head unit with no physical buttons (has 1 tiny reset hole only). I was playing around with developer settings and enabled Simulate Secondary Displays with 4K option. Unfortunately this lead to the simulated display overlay taking over the entire screen with no way to get rid of it as the touchscreen is not unresponsive over the overlay. As a note, USB debugging mode was not enabled on the headunit prior to this happening.
I've hooked up a USB keyboard and have managed to get to the app drawer but can't seem to find a way to scroll through and select the "settings" app. Pressing 'TAB' or the arrow keys don't seem to be able to cycle through the app drawer.
If anyone could help with any of the 3 solutions, I would be grateful:
1. How to navigate through app drawer to get to "settings" app on android via USB keyboard?
2. How to bring up the android search bar with the keyboard only (that way I can search for "settings")
3. How to boot up android headunit in safe mode (tried it on my mobile phone and was able to disable simulated display once in safe mode). However my headunit has no physical buttons.
Thanks
this is as far as I can get with keyboard - can't seem to browse the apps inside the app drawer

This question seems to have been asked almost a decade ago [here](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/66510/compose-key-on-external-blutooth-connected-keyboard) , but I believe a lot has changed since then, so I hope that now there might be a way.

With aid from Android Enthusiasts and Reddit , I was able to bring my Microsoft Word Autocorrect shortcuts from my Windows 10 desktop into my Gboard personal dictionary on Android.
I see, now, that when I enter one of those shortcuts using Gboard's onscreen (virtual) keyboard in Android, that shortcut's full expansion is offered at the center of the top bar in the Gboard keyboard. For example, if I type my initials into the onscreen keyboard, my full name appears in that top bar. Then I can just tap that suggestion to enter it into my document.
Unfortunately, this doesn't work when I enter the shortcut using a Bluetooth (physical) keyboard. The shortcut appears onscreen, but Gboard's top bar does not change accordingly. The explanation is presumably that Gboard is designed to recognize only its own (virtual) keyboard.
My question: can Gboard or some other app be persuaded to expand shortcuts entered via physical keyboard? In Word on the PC desktop, the expansion occurs as soon as the user enters a spacebar, punctuation, or Enter keys following the shortcut.

I'm using gboard from Google and I absolutely love it. I just have two questions about it because I come from using Swype which has a lot of nice and useful features to quickly which i miss heavily:
1. Is it somehow possible to easily create compound words like it is in swipe? In the German language we often concanate words together. Right now, I have to insert two Words, and afterwards remove the space in between and change capitalisation. It's cumbersome
2. Is it possible to select a whole word using some shortcut on the keyboard? Currently, to change the capitalisation of a word or to remove some word, I need to select the whole word before pressing backspace or shift keys. But when I click into the word only the cursor is placed in between. So i always need to long press it and to select the whole word from the os context menu... it's cumbersome especially for the case of deleting a wrongly written word afterward.
Thanks a lot guys

On Gboard, when I long-press the "a" character, for example, I can see some other "a" characters pop up which have different marks or diacritics on them. By using long-press, I am able to easily type the ā and Ā characters, but we don't have such an option for "h" character for instance, as I would like to similarly type the ḥ and Ḥ characters. And similarly, I would like to be able to type some other Unicode characters like ʿ by long-pressing the ' key. These characters are accepted in standard academic Arabic romanizations and copy-pasting these Unicode characters from other applications is very inconvenient.
- Is it possible to be able to add my own characters to the long-press of the current characters on Gboard?
- Or is it possible to create my own keyboard layout and add that to Gboard (like we add new languages and each language has its own key-set)?
- If not, is there a way to hack-edit the language source file (when we download a language in Gboard) and assign my custom keys to them, so that when that language is set in the Gboard, it has my custom keys set in it?
- Or if it is not possible on Gboard, then is there any other keyboard app that allows us to customize its keys like this?
- If it is not possible on Gboard, how to suggest a custom-long-press-key-setting feature to the Gboard team?
Thanks.
