As the title says: How can I type the tick character (
´
) in usual Android devices (Android 13)? I haven't found a keyboard app yet that provides this character.
In Western Europe, the tick character character is not that unusual, and I have a few passwords that contain it. Changing those passwords at the respective servers would require them to be changed on multiple other client devices, too, which is not possible. So I have to enter them on every Android device that should be used to access those servers.
On the Android device, I could solve the problem by copying that character from a text in the browser into the clipboard and pasting it into the password text box from there. But this procedure is error prone and extremely annoying.
I am convinced that Android (as every other serious O/S) lets us enter not only this specific character, but Unicode characters in general. It's just that I am not able to find out how.

I'm using a Bluetooth keyboard KW6000-BT with a website at https://www.v7world.com . I want to enter the | or ¦ symbol on a Bluetooth keyboard. The keyboard does not have a | but has a ¦ symbol on it. The keyboard has a FN key and a Ctrl key as well as a Windows key, but no AltGr. But no combination of keys allows the ¦ symbol to be entered (i.e. displayed).
I've tried using the Android soft keyboard but I see no | or ¦ symbol on it. The keyboard is connected to an Android phone which has the Termux app installed but the app does not seem to have the | or ¦ symbol available.
I'm happy to enter either variant of the pipe symbol. Settings -> System shows GBoard: it is installed on both phones and tablets as an app according to Play Store. I don't see either pipe symbol on the soft keyboard's 2nd screen: 2nd screen just has a few icons (e.g. palette, clipboard) in addition to numbers & punctuation symbols. OS configured for UK according to Settings -> System. I have tried both FN and Alt keys in conjunction with the key showing 3 characters but neither gives the back quote.
How do I enter the | or ¦ symbol?

**How can I delete a file with special characters from an un-rooted Android device?**
I used a web site to download a YouTube video to my mobile phone. The video name contained special characters (emoticons and alike) and the Android browser downloaded the file right away, so I could not rename it.
Now I'm stuck with a file that I cannot delete with the stock file manager of my phone. It is a Wiko device with some shady file manager app. I also tried AndroZip, which is usually more reliable.
However, the file has a size of 0 bytes and I can neither delete, nor rename or move it. I do not get any error message, simply nothing happens. In AndroZip the file does not even show up, so I'm not sure whether the Wiko app cached the file name somewhere and, in fact, it does no longer exist, or if AndroZip cannot display the file due to the special character, even though it exists.
Long story short: The device is not rooted and I want to get rid of that broken file. What can I do without resetting or rooting the entire device? Is there any helpful app that can handle special characters? Is there any safe mode option that would be of use?

I'm reading through my keyboard's resource documentation (I use [MessagEase](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.exideas.mekb) normally), and I see that they state:
> Please note the Android does not provide any **Undo**.
However, I know this isn't actually true — at least, not in any apparent manner — because when using a **physical keyboard** Ctrl+Z invokes

undo
just fine, and doesn't require any additional/external applications, i.e., works natively via generic PNP (I've used telnet, BT, and RF varieties, all of which work). And yet, mysteriously enough, the function seems to be omitted *intentionally* (disclaimer: I have no evidence to support this conjecture).
In fact, MessagEase has extended input functionalities that include form field controls and ASCII character controls, and yet inputting Ctrl+Z results in a notdef
glyph output in the exact same form field.
Why is this the case?
EDIT: Please note that I am referring to connecting a physical keyboard to an Android device, I am *not* comparing PC vs Android UX.

How do I type umlauts and other special characters with Swype?
I can change the swype-interpreting language, but the keyboard doesn't show me any special symbols. HTC Incredible with Swype 2.4.44.10912.t100 (have not updated to Dec beta, yet). I just want to swipe "Blue Öyster Cult" -- is that so wrong?

I am attempting to access an ESP32 microcontroller running MicroPython over a web interface using the following page WebREPL which within my local network using Chrome on my PC is all fine.
The problem arises when I use the same page from my Android using Chrome and attempt to input the password, followed by the 'enter' key which is promptly rejected as the wrong password - the password I have configured uses only upper and lowercase with no symbols so the only way I can see things getting FUBAR is with the line ending being sent.
Can anybody shed some knowledge on what ascii or whatever code the keyboard would be sending back through the connection, or if there is any possibility there is a space being appended first (the web page does not echo the password keys being entered) - also are there any apps or hacks to give more transparency to what the keyboard is sending in general for non alphanumeric characters?

How to create a newline on keyboard
I would like to know how to create a newline on the current android keyboard (for example in a sms). And if it could be entered - would it be displayed? **Edit:** If you've got Android 4.1. It is just below the delete button. **Edit2 :** For Android 2.X it still is the question, where to find it.

I am running CM10.1 (Andromadus flavor, based on Android 4.2) on a HTC Desire Z with built-in hardware keyboard. To input keys that are not present on the keyboard, there is a symbol key that pops up a dialog where the symbol can be selected. With CM10 this symbol set was somewhat complete, but with CM10.1 some of the essential symbols such as "" are no longer available.
So my questions are these:
* Is there any way to fix this behavior to give me the complete set of symbols even in CM10.1? (see answer below)
* Where in the source tree is the code for this popup located? What component? I would be happy to hack it in order myself as long as I can find the relevant needles in the haystack.
* Is there any app that can be used in place of the symbol popup? I am not talking about a complete soft keyboard, but rather a quick popup dialog where a symbol can be selected and inserted at the cursor position.
* How would I go about modifying my keymap to for example add "" characters, hold the hardware key for "(" (press FN, then hold "G") and a popup will present "[", "{", "<". So, I have updated my question to if it's possible (and how) to modify the keymap to add characters to shifted keys on the hardware keyboard.

Missing backtick from soft keypad

I uploaded some music to my htc sensation (not rooted) by mounting the sdcard via usb as vfat from a desktop linux computer and copying the mp3 files and playlist files. This works fine as long as the song titles have only ascii characters. But often they have foreign characters (umlauts). So it's crucial to mount the device on my desktop with the same encoding as android mounts it, otherwise the titles looks scrambled and the playlists don't match with the song files.
So which are the mount options that android uses to mount the sdcard?
I tried the utf8 option on the desktop but it didn't work.

But this works *only for me for the "international"-style keyboard* (aka QWERTZ keypad). When switching to "Phone Keypad"-style keyboard (aka multitap/T9 keypad or 4x3 keypad), I will have no umlauts, though correct localization (set to "German"). Do you have any tips to make it work? I also observed the same behavior for the "Compact"-style keyboard.
**Phone:**
* HTC Desire S
* has Android 2.3.3 stock firmware
* No additional keyboard apps, as I recently bought the phone (5 days)
* Not using Swype (I know that this has pretty nice umlauts handling due to the dictionary)
