When I click on a link, it is always opened in a browser, even if I had installed the corresponding app. For example, YouTube, Reddit, etc. In Settings -> Apps -> Configure apps -> Opening links -> YouTube, there is the option **Open supported links** set to **Open in this app** and **Supported links** are *youtu.be*, *m.youtube.com*, *youtube.com*, *www.youtube.com*. Nevertheless, YouTube links are still being opened in browser. [This answer](https://android.stackexchange.com/a/67106) suggests installing [Open Link in App](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.snarfed.android.openinapp) , but I think that the system should handle this without any third-party app. I am using a phone with Android 7.0.

On whatsapp the youtube links such as youtu.be is forced to open on internal browser of whatsapp. Even though in **open by default** menu under *Settings/Apps/Default Apps/Opening links/youtube* has options set to open in supported links. Is this getting blocked from someplace else? Or has apps like whatsapp or facebook or firefox hijacked the ability to open youtube links directly in youtube.

If I click a Youtube link, which opens another app, I want to choose every single time which app to use. This worked fine in Android 11, since I could just set the option to 'ask every time' in the app manager, or something like that, and never tap 'always use this app'. However, this was rehashed in Android 12, at least on Pixels, such that I can only enable or disable opening certain links in a particular app. Is there a way to revert to asking always, if just for a certain domain? If I turn on opening the links for the official Youtube app, it becomes the default one for Youtube links. If I then also enable the same for the alternative app, the Youtube app still opens by default. There's a nuance that the Youtube app has 'verified links' for the youtube domain, and the alternative app just has a list of domains with '0 verified links'. Does this mean that Google simply took the decision away from the users and gave it to domain owners? [Google's instructions on the matter](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/6271667?hl=en) is that I need to turn off automatically opening links, for each of the alternative apps. But after that links are just opened in the browser instead of letting me pick the app. Even weirder is that some links still do ask me to pick an app—but not links to Youtube, which is what I use the most. This question was previously asked in regard to Android 8—but as mentioned above, the feature worked fine in v11, and then the problem cropped up again in v12. --- Edit: the docs on [‘Verifying Android app links’](https://developer.android.com/training/app-links/verify-android-applinks) say that only one app can be set as the default for a domain, which is understandable. This implies that enabling opening links in a particular app sets it as the only choice, and the functionality of letting the user pick the app each time is gone in this configuration. (Perhaps with the links that still give me the choice of the apps to use, those apps are built for an older version of the API—I might need to look into that.) It's also said there: > Before you manually invoke domain verification on a device, you must reset the state of Android App Links on the test device. To do so, run the following command in a terminal window: adb shell pm set-app-links --package PACKAGE_NAME 0 all > This command puts the device in the same state that it's in before the user chooses default apps for any domains. It's unclear whether this works on a particular app or all apps on the phone, and what the behavior is when the phone is in this state. Presumably it's back to when opening links is disabled for each of the apps, and they're opened in the browser instead. It's also vaguely and hazily suggested that Android will verify the links again on seeing a url-opening intent, not just after upgrading the app. Kinda sounds like my only solution is to have a separate app that acts as the default for the links, and have it pop up the choice of the other apps to kick the link to.

I want to have links that open certain OneNote notes. I was told in comments of a former question that we can achieve this like that: - Open OneNote on Windows, rightclick the note tab and choose "Copy Link of this note" - This gives two links, of of them beein like this: onenote:https://d.docs.live.net/ ... - Clicking on this link on an android device should open the same note page with the OneNote app Unfortunately, this is not the case for me! Here is the screenshot of how a Desktop-generated OneNote-link looks on my android phone: link on phone If I click on it the browser opens, not the app. In fact I am not too surprised because the beginging of the link, i.e. onenote:, is apperently not part of the link. Further, I noticed that under Settings -> Apps -> Apps -> OneNote -> Opening standards only the following formats are listed under supported links: *.sharepoint-df.com, onenoteresume.page.link, *.sharepoint.de and *.sharepoint.com. So the suggested link format onenote:https://[linktonote] is not listed here. Can I somehow add it here? And: is the beginging onenote: important at all since it is not recognized as part of the link? I don't understand why the link does not open the app for me but does for others.

I want to make shortcuts to OneNote notes on android in a certain folder (not app launcher folders, but folders visible in a file manager app). To do so I want to create a .url file containig the link to the note. Unfortunately, it is not possible to share notes with OneNote, thus I have no idea how the links look like. I was given the idea to enable developer mode on my android device and then to check the logcat while tapping the Android home screen shortcut. This should reveal the full Intent which contains the link of the note. I tried to do so but I don't understand the android developer mode. **Is this a possible way to find out the link of a shortcut of the home screen? Can anyone who succeeds in this share a OneNote home screen shortcut link**? I would like to know the link format so that I can make those shortcut link files by myself. ____ **What I mean by "link format"**: For example, I figured out that simply adding ?si= at the end of a Spotify web link opens the app. Compare https://open.spotify.com/track/3Bp8X5z1jgq7HS0tCr0liJ which opens the song in browser to https://open.spotify.com/track/3Bp8X5z1jgq7HS0tCr0liJ?si= which opens the same song in the app. I hope there is a simple solution as this for OneNote: Once I know the differences in format I can easily make android shortcuts from web links.

I seem to have tripped over a rarely attempted task in relation to links to files on the Android file system. There is one other question about this from 2013 and it was never answered (https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/39554/how-to-hyperlink-to-file-in-kingsoftoffice) . I want to create a link to a file in the Android file system (any file e.g. a PDF) within a document (e.g. for Excel or Word). I have my reasons which can be explained later if there is a solution. In the absence of a means to create such links in the apps, I obtained the pathname for a PDF on my Android phone and copied it to a Word-App doc on OneDrive. On my PC, I added a hyperlink to the doc linking to the Android pathname. Back on the mobile, with the updated doc open and the link visible, tapping the link resulted in the message -: *"Can't open. There's no web browser installed for this user profile, so the page couldn't be opened"* It seems the link is treated as an external link requiring a browser when Android needs to know that the PDF has an app it can use. Or it needs to open the default browser (Chrome) where the browser needs a PDF viewer extension, perhaps. Otherwise, I don't know Android well enough to know where to go from here. 10/04/2023 Update An example of the pathname is -: /storage/emulated/0/Download/xxx.pdf I have found that prepending "file://", the added text just disappears on 'save' leaving the above pathname unaltered. On changing to http://storage/emulated/0/Download/xxx.pdf the "http:/" remains in place and the error message changes to "Cannot display PDF (filename.PDF cannot be opened)" I deduce from this that the system recognises the hyperlink to the file and can extract and "understand" the filename but possibly can't find it or does not have permission to display it.

I am using a work profile (set up via Insular) in order to clone some apps. I have an issue I can't seem to find any info about on the internet and I'm hoping someone can help me here. I am using ColorOS on Android 13 if that has any importance. I have a cloned app that may have links in it. Because I have no browser on my work profile, it will just refuse to open the links, saying that I don't have any app that can do it. I don't want to pollute my phone with a second instance of my browser that I don't need. **Issue:** How can I tell my work profile apps to open links with an app outside of work profile? Weirdly enough it sometimes work??? Like some links from the work app will open just fine in Firefox from normal profile. But most won't especially YouTube links won't ever open the YT app, or browser for that matter.

On my old mobile phone (Samsung, Android 10) on the desktop, I have many folders with website links (you know, the ones you can create in Chrome when you select the "..." menu and then choose "Add to start screen"). Now I got a new mobile phone (Samsung, Android 12) and recognized that the Samsung Smart Switch tool doesn't copy the links from my old phone. I know I could open every link separately and then bookmark it, but this is cumbersome and not an option I want to consider since I have collected many links over the years. Is there a swift way to transfer the links from one phone to the other? - or - Do you know where on the phone the start screen links are stored? (then maybe a tool like TotalCommander would be able to copy it via a WiFi connection).

I install it and go back to Facebook to click the link again to open in app. Again, I get sent to the SoundCloud app in Play Store. Now, it is obviously installed already so I click open, but when I do it, seems like the link has been forgotten on the way, so I only get to the SoundCloud home page. This happens to me with many links and many apps, opened from both Chrome and Facebook. Any tips on how to fix this minor bug?

My phone is an LG-V60 (model is LG-V600TM). I'm on Android 12. I've seen this posted many times but every solution seems to refer to things I'm not capable of doing on my phone (or I'm missing it) so I hope you can help. When I click on a link from any source (I've tried Chrome and Discord), the link always opens in Chrome (my default browser) and not in the apps I have configured to open those links. This functionality used to work so I suspect my phone automatically upgraded to Android 12 and that's where this stopped working. So for example, if I click on a link that starts with www.reddit.com, I expect it to open in "rif is fun". If I click a link that starts with twitter.com, I expect it to open in Talon. Yet in neither case does this happen. I've checked my "Opening links" screen in "Default apps" probably 20 times now trying different things and nothing works. I'll put some screenshots below but I think everything is configured correctly. ![](https://i.sstatic.net/q19kX.jpg) ![](https://i.sstatic.net/AtUVZ.jpg) ![](https://i.sstatic.net/TfmuN.jpg) ![](https://i.sstatic.net/u1Dwe.jpg) I saw a post that said I have to verify the links for every app, but if so where do I do that? I tap the links in the "Opening links" page and nothing happens. Some of the screenshots I saw on Android Central for this don't look like my phone. Is there something I'm missing? Any help is appreciated.
