I am riding motorcycles with a tablet mounted above the dashboard. I have connected the tablet to my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra via Bluetooth (BT) and enabled BT tethering. All works well until the phone goes to sleep and the connection disconnects. Is there a way to prevent that? I would like to have the phone in my pocket but keep the BT internet sharing until I manually disconnect the tablet or turn it off. It seems the internet sharing stays enabled but the S22 disconnects the BT connection to the tablet after about 2 minutes. Reasons for not using WiFi hotspot - based on my research the overhead associated with WiFi hotspot is much larger, both in terms of battery life and bandwidth. In addition, different carrier plans do not allow the traditional WiFi hotspot but the BT Internet sharing works just fine.

I have a tablet (Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1) and a phone (Google Nexus 5X) both with CyanogenMod as ROM. When I close the lid of the case on the tablet, it automatically turns off the screen (and locks after some time). However, the phone stays active until the display timeout. 1. Is there a special setting or some hardware sensor which is not present in the phone or maybe difference in Android versions for phones and tablets? 2. I searched a bit and found app recommendations with the warning, that they will drain the battery. But when it's enabled in CyanogenMod, it should work on both devices without any apps, shouldn't it? 3. So is there some setting, does it depend on sensors, maybe the case (the tablet one closes with a small magnet, but I guess the proximity or brightness sensor should toggle the screen) or what else can be the cause for different behaviour?

I have the Kodi app to play the video on a loop using a playlist set to repeat all. But I want to make sure, while it's playing, it won't turn off on its own due to some timeout or sleep setting even if it plays for like 6 hours straight. Does anyone know if it would happen and what settings to change to prevent this?

When I turn the screen off on an Android smartphone, I want battery life to be conserved. Thus, I don't want any third-party apps running in the background, and I don't want the device periodically turning on WiFi (or connecting via 2G/3G/4G/5G). I set up a test Android Samsung smartphone running Android Nougat, and installed just 25 popular apps. I set all 25 apps to "Always Sleeping" in Settings. I then let the device sit for 8 hours with the screen turned off. During those 8 hours, the Android device connected to a WiFi router 59 times and transmitted/received data each time. I don't want to turn on Airplane Mode, because I still want the device to be able to receive and log incoming phone calls. Is there a way to accomplish this with Android (on a non-rooted device)?

WiFi drastically drains the battery. There is a setting to disable WiFi while the phone is on sleep. However, it's all or nothing: either you are connected all the time (and kiss good-bye to the battery) or you receive notifications from WhatsApp only when you happen to turn on your phone, maybe next week. Is there **an app that would force the phone to connect to WiFi every, say, 10 minutes while on sleep**, for WhatsApp to check for new messages? This would both save the battery and permit receiving messages (almost) in real time. As a workaround, maybe the app could just wake up the phone every 10 minutes, though this is a bad solution. Preferably I would like a ready app, not a programming way of doing it -- I am not good at programming for Android.

I have two OnePlus 7Pro devices, both running OOS 10.3.8 and both rooted. On one of these devices, I can go to ***Settings=>System=>Developer options=>Standby apps***, and in the resulting list of installed apps, I can successfully change the status of any app from "ACTIVE" to other values ("WORKING_SET", "FREQUENT", "RARE"). On the other device, when I go to ***Settings=>System=>Developer options=>Standby apps***, I also see the list of installed apps, but all are showing as "ACTIVE", and when I try to change that status for any app, the status does not change, and it remains "ACTIVE". This unchangeability persists after reboots. I have been trying to deal with doze-related issues on the second device, and I'm guessing that one of the many things I was experimenting with might have caused AppStandbyBucket values to become unmodifiable. What could I have done on this second device to prevent the Standby-app status from being changeable? ... and what can I do on that device to enable those status values to be changed? Thank you in advance for any thoughts and suggestions. **PS**: I'm wondering if there might be some config file somewhere on the device which should be writable, but whose permissions might have gotten changed to read-only. Is that possible? If so, what could be the file (or files) in question?

How do I keep my WiFi running when my phone's screen is off and locked? Facts: 1. The biggest battery drain is my screen usage 1. WiFi uses your battery, but not nearly as badly as the screen 1. I use my phone to stream audio 1. I intentionally turn off my phone's screen to save my phone's battery 1. If I'm playing a local file that I previously downloaded, then I have no issues with the audio stopping when my screen is off. 1. If I'm streaming audio, then sometime after I turn off my phone's screen, the audio streaming stops (I guess after it locks and the the stream buffer is empty) 1. Immediately after I wake my screen, the audio stream resumes. Unlocking the phone is not necessary to resume the audio stream. I assume, therefore, that my phone is disabling my WiFi sometime after my handset's screen is turned off. I am running LineageOS 18 (Android 11). How do I prevent my android device from disabling my WiFi when the screen is off?

How can I force my phone (Motorola One / Android 10) to stay up and not turn off the screen (as it does after 2 minutes), if I have a map-like app in the foreground: * Strava, * Google Maps -- just watching map and my location. So far I only figured out that when Google Maps are in actual navigation mode then screen never sleeps. But, when I just want to watch my location (in GM or Strava) then it turns itself off as usual. Is there anything I can do (like some way to register app as "never sleeping" in system configuration?). Or is this per application and only developer can add needed feature?

First of all I do not know the difference between "sleep mode" and "standby", so I am most likely using the wrong term in the following problem description: I build myself a little PWA that tracks my routes with OpenLayers. It works fine so far, but at some point the recording of a track is interrupted. I assume this is due to the automatic sleep mode, which "turns off" Chrome and probably therefore also "navigator.geolocation". Is there any chance to let my PWA and navigator.geolocation continue doing their work when Android is in sleep mode? And if so, is there any way to activate that setting via the PWA and without going into "Settings -> ... -> ..." (if that is at all an option)? Thank you! PS: The gis.stackexchange.com community recommended me to ask this question here. PPS: A "PWA" ("Progressive Web App"), in short, is nothing else but a web application that looks and behaves like a "real" app. Even though it is run in a browser (in my case I only focus on Chrome), it can be used offline via service workers, the UI does not show the browser's address bar and some things more. By using all the modern browser APIs it is possible to create an app without having to go through the app store (even though a PWA could be registered as an app in the app store, too).

I intend to buy a an Android tablet for a single use, as a remote control. It'll run a single app all the time and sit in a dock most of the time, occasionally being carried to another room. I want two features: stay awake while charging (searching this site showed me a few app solutions for this), and for the tablet to wake up when moved or when the screen is touched. Basically, I want as little time and as few manipulations as possible to get from just lying there on a coffee table to being awake and responsive. I expect this will decrease battery life (because the touch detection or accelerometers have to be active), and given my use case, that's ok as long as I still get 3-4 hours out of it. I don't have a specific tablet picked out yet, but I'm thinking something along the lines of the Galaxy Tab 8.9". The 7" screen size would be fine, but I want to us this in landscape mode all of the time and that works better if the dock connector is on the bottom while in landscape mode.

I saw a great Battery Historian guide and decided to try it out. I noticed that last night while my phone was unplugged, the "CPU Running" bar was active the whole time when I was asleep. This should only be intermittent, not a constant black bar. Here's the whole battery historian chart, CPU running stats at the top. enter image description here Hovering over the CPU Running bar, I can see what's causing the CPU to run: enter image description here A lot of "abort" wakelocks whatever they are. 1. **Abort: Pending Wakup Sources: dwc3-otg** 2. **Abort: Pending Wakup Sources: usb_notify** 3. There's also something called "Unknown". I have a Galaxy S20 (exynos). I have not used any package disabler app or rooting etc. Googling the above wakelocks brings back nothing. Just some random github code. Compared to this other S20 user's battery historian chart, my CPU running bar should be intermittent only. Image Any android expert have an idea how to diagnose this? edit: there's also constant "BLE Scanning" on the screenshot which is "bluetooth low energy". I have bluetooth off, nearby devices off, improve accuracy via bluetooth off.
