I am riding motorcycles with a tablet mounted above the dashboard. I have connected the tablet to my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra via Bluetooth (BT) and enabled BT tethering. All works well until the phone goes to sleep and the connection disconnects. Is there a way to prevent that? I would like to have the phone in my pocket but keep the BT internet sharing until I manually disconnect the tablet or turn it off. It seems the internet sharing stays enabled but the S22 disconnects the BT connection to the tablet after about 2 minutes. Reasons for not using WiFi hotspot - based on my research the overhead associated with WiFi hotspot is much larger, both in terms of battery life and bandwidth. In addition, different carrier plans do not allow the traditional WiFi hotspot but the BT Internet sharing works just fine.

Maybe it depends on the mobile data provider?

When on vacation I use my smartphone (Android 7.1.1 Nougat) as a modem for my laptop (Windows 10 Home) and tablet (Android 6.0 Marshmallow), tethering to the laptop with USB and the tablet with Bluetooth. This works fine and the speed is acceptable, but every time I disconnect/go out of BT range I have to re-establish the connection. With WiFi tethering this problem does not occur, but WiFi uses a lot more battery power. Is there any way to make USB and/or BT re-connection automatic? @Ce4's answer to [this question] [1] (jun 2013) mentions an app for permanent BT tethering but the link is broken.

I had this very awkward experience, today. My Samsung Galaxy A10s running Android 10 has ran into some serious trouble. I am shocked to find that my Wi-Fi is not turning on, my bluetooth is frozen and my hotspot is also not turning on. I do not realize, why this is happening. I am not a regular Wi-Fi user, I prefer Mobile networks, and it is extremely shocking to find that my device is not properly working. **My attempts to fix this** - I tried clearing the cache memory, of all apps, individually one by one, freeing up almost 120+ MB from internal memory. - I tried booting into **safe mode**, and then tried to enable Wi-Fi / hotspot/bluetooth, but *still* my efforts were all in vain. - I updated it manually to get the latest patches. But, still it is **not** fixed. - I tried *resetting* the network settings to default, but, still, my problems still persist. I do not know what else to do, to save my phone. All these features, that I lost are very very important to me. I humbly request to help me. Every help will greatly appreciated.

With an adb prompt or, failing that, a root prompt, how can I alter default behavior to root traffic through the VPN connection in Android 10 so that this behavior remains when unrooted? In the case of an Android phone connecting to another Android phone running a bluetooth tether, neither can apply any security precautions to the tethered traffic and this is a bit of a security risk. I need to fix this hole.

First, if I take the phone away from the tablet (go out for lunch), the tablet disconnects and has to be manually reconnected. Is there a way to have that happen automatically? Second, Bluetooth tethering, i.e. the internet sharing part needs to be switched on each time the bluetooth is switched on (or perhaps just after power cycling) on the S3. Is there no way to have that default to on? Thanks

Device: Galaxy Nexus Android: CyangenMod 11.0 (Android 4.4.4) The IT department of my company doesn't support access of Mac devices to its network, but it does for Android devices. So I would like to connect my macbook (Mac OS X 10.9.4) to the internet by tethering my phone's Wi-Fi connection. Bluetooth tethering is reliable, but rather slow (max 200KB/s download speed, in reality it is rather something like 80KB/s). So, I tried to use the USB tethering with the help of HoRNDIS (release 5) , which is magnitudes faster (22MB/s) than Bluetooth tethering. However after a while (some minutes), the connection is lost. To restore it, I have to unplug the USB cable, plug it in again and retick the checkbox 'USB tethering' on the 'Tethering & portable hotspot' page in the 'Wireless & Network' settings. In order to solve this problem, I tried the following: - Enable 'Android debug mode' & 'ADB over Network' - Screen always on Unfortunately, these attempts didn't work. Does anyone have a similar problem or workaround?

I carry two Android devices: my Nexus S phone, and a Nexus 7 tablet (both running Android 4.1 "Jellybean"). The tablet has Wi-Fi, but no cellular radio; so in order to use the Internet with it when there's no Wi-Fi hotspot nearby, I have the phone set up for Wi-Fi tethering: it effectively becomes a Wi-Fi hotspot, and the tablet uses that for Internet access. This works perfectly. However, I recently discovered what appears to be an alternate method of tethering: Bluetooth. Both devices have menu options that seem to allow it; here's screenshots of how I configured both devices: Phone Tablet Options on Phone and Tablet (click images for larger variants) I tested this by turning Wi-Fi off on both devices, then opening the browser on the tablet and refreshing the page that happened to be loaded. I saw a message that said Unable to connect to the Internet I was, of course, hoping to see the page reload. It's a shame that I cannot get this to work, because it promises one advantage over Wi-Fi tethering: easier security. I want to prevent other people from stealing my bandwidth; with Wi-Fi, this requires that I set up a WPA password, and then get that password onto the tablet somehow (which is quite tedious). But with Bluetooth, all that's required is that I "pair" the devices, which I've already done. So I am wondering if I'm doing something wrong, or if this feature simply doesn't work.

What is the current state of Bluetooth tethering on Android devices? I have a couple of phones Android 5 and Android 6 that I can use from PCs for Bluetooth tethering. Both phones have support for WiFi tethering also. As far as I can tell there are two ways of tethering from the PC. One is to use the old RFCOMM interface where a PPP channel over a Bluetooth serial link is created, where AT commands are sent and where the PC needs to know the APN of the carrier that is in the phone. The IP address is assigned to the tethered device and the phone cannot use that some connection. I have tried this with both phones and this works from the PCs. That was early 90's to 00's technology. I usually use the packet based Ethernet emulation (bnep) and access the Network Access Protocol/Protocol that runs over bnep. The NAP runs over PANU and has and ID of 0x1116. This creates a packet interface of IP packets with and address provided by the phone (with network access) and this is somehow used (using perhaps NAT as in the WiFi case) over the route-able Internet and both devices can use this channel. I have a couple of tablets that I can successfully tether using WiFi. But I cannot get tethering using Bluetooth NAP. I have searched far and wide and it seems that the only solution for Android is to run an app that creates two new PANU profiles over which a VPN connection is made (because VPNs can be created without root). Is my understanding correct? If so why is it that Fire/Nexus/Other tablets disable Bluetooth tethering?

I have a Samsung Galaxy 8. I use it a lot to tether my Samsung tablet which hasn't pushed an update in a long time. I found that bluetooth tethering saved my phone battery far better than wifi hotspotting. My data speeds were fine for me with blutooth. The latest update that Samsung or Cspire pushed to my phone ruined that! Now the tablet will not stay connected to the phone by bluetooth for longer than a minute, only wifi. However bluetooth still works fine with my vehicle connection. I still feel it's a phone issue since it happened right after the update. What can I do? I'm technology challenged! Thanks for suggestions!
