I downloaded an app [Phone INFO](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo) which shows a number of stats, particularly "Battery Discharge Cycles". I want to know if this number is being retrieved from the battery (i.e. it's just the number of cycles for the current battery) or the phone (i.e. it's the sum of the cycles across all batteries the phone has contained). In other words, if I insert a brand new battery, should I expect the count to drop to zero? Context: I have a Samsung S6, which doesn't allow easily changing the battery. I went to a phone repair shop to have the battery replaced. I left it there for the day and did not observe the process of replacement. Now I suspect that I was scammed and the battery has not been changed. I want to confront the shop and use the cycle count (which is still very high) as evidence, so I'm checking my understanding first.

Ascertaining damage from fully discharged android phone

I recently purchased a refurbished Pixel 8 Pro which was supposed to be in "pristine, flawless condition and looks and functions 100% as new". I do have a window of opportunity to return the phone and don't know if this is warranted. Unfortunately when I received the phone it would not start - and I needed to have it on a charger a while before it would actually turn on. After slowly fully charging the phone it appears to work OK, but I don't have an expectation /benchmark to test it against. I did install Acubattery. In slow charging it from about 24-84% it reported a battery capacity of about 5524mAh - however the phone battery is only rated at 5050mAh. (The second charge from 84-100% showed a capacity of only 3312.8 mAh). Battery Guru shows similar result of 100% health. and 5507/5050mAh. **How worried should I be about receiving the phone with a battery that was fully depleted?** - especially if I am planning for keeping it as long as possible. (This phone cost 3 times what should have had to/wanted to spend - but I purchased it because it had a few killer features not available on other phones - particularly the ability to run other ROMs like GrapheneOS and WIFI calling compatible with my carrier and a 7 year support guarantee and the Pixel 8 screen and battery is just too small.)

I went to a phone repair shop to have my display replaced, which was cracked. I took the opportunity to have the battery replaced too: My Samsung A40 is four years old and I noticed that the battery wasn't lasting as long as it used to. I have picked up my phone from the shop and while it is obvious that the display has been replaced, I am suspicious that they simply left the old battery in there: 1. The battery is draining quickly, as it was before: It's gone from 97% to 90% in about two hours. (I have not charged it since getting it back.) 2. When I turned on my phone after getting it back from the shop, the battery was at 97%, which is, I think, more or less the level it was at before I switched it off in the shop. 3. Under Settings > Device care > Battery > Battery usage, there is usage data for the last seven days. Shouldn't this be blank? Or does a change of batter _not_ reset this? Am I just being overly suspicious or is there a way to confirm whether the battery has been replaced? (Even if I did open it up and look, I didn't think to write down the serial number of the old battery.) If I were to go back to the shop to complain, then I would need firm proof. EDIT: My original question was not clear. Put succinctly: **Is there a way to tell whether a battery has been replaced using only the software?**

I want to analyze battery consumption of an app and ran:
> adb shell dumpsys batterystats > dump.txt
Within the filedump I found the section I am interested in:
Estimated power use (mAh):
Capacity: 3020, Typical: 3100, Computed drain: 1395, actual drain: 1510-1570
    Screen: 770 Excluded from smearing
    Uid u0a387: 364 ( wake=5.23 radio=0.0425 wifi=4.51 gps=349 sensor=4.88 ) Including smearing: 402 ( proportional=38.6 )
    Cell standby: 128 ( radio=128 ) Excluded from smearing
    Unaccounted: 115 ( ) Including smearing: 0 ( ) Excluded from smearing
    Uid u0a382: 40.6 ( wake=5.00 radio=1.40 wifi=34.2 ) Including smearing: 801 ( screen=684 proportional=76.9 )
    Idle: 27.4 Excluded from smearing
    Uid u0a83: 17.7 ( wake=0.240 radio=0.202 wifi=5.84 gps=2.33 sensor=9.06 ) Including smearing: 19.6 ( proportional=1.88 )
    Wifi: 10.0 ( wifi=10.0 ) Including smearing: 11.1 ( proportional=1.07 )
    ...
Each line contains info on "smearing", and if smearing is included part of this seems to be something called "proportional". These terms are not explained at all in the documentation.

Seems like at some point in the night, JobScheduler runs and finishes in a minute, but CPU stays on forever (even on full doze state). Reasons seem to be several Abort:Pending Wakeup Sources related to networking. At these point, battery discharge rate is ~2.5% per hour, whereas "normal" screen-off / doze rate is ~1.5%. These are some screenshots, and here's the bugreport.zip enter image description here Here's the CPU wakeup sources list, enter image description here And here's a previous time when JobScheduler runs and CPU behaved well, enter image description here

ADB dumpsys batterystats - How does one read it?

Why on earth does the adb shell dumpsys batterystats command not print regular timestamps? (Like usagestats does for example, or literally anything else on the planet.) Instead, it gives you a "RESET TIME" within the file, and the lines after that show how much time has passed since that time. "RESET" times mostly appear just once at the beginning, sometimes however they appear multiple times within the log, sometimes even skipping hours, seemingly at random. And as if that isn't bad enough.. Let me just show a real-life example: adb shell dumpsys batterystats Gives me (among other things of course) this: 0 (9) RESET:TIME: 2020-01-29-01-37-39 Good. So the time starts at 2020-01-29-01-37-39. Alright. Only reset time in the output. I just turned the screen on. Here is the entry in the log for that: +21h44m19s484ms (4) 057 +wake_lock=1000:"PhoneWindowManager.mPowerKeyWakeLock" +screen screenwake=1000:"android.policy:POWER" Great. +21h44m19s. It is now (well, it was when this happened) 2020-01-30-00-16-00. "RESET" time of 2020-01-29-01-37-39 + 21h44m19s = 2020-01-29-23-21-58. **?????** ---------- Okay, down to my actual questions: 1. Why does dumpsys batterystats not use normal timestamps? 2. How does one read those timestamps? They seem beyond broken. 3. Is there a way to change it to "normal" timestamps? ---------- (My goal is to track when exactly the screen (and optionally WiFi) was on and when it was off. If there is any other way to do that besides batterystats, please leave a comment.)

My phone is less then a year old and I had my Screen replaced by Samsung about 2 months ago.(they also changed the battery and aluminium body). So the battery is almost new. About a week ago something happened to my phone while i was using google maps and and it started daring battery at extremely high rate. it's was using almost 20% battery per hour with no use at all and it was getting hot while idling. Since like 4 days ago phone wouldn't even charge to 100%, it would get stuck at 70-80% because it was discharging faster then it could charge.(maybe it was getting too hot and stop charging). I had to revoke alot of location related permissions to slow the discharge to get battery to 100%. It's not as bad as before but it's still completely discharging from 100% to 0% is less then 10 hours with no use at all. It used to last almost 2 days with quite high usage before this bug. here's what I tried so far. - restarted the phone, - put every app to sleep and deep-sleep, - disabled allow location to apps even when location is turned off (same for Bluetooth and wifi) - turned off Bluetooth and wifi scanning even when they are turned off - disable the google app and google play services app. - did a settings reset. - factory(data) reset the phone. non of this fixed the issue. Even put the phone on medium and maximum power saving and the did nothing, discharge rate is still exact same about 10% per hour while idling. I took a few bugreports and viewed them in battery historian (online version ). I don't know what I should be looking for. Is it safe to post bugreport file here, i don't know what kind of info is in it.

I saw a great Battery Historian guide and decided to try it out. I noticed that last night while my phone was unplugged, the "CPU Running" bar was active the whole time when I was asleep. This should only be intermittent, not a constant black bar. Here's the whole battery historian chart, CPU running stats at the top. enter image description here Hovering over the CPU Running bar, I can see what's causing the CPU to run: enter image description here A lot of "abort" wakelocks whatever they are. 1. **Abort: Pending Wakup Sources: dwc3-otg** 2. **Abort: Pending Wakup Sources: usb_notify** 3. There's also something called "Unknown". I have a Galaxy S20 (exynos). I have not used any package disabler app or rooting etc. Googling the above wakelocks brings back nothing. Just some random github code. Compared to this other S20 user's battery historian chart, my CPU running bar should be intermittent only. Image Any android expert have an idea how to diagnose this? edit: there's also constant "BLE Scanning" on the screenshot which is "bluetooth low energy". I have bluetooth off, nearby devices off, improve accuracy via bluetooth off.

I have turned off WIFI in the settings, but it's still always running. Doesn't this graph indicate that WIFI is really on all the time? How can this be when it's definitely "off" in Settings? I'm worried that this constant WIFI use drains my battery and I want to avoid this. This is a Nexus 4 running Kitkat 4.4.4. I have also installed the Llama automation app which can optionally turn on WIFI every *x* minutes, but I have made sure that option is definitely turned off. This behavior continues even when Llama is not running. I don't think there's any other app on my phone that would have the capability to turn on WIFI on its own. Is there some way I could find out whether one of the installed apps is responsible for this? enter image description here

(When tapped on, the entry detail views show the percentages.) The entries have the same code/gear icon as the Android OS entry: entries detail same icon as Android OS entries / detail / same icon as Android OS (click images for larger variant) These aren't appearing in the last-hour view now, so it appears to be something that launched earlier, and then stopped. "Force stop" and "report" are grayed out in the detail views. Is this suspicious? Is there some way of checking these further? This is on a non-rooted HTC One M9 running Android 6.0

My phone usually work well until recently it turned out that battery gets really hot and camera Section that the phone starts popping that I should remove battery . when I look at battery usage I realise that Helper was the second after screen . what is even strange is that it is not found in system apps but there's no way to uninstall it .can only force stop and disable. But that doesn't help as though disabled , it still wakes up and I have to keep force stopping a disabled app. It doesn't want me to connect to WiFi . A soft reset doesn't do anything only a hard reset does .but once I start reinstalling my apps it starts again .All my apps are from play store and i m no longer using beta apps . Well some people here have came across [this](https://android.stackexchange.com/q/185941/211706) question I posted few days ago. I want to inform them that I had to reflash my phone (and I'll edit the details [there](https://android.stackexchange.com/q/185941/211706) as recommended by @Izzy) Device: Lenovo Vibe C Android: Lollipop 5.1.1 So now after a reflash I tried to root my phone again by the KingRoot app. It went fine upto 24% when I thought of disconnecting the router which it was connected to. The app showed me that a file could not be downloaded and then as it happens (on this device particularly during rooting, the phone shut down). Usually in such cases I remove the battery and reinsert it and boot the phone to continue with the root procedure but this time it did not happen. I tried twice but failed. It was after that I removed the battery for about 30s that it booted up again. After the boot the battery indicator in status bar was working in a strange manner. It first showed 50% then the next instant dropped to 2%, and remained there for about 1 hour. Then after I plugged the charger it again jumped back to 50%. In spite of this I charged the phone for rest of the evening. When I again started using it some minutes back, it started behaving strangely again. Initially the charge was 88% then it jumped down to 50% then to 69% and so on. Here are some statistical screen shots taken from 3C Toolbox. enter image description here enter image description here This one from the battery section of settings app. See the ups and downs at the end. enter image description here And another problem, I see this annoying notification even when my battery is at normal temperature. enter image description here My device is 2 years old so there are no issues with the battery itself I think it is the OS files that are causing the disturbance. I think this would be a silly question (as it is not possible) Did this happen due to the kingRoot app? What may be the cause, please help me out. **EDIT** The battery files of the OS, I think these (the current_now and the temp_cool ones) probably have been corrupted in some way. Can they be replaced with files downloaded from the internet(if any). Please help enter image description here
