I have a 2019 nVidia Shield Pro that I have historically used as a low power Plex server, but I've been experimenting more recently with some proper game streaming from my PC. The problem in short is that when streaming from Steam, the mouse lag makes any game unplayable. Controllers (both a shield game pad and an Xbox Elite controller) are pretty good and even shooters are fairly playable. The mouse and keyboard is seemingly fine in the shield native android OS. What else can I try to address this? From searching online I've seen the following recommended and I've tried: ### 1. USB interference ### Apparently USB3 can throw off interference that messes up other devices. I've seen 2 fixes suggested: - Switch USB mode into "Compatibility" instead of performance. This did nothing for me. - Remove other plugged in devices that might throw off interference. Removed the HDD I was using as my server and still nothing. ### 2. Network latency ### The PC is connected to my router via a set of Powerlines, and speeds are usually very good. The shield I have tried both wirelessly and ethernetted to the router and it didn't seem to make much difference. Steam Link routinely scores the connection as "Good" anyway, even over Wifi. I've also tested on my Mac and the Steam Link experience is considerably better than the Shield. I've also heard that Sunshine + Moonlight can give a better streaming experience, but it was pretty much the same for me. ### 3. TV latency ### The perceived lag could be down to the TV (an LG OLED), and forums suggest switching to game mode. I've tried this and it also didn't seem to make any difference. It also made the whole AV experience very unstable as it seems the Game mode on the TV automatically enables HD Deep Colour which the shield does not seem to cooperate with at all. ### 4. Device latency ### I've tried both wired and wireless (2.4GHz and Bluetooth) keyboards, albeit cheap ones (which wouldn't have amazing latency themselves) and in both cases the mouse seems to be pretty rubbish still (but they are markedly better on my Mac again). I've read that the polling rate for better mice might need to be pinned to 125 or 500Hz, but that would likely not apply to the basic ones I've been testing with. All devices are fine on the shield outside of the streaming apps. I don't think its a resource issue - the PC I'm streaming from is a Ryzen 5800X3D with a 6900XT. I've pinned resolution to 1080p etc, but all the diagnostics say I should be able to support high quality. I just can't believe that "_the_" streaming box for gaming would be this useless. I certainly expect some latency while streaming, but I would expect even casual games to be eminently playable. Utterly at a loss now, and the internet doesn't really seem replete with suggestions.

My setup: - Nvidia Shield is connected to the TV - I use the optical out of the TV to connect two speakers - I use the Nvidia Shield remote to control the Shield volume out (not the TV volume or the speaker volume: just the Shield volume) This setup has worked just fine for years, but I recently changed my TV from an old Panasonic plasma TV to a QLED from LG and it doesn't work anymore. What happens is that I can change the volume just fine if I'm in the dashboard or if I play a file locally. But if I stream something (I tried Netflix, HBO Max, and Disney+), the volume doesn't change and I get the pop-up saying that I have to go into settings and set up the remote control. This ONLY happens when streaming, and it did not happen with my old TV. I can change the volume just fine if I set the output to be the TV speakers instead of the optical out, but obviously that's not what I want. I have tried checking/unchecking IR, CEC, and HDMI fixed volume control in the Shield's settings but no luck. I also try to set up the remote again but also there, no luck. I'm looking for suggestions on how to be able to make it work also during streaming. Thanks!

I have an old NVidia Shield Tablet (AFAIK, the "original" one, not K1 rebrand, not TV one) that I decided to dug out and find some use. Unlocked, loaded TWRP... but when I try to ADB Sideload a ROM from TWRP in Recovery Mode, even [this stock one I found](https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-7-0-optimized-stock-shield-tablet-original-5-2-k1-5-2-14-08-17.3437791/) , I get the following error:
This package is for "shieldtablet" devices; this is a "".
Considering trying to Google for TWRP this is a "" is absurdly impossible, I'm reaching out for help here. I'm not an expert in Android stuff, but this seems like TWRP in Recovery Mode hasn't correctly detected what device my Shield Tablet is and I was also unsuccesfull in attempts to search for a solution that way. I'm able to attempt ADB sideloads, I'm able to ADB push files into the tablet. But no ROM I found so far seem to get through because of TWRP seeing the device as "". When I push a ROM like https://download.lineageos.org/foster_tab and try to install from within TWRP, I instead get an "Updater process ended with ERROR: 255" I'm also unable to flash Lineage's own recovery image. When I attempt to fastboot flash recovery lineage-18.1-20221212-recovery-foster_tab.img, it returns the error FAILED (remote: (InvalidSize))

i am kinda killing myself over this rn, but TL;DR I just soft-bricked my NVIDIA Shield Portable 2 (possibly 3?). The current state of things: The device turns on and is stuck at the NVIDIA splashscreen. I can no longer access the device through adb or fastboot or see it all when connected to my computer. This is a very niche product and I can't find any information on how to invoke the fastboot menu manually on the device. I've tried several combination of buttons but nothing seems to elude the splashscreen of death. Any and all advice is appreciated. I recently got my hands on this device at my workplace and never got to use it to its full potential :( I tried copying the recovery image onto a microSD card and inserting it into the device in the desperate hope that it would try to boot from there, but no luck :(

I have a NVIDIA Shield Tablet K1 running Android 7.0 and SHIELD tablet software version 5.2(24.29.404.153). My relatively new SD Card has a file which has been corrupted although I'm not sure exactly how this one file was corrupted when everything else seems fine. If I access the folder through Windows I can delete the file but it does not actually delete on the tablet. If I browse to the folder through the Android file explorer there is nothing in the folder and deleting the folder fails. I've tried installing SD maid & ES File Explorer and both apps were unable to delete the file or the folder. I was able to rename the folder through ADB Shell but if I try to delete it or try and list the file it throws the following errors shieldtablet:/storage/sdcard/BrokenFolder $ ls ls: ./Noisecontrollers - Pillars Of Creation (Full) [HD].mp3ß▒Ñºíü: No such file or directory shieldtablet:/storage/sdcard $ rm -rf ./BrokenFolder rm: ./BrokenFolder/Noisecontrollers - Pillars Of Creation (Full) [HD].mp3ß▒Ñºíü: No such file or directory rm: ./BrokenFolder: Directory not empty Is there anything else I can try to delete this file short of formatting the hard drive, its a 128gb SD card that is almost full and transferring 128gb over USB 2 is quite slow. It is not rooted and i'd rather not root it if not necessary

Right now I have to tether off my phone just to use internet. I'm running stock android 5.1 with the latest updates Best I can figure looking at the logcat logs from ADB is that it has something to do with this line.
W/wpa_supplicant( 583): wlan0: WPA: Failed to configure IGTK to the driver
I/wpa_supplicant( 583): wlan0: RSN: Failed to configure IGTK
I don't have my device rooted, so I don't know if I can disable PMF in the wpa_supplicant.conf. Any ideas?

On a more empirical approach, I have noticed two behaviors somewhat contradictory and strange: - If I connect a wired gamepad, the shield tv wakes up more often. - Without internet access (but with a local network) the shield tv doesn't wake up So, my other question is: what can I do to stop these wake up? (My shield tv is rooted and I have sideloaded some apps, maybe it's related but I prefer to avoid a reset...) Thank you.

Skip "Sign in to Google" when setting up new Android device

I have a setup like this : [Shield TV 2015] 10.10.2.112 [OpenWRT Router] [Synology SMB Share] 10.10.3.11 I want to be able to access all my NAS files with any apps on the shield TV, so, I want to mount permanantly the SMB share on the Shield. So after confirming the connection was router correctly usig solid explorer integrated smb client, I went into the shield settings > Storage > add new network storage and inputed the NAS path (\\10.10.3.11\Public) and the associated credentials. However, it can't mount it, and according to logcat, it can't find the NAS netbios name locally, which is normal as it's in another subnet, but abnormal as I inputed it by IP. Moving the nas to the main subnet is out of the question for multiple reason. In the end, is there a way to force the mount with just the IP ? I'm open to all suggestion, even root or scripts ones.

Important note: I used a Mac whilst doing this. Also Important: I have the Android 6.0 update installed. I got a Shield Tablet K1 for Christmas and attempted to root it. However, I'm having a lot of issues with it, and I'm worried I've messed up the recovery part of the tablet. First, I unlocked the device, and set it up. This worked fine. I went to flash the tablet with TWRP for the Shield Tablet, which I obtained from here: TWRP Shield Tablet I used the command "fastboot flash recovery ", and it looked like it had completed. However, **it appears it has not completed.** Booting into Recovery Mode using "adb reboot recovery" brings me to a screen with the android lying on the floor, with a red triangle over him. Attempting to go into recovery mode using the down volume key & the power button, usually brings me to the Nvidia boot screen, where the brightness increases after a few seconds but then it just sits there until it eventually reboots. Then, after attempting to reflash the stock recovery.img that I got from here: Shield Open Source Drivers and Images it still gives me the a) red triangle and laying dead android or b) nvidia bootscreen that sits for a long time before rebooting. I am completely lost. I can't tell why this isn't working - it should by all means be working, yet nothing is flashing. If anyone can fix this, it will be much appreciated.

I'm thinking of buying the NVIDIA SHIELD K1 tablet. I was very impressed by the specs, especially as it's only $299. I noticed however, that it only shipped with 5.1 Lollipop. Of course, for a 2017 tablet this is appalling, especially with the recent release of Android Oreo. NVIDIA say they provide an OTA update to Marshmallow, although in South Africa, where I live, OTA updates are useless because cellular providers don't care about them. But then I realized something. The tablet doesn't *have* a SIM card, so it can't rely on cellular providers to send out the OTA updates, so how does it get them? And does it rely on cellular providers to give it to you?

I have recently bought the Nvidia Shield Tablet, which happens to have Mini HDMI output. As a PhD student in Maths (potentially staying in academia afterwards), I give and will most likely continue to give presentations on a regular basis and was wondering whether it would be possible to do away with bringing my heavy laptop to conferences and just completely rely on my tablet instead. It seems like the answer is positive, as there are Android versions of pretty much all the computing software I use and a Bluetooth keyboard should allow for a rather smooth 'working experience'. One final issue that stands out is presentations and in particular the comfort of having a pointer to work with. The way cheap wireless pointers work these days is that you simply plug in a small usb stick to your laptop and immediately it starts to work. Can something similar be achieved with Android? Quickness is key here, I really want to be able to just plug things in and be good to go. I can see two possibilities: 1) Use the so-called USB On-The-Go adapter (micro USB to normal USB) and then plug in the usb stick provided. Any chance of this simple approach being a solution? 2) Buy a more sophisticated pointer which has Bluetooth support and use it to connect it to your device. I guess once it is connected it should work immediately? King apologies if this question is a duplicate (I sincerely think it isn't, I have done a fair bit of digging) or whether the answer is simply 'both (1) and (2) will work', but I just wanted to be sure before I order relevant accessories.

I have a Shield Android TV (first version with 5.2 installed). I'm trying to install Half Life 2: episode one from the play store. But it's not working properly. The app is 2.6GB and over DSL it's going to take a while. I'm not getting any errors, but after a while (something more than 50 minutes) when I check I find the install has stopped and I'm back at an "install" prompt with no indication of any saved progress. Selecting install just starts the process from the beginning again. As this is a paid app, I doubt I have the option to just download an APK via a different tool and sideload. Is this a timeout on the system? Any workarounds likely (short of a faster network)? ADDED. On earlier attempts, when I cleared the screensaver, there was no message. On my most recent try, I kept the screensaver off and around (exactly?) an hour into the download an error appeared. > Error > > "Half-Life 2: Episode One" can't be downloaded. Try again, and if the problem continues, get help troubleshooting. (Error code: 495) The phrase "get help troubleshooting" in the message appears to be a link, but the virtual cursor doesn't appear here, so I can't click or inspect it, only dismiss the entire dialog.

I unpacked the boot image from TWRP backup and repacked it without any modifications. but once i flash this image, it only boots to recovery - it fails to boot to android system. I used the tools from https://github.com/pbatard/bootimg-tools and the following commands to extract and remake the boot image. # to extract unmkbootimg -i ../boot.emmc.win mkdir ./extracted cd ./extracted && gunzip -c ../ramdisk.cpio.gz | cpio -i #to recompress cd ./extracted && find . | cpio -o -H newc | gzip > ../ramdisk.cpio.gz mkbootimg --base 0 --pagesize 2048 --kernel_offset 0x10008000 --ramdisk_offset 0x11000000 --second_offset 0x10f00000 --tags_offset 0x10000100 --cmdline 'androidboot.hardware=tn8' --kernel kernel --ramdisk ramdisk.cpio.gz -o ../boot.emmc.win The one possible issue I am seeing is that the newly created .emmc.win image is much smaller than the original one and has no trailing zeroes. I am unsure how to avoid this issue and create a correct boot image. MiscInfo: Device is Nvidia Shield Tablet, initial kernel/rom is cyanogenmod.

I have Shield Android TV device. Everything was working well until I decided to adopt an SD card following Android 6.0 release. Everything still works mostly well, a little bit slower but OK. The problem I have is with the applications which need to write/read a lot of data. I'd like to buy a faster external storage (probably an external SSD USB drive) and adopt it. Is there a way to clone the SD card to a new adoptable storage without resorting to moving everything from the SD card to external USB drive, changing the adopted storage and moving the data back? I'm not sure will it even work?
