So, before you dismiss this question please continue reading for all the details. I have my music collection on an SD card on my phone. All my music is very well organized, I'm almost OCD about it. All my music is properly named: AlbumArtist/Album/track# - title.mp3 All my files are mp3s, all of them are using only ID3v2.4.0 with no ID3v1 (some people use both [itunes?] ID3v2.x and ID3v1, not me). Every single tag field is using UTF8 encoding. All my music has an Artist and an Album Artist field, genre, track number, album art (properly encoded), date, and album, strictly no other field. None of my file-names contain special characters either. I've gone even to the extreme of creating scripts on my computer to make sure that every single mp3 file on my collection is stored with the previous parameters. Now, there are a couple of songs the Google Music keeps showing as "Unknown Artist", no track-number, no album art, etc. even after all the previous efforts. Other music apps (i.e. Rocket Player) show the correct info without a problem. I've clear Google Music data, reinstall it, reboot phone, but nothing fixes this issue. I've searched online and this forum. There are two other questions related: - https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/115170/unknown-artist-in-music-player - https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/48252/google-music-unknown-artist-only-in-android-app The first is totally the opposite of me, where I'm very knowledgable of the ID3 tag standard, how to edit it (I've created Python scripts to automate the process) its version, encoding, and fields. The second is related to FLAC and none of my files use any other format besides MP3 (with ID3v2.4.0 and UTF8) Does anybody have any idea of what's going on? Why doesn't Google Music want to read the ID3 from the files? It feels like it's getting its info from an old database and not the files themselves. PS: I'm using Android 7.0 and latest version of Google Music at the time of writing (v7.10.5022-1.T4178353)

I tried copying my large music library from my internal storage to my external micro sd card, only to find 50% of my album art went missing, some artist and album info is gone, while the songs themselves are fine. Tried copying them back to my computer just to check and there the tags where intact. I've tried converting every id3 tag to a specific version to see if that might resolve the issue, but it didn't. Which got me thinking, could it be the sd card? I mean it's not damaged, i just bought it, it's brand new. But perhaps the filesystem of the sd card is somehow different from the one in internal storage, and doesn't support some of the tags..? I'm not an expert when it comes to filesystems, so any help would be appreciated. I tried to check the files on the sd card from both 2 file managers (google files & ES File Explorer) and Rocket Music Player. I'm running Android 9 and formatted my micro sd card as usaul through the settings app. I'm using an motorola moto e6 plus. My device is NOT rooted.

I am using the id3-tag "comment" field to assign tags that characterize the content of songs to mp3 of my music library. The contents of a comment field of an mp3 file could look like this: upBeat happy fast bassHeavy In this example I want to be able to search my library for 'upBeat' and have all songs listed that contain this string in their comment field. I have a DJ-Software on my laptop that supports this. I want to be able to do the same thing on my Android device. I tried it with shuttle, Poweramp, doubleTwist and phonograph so far. To me it looks like none of them are capable of achieving this. Are there any players that support this? If not, is there a different (better?) way of finding all songs belonging to one tag? Moving the same file to a different device (e.g. desktop computer) should not require reassigning the tags.

I am often surprised by the treatment of MP3 names by the native music player, Play Music. Fairly frequently albums are split, or unexpected titles pop up, etc. I am pretty meticulous about ID3s in my collection, and I often can't exactly determine the reason for the unexpected behavior. Luckily, for those files I copy directly to the phone (Nexus 4), I can fix the issue fairly simply with an app called MP3dit (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ADnet&hl=en) . For those that I upload to the cloud via Google Music Manager I am not aware of any such option. Is there a method for changing these? I can't find any alternatives/plugins to Google Music Manager, or at least not yet. I thought of trying the "Keep on Device" thumbtack button - doing keep, making the edit, and then unkeeping it. However, this is would be tedious and unwieldy, plus I can't seem to find the location of the file once it is downloaded. One, but far from the only example. Tags looks uniform, but player splits album. And that one funky artist name with all the extra spaces! Back on the hard drive - looks well tagged and uniform From the phone - far from it! So... 1 - Is there a way for me to change the artist/track/album info on these cloud-stored songs? 2 - Can anyone shed some light on the naming system in general? I'm fairly certain it isn't simply ID3s. Some albums that look totally uniform on my hard drive are then split when copied to the Nexus 4 (both on device and remotely stored, but at least those on the device are fairly easily fixed)

Ok, so I'm not got to act like I know what I'm talking about, but I've done a fair bit of googling and stuff like 'write permissions' have come up over and over again when searching id3 tag editors. My question is, how do I edit my music titles? ie album name and song title. Some of my songs have unknown artist or album. I have a LG G4 with marshmallow 6.0, my old G4 had lollipop and I could edit my music with an app. That phone got run over, my new G4 now has marshmallow. I bought it a few weeks ago. The apps that claimed to work don't, black music player had a built in editor and it looked promising, it let me edit my music but after exiting the app and going back in, it had changed back to the original title.(two hours of my life I can't get back.) So is there anyway around this with a simple fix? Nothing too technical please like 'rooting' whatever that is....or I've read you can convert your external sd card to become an extension of your internal storage somehow...and I've heard bad things about that too, like lag and storage issues. I just want to organise my music....something I enjoy doing. So any ideas would be great 😊 Thanks, Beck.

Hi and thanks in advance Samsung Galaxy S 3 Mini, gt-i8190n, android 4.1.2 **My problem:** there are preinstaled/default/built in images for sound files that appear in Music Player (they're ugly for me) That's what I write about. **My question:** where can I find them, what is the path to the folder with them, can they be accessed without rooting, can they be switched? I don't need to nor I want to change album artwork with any app, I don't need to have album artwork matched with every sound file, I'd just like to switch up those random built in images to some that don't hurt my eyes with their ugliness :P And I'd really, really like to know where they are and what is path to them, even if I won't be able to change them, but at least to satisfy my curiosity, and I'd appreciate an answer with those informations the most. Please and thank You :)

Let me try to explain with a real issue: I've got Anouk's Together Alone album. All the songs have the same album tags. However, Play Music likes to show 2+7 songs (9 songs in album) as 2 different albums, as seen in the below screenshot. How do I fix that? enter image description here

One of my albums has a corrupt album art and I can do nothing to fix it. The cover is stored as a file named folder.jpg in the audio files' folder. The picture looks fine when I open it with any picture viewer on my computer. But on my Android device it looks like a plain gray box with only a small part of the upper-left corner showing the actual picture. I've deleted this picture and replaced it with a higher res one I found on the Internet (totally different source). The album art is still corrupt. I've deleted the album (audio + jpg files), rebooted the device, and copied it back. The album art is still corrupt. I've deleted any embedded album art in the MP3 files' tags using foobar2000 and MP3Tag. The album art is still corrupt. I've cleared the data of the "Media storage" app and rebooted the device. The album art is still corrupt. I don't know what I still can do. The audio playing apps I've been using include Winamp, Songbird, Google Play Music and Shuttle Music Player. Each of them showed the corrupt album art the same way. I'm using Android ICS on an HTC One V.

Audio players read "Chromatics" as "The Chromatics" from ID3v2 MP3 tags

On Android, Shuttle Music Player and the default music player display this artist's name as "The Chromatics". Either Android is guessing that it should add the "The" prefix automatically, or there are hidden, incorrect tags somewhere in my files. The files initially contained ID3v1 tags as well but I've deleted them. I don't know if the error comes from my files or from a database stored by Android. Most importantly I don't know how to fix it. I've already tried deleting the audio files and rebooting, and clearing the data of the "media storage" app and rebooting, but none of this worked.

The MediaStore provider on Android is really screwed up. On Android it isn't possible to define different cover art for songs in the same Album. Especially for compilations and "Various Artists" Albums. This is annoying! PlayerPro was able to use ID3 Cover-Art instead of the MediaStore cover art, but this doesn't work since it has been updated. Same goes for most music players for android, as they always use the MediaStore Class on Android to get the cover, and not their own implementation to get the ID3 embedded cover art. To work around this issue, I can tag the Album-Artist tag on all files with the same Album tag: Artist Title Album AlbumArtist CoverTag Displayed Cover Daft Punk Get lucky Singles Daft Punk get lucky get lucky Deftones Bored Singles Deftones bored get lucky Avicii Levels Singles Avicii levels levels Avicii Wake me up Singles Avicii wake me up wake me up This work around will correctly display different covers for each of those songs, all in the "Singles" album, BUT not for the two different songs by Avicii. It's because the Mediastore Class will allow different covers for different "AlbumArtists" on a single Album. Since the AlbumArtist tag for both Avicii songs are the same, it will only use one of the covers for all Avicii songs in the same album "Singles". Solutions not preferred: - Weird tag changes - separate folders on the phone **Any solution for PlayerPro, on Android itself, or my system of tagging? Or is there a different player which can handle embedded cover art correctly?**

When I play certain MP3 files (such as lessons from JapanesePod101.com) on my iPod Touch, lyrics or transcripts that are embedded in the MP3 files are displayed in the media player. I find this to be an extremely useful feature, and I believe I'm not alone. Despite that, neither the stock Android media player nor any other media player I've downloaded from the Market seems to support this. I just have not been able to find any way to get feature on my Nexus One. This feature is important enough to me that I'm considering learning Android development just so I can write a simple media player that displays embedded lyrics or notes. However, the fact that nobody else seems to have done this makes me wonder - is it even possible? Is there something in the Android architecture or APIs that make it difficult or impossible to read and display lyrics information from MP3 files?
