My Pixel 8 seems to be stuck thinking that an external monitor is still connected, despite having disconnected it hours ago. My friend let me connect my Pixel 8 to his portable monitor via USB-C to try it out. That worked fine and then I disconnected it. But now, hours later, I still see the external display icon in the top bar and I see "External Display" listed as "on" under "Other devices" in Settings > Connected devices. Beyond this, there are other oddities: I get no sound from my phone when I play videos (because it's trying to play sound on the phantom display?). When I take screenshots, I get two at a time (one of the phone screen, one of the phantom display?). As far as I can tell, there is no way to tell the phone that it's disconnected. Tapping on "External Display" takes me to a screen that lets me change the rotation on the external display and shows its resolution, but there's no control to disconnect. Long pressing, swiping, etc on "External Display" do nothing. I don't see any way to make the phone realize the display is not connected. I've tried a few other things to try to fix it: - Connecting my phone to my PC with a different USB-C cable - Connecting to a monitor of my own with USB-C to DisplayPort (although, the phone doesn't recognize this monitor) - Plugging a USB-C cable in to the phone with nothing on the other end - Unplugging the USB-C cable - Turning airplane mode on and off - Locking/unlocking I haven't tried restarting yet, because it seems crazy that my phone is stuck thinking it's got a display attached when there is literally nothing connected. connected devices external displays

I have an Android phone with a broken screen. When I try and unlock it, while attached to my monitor via USB-C, all I can see is a lock icon floating around. I roughly guess where the dots are for the pattern and usually I can get it unlocked. Now, there are also some apps that I use that ask me to enter a password. Again, the screen goes black and I cannot see what I am doing. I've tried entering the password with the keyboard but no luck. I imagine this is some type of security feature doing this. Is there a setting to turn that off so I can see these screens?

_To avoid this question being flagged as a duplicate, I have included a list of similar questions at the end of this post with an explanation about why my question is different. Please read these reasons before you flag this question as a duplicate!_ --- I'm trying to work out how to get my Nexus 5, in portrait mode, to display on an external monitor, in portrait mode (connected via SlimPort/HDMI). In landscape mode everything is fine: Landscape mode, monitor on left, phone on right However in portrait mode, the signal is still output as if it is meant to be displayed on a landscape screen, which doesn't work at all if the screen is in portrait mode: Portait mode, monitors left and middle, phone on right You can see here that in both landscape and portrait mode the phone is outputting the same 1920x1080 signal, except in portrait mode the screen content is being rotated by the phone's GPU and displayed as a 607x1080 image in the middle of the 1920x1080 screen. (It is not, as some people have suggested, outputting a 1080x1920 signal that the monitor is centering. You can verify this because changing the phone between landscape and portrait shows a nice rotation animation and the monitor does not lose sync as it would if the resolution changed.) Since the phone, when in portrait mode, is rotating the picture sent to the external display, I want to disable this, so it is just output as-is with no rotation. This will of course appear wrong on a landscape monitor, but when you rotate that monitor into portrait mode it will be fine: enter image description here Is there any way to disable this rotation, so that an external display in portrait mode can display the phone's content when it too is in portrait mode? --- _Similar questions have been asked before, but none are after the same solution:_ * [35402 - Show Fullscreen Portrait Layout with Miracast](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/35402/show-fullscreen-portrait-layout-with-miracast) is very similar, except the question is about using Miracast wireless display whereas this question is about wired displays, in this case via SlimPort. * [37887 - HDMI output mirroring in Portrait mode](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/37887/hdmi-output-mirroring-in-portrait-mode) is asking how to prevent apps from being forced into landscape mode when an external display is connected - my question is about apps that do not get forced into landscape mode * [67648 - How to change Android default-natural orientation?](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/67648/how-to-change-android-default-natural-orientation) asks how to change the default rotation of an app, it has nothing to do with the image sent to an external monitor * [100196 - Is there are way to change Android's default screen orientation?](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/100196/is-there-are-way-to-change-androids-default-screen-orientation) asks how to make apps default to landscape, as the external screen is landscape (in my question the external screen is in portrait) * [101305 - Force portrait mode on device](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/101305/force-portrait-mode-on-device) is about forcing a specific app into portrait mode, and is not about adjusting the picture sent to an external display

Few apps (iDisplay, AirScreen, AirDuet screen, etc) exist for only mirroring/sharing the screen - but not extending it. It's like using two monitors for your PC side-by-side & you select 'Extend display' between two monitors and hence the display bisects into two monitors. Same principle to phones.

Got my S3 Mini with CM11 stuck at boot after adding external display simulation in Developer Settings. Just after that UI froze and I had to reboot. After that it freezes on "Android is upgrading" popup and the progress circle isn't even running. I tried going to Safe Mode but the only difference is that the progress circle is running all the time but nothing happens for another hour. Logcat says something like this: I/DisplayManagerService( 2137): Display device added: DisplayDeviceInfo{"Nakładka nr 1": 720 x 480, 60.000004 fps, density 160, 160.0 x 160.0 dpi, touch NONE, rotation 0, type OVERLAY, FLAG_SECURE, FLAG_PRESENTATION} E/gralloc ( 1671): gralloc_alloc: gralloc_alloc_framebuffer (google) failed, Out of memory E/FramebufferNativeWindow( 1671): fb buffer 0 allocation failed w=480, h=800, err=Out of memory Is there any way to remove the additional display without having to do data wipe? I have full access to ADB and recovery. Just this one thing stops Android to boot further.

I want to start using my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra as a computer. I'm also planning to buy an ultra-wide 49-inch monitor that I want to display the Samsung screen on using DEX mode. I want to connect the phone to the monitor using a USB-C cable. I'm talking about a monitor having screen dimensions of 5120x1440 or something very similar, e.g. [Philips 499P9H](https://www.coolblue.nl/en/product/826182/philips-499p9h.html) . I haven't purchased the monitor yet because I want to know first whether the built-in video card of the Samsung Galaxy S21 is powerful enough to handle the resolution of a 49-inch ultrawide screen. Does anyone know whether this smartphone can handle such a widescreen? It needs to be able to fill the entire screen, not just part of it.

I recently bought a Waveshare display to connect my Raspberry Pi (RPI) to it for showing Home Assistant info. The display also has a second HDMI port which I would like to use to connect my Chromecast Google TV. However, the default resolution (EDID data) is 1080x1920, so by default a portrait mode display. In my RPI, I can rotate the screen to 1920x1080. But I'm still looking for a solution for rotating also the Chromecast GGTV. I already tried to install a "screenrotation" app, but nothing happened. I also tried to connect to the screen through adb and run some commands, but not the result I was hoping for (I got a message that the Chromecast did not support that resolution). Today I found on the internet an EDID emulator. Could this be a solution? These are the EDID timing parameters of the display:
Pixel Clock H Addressable H Blanking V Addressable V Blanking H Front Porch H Sync Width V Front Porch V Sync Width H Image Size V Image Size H Border V Border
141.12 1080 120 1920 40 40 20 2 5 1080 1920 0 0
Any idea how to solve my problem (if there is a solution)? Link to my display settings: https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/21.5inch_FHD_Monitor

Is there any way to connect the device to a computer without replacing the screen? I've read it is possible to connect the phone to external monitor and a mouse, but is there any adapter for usb-c 2.0 otg allowing to display the screen on external monitor? Besides to use OTG it seems it has to be accepted on the touchscreen beforehand: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_88baLPHdxo . The phone wasn't rooted and no custom modifications were done to it.

I want to turn my phone into a Linux Desktop when I connect it to an external display but not using screen mirroring (I.e., the external screen is running while phone screen is turned off). There is something similar to my needs called "Samsung Dex" but I don't have it on my phone. I found steps to install Linux Distro & open graphical desktop using VNC but never found a way to open it on the external display. I also found Drivedroid but I don't want neither to run root (hence erase data and lose phone warranty) nor to use a computer as a device resource (CPU, Ram, GPU...). All googling lead to "turn android to second screen" no matter how I rephrase it. The only questions that is almost similar to my case are this & this . All I am asking for is keywords to search for. Keywords that I used to search for: 1. Ubuntu for Android: just gives me links to Ubuntu touch; not my question. 2. Docking android: gave me some results for devices that I can buy (like nex book that uses phone or RPI to run a semi-laptop). 3. Android as Linux Desktop: results for "use android as second monitor"
