I have tried rebooting, and also resetting the WiFi antenna (i.e., either by turning it off then on, or by switching to airplane mode and then back out of it). I have to use the stock kernel otherwise the phone hard bricks.

How to 'root' (or gain root access to) a Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 with Android 2.1-update1?
I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 with Android 2.1-update1 and I need a quick easy way to get root access so I can boot it through a custom ROM me and a friend have been working on (the custom ROM is like Gingerbread (Android 2.3), but with a different UI so that it's compatible with my phone)

When I inserted SIM card into my phone I tapped the "cancel" button, assuming that it would be possible to unlock it later. But I fear that my assumption was wrong. The device is a **Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8**. Sadly I cannot find anything in "Settings" to unlock the SIM. I have tried removing and inserting the SIM card several times, but it doesn't help. Somehow the devices remembers that I selected cancel. I'm not seeing any prompts related to unlocking the device. ---- I can see that the APNs page is empty. There is no Add button on it. Settings -> Wireless & network settings -> Mobile network settings -> Access Point Names ---- Mobile network state Disconnected ---- Firmware version 2.1-update1 ---- Build number 2.0.1.A.0.47 ---- Model number E15i ---- Is it hidden in another app or is there something I have overlooked?

I would like to use my SE Xperia 8 with 2.1 as an usb wifi adapter to my PC. What I would like to do is set it to access point mode and share my ADSL internet with my laptop through wifi. I would connect the phone via an usb cable and I would like to be able to route and share my pc's internet through it to and back from my laptop. I don't mind if the firmware must be changed as I have an other phone. But I prefer if there is easier/more convenient way to do this. On the pcs I'm also flexible about OSes. How could I use my phone as an wifi adapter? **EDIT** To make it more clear, here is what I mean: I have: * "PC A" with internet over ADSL. no wifi. * my phone, it has an usb cable and a wifi chipset. * "PC B" with wifi What I would like to do us **to use PC A's internet on PC B, with the help of my phone**. Connect Internet to PC A, then connect my phone to PC A, then connect PC B to my phone via Wifi, and use PC A's internet on PC B. Internet >>> Adsl modem >>> ethernet cable >>> PC A >>> USB cable >>> phone >>> wifi >>> PC B

My phone is a Sony Ericsson Xperia X8, and I'm using CyanogenMod. There is an app called ROM Manager included in CyanogenMod, and I found an option 'Fix permission' there. I shouldn't have used this: I had no problems before but I have some now. During the fixing process I got a lot Force close dialogs, and after next reboot the phone had reset to the *default* CyanogenMod home screen configuration, *default* options for many programs, and *default* network parameter. I also got some more Force close dialogs. I have a backup done a week ago, but I really installed a lot during the week, so I don't want to lose it all. I hope there's a way to recover current situation. I tried this through adb shell: chmod -R 755 /data/data chmod -R 744 /system/app but it didn't help. I even tried this stupid idea: chmod -R 777 / but it made even worse: after reboot, my phone forgot even my Google account and offered to reconfigure it as if it was the first time I switch the phone after buying it. Can somebody tell me which file/directory permissions could ROM Manager change and how should I restore them to make everything work? Currently I have a backup made immediately after I discovered the problem. **UPDATE:** This fix_permissions.sh didn't work for me.

Lockscreen on capacitive touchscreen?
My phone (SE Xperia X8) has a capacitive touchscreen, which, I'm told that only reacts to fingers. So does it have a point to have lockscreen enabled? I use Cyanogenmod so I can easily disable it.

> **Possible Duplicate:** > [Xperia handset - cannot send files using bluetooth](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/4826/xperia-handset-cannot-send-files-using-bluetooth) My friend has a Sony Ericsson Xperia (most probably X8) handset which is an Android based smartphone. He is not able to send files through bluetooth but able to receive. I don't exactly remember the version of Android which he is currently having. He has tried to download and install the required update using the same phone (he has internet connected) from http://www.sonyericsson.com but not able to install it. So, he asked me to help him. Which version of Android do you think he has? Does it seem like he does not have Android 2.1 installed. It is written here (click on Xperia X8) that > If your phone already has Android 2.1, > you can use your mobile network* or a > WiFi connection to download the > software. Is it possible that he does not have updated Android and so not able to download? If so, does he need to upgrade to Android 2.1 first? Should it be done by connecting it to a PC?
