If I choose phone, is there an easy way that I can move or copy that contact to Google (so it shows up in Gmail, for example) at some later time? The edit menu for contacts shows options for _Edit_, _Delete_, _Link contact_, _Mark as default_, _Send namecard via_ and _Copy to SIM_.

How do you fix your tablet if Google Play Services is stopping
How do you keep Google Play Services from stopping or get it to start back up? It has deleted all my apps and is now telling me every time I try to download that I don't have enough space. What do I do?

When you are entering text field entries on Android, you get the soft keyboard on my Samsung Galaxy S. In the lower left corner there is the key that switches between the alphabetic characters and the keyboard with punctuations and digits (and smileys and so on). Now if you have to enter a large number, this is a bit tricky - because the numeric keypad's keys are much bigger, it's much easier to enter numbers and digits. Therefore, I was wondering if there is a way I haven't discovered , yet , to somehow **switch to the numeric keypad, even when entering text entries**.

I am using an Xperia X10 mini pro (Android 2.1-update1). I rooted the phone and partitioned the 8GB SD Card into two parts. 1. ext3 2. FAT32. I installed Link2SD to move the apps to SD Card. This has been very useful as this application has an option to move the installed/updated apps to SD Card automatically. But recently it happened to remove my SD Card from phone and inserted another 2GB SD Card for some other purpose. I started the phone and the apps that are showing on phone aren't working as I installed them on my SD card. So I put my 8 GB Micro SD card back to phone. Now the problem arose. I was not able to access the apps installed on SD Card. I had to reinstall all the apps that are there in my phone. Is it how it behaves ? Don't I remove my SD card from phone ? I did a little amount of Experimenting on this and found that its happening only on inserting another SD Card. My mobile is searching for the apps on the newly inserted SD Card. As there are no apps found it might be deleting the links on phone memory. This is my guess only. Still the question stays "How to overcome this kind of scenario ?"

I have a very old samsung phone (Galaxy Ace) which runs Android Eclair. Surprisingly, Google Play and other apps still work and connect to the Internet, but there's a few problems. I had to hard reset it a few times, and all the apps I had were removed. Until last year or so, most of the apps were still compatible with my phone, but now they just can't be installed (they require a later version of Android I suppose, since it says "your device isn't compatible with this version"). So what I'm trying to do is to install every single app from an APK file, which I would download from the Internet. The thing is, I waste a lot of time looking for the **latest supported version**. This means I don't want an older version, I want the exact last version that was compatible. iOS has this feature, if you previously "purchased" an app you can actually download the last compatible version, but I don't know how to do this on Android. Do I have to keep looking for the correct app version or can I get the last compatible version?

I have setup three alarms on my HTC Desire (running standard 2.1 with Sense). 1. Mo, Tu, We, Fr @ 05:45 2. Th @ 05:30 3. Sa @ 07:00 They are set as repeating alarms and the phone displays the little clock symbol in the top right corner indicating that an alarm is active. I have been running the phone with DeskClock activated each night and this also says that there is an alarm active for 05:45 the next morning. However I have watched it (with it not working for some strange and bizarre reason I am waking up before the alarm goes off) and at the time the alarm is set for nothing happens. Can anyone shed some light on this? My wife has a HTC Hero that is also running 2.1 and her's appears to be working correctly. I also have ATK that is running and is set to auto-kill running applications and I have been wondering if this is the cause, however this does not kill the DeskClock app that is running so I am not sure if it is relevant.

I've got a device (HTC Magic) with Android 2.1 (rooted, with CyanogenMod). It has Google Market app v2.23.6 - pretty old. I wonder, what's the latest version of Play that runs on Android 2.1? In the past, this device once had trouble with updating the Market. I wonder if this is the same trouble all over again, or Market 2.23.6 is the latest I'm going to ever get? EDIT: more about upgrading Market to Play [here](http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28073772) . The app still calls itself Market, not Play. This might be relevant; probably Market->Play transition changes the package ID or something.

I have a very old version of Tasker I use to create apps for an e-ink reader running Android 2.1 (Eclair). After a recent (security) update to the OS, I found I could not install Tasker unless I resigned it. This worked OK except that apps which function as plugins would not work in tasks (although they do work if the tasks are compiled as apps with App Factory). This makes debugging very tiresome. I've tried resigning the apps used a plugins with the same key to no effect. Based on my reading this might be an issue with "shared user ID", but I don't know where to go from here to see if there might be a "fix".

Copy messages from my old phone
How can I transfer my SMS and MMS messages from my old phone to my new phone? My old phone uses Android 2.1 and it seems that you currently need at least Android 2.2 to log in to a Google account. Therefore, I can't use any tools which require a Google account, such as Android Market/Google Play.

My nook simple touch has been bricked by a tool designed to wipe all partitions that I found on a deep google search. I can still boot up into CWM and attempted to use the backup to restore my nook to previous conditions. Its obviously a vain attempt at this point to try anything else as I was capable to mount my internal nook partitions onto my ancient laptop. The nook's partitions show up as unallocated on gparted.

I can establish a VPN connection to the laptop from the phone however I can't ping it or access a simple HTTP service running on 8081. Windows Firewall doesn't seem to be the issue as it doesn't work with it turned off either. It makes no difference if I use my house Wifi or disable that on the phone and connect via the phone's broadband connection. I notice via IPCONFIG on the laptop that the subnet for the phone's RAS connection is 255.255.255.255 whereas the network is 255.255.255.0 - could this be a problem?

Even the Facebook app which is already downloaded to the phone is also not working. Is this problem because of Market is not upgraded to Google Play? Why is my mobile is not upgrading Market to Google play? How can I upgrade it? On Google I got following steps to upgrade Market App but not able to do 3rd step. Follow these steps to upgrade it manually on your Android device: 1. Go in to Settings in your Android device and then Apps. 2. Look for Market under the "All" tab and then press clear data. 3. Now open the newly updated Play Music app (Google Music). (This step not found) 4. Hit that little Market icon in the bottom tray. 5. Confirm Google Play upgrade.

I used to be able to do 'Menu > Wallpaper' and be prompted for either the phone or lock screen, but now this stage doesn't appear and I'm taken straight to the 'Select wallpaper from' screen. I'm looking for a way to get the lock/home screeen prompt back or failing that, possibly the location where the active wallpaper is stored in the file system if that would work, or an app that would let me change the lock screen wallpaper directly. (No luck with Google.) I'm using an Orange San Francisco (ZTE Blade) running Android 2.1.1 *Edit*: and Launcher Pro.

On my Samsung Galaxy S Android phone: if I start a couple of apps, I can get an overview of them in the 'Active applications' icon on my first screen. Clicking this icon, shows me all active applications but allows me only to end them. I find no way to activate them. Pressing the center touchpath at the bottom displays the last 6 clicked icons - which may or may not be the ones running. F.i. if I start 6 applications, I see these 6 icons, if I start a 7th one I see the last 6 started. I wont see the first icon again . So how can I activate this first one, other than knowing it is running, and tapping it's icon again ? Please don't start telling me why I should start 6 or more applications. That's not the point, here , of course :) ANSWER: **You can't** - at least not by using the system as it is installed. A well, no big deal, really. Just wanted to see if I was missing something here. Coming from a Windows background (*and aren't we all because otherwise we should be holding an iPhone now*), this did not seem to illogical. Thanks for all answers.
