I notice that when Chrome doesn't have the focus for a few minutes, it pauses the upload. I have to switch back to Chrome so that it continues the upload. However, I have other things to do on my phone outside Chrome. How can I configure Android so that when Chrome doesn't stop uploading when it doesn't have the focus?

I have installed tools to help me limit the time I spend on certain activities on my smartphone and on my laptop, but now I'm looking for a tool to do this with Instagram reels in particular. Is there a way to block Instagram reels completely on the Instagram app on my Android phone?

I almost never take any close up pictures with my Galaxy Nexus (and when I do, it'd be more convenient to manually switch into some kind of macro mode). How do I stop the auto-focus from trying all possible focus positions every time I take a picture? Such behaviour makes me lose all the good moments that I want to capture in the first place (due to a focus delay of about 3 to 5 seconds), and often results with pictures being taken out-of-focus, especially at night or through a windscreen or something. Is there a way to disable such bogus autofocus?

I want to use an external keyboard to navigate the quick settings menu blind to turn on Screen mirroring (aka Smart View). I can enter this menu using Win-Q but getting a known focus or selecting Smart View is the next step. A Samsung Galaxy S6 is fully operational except it has a black screen (dropped by the kids). External mouse and keyboard are working fine and if I can just press the smart view icon on the Quick Settings the screen will mirror and I'll have full control. I am testing using the keyboard on my own identical phone so I can do it blind on the affected phone. Most usefully, Win-Q directly opens Quick Settings. Also of interest is Win-N which gives a visually identical result but with a different focus (somewhere in the notifications obvs). But, after pressing Win-Q focus seems to be a bit random. Sometimes it's under the screen brightness, sometimes it's the Settings icon itself. Direction arrows work fine to navigate, as does tab. Typing alpha (W for Wi-Fi) unfortunately seems to not move focus (wouldn't that be perfect). For the purposes of working blind I'd like to know where focus is absolutely, even if it's just a starting point. Is there a keyboard input I can use after Win-Q to either: - ideally, select the Smart View icon, or the Smart View text. Is there way to type "S" to do this? or - less ideally but still useful, set focus to, say, the top left icon (wireless on this phone)? Or is there some previous action such that pressing Win-Q gives a known focus (such as power cycling the phone)? Unavailable alternatives: - debugging is not enabled - MHL is in theory not supported by the phone; I don't have a cable to try it

I am trying to run 2 apps in split screen with both staying active at the same time. Most results on google are saying this is not possible and they blame the app for it not working. Below is some detailed testing I have done. This is an android issue/setting, not an app issue. The reason I know this is because I have 2 phones both using split screen. One can/will/does keep *both* apps active at the same time while one pauses whichever one is not in focus. The apps are identical across both phones. - **Apps for testing:** Pokemon Go (Pogo) + Jurassic World Alive (JWA) (both AR games that use GPS and real time location constantly). - **Phones for testing**: Moto X4 and Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus (I have previously tested on the Axon 7 and the Nexus 4-5-6, both behave the same as the Moto X4 currently does). - **Android versions:** Redmi5 - Android 7.1.2 (MIUI 9.6.2.0) | Moto X4 - Android 8.1.0 - **One item of note:** On the Moto I had to enable developer mode and turn on 'Force activities to be resizable' before either app could be put into split screen. On the Redmi5 this was not needed as it was already enabled. - **Test method:** Open Pogo normally. Use the 'intents' (app switch) button and at top click the section titled "split screen" (both phones have slightly diff wording here). Drag Pogo up there and it takes up the top half of the screen. In the bottom section, select previously running JWA (or start it from home screen) and it will take up the bottom section of the screen. - **Wanted outcome (Redmi 5 Plus):** Top portion continues without pausing and bottom game loads and works without pausing. Both apps continue to run as if they were running in full screen and were active - **Unwanted outcome (Moto X4/Axon7/Nexus(4|5|6):** Top app freezes or pauses when you load the bottom app. To unpause it, click on it, but this pauses the bottom app. Whichever app was last clicked on is active. Since the apps I am using to test are identical across 3 of the phones I am testing (never tested JWA on the nexus phones) this cannot simply be an issue with the apps not supporting it. There has to be some setting that Xiaomi or MIUI enabled to allow this to work. Another note, I am not trying to get *only* these 2 apps working, but these are 2 I would like to have working and made for good test apps due to how they run. I realize my ask here may be unclear. *I want to know how to duplicate the functionality from the Redmi 5 Plus on my other devices (Moto X4, etc).* **'Duplicate' edit:** I do not feel like the question listed as duplicate answers mine other than "you cant", but obviously MIUI or Xiaomi did. Also that answer seems to point to some side effects I should be experiencing on my Redmi that I am not (apps not pausing when minimized/unfocused).

In camera apps, is "zoom" a digital zoom, or an optical zoom?

In at least one app (Vignette [see below]) "zoom" shrinks the picture down. The latter behavior -- along with surely-lacking mechanical lens focus mechanism -- suggests that all of these zooms are purely digital, and not optical. Vignette zoom crops the area down See Also: Can a Dream's camera really zoom from the camera app? [device-specific question]

In almost all Android devices, zoom is digital -- there just isn't a mechanism for changing the length of the barrel and gathering more info. So how is **focus** achieved? If you're not physically changing the lens properties, or extending the barrel length, you've only got dilation of the aperture as the last focus method. Which is mechanical. Unless you've got a fixed focus system -- which most android phones do not seem to have. The android-spec for the autoFocus() method isn't much help - although it says it must be supported by the hardware, although most phones seem to have it. So if it is hardware -- how? I'm not hearing any little motors whirring around in there.... And is there really even any room for a mechanism in these things? What is the difference between "Auto focus" and "Macro" modes of focus?
In Samsung Android phones, I've seen two options for selecting the focus mode which are Auto focus and Macro modes in the Camera settings. So, just want to know what is the difference between them? How it affects the output/result of image captured?

The http://www.android.com/about/ice-cream-sandwich/ page details that Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" introduced two interesting features for Camera: **"continuous focus"** and **"zero shutter lag exposure"**. Have both of these features been removed or disabled post 4.0? My Galaxy Nexus seems to have neither since the 4.1 and 4.2 over-the-air upgrades. Holding a 4.2 Galaxy Nexus still and taking a picture with auto settings and without flash in a relatively-very-well-lit nightclub takes about 3 seconds, and taking another picture right away takes another 3 seconds, seemingly indicating that both features are completely absent in stock 4.2.

After upgrading to new Android version (Ice Cream Sandwich) my camera cannot focus. All the pictures made by my phone are blurry (not focused). I tried to reset camera settings to default, I tried clearing apps data (of my camera), I installed another camera application - nothing helped. Interesting is, that the camera can focus on objects, that are relatively close (50 cm) but object that are further are blurry. My front-camera works fine (the one on the display side) Any ideas? Thanks
