I’m running Fedora 42 installed on an external NVMe (2TB) drive connected to my MacBook Pro (Early 2015). My system setup is as follows: CPU: Intel i7 (Broadwell, MacBook Pro) Graphics: Intel Iris 6100 Fedora Version: Fedora 42 (Workstation) Display Adapter: JUA365 - USB™ 3.0 to Dual HDMI™ Multi-Monitor Adapter (DisplayLink based) DisplayLink Driver: Installed EVDI module: Loaded Secure Boot: Disabled DisplayLink service: Running fine Everything seems installed properly — but the external monitor still doesn’t turn on or get detected. I've tried: Manually restarting displaylink-driver.service Reinstalling EVDI via DKMS Reconnecting and powering monitor Verified logs (journalctl) — no clear errors I’m wondering if anyone using JUA365 or similar DisplayLink adapters has encountered and solved this issue on Fedora 41/42? Is there a known issue with DisplayLink adapters (like JUA365) on Fedora 42? Could this be a missing udev rule or a permissions/device node creation issue? Anyone using a similar setup successfully? Any tips, logs to check, or workarounds would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I have a "ThinkPad Universal USB-C Dock" (Link to German Lenovo page ) that works reasonably well with a DELL 5560: Monitors via Displayport, Ethernet, USB, fwupd all work. The DELL is running Debian 12 (Bookworm). I didn't have to install anything, just plug an d play. Now I wanted to attach the ThinkPad Docking Station to my ThinkPad T570 and was quite astonished that almost nothing works: No monitors are recognized at all, Ethernet says "no link", fwupd doesn't list the device. The t570 is also running Debian, only 13/Trixie. I had a look at the bis settings for thunderbolt: It is enabled, Security is set to "No Security". Please note: it's NOT the "ThinkPad Hybrid USB-C Dock mit USB A" station, where there are already some posts here. And I don't think it's related to DisplayLink, because I didn't have to install anything related on the DELL (also nothing related was already installed). How can I bring the ThinkPad Dock to work with the T570?

The setup - T460 thinkpad (Intel HD Graphics) docked with lid closed connected to two external monitors one via DVI and the other via HDMI The problem - During boot, up until the login screen both monitors work fine. But as soon as I sign in the monitor connected with the DVI will go blank about 80% of the time. My workaround solutions to fix this problem - Going back to the login screen via CTRL + ALT + BACKSPACE and signing in again will almost always fix it. - Physically removing/reinserting the cable will almost always fix it. Behavior - When logging in and experiencing the problem, the monitor seems to be recognized as I can move my mouse into its resolution, but the monitor claims cable not connected. When did the problem occur? - After moving and going from three to two monitors as well as reinstalling Linux Mint for luks encryption I'm pretty green when it comes to diagnosing graphical problem. I would be happy to paste logs, but I'm not sure which ones would be helpful. Please let me know which logs might be worth taking a look at, or any other suggestions you may have! ----- Edits/ Additional Info ----- The issue is isolated with Linux as this machine can dual boot into windows without the described problem $ lspci -k | grep -EA3 'VGA' 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Skylake GT2 [HD Graphics 520] (rev 07) Subsystem: Lenovo Skylake GT2 [HD Graphics 520] Kernel driver in use: i915 Kernel modules: i915 | $ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep -i driver [ 105.041] X.Org Video Driver: 23.0 [ 105.041] X.Org XInput driver : 24.1 [ 105.062] (==) Matched modesetting as autoconfigured driver 0 [ 105.062] (==) Matched fbdev as autoconfigured driver 1 [ 105.062] (==) Matched vesa as autoconfigured driver 2 [ 105.062] (==) Assigned the driver to the xf86ConfigLayout [ 105.062] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/modesetting_drv.so [ 105.063] Module class: X.Org Video Driver [ 105.063] ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 23.0 [ 105.063] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/fbdev_drv.so [ 105.063] Module class: X.Org Video Driver [ 105.063] ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 23.0 [ 105.063] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/vesa_drv.so [ 105.063] Module class: X.Org Video Driver [ 105.063] ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 23.0 [ 105.063] (II) modesetting: Driver for Modesetting Kernel Drivers: kms [ 105.063] (II) FBDEV: driver for framebuffer: fbdev [ 105.063] (II) VESA: driver for VESA chipsets: vesa [ 105.079] ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 23.0 [ 105.087] (II) glamor: OpenGL accelerated X.org driver based. In some of my scripts I need to know if my Thinkpad is docked or not. So far I'm just checking if any of the peripherals attached to the docking station can be found. For example I use xrandr or get-edid to get the list of attached monitors and understand if the laptop is docked. However I see in the syslog that the kernel can see the docking event but I don't want to parse syslog looking for "docking something". Do you know some smart way to check from bash if the laptop is docked without relying on the attached peripherals? It would be cool if I could **both** catch the docking/undocking event when it happens **and** check the docking status at any time.

I am using Fedora 38 on Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 4. Kernel version is 6.3.11. It seems that my Thunderbolt 4 ports are powered on, but whatever I plug to them I get no output. Is there any way to verify that this is due to hardware or lack of support in the operating system? ### More background The port used to work, which is why I am suspecting a hardware failure. I used to connect Lenovo dock to it, but one day it just stopped working. Here are some commands I used to check the port is still seen by the OS:
boltctl list -a

The dock is the only T4 device I have and I get a blank output from boltctl list if I plug it in. I also tried plugging a standard USB-C pendrive and that doesn’t get detected either. Running journalctl -u bolt gives me:

Please let me know if you have any suggestions of what else can I run to investigate the problem.

- Laptop is ThinkPad P14s Gen 1 (AMD) with dedicated GPU - Docking station: 40AJ (port colors don't match the ones in the picture, but should be [this one](https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/uu/en/solutions/pd500173)) - Two identical screens are connected via DP - no desktop environment, [i3](https://i3wm.org/) window manager --- Issues started right from the start ~2 years ago (~beginning of 2021): - computer couldn't be suspended, as at resume the screens wouldn't connect - computer couldn't be detached & re-attached from the docking station for same reason - if screens where to switch off due to power saving, then more often than not they wouldn't connect properly when they were woken up - if you'd let screens switch off by power saver and then wait through the endless flickering on wake-up in hopes they'd reconnect, it usually ended up in a crash - likely the gpu drivers Thus far I've avoided these issues by not suspending, not detaching from docking station, and instead of allowing screens to go to power saving mode, I'd switch them off via the physical pwr button -- for some reason this didn't cause the problems on eventual wake-up. Past week or two (~beginning of 2023), however, the problems have gotten worse: - screens hardly connect on startup (didn't use to be an issue) - if they do connect, then oftentimes the second screen mirrors the first - the workaround by switching screens off via the pwr button no longer works - screens fail to connect on wake-up. ---

Why can’t Linux drive 2 monitors 2560x1440 with this Dell USB-C dock as Windows can?

So far I've been using Windows 10 Lenovo T590 with Dell USB-C docking station supporting 2 screens each of 2K resolution (2560x1440) without any issue at all. After I decided to migrate to Ubuntu Linux, Dell USB-C docking station appeared to not supporting any of these screens on Linux. Then I handled to get different docking station of the same brand that laptop is and now ONLY ONE screen could be set to it's native resolution. Second one is detected but is not able to generate any output unless, I set both monitors on lower resolution (1920x1080) then both of them are working but as you can guess, it's not the best way, seeing not sharp picture. I am wondering, assuming that Windows 10 was able to handle both of 2K screens, where is the bottleneck in my setup? The docking station, or GPU driver, or something else? Is there any way to reduce Hz frequency to get less usage of bandwidth (using xrandr tool for example) , but having these 2 screen on their native resolution? lspci reports my card as:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation WhiskeyLake-U GT2 [UHD Graphics 620] (rev 02)

Ideally the video outputs would show up as DP-2-{1,2,3} and not just DP-2. It does this with other usb-C docks with multiple video outputs. Any pointers? Hoping I won't have to end up figuring out how to write a driver for this..

I've got a Wavlink WL-UMD502 usb-c docking station connected to a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port (USB-C) with an Ubuntu 22.04 5.15.0.56-generic kernel. I installed the device driver for the Wavlink docking station and followed the Readme.txt commands specific for Ubuntu which was: sudo depmod -a sudo update-initramfs -u Followed by a few reboots. Ethernet, Keyboard, and Mouse all go through the dock. I also tried to load the kernel module generated by the Makefile for the WL-UMD502 driver by doing: sudo modprobe rl8152.ko with the following output from *sudo dmesg* [ 4568.381336] usbcore: registered new interface driver r8152 I've also tried loading the *typec_displayport.ko* kernel module located in */lib/modules/5.15.0-56-generic/kernel/drivers/usb/typec/altmodes* but that's clearly for displayport support only. That being said, I have a sneaking suspicion that the type-c port on my laptop only supports DisplayPort format and not HDMI which is what the docking station and external monitors are. Although I am curious if grabbing an older kernel module for type-c might work because some threads I've found seem to show working type-c video output for Ubuntu 20.04 I don't have an alternate mode HDMI to USB-C adapter at this time so I can't test the port itself. Any thoughts? More information needed? A lot of people use Dell or HP docks lately. I haven't seen any questions related to Wavlink.

The laptop display outputs correctly to the monitors. I inserted the plug of a USB keyboard and mouse into the dock, but the laptop didn't detect them. I plugged an Ethernet cable into the dock, but the laptop did not detect that either. What must I do to make the laptop detect the keyboard, mouse and Ethernet cable that are plugged into the WD15?

How may I persistently change mouse sensitivity with x11 and changing docks/mice?
Using an x11-based window system, is there a way to change my mouse sensitivity that will persist through changes of mice (via changing the dock location/peripherals)?

With Displayport from dock, video signal works but usb-c for inputs don't.(I configured the KVM). Then I bought and tried with an adapter DisplayPort(dock) to usb-c(monitor DP Alt Mode), the result was the same as in the previous case. Y tried to activate typec_displayport kernel module unsuccessfully. Any idea how I can make it work? Thanks.

DisplayLink drivers have been installed from https://github.com/displaylink-rpm/displaylink-rpm . I'm new to linux. Every solution I've found online involved updating to drivers, modes, or kernels that I seem to already be using. Any advice on a how to get the monitors detected would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running Debian Buster on my Thinkpad T480 (link to manufacturer) $ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Debian Description: Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) Release: 10 Codename: buster I got from my office a Thinkpad docking station for my wokring computer, but would also like to use it for my Linux one (private computer). It is the following Docking station: Lenovo USB-C Hybrid Dock 135W. I searched around and tried to disable secure boot in the Thunderbolt BIOS setup. However, it still doesn't recognize my external monitors, nor USB devices. It gets charged at least. Does someone know how to make it run on Debian? I've set the Thunderbold to No Securityin the Bios, without any success. enter image description here

Yesterday I have turned on my laptop and found out that I get no sound from my soundcard. The symptoms of the problem are: * KDE shows the device as normal, even the sound level indicator goes up and down while playing music * Every application sees this device as normal * I can control the volume as same as before, but no sound * The sound works just fine on the other soundcards What I have tried * All the classics: Replugging the jack * Reseating the soundcard (since it’s a part of a USB-C docking station) * Restarting the pulseaudio * Rebooting the whole laptop * Playing sound from another OS (on Windows 10 worked without problems) If you guys have any idea what might cause this, I would strongly appreciate any kind of response as same as I can provide any additional logs of my system. KDE 5.21.5 on Manjaro 21.0.7 One thing I have noticed is that in alsamixer I only seem to have capture and not playback like it is on the screenshot, I hope it will help Alsamixer screenshot

Occasionally when I plug my Dell USB-C docking station into my laptop running Manjaro, the system immediately freezes completely and requires a hard reboot. Other times, my external screens don't get detected until I unplug and replug the docking station. Keyboard and mouse always work though. I've had these issues for quite some time and it's not just limited to Manjaro, I've had it with Ubuntu as well (both running KDE Plasma). I'm running this on a brand new Dell XPS 13 laptop and experienced the same issues on a previous model. Where do you typically look to start debugging issues like this? Which log files and/or tools would you use?

I am using a Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th Gen with a USB-C Gen 2 Docking Station. When I am not using TLP the docking station is charging my Thinkpad just fine. Also all peripherals work as expected. As soon as I enable TLP and unplug and replug the thunderbolt 3 cable, it won't charge anymore. Though the Thinkpad is still receiving power, because it does not use any power (0.0W) and it all peripherals still work as expected. So I guess it must be a TLP setting, or deeper on kernel level. I have a Dell Latitude E7450 running Linux Mint running Mate and I'm using a Dell E-Port II (Model PRO3X) docking station. I'm connecting two external monitors, one via DVI and the other using Display Port, for a total of three displays. I can't get the external monitors to be independent and they are mirroring each other. I have no issues with the laptop's display itself. I've tried the proprietary driver and that didn't seem to help. In Windows 7 there is no problem. This is the output of xrandr, which shows the dvi and displayport as "DP1", regardless if one or both are plugged in. I can't get all three to show up when using the docking station.
