Linux - Debian uname -a >> output Linux HomeLT 4.19.0-6-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.67-2+deb10u2 (2019-11-11) x86_64 GNU/Linux I have a ASUS TUF FX504 GM. It has a Intel i7 8750H and a GTX 1060 The problem is .. I can't use the external monitor I would plug into the HDMI port, by default. The Intel iGPU, UHD 630 is the default one that gets used unless I use this config file as specified in the following guide.. I have the "nvidia-driver" package installed. http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/375.26/README/randr14.html /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia.conf Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "layout" Screen 0 "nvidia" Inactive "intel" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "nvidia" Driver "nvidia" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "nvidia" Device "nvidia" Option "AllowEmptyInitialConfiguration" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "intel" Driver "modesetting" BusID "PCI:0:2:0" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "intel" Device "intel" EndSection Is there anyway to change this file to make it so that the computer books on the intel screen.. but also keeps the nvidia drivers "inactive" so that both monitors show up when I run the command "xrandr --auto" I tried putting Screen 0 "intel" Inactive "nvidia" But that doesn't work. Tried Screen 0 "intel" Screen 1 "nvidia " without the inactive line. That didn't quite work either. I also have to run xrandr --setprovideroutputsource modesetting NVIDIA-0 xrandr --auto after start up. Can anyone help? I'm using a laptop in which I have both an NVIDIA graphic card and the Intel integrated one. Before I updated the NVIDIA driver through Linux Mint update manager, I used to have them both configured using NVIDIA settings and NVIDIA Prime. After the update the driver manager marks the NVIDIA driver as installed, but the Intel graphic card has the following sentence written below "This device is not working" and the only option possible is "Do not use this device". Both xserver-xorg-video-intel, mesa-utils and nvidia-settings are still installed (I've also tried to reinstall them) and I have SeureBoot disabled. When I try to run nvidia-settings it return an empty page and the following error is displayed: ERROR: NVIDIA driver is not loaded ERROR: Unable to load info from any available system How can I fix this situation? Thanks! This is the output from lspci -nnk | grep "VGA\|'Kern'\|3D\|Display" -A2 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller : Intel Corporation Device [8086:3e9b] Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. I thought moving to another distro would help but nope, HDMI still does not work with debian 11. My best lead a post telling me to update my graphics driver but I don't know how to do that safely. Is this what I should do or is there an easier solution? I see that alot of people have asked the same question and I'm sorry to pile on to that but I don't really know what to do honestly. (No it is not the HDMI cable nor is it any combination of plugging the cable in and restarting the computer)

I have a hp laptop 15s fq as my main pc and from the moment I started using it, I had many problems. Im asking here because sadly I had no luck on zorin forums and I was wondering if there is something I can do Firstly, I have a intel i5 and an intel irisxe gpu and from the moment I installed zorin on it, I was immediately met with tiny scaling on 1920x1080 and it wasnt usable. So my only solution was fractional scaling to 125% witch worked fine until I was met with screen tearing on xorg. Wayland was a temporary fix as x11 apps on wayland where blurry A guy at hp community told me to edit graphics configuration like this
Section "Device"

    Identifier "Intel Graphics"

    Driver "intel"

    Option "TearFree" "true"

    Option "AccelMethod" "sna"

    Option "DRI" "3"

    Option "TripleBuffer" "true" EndSection
But this only made it worse because it froze x11 and I had to force reboot Secondly, I started having severe slowdown and distorted audio while I was charging or doing things like playing some lightweight discord games which I didn't expect to do this... Sometimes audio gets distorted for now reason at all. As a dev having such slowdown while using many windows open it is bad...Its like my keyboard has a delay.. Other times it just doesn't have problems at all *when its mostly not charging. I have to note that I have a nvme ssd and ddr16gb ram so I don't really understand the reason it does that Can anyone help?

As you can see the built-in laptop screen is the first entry at card1-eDP-1. All good with that. The external monitor is on card1-DP-3 and has two edid blocks. Both OSes only seem to see the first block as it contains the 60Hz setting only. However, the second block contains the correct 75Hz setting. DTD 4 to be precise. **How can I make Manjaro use this setting?** I'm on Wayland if it matters, but the issue is there with X as well. @editor: As this happens in Arch as well (had that previously installed), I'm changing the tags to just "linux". I assume the issue is distro-independent and probably an issue with the Intel provided driver which could explain the behaviour in both, Windows and Linux, as it is open source afaik.

I'm not sure what the next step for debugging this would be. I've never used the DisplayPort before, so it may well be an issue with the Intel Drivers. EDIT: To clarify my ports. HDMI1 is my actual HDMI port, HDMI2 is my DVI port, HDMI3 appears to be a clone of DP1, which is my DisplayPort. HDMI1 and HDMI2 work fine, but both DP1 and HDMI3 always show disconnected.

I have a thin PC equipped with a Core i7-8550U on which I am running Debian 10 Buster. The board uses Intel HD Graphics 620 and has a HDMI and a Display Port on board. No external graphics card. This board claims it can support up to 3 monitors. I have one monitor (supporting only VGA and HDMI inputs) connected to the HDMI port which is perfectly fine. Since my monitor doesn't support DisplayPort, I purchased a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. But I simply cannot get the second monitor recognized. I read someplace that the problem may be with the adapter being passive and I bought a second (supposedly) active adapter. I honestly have no way of telling if either of them are really active or passive. I'm just going by what the product claimed on amazon. I have tried numerous things. I can't even recollect anymore the things I've tried or what driver state my machine is currently at. Some things tried are - with and without xserver-xorg-video-intel - buster-backports firmware-misc-nonfree linux-image-amd64 firmware-linux firmware-linux-nonfree - buster-backports xserver-xorg-video-intel One other thing that I tried and failed at completely was drivers from ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers. Install wouldn't work because the repo was not PGP signed. I really did not put any more effort is fixing that issue. No luck. The setup - T460 thinkpad (Intel HD Graphics) docked with lid closed connected to two external monitors one via DVI and the other via HDMI The problem - During boot, up until the login screen both monitors work fine. But as soon as I sign in the monitor connected with the DVI will go blank about 80% of the time. My workaround solutions to fix this problem - Going back to the login screen via CTRL + ALT + BACKSPACE and signing in again will almost always fix it. - Physically removing/reinserting the cable will almost always fix it. Behavior - When logging in and experiencing the problem, the monitor seems to be recognized as I can move my mouse into its resolution, but the monitor claims cable not connected. When did the problem occur? - After moving and going from three to two monitors as well as reinstalling Linux Mint for luks encryption I'm pretty green when it comes to diagnosing graphical problem. I would be happy to paste logs, but I'm not sure which ones would be helpful. Please let me know which logs might be worth taking a look at, or any other suggestions you may have! ----- Edits/ Additional Info ----- The issue is isolated with Linux as this machine can dual boot into windows without the described problem $ lspci -k | grep -EA3 'VGA' 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Skylake GT2 [HD Graphics 520] (rev 07) Subsystem: Lenovo Skylake GT2 [HD Graphics 520] Kernel driver in use: i915 Kernel modules: i915 | $ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep -i driver [ 105.041] X.Org Video Driver: 23.0 [ 105.041] X.Org XInput driver : 24.1 [ 105.062] (==) Matched modesetting as autoconfigured driver 0 [ 105.062] (==) Matched fbdev as autoconfigured driver 1 [ 105.062] (==) Matched vesa as autoconfigured driver 2 [ 105.062] (==) Assigned the driver to the xf86ConfigLayout [ 105.062] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/modesetting_drv.so [ 105.063] Module class: X.Org Video Driver [ 105.063] ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 23.0 [ 105.063] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/fbdev_drv.so [ 105.063] Module class: X.Org Video Driver [ 105.063] ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 23.0 [ 105.063] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/vesa_drv.so [ 105.063] Module class: X.Org Video Driver [ 105.063] ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 23.0 [ 105.063] (II) modesetting: Driver for Modesetting Kernel Drivers: kms [ 105.063] (II) FBDEV: driver for framebuffer: fbdev [ 105.063] (II) VESA: driver for VESA chipsets: vesa [ 105.079] ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 23.0 [ 105.087] (II) glamor: OpenGL accelerated X.org driver based. Recently I've bought a [GA-Z87-HD3 motherboard](http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4489#sp) and a [GTX 660 graphics card](http://www.nvidia.it/object/geforce-gtx-770-it.html) . Now I have two monitors, the first that I'm using is attached to the DVI port of the Nvidia graphic card, the second one is attached on the VGA port of the embedded graphic card of the motherboard. Since I would like to play a little with Blender, I need to use two monitors at the same time because in this way I can watch better more video tutorials at the same time. I'm using Debian wheezy: #uname -a Linux ziomario-Z87-HD3 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.60-1+deb7u1 x86_64 GNU/Linux # lspci -nn | grep VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller : Intel Corporation Haswell Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0412] (rev 06) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller : NVIDIA Corporation Device [10de:11c0] (rev a1) So please can someone help me to use my two monitors together?

How to set display refresh rate to 120Hz via HDMI?

What I'm doing: cvt 1920 1080 120 Which prints: # 1920x1080 119.93 Hz (CVT) hsync: 139.12 kHz; pclk: 369.50 MHz Modeline "1920x1080_120.00" 369.50 1920 2080 2288 2656 1080 1083 1088 1160 -hsync +vsync Then: xrandr --newmode "1920x1080_120.00" 369.50 1920 2080 2288 2656 1080 1083 1088 1160 -hsync +vsync And: xrandr --addmode HDMI1 1920x1080_120.00 Finally, when I try to set this custom refresh rate (via Xfce Display app), nothing happens; it goes back to the previous refresh rate. I did the same process with 90 Hz and it worked, but that's the maximum I could go. I'm having a laptop with i5-10210U, using it as a server-station. I am trying to passthrough the integrated Graphics Card to a VM using QEMU with this command, modified by fallowing this tutorial : virt-install --name windows11 --ram=8192 --vcpus=8 --machine q35 \ --device vfio-pci,host=00:02.0 --cpu host --hvm --disk path=w11vml,size=80 \ -object input-linux,id=kbd,evdev=/dev/input/by-path/platform-i8042-serio-0-event-kbd --cdrom W11.iso --graphics vnc,port=5901,listen=0.0.0.0,passwd='123456' response: virt-install: error: unrecognized arguments: --device vfio-pci,host=00:02.0 [alongside with -object input-linux] My problem is that I don't know how to translate the qemu-system-x86_64 arguments to virt-install after running the detaching script disabling the GPU on host, which would be: sudo qemu-system-x86_64 -machine q35 -m 2G -accel kvm -cpu host \ -device vfio-pci,host=00:02.0 -nographic -vga none \ -object input-linux,id=kbd,evdev=/dev/input/by-path/platform-i8042-serio-0-event-kbd \ -cdrom Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-29-1.2.iso Additional info: VT-d is enabled in BIOS, OS: AlmaLinux9 I know the args could be very wrong, especially with graphics vnc args one, as it needs to be forced to fallback to the integrated graphics, but any corrections would be very helpfull.. I'm new to this "business" :D

The question/hitches are about the : GPU / utilization. Back story: I installed Linux Mint 20.01 a while ago, and I enjoyed using it for the most part. It's a great distro for beginners. After a while I noticed high CPU usages The RAM seems to be reasonable/ Mostly the high CPU usage starts when I open a browser and scroll down webpage, mostly an article or news websites. The CPU usage starts to spike up to 50%+, then it sits at 30%/ Don't make me start on the browser Video encode/decoding Utilization. I tried to test it with other programs like Blender. Still the CPU utilization doesn't feel right, and it's slower rendering, moving around the canvas, Hover Animations has a noticeable delay on it On Windows 10: - the browser uses less CPU for browsing - blender **feels okay** for the most part - when i render the sense - moving around the canvas I know Linux & windows are totally different systems/OS/kernels, but I think handling hardware shouldn't matter that much on what OS you use they both should utilize my hardware correctly* The distro or the flavor doesn't matter for the most part, at least in my case. What I mean by that is I tried other distros to see if the CPU spikes might be fixed or I could get a better performance out of it, but unfortunately not. I tried: **Debian** : *Ubuntu (Kubuntu , Xubuntu , Ubuntu Mate ) , Mint-(ubuntu) , Pop!_OS ^nVida drivers 460* **Arch** : *Manjaro* I'm using (Arch) Manjaro` To solve the issue I tried:: I did a bit of research on this topic and I found out wiki arch post about browser hardware acceleration / || enable / setting up video encoding decoding. It did show that every thing is running fine but still didn't fix CPU Utilization issue - spiking the CPU. wiki arch instructed me to enable some futures on about:config on firefox. It did say it's enabled, but htop/glances says nothing has change in case of the still High CPU Usage - so i tried to install google chrome - on chrome://CPU most of the settings are truned off ( on linux ) so i went to chrome://flags and tired to enabled them it did indeed shows as enabled in chrome://GPU but with no effect at all - I think the issue isn't in the browser it self there's something else , please correct me if I'm wrong some articles say I should add graphic card ppa & update - that didn't work either - I know it's not recommended to do it, but I thought it might install new patches new version to fix my issue something, but it didn't. Just to let you know that all this time the GPU - graphics card driver is installed 460 NVidia from the driver manager. There was a bug on Linux mint 20.01 that when it switched to lower performance mode Nvidia control panel disappear and luckily there's a fix for that on Linux Mint community if I found the link I will put it here ![Link ][1] On Nvidia control panel I tried all the modes 'low performance', 'on demand', and 'high performance'. They all the same in terms of performance or CPU utilization I use htop and Glances to monitor CPU and RAM utilization. - I know htop shows 1 core percentage and that does not mean if that core running on 50% doesn't mean the over all CPU is 50%. - I have 4 cores. Each core load is 40% 40% 40% 40% = 39 - 40% overall = htop. - Glances tool shows you the overall CPU utilization. Hardware specs: Using ENVY laptop CPU: I7-6500U @ 2.50GHz GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M Integrated GPU: Intel HD graphics 520 RAM: 16GB Linux is installed on a 500GB HDD

On an Arch Linux machine with Intel integrated graphics and motherboard with two connectors (HDMI and VGA), I've noticed that after the system wakes up, xrandr shows both outputs as disconnected, even though the monitors seem to work as intended with the right resolutions. It was only upon using software which, I assume, takes screen information from xrandr, like lightdm or mpv, that I discovered the issue. After boot, xrandr -q gives the expected output (in this case, a single monitor connected via VGA):
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1366 x 768, maximum 16384 x 16384
HDMI-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-1 connected primary 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 410mm x 230mm
   1366x768 59.79*+
   1280x1024 75.02 60.02
   ...
   ...
   ...
After suspending and waking up, both outputs are disconnected:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1366 x 768, maximum 16384 x 16384
HDMI-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-1 disconnected primary 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm
  1366x768 (0x44) 85.500MHz +HSync +VSync
        h: width 1366 start 1436 end 1579 total 1792 skew 0 clock 47.71KHz
        v: height 768 start 771 end 774 total 798 clock 59.79Hz
If I try to change the mode at this point, the screen turns black. If I blindly write the output of xrandr -q to a file, it gives:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 320 x 200, maximum 16384 x 16384
HDMI-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-1 disconnected primary (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
What could be the root of the issue? Can someone explain what's happening with the second xrandr output above? I have already tried different screens and cables and the issue persists. Where do I continue troubleshooting?

My laptop has **HD4000** Intel GPU (i5-3320M). What GPU driver is most compatible for recent versions of **Xorg**/Linux? (for **non-3D** applications, such as Xorg) One page recommend crocus for anything up to Haswell, is this correct for laptop version of HD4000? What are all Xorg GPU drivers compatible with HD4000? How to determine what driver Xorg uses? I checked X.org.log, but there's a lot of info, not sure which line is relevant. lspci |grep "3rd Gen" |grep Graphi 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09) This question is more about Xorg drivers, I know kernel GPU driver is a different thing. Yes, there's a number of pages on inet, but often at the very end it usually says that everything above is outdated. Thank you.

I do have a laptop with an Intel/NVidia optimus graphics combo. I'm using "on-demand" mode using sudo prime-select on-demand. The attached LCD screen is a 32" offering up to 3840 x 2160 resolution. If using a screen scaling setting of 100% it as fast as working on the laptop's local LCD. However if I enable fractional scaling to e.g. 125% (which offers the best usability for me) graphics performance degrades significantly. I've used glxgears to record the frame rate for full screen mode: getting 60 fps for 100% scaling and only ~25 fps for 125% scaling. Any ideas how to fix this? some specs:
