Anyone knows how can I check/test my 2d acceleration? See if it's on/off and working correctly and as efficient as it should? I have SIS 771/671 on Zorin OS 8 Lite. I believe the resolution should be better (it's 1024x768 right now and it looks a bit stretched horizontaly I assume 1024x1800 could look fine) and I feel video could go more smoothly and also I see some horizontal lines on the screen when playing movies. So basically I think that the video driver is still not proper here. I found this instruction here at comment #230: sis drivers discussion I have a patch here : https://www.archlinux.org/packages/?name=xf86-video-sisimedia btw the patch is for 13.04 - will it also work or be needed for 13.10? Otherwise is there any other recommended lite distro on which SIS 771/671 could work fine and with acceleration ON?

Fingerprint reader on Asus Zenbook
So I have `ZorinOS` installed on my `ASUS ZenBook UX330UA-AH54`, however, `FingerprintGUI` shows my fingerprint sensor (`Elantech` I think) as an unknown device. Is there any custom software or fixes that can be used to get my laptop to pickup the `fingerprint sensor`?

I have a hp laptop 15s fq as my main pc and from the moment I started using it, I had many problems. Im asking here because sadly I had no luck on zorin forums and I was wondering if there is something I can do Firstly, I have a intel i5 and an intel irisxe gpu and from the moment I installed zorin on it, I was immediately met with tiny scaling on 1920x1080 and it wasnt usable. So my only solution was fractional scaling to 125% witch worked fine until I was met with screen tearing on xorg. Wayland was a temporary fix as x11 apps on wayland where blurry A guy at hp community told me to edit graphics configuration like this
Section "Device"

    Identifier  "Intel Graphics"

    Driver      "intel"

    Option      "TearFree" "true"

    Option      "AccelMethod" "sna"

    Option      "DRI" "3"

    Option      "TripleBuffer" "true" EndSection
But this only made it worse because it froze x11 and I had to force reboot Secondly, I started having severe slowdown and distorted audio while I was charging or doing things like playing some lightweight discord games which I didn't expect to do this... Sometimes audio gets distorted for now reason at all. As a dev having such slowdown while using many windows open it is bad...Its like my keyboard has a delay.. Other times it just doesn't have problems at all *when its mostly not charging. I have to note that I have a nvme ssd and ddr16gb ram so I don't really understand the reason it does that Can anyone help?

I recently installed Zorin OS on my Lenovo Yoga 2. I completely got rid of Windows and am not dual booting. I am now trying to get back to Windows 10. I created a Windows 10 USB drive, but I can't get the computer to boot from it. When I change the UEFI boot order, it still boots into Zorin, and when I go back to the UEFI, it has changed the boot order back. I also created another Zorin USB drive, thinking I would boot from it, then format the Zorin partition so it would have to boot from USB. Same thing, it just won't boot from USB. Is there a way to trigger booting from USB from within Zorin? If not, any ideas on how to get rid of Zorin some other way?

I had to install a dkms package to add ethernet support to my Zorin OS (which is Ubuntu 22.04 LTS based) running on an ASUS NUC 14 Essential mini PC . This worked fine for a while but after rebooting, the ethernet connection now started showing "Cable unplugged" in the Network Settings. Network Settings screenshot I've removed the cable and plugged it back in, both on the PC and the wall. I've tried the cable directly with another PC and it works fine, so I'm sure the cable is fine. lspci --nnk shows: 1:00.0 Ethernet controller : Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Diff between built and installed module!) realtek-r8125/9.015.00, 6.8.0-57-generic, amd64: installed It seems that rebooting has caused some setting to change that was previously working but I'm unsure what it is. I recall that I had to add a module key that had to be entered on the first time reboot after installing the driver, but I've not been asked for that subsequently. At this point, I'm beat. I have a nice working setup so I don't want to reinstall the OS from scratch unless absolutely necessary so any suggestions would be welcome. For now I'm using the wi-fi connection which works.

I'm running Zorin OS 12.2 (downloaded and installed in September 27th this year) on a *Dell XPS 13*. I installed Zorin instead of the pre-installed Windows 10 (I'm aware that Dell XPS ships with Ubuntu pre-installed, but the one I have was ordered bulk via my workplace). For the past six days the system has been unable to boot. I end up in BusyBox (*v1.22.1 (Ubuntu 1:1.22.0-15ubuntu1)*) with an initramfs prompt. In the BIOS it lists Windows Boot Manager (twice). I wonder if I did something wrong when I installed Zorin, as I thought I got completely rid of Windows. I suspect that the error (that causes me to end up in BusyBox) stems from me sometimes had to force-shut down my laptop because the screen would not turn on after the laptop had been folded together, or after I had accidentally pushed the power button (which just turns on the screen on my other laptop if it's been idle for a while and has turned off the screen). At least it appears that Zorin can't handle my laptop being treated like the hybrid PC it was built to be. This could have nothing to do with the problem, but the problem arose when I turned the computer on after (yet again) having had to force-shut down becuase I pressed the power button to turn the screen back on. I tried booting into Zorin with Linux 4.10.0-38 (and 37 and 33) via "Advanced options for Zorin GNU/Linux", instead of 4.10.0-40 which is listed first, but the same thing happens. I also tried booting 4.10.0-40 in recovery mode, but that doesn't make a difference either. I've tried running Boot Repair (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair) from the live USB. The output is located here: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/26155667/ . I tried following a bunch of suggestions from askubuntu and ubuntuforums: 1. https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1561735 2. https://askubuntu.com/questions/516217/alert-dev-disk-by-uuid-xxxxxxxxx-does-not-exist-dropping-to-a-shell - was unable to do this. See Screenshot. 3. https://askubuntu.com/questions/137655/boot-drops-to-a-initramfs-prompts-busybox 4. https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1018403 5. https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2112153 (Couldn't try out the suggestions from ahallubuntu since I can only see the live USB and not the laptop's drive when accessing via the live USB. Didn't try the other solutions as they all specifically talked about encrypted drives and I didn't encrypt my drive.) 6. https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=765195&page=33&p=6581939#post6581939 (via link from source 4) Writing "exit" as suggested in source 3, I get: Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems: - Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline) - Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?) - Check root= (did the system wait for the right device?) - Missing modules (cat /proc/modules: is /dev) ALERT! UUID=XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX does not exist. Dropping to a shell! When trying fsck /dev/sda1 (cf. source 3), I get the message: fsck from util-linux 2.27.1 fsck: error 2 (No such file or directory) while executing fsck.ext2 for dev/sda1 I also tried with sda2 which gave the same result. When trying Amith KK's suggestion in source 3, I get nothing with the first line: zorin@zoring:~$ sudo fdisk -l|grep Linux|grep -Ev 'swap' zorin@zoring:~$ uname -a (cf. source 4) gives me: Linux (none) 4.10.0-40-generic #44~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Thu Nov 9 15:37:44 UTC 2017 x86_64 GNU/Linux I tried the solution suggested by quixote in source 1, but it doesn't show me any files like he suggests it would: grub> ls (hd0) (hd0,gpt3) (hd0,gpt2) (hd0,gpt1) grub> ls (hd0,3) Partition hd0,3: Filesystem type ext* - Last modification time 2017-12-04 Monday, UUID XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX - Partition start at 8705024KiB - Total size 419690496KiB grub> ls (hd0,2) Partition hd0,2: No known filesystem detected - Partition start at 513024KiB - Total size 8192000KiB grub> ls (hd0,1) Partition hd0,1: Filesystem type fat, UUID YYYY-YYYY - Partition start at 1024KiB - Total size 512000KiB grub> ls (hd0) Device hd0: No known filesystem detected - Sector size 512B - Total size 500107608KiB I also tried using blkid as hhoyt suggests in source 1, but like with source 5 it doesn't look like it shows anything other than the live USB. I get: root@zorin:~# blkid /dev/loop0: TYPE="squashfs" /dev/sda1: UUID="ZZZZ-ZZ-ZZ-ZZ-ZZ-ZZ-ZZ" LABEL="Zorin OS 12.2 Core" TYPE="iso9660" PTUUID="239ad0b8" PTTYPE="dos" PARTUUID="239ad0b8-01" /dev/sda2: SEC_TYPE="msdos" UUID="398E-230F" TYPE="vfat" PARTUUID="239ad0b8-02" ... which looks very similar to the output I get from trying the solution in source 2. If I try sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt I get /dev/sda1 is already mounted or /mnt busy. Adding all_generic_ide to the kernel boot parameter, as suggested in source 6 (I didn't have a line starting with kernel but instead had a very similar one starting with Linux and tried that one), didn't help . Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong and how/if I could fix it? (e.g. from looking at the Boot Repair output at http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/26155667/) ?

Also a few very important business applications as the tabletop simulator for example are installed. Now I See that my 240GB SSD is already almost full. Using sudo baobab I can see that most space is taken Up by the /home/pc directory. But I can not analyze much further. I could imagine that rclone has something to do with my problem but I can't seem to get any more information. Here ist the result of the sudo baobab command: enter image description here Also using sudo du -h /home/pc | sort -hr | head did not give me any useful information about where the majority of my disk space has gone. enter image description here Now I would like to know what ist the exact problem and how to solve it (delete temporary Files (maybe created by rclone?)). Thanks in advance for any help. I am not very experienced in Linux systems so easy understandable answers are appreciated. Edit: Using the command ls -la /home/pc I am getting the following Output: enter image description here

I have installed Zorin OS Core 17 and I am trying some customisations on it. I want to set an image as background on taskbar. I tried few things but could not find a proper solution. Below are the things I tried: modifying CSS in /usr/share/themes/ZorinGreen-Dark/gnome-shell/gnome-shell.css
#panel {
        background-color: rgba(255, 0, 0, 1);
    }
It seems taskbar is denoted with #panel. I currently have Zorin Dark mode with green accent active. On adding this code to CSS file, the color of taskbar changed to red. But this does not seem to work when setting color to transparent, or setting background-image property:
#panel {
    background-image: url('file:///home/username/Pictures/background.jpg');
    background-size: cover; /* Makes the image cover the entire panel */
    background-position: center; /* Centers the image */
    background-repeat: no-repeat; /* Ensures the image does not repeat */
}
The above code made taskbar grey in color. I also tried setting background-color: transparent on top of this, but no effect.
#panel {
    background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0) !important; /* Fully transparent */
    background-image: url('file:///home/username/Pictures/background.jpg') !important;
    background-size: cover !important;
    background-position: center !important;
    background-repeat: no-repeat !important;
}
Similarly no effect due to above code. A workaround I found for this is to set the wallpaper with image of taskbar appended to its bottom, and then set taskbar transparent using 'Zorin Appearance' and setting taskbar opacity to 0, which makes it transparent and shows the image from wallpaper, mimicking image-on-taskbar effect. But this is a workaround, and in case of any other window behind the taskbar, covering the wallpaper, it will ruin this effect. Another observation: There is an extension zorin-taskbar@zorinos enabled that has some settings regarding transparency and image involved as found using LookingGlass. **It would be of help if someone could point out the way to actually put an image on background of taskbar.** *PS: I would appreciate someone guiding the way to debug and figure out custom UI tweaks for this Linux OS, as I am interested in making further tweaks and customisations.*

i'm a newbie linux user and i'm having some trouble configurating my logitech mouse. Yesterday I've installed zorin OS on my pc so i don't have great changes from a fresh zorin installation. I'm trying to map the extra buttons of my mouse and i'm using logiops. I watched many tutorial, the wiki from the repo and other threads but i achived only the installation, I'm not able to set the buttons. My logid.cfg file is: devices: ( { name: "Wireless Mouse MX Master 2S "; smartshift: { on: true; threshold: 5; # 7 is ideal for work }; dpi: 800;# <- you may change this number. 4000 is the maximum. buttons: ( { cid: 0xc3; action = { type: "Gestures"; gestures: ( { direction: "Up"; mode: "OnRelease"; action = { type: "Keypress"; keys: ["KEY_LEFTCTRL", "KEY_C"]; }; }, { direction: "Down"; mode: "OnRelease"; action = { type: "Keypress"; keys: ["KEY_LEFTCTRL", "KEY_LEFTALT", "KEY_DOWN"]; }; }, { direction: "Left"; mode: "OnRelease"; action = { type: "Keypress"; keys: ["KEY_LEFTCTRL", "KEY_LEFTALT", "KEY_LEFT"]; }; }, { direction: "Right"; mode: "OnRelease"; action = { type: "Keypress"; keys: ["KEY_LEFTCTRL", "KEY_LEFTALT", "KEY_RIGHT"]; } }, { direction: "None" mode: "OnRelease"; action = { type: "Keypress"; keys: ["KEY_LEFTMETA"]; } } ); }; }, { cid: 0xc4; action = { type = "ToggleSmartshift"; }; } ); } ); *This file is from another thread, i only changed the up gesture on thumb button to see if something change* my goal is to set copy and paste on my left side buttons and back on thumb button. As you can see i tried to bind ctrl+c on up gesture but it doesn't work *(i restarted logid with 'sudo systemctl restart logid')*. If i run sudo logid my mouse is correctly detected on hidraw4 but seems not configurated: config error As u can see hidraw4 detect when my mouse went in sleep mode: Sleep mode I tried many configurations suggested by threads and [repos wiki ](https://github.com/PixlOne/logiops/wiki/Configuration) but anything seems not to work. I tried something like:
cid: 0xc3;
     action ={
          type: "Keypress";
          keys: ["KEY_LEFTCTRL", "KEY_C"];
}
now i don't remember what i did this morning :P Can someone explain me where am i wrong and what should i do? Thanks! PS: i'm using the mouse from usb dongle and not from bluetooth

But I wasn't getting the full screen. I wasn't getting good copy and paste between the Hyper-V connection and the Zorin VM. That all lead me to look at xrdp. I got it working without too much fuss with a bash script from GitHub: option 1 option 2 Then I got the ugly default gnome UI, not the Zorin custom UI I came for. ***Any one have ideas about altering the scripts I found to get the some Zorin UI in xRDP?***

Since updated 1.24. the game produces performance issues on Linux. I run the game with one of the latest versions of Proton via steam due to the fact that I've already had an wargaming account before the game released on steam store. I searched through protondb for my issue and I found the WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY launch argument workaround. But It didn't solve my problem, the game still drops my fps from 100+ to below 20 every 5 seconds. I asked about on the wot discord server and the wot subreddit, they told me that my config is really outdated for it so it's of course the game stutters, but the problem is not related to my rig even tho I myself admit it's really old but I could play wot without any performance issues on medium settings around january this year. Honestly, I really don't know what to do with this. Is there any other fixes or workaround I can try to solve my problem? I'm starting think it's dead end. My config: - OS: Zorin OS 16.3 64bit; https://zorin.com/os/ Zorin OS 16.3 is based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS compared to Zorin OS 16, which was based on Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS - CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.20 GHz x 4; Intel Ark - GPU: AMD Radeon R7 370 - RAM: 24 GB (DDR3? / DDR4?) Resources: - Minimum / Recommended system requirements list page - Official documentation on running WoT on Linux - Wine lists a Platinum result in testing 1.x (2018) version - Proprietary AMD graphics Linux drivers for Ubuntu 22.04 based OS P.S.: Sorry if this place is not the right one for my issue, but I tried many subreddits to post my question, and none of them managed to make a proper answer for it.

Zorin OS stuck on blank screen and blinking cursor on boot after changing the PATH variable

I've googled and tried out all the ways but in typical IT fashion, none of them worked T_T. I have Windows 11 and Zorin 16 dual boot on my Lenovo Legion 5, on separate disks (windows is 500GB, Zorin is on a 250gb ssd). I was trying to set up a java environment on Zorin, and accidentally changed and saved the changed PATH variable (which if anyone here has installed java on linux means what I was supposed to put in JAVA_HOME, I put in PATH accidentally and saved that). A bit nervous about that I looked up solutions. Apparently rebooting the system would reset the PATH to the default value. So I rebooted into Zorin. Voila, blank screen with blinking cursor. I have tried to "drop into command line", but in one case I just couldn't get past the "login" command that the command line brought up (I *know* the passwords because I was literally just using them to use the system some minutes back, so that cannot be the issue). In another case when I tried 'Advanced Options for Zorin' and booted into the recovery menu, I tried to go the command line method from there. Nothing changed on rebooting. Then I tried all the options on recovery menu (clear logs, update grub, etc). Nothing worked even then. Many solutions ask me to do something with gdm3 but when I typed in those commands in my command line in the Zorin recovery menu, the system said gdm3 is not installed. I really don't want to have to reinstall Zorin again and want to solve this issue. Any help would be appreciated a lot T_T_T_T.

I'm attempting to get some form of Minecraft Education Edition running on a Linux PC that I have, (Zorin OS 16.1 64-bit). After moving the install files from an existing Windows installation of Minecraft Edu to my Linux PC, I was able to get Minecraft running using Wine (6.0.3)! Minecraft Edu on Linux! Unfortunately, the ability to log in doesn't work because Wine doesn't have a suitable implementation for Windows.Networking.Connectivity/Authentication libraries. 0188:err:combase:RoGetActivationFactory Failed to find library for L"Windows.Networking.Connectivity.NetworkInformation" 0024:err:combase:RoGetActivationFactory Failed to find library for L"Windows.Security.Authentication.OnlineId.OnlineIdSystemAuthenticator" A version of wine-staging 5.19 seems to have support for the networking stuff Winehq 5.19 staging notes but I wanted to know what other methods/workarounds the wine community might have before I get my hands dirty with installing and configuring older wine builds. Thanks!

Zorin OS 17 Pro was just released. After going through their website and reading numerous articles about it, I don't see the details of a prominent marketing point documented anywhere, namely *a list of which applications are bundled with the Zorin OS 17 Pro distro.* For example, here is a page on Zorin's website stating that their Pro version is "bundled with alternatives to over $5,000 of professional software": https://zorin.com/os/pro/#productivity But the bundled apps are not specified. So, which applications *are* bundled with the Zorin OS 17 Pro distro?

Before installing routersploit on my zorin os, my wifi connection was connecting with home network. However when starting routersploit, suddenly the wifi I was connected to says "Activation of Network Connection Failed". After this incident I've been unable to connect to my wifi. However, when I connect to my smartphone WiFi hotspot, the laptop gets connected without any issues. The error happened after I installed routersploit. i believe it changed or modified some network settings which I'm unaware of. I tried: disabling IPv6 following this guide : Fix: activation of network connection failed on Linux – Its Linux FOSS as well as this guide: Fix: Activation of Network Connection Failed in Linux but none of them worked.
