I have done a fresh install of the latest Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS onto a 2nd hand HP laptop. One of the first things I installed was Skype using the Ubuntu Software Center. Running it using the launcher causes it to start, and it accepts a username and password with validation with the Skype servers. Once you enter the password the [screen goes blank](https://i.imgur.com/iaKou0K.png) and remains that way for over an hour. Running skype on the command line results in the same behaviour, with the below output, all but the final line was produced prior to the username/password entry. What can I do to fix this problem?
username@username-HP:~$ skype
+ [ -f /home/username/snap/skype/common/.config/skypeforlinux/settings.json ]
+ export SKYPE_LOGS=/home/username/snap/skype/361/logs
+ [ ! -d /home/username/snap/skype/361/logs ]
+ exec /snap/skype/361/usr/share/skypeforlinux/skypeforlinux

I visited the Skype download page and selected the Ubuntu Multiarch distribution package. It gave me a .deb file. I opened the package and it brought me to the software center, and I thought "all right, well I'll just go eat something while this is installing." It asks me for my administrator password, and then proceeds with the installation. Three seconds afterwards, the installation just stops with no error message or anything. I can continually press, "Install," to no avail. It downloads for five seconds or so then quits without apparent reason.

After a recent update of Skype it developed these symptoms: - I could see its entry in the task bar, but could not show its window by trying to maximize it - task bar window preview did show the window's thumbnail - when the window was theoretically maximized, I accidentally hovered over its area on the desktop. Mouse pointer was changing and tooltips of familiar Skype UI elements were shown. The window was there, but it was invisible. Online research suggested the window is displayed off the screen. After moving all Skype windows to 0,0 with
xdotool search --class skype windowmove %@ 0 0
Skype window was visible again. I had to use *xdotool* after every Skype start. Updating Skype from *stable* to *unstable* didn't help. My setup is Debian testing with KDE, single HiDPI monitor, nVidia GTX 980.

Linux systems have been having a historical (>5 yrs) problem in configuring audio devices especially commonplace headphones with combo jacks. Since many people want to use their favorite linux systems for video chatting, there are records of frustrating unresolved problems all across various forums. I get that the drivers for the external mic (in headphones with combo jacks) are not currently available (or not developed(?)). So given that, the user should be able to use the internal microphone for input and headphone for output. Along this line I went down the rabbit hole (digged up upto 5-6 yr old issues) and tried lot of things only to get no success in the end (I am using common combo jack headphones and hp laptop running ubuntu 16.04). Many people have variously reported this issue. Here's what commonly happens.. # When headphone is not connected, Internal microphone and speakers work well. PulseAudio shows: enter image description here pacmd list-cards shows: ports: analog-input-internal-mic: Internal Microphone (priority 8900, latency offset 0 usec, available: unknown) properties: device.icon_name = "audio-input-microphone" analog-input-mic: Microphone (priority 8700, latency offset 0 usec, available: no) properties: device.icon_name = "audio-input-microphone" analog-output-speaker: Speakers (priority 10000, latency offset 0 usec, available: unknown) properties: device.icon_name = "audio-speakers" analog-output-headphones: Headphones (priority 9000, latency offset 0 usec, available: no) properties: device.icon_name = "audio-headphones" # When headphone is connected, Output through headphones work well. But external microphone (located on headphone) does not work (stuttering noise, drivers not present, alright), but then Internal microphone is 'unplugged' too. (So there is no way to record any sound.) PulseAudio shows: enter image description here pacmd list-cards shows: ports: analog-input-internal-mic: Internal Microphone (priority 8900, latency offset 0 usec, available: no) properties: device.icon_name = "audio-input-microphone" analog-input-mic: Microphone (priority 8700, latency offset 0 usec, available: yes) properties: device.icon_name = "audio-input-microphone" analog-output-speaker: Speakers (priority 10000, latency offset 0 usec, available: no) properties: device.icon_name = "audio-speakers" analog-output-headphones: Headphones (priority 9000, latency offset 0 usec, available: yes) properties: device.icon_name = "audio-headphones" **So, headphones gives the output, that's great, but is there any way to force internal microphone for input? (somehow make available: yes)**

Can somebody please provide directions on HOW to set up WebCamoid to use a ChromaKey Green Screen to add a virtual background to my virtual camera? I have WebCamoid installed on MacOS Mojave 10.14 but cannot figure out how to do this and I cannot find directions anywhere. In theory I know you need to add an image, add a filter to process the video and then setup WebCamoid as a virtual webcam, but I can find no details on how this is done. Thank you.

Calling it on the command line shows no messages or errors. I tried with the latest 8.79.76.22 version and with the oldest 8.74.0.152 version on the repo, no change. Any ideas?

Why is this happening? Is there something wrong with my system? And what should I do?

I am using Ubuntu 10.10 version. Recently I am finding this error. When I used to close the Skype client, then it used to go up to the desktop. (The above panel where time and date are generally displayed.) Now, when I am closing, it gets closed and I don't know where it's located. Then, when I try to sign in again, it says another Skype version is running. Any ideas on how to rectify this.
