My zoom class teacher doesn't give us a link with a hashed password and I am using [this](https://github.com/tmonfre/zoom-cli) to open zoom from command line. (**EDIT:** Later I knew that normal zoom command open a link with non-hashed password.) Now I am even sick of typing the command in a terminal, so that I want to make it a cron job. My script (/home/taro/Scripts/i_hate_cron.sh)is like:
#!/bin/bash
export DISPLAY=:0
export BROWSER=/usr/bin/google-chrome-stable
/usr/bin/pyzoom class101
Here, pyzoom is a symbolic link to the afore-hyperlinked python program that opens a zoom meeting with automatically filling a meeting ID and a password. And the systemctl status cronie.service 's output is
4:52 yamada CROND: pam_unix(crond:session): session closed for user taro
Feb 18 16:25:01 yamada crond: pam_unix(crond:session): session opened for user taro(uid=1000) by (uid=0)
Feb 18 16:25:01 yamada CROND: (taro) CMD (/home/taro/Scripts/i_hate_cron.sh)
Feb 18 16:25:52 yamada CROND: (taro) CMDEND (/home/taro/Scripts/i_hate_cron.sh)
Feb 18 16:25:52 yamada CROND: pam_unix(crond:session): session closed for user taro
crond didn't give me the zoom window:< Using xvfb and taking a screenshot of it, I confirmed that this cron job works fine with it, but I don't know how to change from outputting to display :99, which is the default of xvfb, to :0. What should I do to make zoom open automatically with cron? (Actually I prefer systemd/Timer, since I am using Arch Linux. So I also welcome answers adopting systemd)

When I try to login with my username and password it can't connect and saying: "*It looks like we are unable to connect. Please check your network connection and try again*". It also can't connect to an already started by someone else meeting using a URL without logging in and a similar error message is shown. enter image description here At the same time other people in the same LAN can connect and use Zoom. I also tried other network (WiFi connection to a Hotspot on my phone) with the same result. If I run zoom from a terminal no additional messages are printed in that terminal.

I am facing multiple issues with my Logitech Zone Vibe 125 headphones, which are connected via Bluetooth to my Debian Linux system. Each time I launch Zoom, I encounter no audio output. While I can sometimes manage this issue by switching output sources in Pulse Audio Volume Control, other times, only a system reboot resolves it. Further, when Zoom is active, other applications like Spotify have muffled audio, and YouTube videos fail to load, sticking on the loading animation. These problems cease once Zoom is closed, and audio quality returns to normal. I've also tried using the fallback device feature in Pulse Audio Volume Control by selecting different devices as the fallback. Currently, I have disabled all devices except for my headphones. Has anyone experienced similar issues or have any suggestions for a more permanent fix? Any advice or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated. System Information: Laptop: ThinkPad T480 OS: Debian 12 Bookworm (64-bit) Desktop Environment: GNOME 43.9 (Wayland) Thank you for any help you can provide.

There is an application, Zoom, which depends on software known as ibus. After installation, ibus likes to autostart. I don't want ibus to autostart. I've removed autostart files that start im-daemon from ~/.config/autostart and /etc/xdg/autostart, but the application still starts. I've searched for systemd services and found none which start ibus. If I log out and log back in, the application starts again. How can I find the source and stop this malware-emulating software from autostarting? I'm on Debian 10 Cinnamon. Currently, I have deleted the binary for im-daemon, which causes the autostart program to fail. However, I still want to know how and why this software strives to hide its activity from the user.

I have a Schenker XMG U706 notebook which has a BisonCam NB Pro cam in it. I remember when having used Zoom (What a coincidende in naming! :) under (dual boot) Windows I could zoom in/out the video. Now that I have to use BigBlueButton in FF under Linux my face (in appx. 1 m distance) fills about 1/8 of the video display only and apparently there isn't any option to change this in this virtual classroom app. Is there a way to change the zoom level a level below the app and the browser, e.g. in webcam settings of KDE or the OS itself?

We both have Ubuntu 22.04 LTS machines, reimaged onto Dell machines that were originally windows. I won't write more details because after a search, I thought it might be due to Wayland, and it was. So I will add my answer here to help others find it.

I use zoom on Gnome Wayland in [NixOS](https://nixos.org) ([dotfiles](https://github.com/joshrule/config)) . The problem I’m trying to solve is that while I can see the zoom icon in the launcher/overview: screenshot of Zoom icon in Gnome overlay I get the default application icon everywhere else: default application icon used for Zoom in Gnome taskbar I had a similar problem with [foot](https://codeberg.org/dnkl/foot) , because the desktop entry was missing the line StartupWMClass = foot. I wrote a [custom desktop entry](https://github.com/joshrule/config/blob/ba01eb5dff7f9274ceffae2638efea4ed7577723/users/rule/home.nix#L150-L166) , and that resolved the problem. Now, the default Zoom.desktop file already contains StartupWMClass = zoom:
ini
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Zoom
Comment=Zoom Video Conference
Exec=/nix/store/v651rqca7bjrbvgc1760qcskj7lcgapn-zoom-5.15.2.4260/bin/zoom %U
Icon=Zoom
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Encoding=UTF-8
Categories=Network;Application;
StartupWMClass=zoom
MimeType=x-scheme-handler/zoommtg;x-scheme-handler/zoomus;x-scheme-handler/tel;x-scheme-handler/callto;x-scheme-handler/zoomphonecall;application/x-zoom
X-KDE-Protocols=zoommtg;zoomus;tel;callto;zoomphonecall;
Name[en_US]=Zoom
I've tried changing the capitalization (i.e. StartupWMClass=Zoom), but that doesn't solve the problem. Also, running desktop-file-validate on Zoom.desktop (see [this question](https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/41135/png-image-not-displaying-for-desktop-icon-on-fedora-16-17-with-gnome)) warns of a couple deprecations, but gives no errors. Similarly, I see no errors in ~/.xsession-errors. In addition, looking glass (i.e. Alt + F2 “lg”) doesn’t report a known wmclass nor that Gnome used Zoom.desktop to launch zoom. Gnome Looking Glass reports no wmclass or desktop entry for zoom. What is going on here, and how can I consistently use the zoom icon throughout Gnome?

Any way to make them both work?

Seems that some QmlDirParser function from certain Qt_5 lib does not exist in my minimum installation environment, or the version doesn't match well. Any idea? My zoom is installed from the standard place https://zoom.us/client/latest/zoom_amd64.deb , and

I updated Mint to 20.3 and since then I have some strange issue with Zoom 5.14.2, whenever some music is played if some instruments are loud it cuts the microphone. I tried all the options in the Zoom App but cannot find what the problem is, it was working fine before updating Mint so I'm thinking it might be some problem with the update? Any idea how I could fix that? I thought about downgrading but I'm in the middle of a seminar with 2 sessions per day and I have no time to reinstall everything...

Change Zoom Key Bindings in Xfce
In Xfce, you can use Alt + two fingers on the touchpad to zoom in and zoom out on the entire computer screen. How can I change this zoom shortcut to instead use Alt + only one finger on the touchpad for zoom in and zoom out?

KDE: how to get rid of IBus sys tray icon and keep Zoom

This is a variant of [this question](https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/529822/kde-how-to-get-rid-of-ibus-keyboard-selector) . But the provided answers either don't seem to work or would entail not being able to have Zoom (cf below). Situation: - I run Kubuntu 21.04 with KDE Plasma 5.21.4 - Zoom requires IBus. I have Zoom and I need it. - IBus has by default an icon on the system tray in addition to the default keyboard selector Two keyboard selectors in systray How can I get rid of the IBus keyboard selector (the ugly leftmost one) in the system tray ? What I have tried: - Uninstalling IBus means uninstalling Zoom ; not an option - Start-up script to kill IBus (`ibus exit`) => no sys tray icon but keyboard doesn't work in certain apps - Uncheck "Show icon in sys tray" in IBus Preferences => IBus still appears in system tray even after reboot even though box remains unchecked - Do the same with `dconf` from the command line => IBus still ignores the config option - Start-up script to restart IBus without panel (`ibus-daemon -rd --panel=disable) => no sys tray icon and IBus is running (ibus-daemon` says something about an existing instance) but the dead keys of my French keyboard ("circumflex + e" displays "e" instead of "ê") don't work anymore. - Tried to hide the IBus sys tray icon in the System Tray Configuration Menu but the drop-down for display options is grayed out:

This way I can bind zooming to the mouse scroll wheel in a manner that works in any window manager or desktop environment that is X based.

I am using pulseeffects on my microphone inputs to filter my voice a bit. It's working in every other application that supports pulseaudio except Zoom. Zoom seems my microphone, but it just ignores pulseeffects completely. Pulseeffects,also, doesn't show any bars or anything indicating that something is using the microphone. However, the application shows up in pulseeffects. enter image description here Then, I have these very weird options in "Speaker" for Zoom "PulseEffects(apps)" and "PulseEffects(mic)." Which, don't appear in Microphone. enter image description here How do I get Zoom to recognize pulseeffects?

--no-sandbox

Currently have the RPM version installed, but this issue also occurs with the Flatpak version. Does anyone know a possible alternative workaround other than switching to X11 display? Here are my specs below: OS: Fedora 35 DE: Gnome 41.4 CPU: Intel i7-10870H (16) @ 5GHz GPU: GeForce RTX 2060 (ver. 510) Display: XWayland Thank you in advance for any guidance!

I have a fresh Arch linux installation (it's my first time on Arch I work mostly on Oracle Linux), so far I have my windowing system working (I'm using Xmonad + Lightdm) just fine, I also changed the **/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness** to basically match the maximum brightness, the problem comes when screen sharing on Zoom meetings. In that case my screen brightness decays a lot for me and for the shared content. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find useful stuff on Google which can tell me a little bit more about my problem or a potential solution. Need help here. Does anyone knows why this happens?

Ever since installing Zoom Flatpak I've noticed that many web-links (like telephone numbers) that should **not** be associated to ZOOM are now being opened by ZOOM. I'd like to maintain Zoom assocition only for zoommtg and nothing else. Looking inside var/lib/flatpak/exports/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache reveals that zoom is stealing file and URI associations for TEL (telephone) CALLTO as shown below
[MIME Cache]
application/x-zoom=us.zoom.Zoom.desktop;
x-scheme-handler/callto=us.zoom.Zoom.desktop;
x-scheme-handler/msteams=com.microsoft.Teams.desktop;
x-scheme-handler/tel=us.zoom.Zoom.desktop;
x-scheme-handler/zoommtg=us.zoom.Zoom.desktop;
x-scheme-handler/zoomphonecall=us.zoom.Zoom.desktop;
x-scheme-handler/zoomus=us.zoom.Zoom.desktop;
How to stop it from stealing all these other associations?
