Where is config file of ibus stored?
I'm wondering where is the config file of ibus stored? I checked `~/.config/ibus`, and there's only a dbus socket. And no ~/.ibus folder available.

I am currently custumizing my .XCompose file in Fedora 29 Workstation (with the default GNOME 3, Wayland, etc). It seems that it does follow the rules I add to the ~/.XCompose file, but if I make changes to it then they are only noticed after I log out and log back in again. Is there something I can do to make the changes take effect immediately? I tried running ibus restart on the terminal but it didn't seem to work. Actually, doing that broke the compose-key functionality completely and I had to restart the session again to fix it.

Trying to add the Latin American Spanish keyboard layout on IBus for Debian Bulleye in MATE, but I only get Spaniard Spanish
I am running Debian 11 Bullseye for AMD64 on an HP Pavillion Touch 14-N009LA laptop, using IBus and MATE as desktop environment, having upgraded recently from Buster. Prior to upgrading point release, I could use the Latin American keyboard layout with IBus; afterwards, I am no longer able to do so....
I am running Debian 11 Bullseye for AMD64 on an HP Pavillion Touch 14-N009LA laptop, using IBus and MATE as desktop environment, having upgraded recently from Buster. Prior to upgrading point release, I could use the Latin American keyboard layout with IBus; afterwards, I am no longer able to do so. The Keyboard Preferences app on MATE Control Center shows the Latin American Spanish layout, and I can manually set it with setxkbmap latam on a terminal (before IBus kicks in and replaces it), but on IBus I am only presented with the "Spanish" keyboard, which corresponds to the Spaniard Spanish keyboard that has different punctuation keys; there is no option for "Latin American" or anything similar. Running ibus list-engine gives me the following output, in which I can't see the Latin American Spanish layout, and no matches for latam or anything similar: language: Spanish xkb:es:nodeadkeys:spa - Spanish (no dead keys) xkb:es:sundeadkeys:spa - Spanish (Sun dead keys) xkb:es:winkeys:spa - Spanish (Windows) xkb:es:dvorak:spa - Spanish (Dvorak) xkb:es:deadtilde:spa - Spanish (dead tilde) xkb:es:mac:spa - Spanish (Macintosh) xkb:es::spa - Spanish So far I could only find a guide that only seems to apply to Ubuntu , and the Arch Linux guide for IBus . The former guide suggested that maybe I had to generate a Spanish locale for my system, which I did by uncommenting the es-MX locales from /etc/locale.gen and then running locale-gen. Afterwards, I rebooted my system. It didn't work. Any other idea on how could I use the Latin American Spanish layout on IBus for Debian Bullseye?

Set ibus daemon to automatically run at startup as ibus-daemon --xim\ I also ran im-config, choosing ibus option at user configuration.\ And I still cannot type Vietnamese characters. Am I missing any steps? Or am I not providing enough information? Helps are appreciated.

I want to use IBus with libpinyin on my NixOS install with KDE plasma. Following various guides I tried the following configuration: ~/.xsessionrc: xmodmap -e "keysym ISO_Level3_Shift = Multi_key" ~/.XCompose: include "%L" # Compose keys for pinyin with tone marks : "ā" : "ē" : "ī" : "ō" : "ū" : "á" : "é" : "í" : "ó" : "ú" : "ǎ" : "ě" : "ǐ" : "ǒ" : "ǔ" : "à" : "è" : "ì" : "ò" : "ù" With this configuration, no compose characters work. If I run bash ~/.xsessionrc then I can see that xev reports the correct compose characters like so; If I type , then various events appear in the log, one of which includes this line: XmbLookupString gives 3 bytes: (61 cc 81) "á" So the xsessionrc file isn't running at the right time (on login I suppose), but furthermore, no other applications actually allow me to use the compose combinations. Both kwrite and chromium ignore the XCompose config, even after using the suggested config below in my ~/.profile; export GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus export QT_IM_MODULE=ibus (This config is getting set, as env shows these variables as being set.) To be clear it is only xev that shows that the config _might_ be somewhat correct. No real application that actually needs input will let me compose these characters. How can I get the compose behaviour I want?

I've had to leave xim behind because of various graphical issues. And I'm trying to set up ibus but having trouble getting it to cycle through keyboards. Other info: - Debian Testing - Awesome WM --- This was my set up with before using ibus. I mapped one of my special keys on my keyboard to ISO_Next_Group. With the set up below I could cycle through the three keyboad layouts using my special key and compose using PrtSc. ### ~/.sessionrc

In ibus-setup, all three keyboard layouts are listed and the key to change layouts is ISO_Next_group, but when I press this key, rather than cycling through all three layouts, ibus just toggles between us and the most recently selected (by mouse) other layout. Once ibus-daemon is loaded, I notice that the output from xev also changes when I press my ISO_Next_Group key:

Please, how to get rid of IBus service/IBus panel when running KDE? This Gnome(?) keyboard layout manager (?) can get into conflict with the layout set natively in KDE Settings. I need to switch often between CZ and UK keyboard and IBus makes it impossible. The severity of this issue can range from a visual irritation of having two keyboard layout indicators in the tray area, but it gets much more serious when both systems set conflicting layouts; like when in KDE I set Czech keyboard but IBus somewhat keeps English UK layout: enter image description here enter image description here enter image description here Can you guess which layout - EN (IBus) or CZ (KDE) - is actually active? The wrong one, of course, IBus seems to always override KDE :( If I quit IBus panel now, it would make it even worse because it's only the tray applet, the GUI bit, what disappears but IBus service is still active. I still wouldn't have my CZ keyboard and absolutely no way to change it. Very annoying variant of this problem is when user have only single layout setting in KDE, which is by default not displayed in the tray area; but IBus setting always is, even as single layout. User then have a very angrying sensation of whatever he sets in KDE Settings is completely ignored, blaming probably KDE, unaware that the layout indicator belongs to a different system and that is overriding KDE settings. I once managed to kill all keyboard input completely when playing with KDE Settings and IBus properties at the same time. Really awful UX. IBus seems to be part of the Gnome stack. So why it gets activated in KDE? I suspect it appeared there only after I had installed also some Gnome/Gtk applications, like Gimp, GDM, etc. OS: openSuse 15.0 Linux. This issue was present in previous versions too. UPDATE: I also faced issue with US keyboard suddenly appearing as a third option. But twat would be for yet another bug report. UPDATE 2: OK, I uninstalled them. Surprisingly it is possible to uninstall just ibus, not the whole Gnome. My GDM still works. BUT - I now face another issue, I cannot switch keyboard layouts anymore, despite setting everything in System Settings and having 2 keyboard indicators in tray, only UK keyboard now works for me. I suspect IBus screwed something in KDE generally. Ehhh, I sometimes feel that working with Linux means you will spend half of the time solving usability issues and writing bug reports :(

Info about input method and keyboard layout

I'm using Devuan GNU/Linux [based on Debian 11 Bullseye]. I have Xfce as my DE and use ibus-m17n as my input tool. In Ubuntu, in the I-Bus settings dialog, I used to find the keyboard layout for the chosen language. The last version of Ubuntu that I used was 16.04 LTS. Ever since I shifted to Debian and eventually Devuan, I don't find that keyboard layout option. What I get is some sort of an overlay when I hover the mouse over the particular input method. I have provided the link for two such overlays below. Image Image **Question** 1. How can I get the full information shown in the overlays? 2. I try to get IBus input methods working on my Debian testing (bookworm) under Gnome 43. For example pinyin I installed it with sudo apt install ibus-pinyin When I switch to Chinese now the Chinese input works only in GTK apps but not for example in Firefox or in Electron born apps like Atom or Signal. What could be the cause of this problem and how to fix it? Is this a Debian bug or a specific problem of my configuration?

I was using ibus on Arch Linux (neofetch below for reference) and it was working perfectly - I was able to switch between languages using my keyboard shortcut, and dead keys were working perfectly. However, suddenly I am having issues: 1) [FIXED] I can't switch language using my keyboard. I can switch by clicking ibus in the i3-bar, and it changes, but when I use my keyboard shortcut (I've tried both Ctrl+Space and Shift+Tab), the small window comes up in the center of the screen, which I can cycle through, however when I release, the language doesn't change to the selected one. 2. Dead keys only work in the terminal, and nowhere else? I can use them as compose keys perfectly fine in the terminal, as well as Emacs (and I'm sure a few other programs), however in Firefox and Discord, for example, they do not work: I use a UK dead key layout, and when I press a dead key (such as '), it simply puts the dead key ´ or ` etc, rather than composing it with my next input, which also means I can't type ' or " by itself, since it will type ´ or ¨. Is there any reason for it to suddenly stop working like this? And, if so (or if not), any ideas on how to fix this? I've already tried completely uninstalling ibus (pacman -R ibus) and reinstalling it, as well as wiping the config with dconf reset -f /desktop/ibus/, however nothing has worked. EDIT: I have fixed the **first** issue by adding the following lines to my .xinitrc, however the second issue remains:
export GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus
export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus
export QT_IM_MODULE=ibus

How to toggle between ibus and xkb?
I am using MX GNU/Linux v19 (Patito feo). I have installed these three packages with `apt`. 1. ibus 2. ibus-mozc 3. ibus-anthy I can confidently say that they got installed correctly as I can see this in the Japanese section of ibus-preferences. I have installed these three packages with apt. 1. ibus 2. ibus-mozc 3. ibus-anthy I can confidently say that they got installed correctly as I can see this in the Japanese section of ibus-preferences. 1 I can see the ibus icon in my panel too! 2 but I still can't input Japanese. It is still using my xkb keyboards. So in this case How to temporarily switch to ibus? I wanted to know if there is any commands for fully activating **and** fully deactivating ibus? I would need both of them as I very often need to switch to my xkb-layouts too. I am planning to add keyboard shortcuts for both of those commands which I believe will make my life very easy :) GUI solutions are welcome as they will be useful for other users having similar issue. Thanks in advance.

This one is tricky as I have heavily customized my setup, but it has been bothering me a lot so I decided to ask a question. Recently, ibus stopped appearing on the system tray. While my system tray is not the typical one people use, it does comply to the freedesktop's StatusNotifierItem specification. I don't think a program as famous as ibus would have status notifier not compliant to the standard. Do you have any clue what is happening? Which system diagnostics could I dig up to pinpoint the problem? Any direction (excluding "use another system tray") would be appreciated! EDIT: The option "Show icon on system tray" is definitely turned on.

I am wanting to get the Ibus IME (Anthy engine for Japanese input) working in all my window managers. Unity is fine, along with Compiz and Metacity. But the one I really want to get it working with is spectrwm (a tiling window manager - i3m, xmonad are others). I tried running the ibus-daemon, but any of they keyboard shortcuts to change to the different input method don't work. I can't tell whether this is because Ibus isn't working, or it requires the Gnome-panel to function, or just the keyboard shortcuts are being stolen by the desktop manager and thus not passed to ibus. Where do I start in debugging this?
