Can I type Korean using Linux mint 17.2 Cinnamon using fcitx? I have check several post, which told me that I can use iBus to type Korean. But I am using fcitx to type other Language like Chinese. If I change my type method to iBus, I cannot type Chinese. I checked this post , there is a solution that said that I can install following package to type Korean. * General packages for Cinnamon:
fcitx fcitx-ui-classic fcitx-config-gtk fcitx-frontend-gtk3
* Specific package for Korean:
fcitx-hangul
However after I installed this package, configure fcitx, logout and login, I cannot add Korean type method to fcitx.

I've recently become interested in learning Sumerian cuneiform. I see there is at least some support in Unicode , and there are fonts on Linux that support the glyphs too, so the question is: is there any support in any input method? I have looked through the list of what is supported by fcitx (or rather, what is available in Debian), and it doesn't look like it, but it could be (there seems to be a growing interest in learning Sumerian for some reason).

I just got this problem after manually updating my Laptop to Linux Mint 20. Before this I used Ibus together with Eurkey without any problem. After the update I realized they both didn't work anymore. So I removed ibus and tried Fcitx. Got it to work but Eurkey still doesn't stay. When I boot up I have to enter the command "setxkbmap eu" for the Eurkey layout to work. And as soon as I use Ctrl + Space to change the input method and then back Eurkey layout is reset to English US layout. I haven't tried a fresh install of Linux Mint 20 yet so I'm not sure if that's the solution and even then I don't want to reinstall everything..

Digression: I switched to KDE, but after adding a wetget to the panel the desktop crashed. : )

I have been working on getting a new Debian (Stretch) install working satisfactorily on my new computer (Lenovo X270), including setting up xmonad/xmobar. Since I am studying Japanese, I wanted to set up an IME, which I managed to do using fcitx/fcitx-mozc. However, I wanted to include a plugin in my xmobar setup that indicates whether the current input method (according to fcitx) is japanese or not. The Kbd plugin doesn't seem to do this, since fcitx doesn't directly interface with XKB (as far as I can tell), so it shows "us" all the time. I also haven't been able to find out any way of querying the current fcitx IM from a terminal. Is there any way to do this (as if this is possible, I might be able to hack together an xmobar indicator), or is it far more trouble than it is worth? [For the record, I tried setting up ibus, but I had trouble with it, so I switched over to fcitx.] If necessary, I am more than happy to provide more details about my setup.

I want to add a Korean input method on an elementary OS Juno system which currently running fcitx-mozc with a US-101 keyboard. Because of some business restrictions, I cannot freely sacrifice Mozc only for a Korean IME or switch from fcitx to iBus. The current steps I have done is the following: I installed fcitx-hangul through APT command. I opened fcitx-config-gtk3 menu, added a Keyboard-Korean option from the list, and did logout/in. It still toggles EnglishJapanese fine. But, no signs for Korean input options show up. Is there any way I can switch those 3 languages on fcitx with minimal environmental changes or additions? I am aiming at a goal that can enable Japanese IME by hitting left-CTRL + SPACE, and enable Korean IME by right-CTRL + SPACE (or some other short-cut key). Any suggestions. Or, what process am I missing? Thanks :)

I recently installed FCITX (with the French AZERTY and the Japanese MOZC keyboards). Since then, my right-control key doesn't do anything anymore. I would like right-control to be the compose key with FCITX. Their issue tracker says it has been solved in 2014 , however it doesn't explain how to actually do it. Since the repo is archived, I don't know what's the correct place to ask them directly.

In Windows and MacOS there is also a shortcut to switch to the previous input method, in addition to "switch to the next input method". However I don't seem to find such an option in fcitx. Did I overlook something? This is quite inconvenient.
