I'm trying to install an app on SteamOS and it's through the Terminal. When I run the command, I need to enter my sudo password as can be seen below: sudo password --- The thing is, I’ve never set a sudo password as far as I’m aware. How can I find out what this password is, maybe change it or remove it? I really don’t know what I set my sudo password to, I have no memory of ever setting one. I found this answer , but it didn't help me as when I enter those commands, then it asks for the sudo password again which I don't have.

I just switched almost all of my computers over to CachyOS, but I have a big issue now. AnyDesk isn't working. It worked perfectly before. I'm able to connect to other computers that are running SteamOS, Windows 10 and Windows 11, but can't connect to any of my own CachyOS computers from my own computers. I am however able to connect from CachyOS to my other computers. I keep getting this popup: AnyDesk: Remote display server is not supported (e.g. Wayland) --- I searched a bit and it seems like some people on Ubuntu are having the same issue by looking at this question . The answers there aren't very helpful though. As an example, I don't even have that gdm3 directory. So therefor I can't find this file: /etc/gdm3/custom.conf.

I've had to reinstall my HoloISO OS because for an unknown reason the previous install failed to boot. Upon even a complete reinstall I've been unable to use pacman. I've rebooted and looked for other instances of pacman running or db.lck files, but none have appeared. I don't have any reason to beleive I'm using pacmac, but I don't have any other ideas. Trying to use pacman -Syu results in an install failure caused by "failed to synchronise all databases" Also trying to reboot results in an 1228 second long stream of "device not accepting address XX, error -71" according to the INFO message right before it finally did restart, but I haven't had the chance to investigate that yet. I will edit this post once I've got the chance to investigate this further. SOLUTION: Forgot to steamos-readonly disable

There is also a copy of this file on /etc/skel/.bash_profile My understanding is that .bash_profile [should source](https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/404877/606347) .bashrc and not the other way around, but in this case it seems there is no way for me to add a file on the home directory that only gets sourced once and not on every single new shell. So I have the following questions: 1. Is my assessment correct or could this be some SteamOS / ArchLinux quirk? 2. Should I source my aliases and exports on this ~/.bashrc or modify the system files to also source my ~/.bash_profile? Thanks in advance! ---

The latest build for most of my library and v1.10.3 specifically to play Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity over the internet with friends. I'm able to downgrade the currently installed flatpak to this version but now I've hit a roadblock trying to install the latest build without overwriting the other. Having never used Linux before in my life...I'm lost.

I want to run neofetch in my Konsole to see my system information on SteamOS, but neofetch isn't installed by default because I get the following: > bash: neofetch: command not found So I searched online a bit and seems you can install it using the following command:
sudo pacman -S neofetch
But then I get an error. The error I'm getting and seeing is this: > error: failed to init transaction (unable to lock database) > error: could not lock database: Read-only file system neofetch on SteamOS --- Is it even possible to run neofetch on SteamOS? How can I install or run neofetch on SteamOS? --- **EDIT:** I've made some progress on installing it. First I ran the following commands in order to enable editing on my read-only image:
sudo steamos-readonly disable
sudo pacman-key --init
And if I run sudo pacman -S neofetch now, then I get the following error: > error: neofetch: signature from "GitLab CI Package Builder " is unknown trust :: File /var/cache/pacman/pkg/neofetch-7.1.0-2-any.pkg.tar.zst is corrupted (invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature)). I also tried the commands from this link :
sudo steamos-readonly disable
sudo pacman-key --init
sudo pacman-key --populate archlinux
sudo pacman -Syu
sudo steamos-readonly enable
But that results in the following: > error: failed to commit transaction (invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature)). Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded. And I also tried sudo pacman -Sy archlinux-keyring as suggested in the comments, but that results in the following error: > error: failed to synchronize all databases (unable to lock database)

I pressed Ctrl+Alt+F3 as this is a shortcut key for one of the programs that I am using and when I pressed this, all four of my screens went black and blank. I don't know how to get back to my normal desktops. Pressing the power button on the Steam Deck doesn't seem to do anything. It stays black and blank. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+F3 again doesn't return me back to my normal desktop. I've also plugged out my external monitors, keyboard, mouse, and all of my stuff via Type C, but I still have the same issue. The screen is just black and blank. There's literally nothing on the screen. I found some other people online complaining about this too and they're saying to press Ctrl+Alt+F7 which I've done, but nothing happens. --- How do I exit this black blank screen (Ctrl+Alt+F3) on SteamOS and return back to my normal KDE desktop environment?

Can someone please tell me how I can manually trigger this to bring it up on my own? This link and many other links says the following: > In Desktop Mode, select a text field then press the Steam button + X. But I didn't even touch the Steam Deck. So I definitely didn't press the Steam button or the X button. I exclusively use my Steam Deck via a keyboard and mouse. --- I'm hoping there's a shortcut key for the on-screen keyboard that I'm sometimes pressing by accident or maybe a way in the KDE environment to bring it up?
