I have a laptop and a separate screen I plugged via HDMI what I want to do that I use the laptop screen for workspace1 and external screen for workspace2 this may explain butter: - each workspace will be "glued" to one monitor. - when a workspace is selected as "active" it receives the mouse + keyboard inputs. - windows which have been opened on (active or non-active workspaces) remain displayed on the monitors. right now I'm using manjaro and Xfce and AMD GPU what I find out from my research is that Xfce doesn't support this future so I want to know what are the best windows managers options to do such a thing and how to do it

I'm using the Mate desktop, with multiple workspaces. In Mate, I can right-click on the title bar of any window and move the window to another workspace (a context menu with options "Move to Workspace Left", "Move to Workspace Right", "Move to Another Workspace"). However, this doesn't work for Firefox windows. I can't get to this context menu by right-clicking on the top bar of a Firefox window (i.e., the tab bar). It doesn't matter where I click; even if I click on the empty space or click on or near the buttons for minimizing/maximizing/closing the window, I can't open this context menu. It looks like Firefox windows don't have anything that X considers a title bar: if I understand correctly, the top bar on Firefox windows (the "tab bar") doesn't seem to be considered a title bar by X Windows. Is there some mouse combination I can use to move a Firefox window among workspaces, in Mate? (I know that Firefox lets me optionally enable a separate title bar, but I don't want to enable a separate Firefox title bar just for this purpose, as the title bar is just wasted space with no useful information beyond what is already present on the tab bar.)

Running Linux Mint 22.1 xia with cinnamon desktop. Workspaces have been working fine up until a couple of days ago. Now when I open any apps they appear on the screen in all workspaces but are only active in the workspace in which they were opened. In other workspaces they are inactive and do not react to any action, mouse or keyboard, except the close button works. The ghosts do not appear in the workspace switcher, only on the screen. The apps are set to 'Only on this workspace'. I have restarted cinnamon and rebooted but the problem still occurs. Any ideas how I can get it working properly again? Could it be anything to do with the recent Mint update?

I've just installed Linux Mint and I am wondering how to fully disable or uninstall the workspaces feature. I've already removed the Window Switcher applet from the bottom panel but this doesn't fully solve the issue. These are the things in particular that I want to remove: - Options to "Move to right workspace", "Move to Workspace 2", etc. in the context menu of the title bar - Any keyboard shortcut that involves switching workspaces or moving windows to different workspaces. In particular Ctrl + Alt+Up arrow - Anything else that can be accidentally triggered to create or switch workspaces. I've already unchecked everything in Hot Corners but the keyboard shortcuts and context menu still show the workspaces-related options. This has got to be one of the most annoying features of any Linux Desktop Manager system and it's really baffling as to why it's still enabled by default or even present after all these years.

How to display an application window in all workspaces simultaneously (Gnome 42.9)

In Ubuntu 20.04 (Gnome) and earlier, one could show a given window in all workspaces simultaneously. Can that be done in 22.04 (Gnome Shell 42.9). If I have Gedit with configuration data as **App Z**, and I need to edit several parts of it for apps **A**, **B** and **C**; I could in 20.04 show **Z** in all workspaces, and **A** in *WS #1*, **B** in *#2*, **C** in *#3*. Navigate to App **A**, check its part of the information held in **Z** - it's on the same workspace. Then switch to workspace *#2* and look at **B**, do the same thing with the relevant part of **Z** which is next to it, etc. Now apparently I have to either move **Z** around workspaces all the time, or have **A**,**B**,**C** and **Z** somehow overlapping in the same workspace. This would involve lots of mouse movement rather than just keyboard actions. What am I missing?

When I run graphical programs in GNOME shell, they sometimes (but not always) start with "Always on Visible Workspace". I don't know what is different between the times they do and don't start in that mode. How can I prevent that? I almost never want programs to start in this mode. The programs affected include firefox (which I always start from gnome-terminal) and gnome-terminal (which I always start by clicking on an icon). I think I've seen the problem with other apps too. I'm using X.org. As far as I can tell I'm not running anything like devilspie that might be likely candidates to interfere with this kind of thing after X programs have started.

Swap workspace between two monitors on gnome
I have two monitors and I am using gnome3. I'd like to press a key so that the windows that are on monitor 1 appear on monitor 2 and those that were on monitor 2 go to monitor 1. More concisely I'd like the two monitors to swap their workspaces. Is there a command to do such a thing?

Could it be that Linux thinks by default that there is a second monitor, even if none is attached? I might also have forgotten about having changed the settings myself long time ago. When I'm pressing the PrtScn ("Print Screen") button, it's taking a screenshot of two screens that are in the workspace, one with my opened applications that I see on the monitor and one empty desktop. When I check the workspaces with CtrlAltUp, I see that I am in just one workspace, the other three are empty. Strangely, if I take a screenshot again now that I played around with a WLAN connected TV and switched workspaces / virtual desktops with CtrlAltRight/Left randomly, and after adding more applications, having many applications opened, I get only the one screen that I am looking at in that screenshot - this seems to work now. I do not know how to get back the error in question, but I know that I had it for many months so that I could not use the built-in screenshot app at all but had to change to flameshot. One could say that this is fixed without knowing why, but I leave this question opened so far until it gets closed by votes. There might be other users with the same problem. I have Linux Mint 20.04, but I think that this is a question for any Linux OS.

Failing that, is there a way to duplicate the bottom panel onto the second monitor? Currently it is only displayed on the left one.

**Behaviour description** In Manjaro (20, XFCE), my mouse wheel switches between workspaces when I scroll up/down outside a window. I can be 'active' within a window (typing, eg) and move to select or to scroll in another window, but if the cursor is outside the boundaries of an active application (browser, word processor, terminal, etc) and I scroll a single notch up/down, it switches to the next workspace in sequence. **Question** Can anybody advise on how to stop/control this behaviour? **Research and things I've tried** 1. Within the Workspace Switcher properties, under behaviour, I unticked "Switch workspaces using the mouse wheel". This worked briefly but was shortlived: presumably a package update somewhere has overridden this. Toggling it on and off makes no difference now. 2. This question is the closest I've found to a similar issue, but I'm not in a VirtualBox and don't have i3 running. I've not had any fortune in using xev other than establishing that my upward scroll is indeed button 4 and downward is button 5. Does anybody have any recommendations on where to look for control over this? Thanks in advance.

Does it exist in gnome (or anywhere - in wayland/xorg/system), so I can set it? If not, then what is the correct command to bind to a shortcut to close gracefully all apps? Do I need to do it low level with signals? And lastly: how would I modify the solution to only close applications on a specific workspace or set of workspaces? (i refer to gnome workspaces)
