I'm running a fully up-to-date Fedora on a Macbook Pro. To get WiFi working in the first place, I installed akmods-wl as recommended. The WiFi works, but the connection keeps dropping. I've noticed this is especially true when there are several devices on my WiFi (when I'm the only person in the house it's usually OK although it still drops on occasion, when roommates come in with their laptops + their phones, the drop rate increases). When connection drops it's usually down for 30 seconds-1 minute before reconnecting. In worst cases this happens every couple of minutes. I have another laptop running Fedora and the WiFi is fine on there, even when there are many devices in the network. My wireless card is Broadcom BCM4331: $ lspci | grep Broadcom 01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM57765 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 10) 01:00.1 SD Host controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM57765/57785 SDXC/MMC Card Reader (rev 10) 02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4331 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 02) iwconfig on my wireless interface: $ iwconfig wlp2s0 wlp2s0 IEEE 802.11abg ESSID:"WINDRUSH" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: 44:E9:DD:0E:7F:00 Retry short limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Power Management:off dmesg shows lots of these two errors: ... Couldn't find any solutions for Fedora regarding this issue. Found some from Arch Wiki and Ubuntu but they didn't work and were also dealing with different versions of the Broadcom wireless card. *(Even if no one has any clear tips for me, can someone explain what those two errors in dmesg mean?)*

Ubuntu (on another partition) shows with lspci that WiFi chip-set is Broadcom BCM4311 and lspci -k shows Ubuntu is using ssb module and b43-pci-bridge driver which works fine. Arch Linux bootable USB with lspci -k shows that it is using the same module and driver but ifconfig shows no wireless interface. [Here](https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/broadcom_wireless#b43) it is mentioned that BCM4311 works with [b43-firmware-classic](https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/b43-firmware-classic/) from AUR. Now, how can I install b43-firmware-classic to use my wireless chip-set, before even installing Arch Linux itself. I ran git clone on Ubuntu and downloaded Arch Linux b43-firmware-classic from AUR on my Ubuntu root partition. However I'm not sure where to go from there.

I download the deb files on my phone then transfer them through Bluetooth. deb files used for installation The first crash arose from a missing dkms, which I installed, then I got an error 10, which is apparently linked to the linux kernel (said chatgpt...) enter image description here I installed the linux headers and modules, but the compilation failed. crash of linux header and modules with the log being End of log file I am bit out of imagination for the next step. I apologize for the cumbersome pictures.

I've tried a lot of things since then but nothing could revive my wifi. When I run rfkill nothing is returned. Also, if I run lspci | grep Network I have this result 05:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries BCM4360 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter (rev 03) I also followed this : https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=383673 , but when I run sudo modprobe -rv bcma wl I get this answer : modprobe: FATAL: Module wl not found. Now I'm a bit stuck and I don't know what to do. If anybody has an idea on how I can get my wifi back, it would be great !

I recently took an old Toshiba laptop and loaded Kali Linux onto it. Everything is working great with one exception--the wireless adapter. When originally setting up the new OS, it failed several times when trying to configure the wireless network, however I was able to skip over this part. When in Kali, there is no option for a wireless adapter anywhere. I used
to check if the wireless adapter was recognized and one showed up: a Broadcom BCM43142. I was able to connect the laptop with ethernet to connect to the internet and try some troubleshooting [I found on the web](https://forums.kali.org/showthread.php?29587-Broadcom-BCM43142-Drivers-on-Kali-Linux&highlight=bcm43142 "Kali Forums BCM43142 Adapter"). However, many of these methods are for older versions (about 8 years old). The version of Kali that I am running is 2024.1. I am assuming that the issue I am encountering is related to a driver missing for this specific adapter, however I am unsure the best way to get these and set up the wireless to let Kali use the adapter and access WiFi. I appreciate any help! Thanks!

I'm using Mint 21 on an HP 17-y002na laptop. It's been connected via ethernet cable for much of the time since I updated to 21, but has had wifi capability at times. Last week I noticed that the symbol showing ethernet connection was absent from my panel, but wired connection still works. Unplugged, I get no wifi options or connection Since then I have tried to sort it to no avail, and I think I may be doing more harm than good, so I'm asking for help. Thank you in advance, Phil Edit 1 - replaced output of all commands with current output Edit 2 - I neglected to include all of the linux-header* i had showing as installed. These were: linux-headers-5.15.0-79 linux-headers-5.15.0-79-generic linux-headers-5.15.0-82 linux-headers-5.15.0-82-generic linux-headers-6.2.0-31-generic linux-headers-generic linux-headers-generic-hwe-20.04 linux-headers-generic-hwe-20.04-edge linux-headers-generic-hwe-22.04 linux-headers-generic-hwe-22.04-edge I have now uninstalled each of the 5.15.0-79* and 5.15.0-82* headers, as well as the linux-headers-generic-hwe-20.04* headers, and rebooted. Software manager informed me I needed to install 5.15.0-82* again, so I did, and uninstalled linux-headers-6.2.0-31-generic, which automatically removed the linux-headers-generic-hwe-22.04*. Rebooted again, and this time Software Manager didn't flag anything up. Still no wifi, but possibly getting closer to a solution?

I have a MacBook Pro 16, and decided to install Pop!_OS on it. My system info is:
OS: Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS x86_64
Host: MacBookPro16,2 1.0
Kernel: 6.2.6-76060206-generic
My Network controller is a Broadcom Wireless Network Adapter (Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries BCM4364 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter). I found the a [helpful page](https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/broadcom_wireless) on the ArchWiki. Running sudo lspci -vnn -d 14e4: to figure out which drivers I need yields the following:
e5:00.0 Network controller : Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries BCM4364 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter [14e4:4464] (rev 04)
Subsystem: Apple Inc. BCM4364 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter [106b:07bf]

	Capabilities: [1b0] Latency Tolerance Reporting
	Capabilities: Physical Resizable BAR
	Capabilities: L1 PM Substates
	Kernel modules: brcmfmac, wl
To Quote the archwiki: > The kernel contains two built-in open-source drivers: brcmfmac for native FullMAC and brcmsmac for mac80211-based SoftMAC. They should be automatically loaded when booting. So it should work (?) But it doesn't. When looking at the blacklisted kernel modules, I found brcmfmac to be blacklisted.
pop-os:~$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-bcm43.conf
# Warning: This file is autogenerated by bcmwl. All changes to this file will be lost.
blacklist b43
blacklist b43legacy
blacklist ssb
blacklist bcm43xx
blacklist brcm80211
blacklist brcmfmac
blacklist brcmsmac
blacklist bcma
I commented it out, saved, and ran sudo update-initramfs -u, but didn't help. Because the Network Card seems to accept the wl driver, I checked if it is loaded ($ lsmod | grep wl), and it seems to be loaded.
wl 6488064 0
cfg80211 1241088 1 wl
brcmfmac however, is not loaded ($ lsmod | grep brcmfmac yields nothing). running $ sudo modprobe brcmfmac loads the module.
$ lsmod | grep brcmfmac
brcmfmac 503808 0
brcmutil 20480 1 brcmfmac
cfg80211 1241088 2 wl,brcmfmac
That's certainly cool, my wifi still doesn't work though. At this point I have no more idea what to do. Here some more detailed network information:

Wi-Fi: too many "Tx excessive retries" and "Invalid misc"

I have an old laptop running LXLE (an Ubuntu-based distro) with a Broadcom BCM4311 Wi-Fi card, and although Wi-Fi connection works, data transfer speed is at roughly half of what it should be when connected to an 802.11g wireless network. I suspect it is because iwconfig reports large numbers of "Tx excessive retries" and "Invalid misc" -- tens of both immediately after boot, thousands after an hour of relatively casual use (email, connection to a remote machine via RDP). The laptop is located near the Wi-Fi AP (ca. 2 m) and iwconfig almost always reports 54 Mb/s bitrate. In spite of this, copying a file from an otherwise idle server on the local network runs at ca. 2 MB/s at best. As for the driver, I am using b43. broadcom-wl also works; however, I see no improvement over b43. IPv6 is disabled, MTU is set to 1492 (determined using http://muzso.hu/2009/05/17/how-to-determine-the-proper-mtu-size-with-icmp-pings ; this value most probably is due to the VDSL internet connection). I also tried to change the network stack configuration ( https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-tcp-tuning/ ), but that made no difference either. The Wi-Fi network is operating on channel 5, while the other two networks are both on channel 11 (a scenario that is quite rare these days, I know...). There are no nearby microwave ovens or other equipment capable of causing significant interference. I never experience such problems in the same LAN (with the same AP) with an even older LXLE laptop containing an Intel Wi-Fi card. This older laptop can easily transfer files from the aforementioned LAN server at 5.5 MB/s over 802.11g, and iwconfig reports zero "Tx excessive retries" and "Invalid misc" there. Is -- perhaps I should write "was" when referencing such ancient hardware -- BCM4311 simply a pain to run under linux without issues? What else can I try to improve the Wi-Fi performance?

It has a Broadcom wireless modem (chip 4331) that works for internet browsing with my current configuration. SSH cliennt will not connect to any host, timing out. I have tested the same connection with two OS X versions, including one on this device, a shell emulator on my iPhone and an Ubuntu linux machine and all work. I am using connman and iwd to connect the wireless. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
