I have [setup](https://gist.github.com/pavinjosdev/0d7ade586e4b4a33d03a19c7684e78ce) the PAM module pam_u2f.so for FIDO2 as the primary authentication method on my LMDE 5 (based on Debian 11) machine. Is there a way to integrate passkey support with this PAM module or with another? Specifically I'm looking for the ability to use Google [passkeys](https://passkeys.dev/device-support/) in addition to my hardware security key (Yubikey). There are several advantages to using a passkey from Google/Apple with the potential privacy downside: 1. The credentials are tied to the Google account and synced across all Google devices, so any device can be used as an authenticator 2. Not tied to a physical object that can be lost/stolen 3. Main point for lazy me: no need to remove a lost/stolen/damaged key from every website and device it's configured on The Chrome browser on Linux sends a push notification via Bluetooth to a nearby Android smartphone for FIDO2/WebAuthn registration/authentication. Can the pam_u2f.so module (or another one) be configured to send a similar request and receive its response instead of relying on a locally connected USB security key?

I'm using Linux Mint Debian Edition (Up. 8) when tryng to start a virtual machine from libvirt (either from commandline or using virt-manager to local qemu-kvm) I get this error when I use an image that is not loaded in the default datastore: if I copy the same image (in this example an .iso file) to the /var/lib/libvirt/images folder it works. I've tried to chown and chmod it to every possible owner and mode but it just won't work. SELinux is not in place in this distro so I don't know where's the point, in logs I can see just permission denied and I'm quite stuck. Under Linux it is common that you can set the number of colours that an AMD or NVidia graphics card or the GPU unit of the CPU should display with the driver of the graphics card. But how do you set the number of colours under a Debian 12 Linux such as LMDE6 if you are using an Intel CPU with its own GPU? According to some internet sources, the number of colours can be set with the following command line: xrandr --output --setcolor 24bit However, this seems to be a misconception that such functionality is offered by xrandr. Starting points for alternative solutions: - Query the graphics type used: lspci -k | grep -EA3 'VGA|3D|Display' - Use an icc.icm color profile file and possibly adjust the number of colors by changing this file. - Modification of the data read out by the system from the display used, which can be decoded with DMI Decode: sudo hwinfo -monitor and sudo dmidecode - Change a file such as /etc/X11/xorg.conf or /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ , neither of which appear to be present in LMDE6 or looks like dont have the follow section. But perhaps about like the follow in a other located file: Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" DefaultDepth 16bit EndSection Remark: Its looks for me, Xorg are used bei LMDE6: No Wayland service looks running on LMDE6, but the well known Xorg service are running. "Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) 6 does not use Wayland as its default display server protocol. Instead, it uses Xorg, which is the traditional choice for Linux desktop environments. The discussion in the Linux Mint forums indicates that while work has begun on integrating Wayland support into Cinnamon, the default desktop environment for Linux Mint, it is not expected to replace Xorg as the default display server anytime soon. The goal is to have a functional Wayland session by around 2026, but until then, Xorg remains the primary choice for LMDE 6 users." Source: https://www.phind.com/search?cache=he0i94eo7k5352vhtuggrz20

This means that they can constantly grow in size for various reasons. What ways are there to limit the growth of the file size of .qcow2 files when used under Debian 12 derivatives such as LMDE6 to a certain value or to be able to achieve a fixed file size? Perhaps they are better ideas, than to use a own partition for every .qcow file. One alternate idea can be possible, to use a file system for storing the .qcow file, which offer to set a quota by folder or by file for the file system, which are used to store the .qcow files. But that's are only ideas on this moment.

Can I use an LMDE-Mint live USB to repair my installed Garuda distro? I broke my Garuda install after updating, and after restoring a snapshot it still won't boot, which, as I understand, is a result of the snapshot using a previous version of the bootloader. I want to use a live USB to chroot and reinstall my bootloader, but my live Garuda is long gone and all I have lying around is LMDE Mint. Is this still possible, even though they are based on different distros, or do I have to recreate a Garuda USB stick?

The file has similarities in structure and tasks to a ".lnk" file under Windows. Two How too`s for creating "launcher" by Linux Mint GUI: * https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/2074 * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CFNCkMKp44 Sample content of a "launcher" (.desktop file): [Desktop Entry] Name=test Exec=bash -c 'xed /home/user/desktop/sample_file.txt' Comment= Terminal=true Icon=cinnamon-panel-launcher Type=Application Name[de_DE]=Sample for a launcher file, which open a textfile, which is located on desktop. **Concretization:** Only a suitable modification of the following command line of the launcher is searched: bash -c 'launcher_path=$(dirname "$(readlink -f "$0")")"/"; echo "$launcher_path"; sleep 100' It is not looking for any additional scripts or modifications of the operating system.

I would like to start spyder from a .desktop shortcut. I am unfortunately unable to start it directly from AnacondaNav, as it stops with a Exit code: 134 message. As an alternative, I installed spyder using: conda update -n base -c defaults conda conda update anaconda conda install spyder=5.4.2 This lets me start spyder with: conda activate spyder-env spyder How do I create a .desktop file with these commands?
I have tried copying/altering various other .desktop and .sh files (with/out #!/bin/bash), but none have worked. System setup: - OS: LMDE 5 / elsie - 5.10.0-21-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 5.10.162-1 - Cinnamon 5.6.8 - Python 3.11.2 - conda 23.3.1 - Spyder IDE 5.4.2 Edit: Tried some suggestions from the comments:
(sh -c) conda activate spyder-env; spyder gives either "There was an error launching the application" or no output at all.
Adding conda act... to .profile activates the python env but running spyder from the .desktop after that does nothing.

And yes: for a few days i have problems with one of systems on my PC -LMDE. Recently i got repaired there one thing as shown here : (https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/646652/mint-a-bunch-of-errors-in-boot) . Now i have yet bigger problem - system ask me password for non-existing user (root) error code is here: Give root password for maintenance (or press Control-D to continue): When i press these button it shows me: Reloading system manager configuration Starting default target You are in emergency mode. After logging in, type “journal -xb” to view system logs, “systemctl reboot” to reboot, “systemctl default” or “exit” to boot into default mode. Give root password for maintenance (or press Control-D to continue) When i chrooted into this OS (with live-boot) i saw that there are problems with sudo and pkexec, so i cant use root even in chroot (and modify system files, etc...) is there any way to boot PC normally or i need to always use “initramfs error” and boot only to busybox cli (i can do that because i accidentally uninstalled grub and now i have cli when booting up pc)? Ps: I didnt setted up root (su) account (no password, user, etc) and i was really messing up with sudo so now i think that this also doesnt exist. ———————————————- Edit: i’ve done it with passwd as @cas said. Now i have bigger problem. My second problem is that all my partition is r/o. Even with modified /etc/fstab to open all partitions as writable. My system didn’t exited cli to the now - system doesn’t load without writable permission and my current (logged-in) user looks like root (have # before command and whoami shows me as root) but it isn’t. When i try mount command they said that i need to have root permission ( how i cant have them when currently i am root?!). Is there something i forgot, all my PC is corrupt or im a real n00b? enter image description here

Some time ago I made my own „OS” based on mint(Debian Based distro). About u week ago I deleted 3rd partition with Ubuntu. Before this weekend I got BSOD on windows, so I'm stuck on mint. And here is my problem with third OS: i deleted accidentally grub. The problem is yet bigger because filesystem was btrfs. I copied all files (even system)to external drive and formatted partition with mint to ext4, then I recopied system and tried with GRUBrepair. As I saw root and sudo was locked (mint doesn’t have su by default), so I tried to repair by myself. Now system is stuck between: grub shell, busybox shell (initramfs error), live boot mint and „shell”with prompt for root password (i didnt setted up that YET). Is there a way to boot PC normally? Or i’m stuck on live-boot? I don’t have space for installing third OS (space which stayed after deleting ubuntu was joined to windows) and my PC is yet on guarantee... (yet worse but guarantee is only for physical things, OOF)🙄 PS: bios on my pc is „aptio setup utility”, there is no way to disable uefi and i can’t: boot rescueCD from pendrive and/or boot pc from external HDD. I don’t have external CD/DVD reader. Thanks for answer (if any) Here are all commands in busybox i can use : enter image description here Actually I didn't have fsck. So, after lot of tries I found reiserfsck instead of fsck I don't know how to run for checking partitions. So, I added a picture of it : enter image description here When I tried reiserfsck --check /dev/sda6 I got some error : enter image description here Now i have another errrrrrrorrrr, I'm stuck on screen which asks me for password of non-existing user : enter image description here

But it does not work when trying to use Firefox or Google Chrome in sites like Google Meet or webcamtests.com . Chrome does not even find the camera. Firefox, find the camera (webcamtests.com), lists it, but does not play (the message is shown: "AbortError: Starting video failed"). I allowed Firefox to use the camera when asked.

Adding PPAs is not supported
i asked about it here , anyway i tried to install v5 of it as recommended here , but as i mentioned i can not install it with it self site instruction. so i like to know where is the source file of the kicad V5 and or is it possible to install it via bash like: sudo apt install kicad=5 but there is only Kicad V4 as i said above: is this because Linux server setting, or is because i am from Iran( with many ISP filters from government side or international sanctions policy) . Update: based of this question some more information about my system setting:

Problem with GRUB for dual-boot installation of LMDE 2 (and Windows) on encrypted luks-lvm (truecrypt)

I'm trying to install LMDE 2 'Betsy' 64-Bit dual-booting with Windows 8.1 and both systems encrypted separately, Windows with truecrypt and LMDE with luks. When booting I want to be asked for the truecrypt volumes password and when I press Esc GRUB should start and boot the encrypted Linux. I want to have a LVM partition for my data which will be my home directory in Linux and which I plan to access with https://github.com/t-d-k/LibreCrypt . My problem is that I can't get GRUB working. Most of the following steps I took from https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/system_verschl%C3%BCsseln and changed them to fit my needs. Here is my setup although Windows is not encrypted yet: /dev/sda1 Windows Recovery ntfs /dev/sda2 Boot ext4 300MiB /dev/sda3 Windows 8.1 truecrypt /dev/sda4 crypt-luks crypt-luks And here is what I did: Boot LMDE 2 from USB stick. Select German as language. Do the other stuff until I have to select a partition. There I enter Expert Mode where I get asked to mount my target System under /Ziel but it needs to be /target. I start to get the system ready with: cryptsetup -c aes-xts-plain64 -s 512 -h sha512 luksFormat /dev/sda4 cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda4 lukslvm pvcreate /dev/mapper/lukslvm vgcreate vglmde /dev/mapper/lukslvm Then I create my logical volumes: lvcreate -L 8G -n swap vglmde lvcreate -L 25G -n root vglmde lvcreate -l 100%FREE -n home vglmde I format these partitions with labels: mkswap /dev/mapper/vglmde-swap -L swap mkfs.ext4 /dev/mapper/vglmde-root -L root mkfs.ext4 /dev/mapper/vglmde-home -L home Then I mount the logical root partition in /target to continue installing: mkdir /target mount /dev/mapper/vglmde-root /target mkdir /target/boot mount /dev/sda2 /target/boot mkdir /target/home mount /dev/mapper/vglmde-home /target/home Then I continue the installation. When asked I choose that GRUB should be installed in /dev/sda2 because that is my boot partition. After the dialog Installation paused shows up, I perform the following steps: mount -o rbind /dev /target/dev mount -t proc proc /target/proc Here I get the message that proc is already mounted on /target/proc mount -t sysfs sys /target/sys Here it says that sys is already mounted or /target/sys is busy. cp /etc/resolv.conf /target/etc/resolv.conf chroot /target /bin/bash Then I make sure the required packages are up-to-date. apt-get update apt-get install cryptsetup lvm2 To set up the /etc/crypttab I first get the UUID and then append to the crypttab replacing with the UUID. blkid /dev/sda4 echo "lukslvm UUID= none luks" >> /etc/crypttab Then I append some necessary modules. echo "dm-crypt" >> /etc/modules echo "ohci_pci" >> /etc/initramfs-tools/modules update-initramfs -u -k all -t And I edit the /etc/fstab . echo "/dev/sda2 /boot ext4 defaults 0 2" >> /etc/fstab echo "/dev/mapper/vglmde-root / ext4 defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1" >> /etc/fstab echo "/dev/mapper/vglmde-swap none swap sw 0 0" >> /etc/fstab echo "/dev/mapper/vglmde-home /home/ ext4 defaults 0 2" >> /etc/fstab Then I update GRUB and leave chroot. update-grub exit sync And continue the installation. When asked if I want to reboot I say yes and... ...at reboot I get the following output: error: no such partition Entering rescue mode... grub rescue> Now I can't figure out where I went wrong. Am I right that GRUB should have loaded normally when there is no other boot-able partition? P.S. When debugging the following commands let you use the installed system when on a live disc. Mounting the encrypted Volume cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda4 lukslvm Search and add the volume groups. vgscan vgchange -a y Mount the volumes as usual mount /dev/mapper/vglmde-root /mnt
