App whitelist in stock android
Is there a way to create a whitelist for apps in stock android? Ie. I would like to limit what apps are possible to launch, for example by password protecting them. Anything resembling kiosk modes or family locking is of interest. If possible I would like to accomplish this without third party apps.

There is a setting in Huawei phones that allow you to add applications as protected. Huawei's Protected apps feature 1. What is that setting mean? Are there other vendors that have a similar feature? 2. I've noticed that some applications by default added to protected (such as Instagram for example). How is it done? Where I can find the full list of such applications? Is this means that Huawei as vendor trusts those packages?

I am using adb to backup some applications' data from my old phone to my new one. It worked fine for all apps except the one I purchased, it took me a while to figure that out since Android and its log were not showing any errors, instead it was telling me that the backup is complete and the log says: D/BackupManagerService( 2121): Full backup processing complete. D/BackupManagerService( 2121): Full backup pass complete. and the generated backup file has a size of 549B (bytes) Note: it says "Full" but it actually for a single package. After searching I now know that Google added some kind of protection in Android 4.1+ to prevent people from coping protected applications between phones. However, I am not interested in backing up the apk itself as I can download the app from Google Play Store, instead I want to backup the data so I can restore it in my new phone and not have to deal with setting the application again. Is there a way to do that without needing root access to the device? Note: the old device is Nexus 4 (5.1.1 Cyanogen + root), while the new one is Nexus 6P (6.0 stock, no root).

I've been using the app SystemPanel for some time now to archive my Android apps. It works great, but it cannot archive apps that have been installed under /data/app-private, because this directory is not world-readable. I recently rooted my HTC Incredible and have Superuser running on it, so I would like to give root access to SystemPanel, but it doesn't request it. Is there a way to have Superuser grant root access to an app that does not request it? Alternatively, is there any other way (e.g. from the terminal) to grant root access to an arbitrary app? Thanks! P.S. I know that now I can change the permissions on /data/app-private to make it accessible to SystemPanel, but I think granting root access to SystemPanel would be the safer strategy.

How does Android handle tablet specific apps and how do you distinguish these apps? I know there are Android apps that only work on Tablet devices (they say there are currently 16) and wont work on phones. There is a similar relationship between the iPad and iPhone but in the iTunes app store there are distinct iPad and iPhone tabs. There doesn't appear to be the same type of distinction in the Android Market that will allow me to browse Tablet specific apps.

How does the device knows an app is installed before?
Some apps gives premium support for some limited time. If I uninstalled and installed it next time I couldn't get the same features. How does the application keeps a record of the device? And is it possible to prevent it?

I have an unrooted Archos 70IT with the market add-on app and there's a number of apps that I can find in the Market on my Droid but not on my Archos. They are likely "protected apps" which can only be installed on devices approved by the apps dev. To get around this I just download them to my Droid, save to Dropbox then install on my Archos. These apps work just fine, so rather than be "protected" from "incompatible" apps and having to do backflips to get the apps I want, I'd like to trick the Market into thinking I'm on a Droid or some other ubiquitous Android device. Is there anyway of doing this a) at all, and b) on an unrooted device? If so, how?
