Brother MFC-L2710DW mysteriously stopped printing

I'm trying to use Brother MFC-L2710DW multifunction printer/scanner with my Devuan ASCII machine (which is just like Debian Stretch but without systemd). At first, this seemed to work: I printed a couple of test pages, I scanned, life was good. (This was over wireless with a fixed IP address for the printer.) Now, a few days later, I'm trying to print again - and nothing gets printed! The notices which come up (I use Cinnamon, CUPS) say the job has been sent to the printer, and the queue is empty, but the printer says it's sleeping and does nothing. The printer responds to pinging to its IP address. It also manages to scan images just fine. I tried connecting the printer via USB, and supposedly this succeeded - but again, no pages come out. I used the printer's test print function (not through the computer), and that's fine too. Finally, I've now used my laptop (running Lubuntu 18.04) to test: Made the same installation, and a test page prints. What's going on and how can I get my Devuan system to print again? **Edit:** Still seeing this all the way to 2025. I often have to reinstall the printer driver, which often works; then the newly-reinstalled printer stops printing again after a while.

I have a raspberry pi 3 with laterst raspberry pi OS, webmin, samba, and cups installed on it. Have a brother HL-L2300D laserjet hooked up with USB. The printer is listed on the printers page of CUPS. I am having issue with getting the right driver installed on the CUPS server. Downloaded the CUPS driver from the brother website and it had a PPD file that I could use, print test pages doesn't work and when I try to use my tablet I can see the printer listed but again not printing occurs. I know that I am in kind of unchartered territory here. But any help would be greatly appreciated. Doing this for my mom, she got rid of all her PC's and get a new iphone and IPAD so trying to setup this web print server for her so she can print from these devices to this brother laserjet.

I use a Debian Testing system that is about a month old. In the office there is a Brother DCP 9022 CDW available *over network*. Using a Kubuntu 24.04 live stick the printer is available without any further actions. As soon as I am attached to the LAN, the printer is detected and I was able to print a test page. I did not even have to add it myself. I suspected the difference might be a missing package. Thus, I compared the list of installed packages reported by apt list --installed for Kubuntu Live and Debian Testing. Unfortunately, it did not help. In case I missed something, I include the list of packages which are available on Kubuntu only:

What can I do to make it available on Debian Testing? I'd like to avoid installing Brother's drivers, as this was not required on Kubuntu.

How to print on endless paper on a CUPS printer using lp/lpr?

The Situation ----------------- I'm trying to print on a [Brother QL-570](https://support.brother.com/g/b/producttop.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=lpql570eus "Brother support page") I set up on a Raspberry Pi using CUPS. The printer is working well using lp -d Brother_QL-570 test.pdf. However, when I insert an endless label (a 30m long, 62mm wide label) I want it to print the exact length of the pdf file. For example, if the pdf provided has a format of 62x200, I want the printer to produce a 62mmx200mm long label. If I use my Windows machine this works, but with lp, it doesn't. lpoptions -p Brother_QL-570 -l yields the following: https://pastebin.com/yBJHw7a7 . CUPS has [these settings](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1R5uMX46Qfb52yDMFanejrm6Em7EVoYKj/view?usp=sharing) The printed label is always 62mmx100mm. I did use brpapertoollpr_ql570 -P Brother_QL-570 -n long_label -w 62 -h 200 in combination with lpr -P Brother_QL-570 -o media=long_label test.pdf to successfully to print 62mmx200mm labels, but creating a new media size for every new pdf I want to print would be quite tedious. Log files ----------------- Job 26 is from windows (working) Job 27 is from lpr (too short) [CUPS error_log](https://pastebin.com/SUdu1wDj) printjob-data captured following [this guide](https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems#Capturing_print_job_data) job 26 job 27

I would like to install printer and scan drivers for Brother wireless printers on linux distro (no matter if dpkg or rpm based) without installer Brother supports ("Driver Install Tool"). Therefore I'd like to understand the installer to perform only necessary steps. Printer, scanner and fax drivers for Brother printers as well as the Driver Install Tool can be downloaded from their site (e.g. MFC-L2730DW ). I tried to read the installation script and it looks like it does at least: * install udev rules sample for Brother MFP (/etc/udev/rules.d/${number}-brother-libsane-type1-inst.rules) * install libusb-0.1-4 if not available * detect printer and scan * install some script dependencies (mawk for Debian) * in the end runs wget and dpkg -i --force-all (for Debian/Ubuntu based distros) or rpm -ihv --nodeps --replacefiles --replacepkgs (for rpm based distros) Could anybody describe what exactly the script does step by step? One can decide what are the necessary steps.

Printer won't connect via DNS-SD, "unreachable"
I am trying to install a networked printer (Brother HL-L2390DW). The Add Printer dialog finds it without issue, but no means of installing it allows it to work. I've tried the Brother drivers, IPP driverless, and the `brlaser` alternative OSS driver.

I have reinstalled Kubunutu 18.10 the previous week. After the reinstallation I cannot make my scanner work. I have a Brother DCP-9010CN scanner/printer on a network location. I installed the driver and the printer works out of the box. The scanner has been found by brscan-skey -l, the result of this is: DCP-9010CN : brother3:net1;dev0 : 192.168.0.43 Active brsaneconfig3 -q results in Devices on network 0 DCP-9010CN "DCP-9010CN" I:192.168.0.43 During the installation the only error it gives is: Packet 'ia32-libs' does not have a candidate for installation Trying to find the scanner from SANE using scanimage -L and sane-find-scanner does not give any results. When I check on the scanner itself it finds my computer. But when I push from the device to my computer the computer starts the app but does not scan anything. I cannot find anything wrong in this installation. The driver install tool I used came from Brother themselves. The commands that I used for installing the drivers are: sudo su bash {untarred driver file} DCP-9010CN On all the questions of the installer I answered 'Yes'. How do I register my scanner in Simple Scan?
Recently I decided to switch from Windows 10 to Linux Mint 20.1. When I open up the Document Scanner utility it says that it cannot detect any scanners. I have a Brother MFC-L2700DW. Although it isn't recognized as a scanner, it does show up as a printer.

I just bought a Brother QL-800 label printer with a 62mm wide continuous tape roll installed. Trying to make use of the continuous tape, I wanted to add an individual paper size (a custom length, in that case). Alas, all paper lengths fail except those provided in the default PPD (which are 29mm and 100m), with a red flashing light on the printer. CUPS does not recognize the problem and reports a successful print. Does anyone know how to tackle this issue? As I cannot even read the error message from the printer, I feel pretty lost with this. I am aware of What's the easiest way to add custom page sizes to a .ppd? on Stack Overflow and also of the brpapertoollpr_ql800 tool from Brother . I wrote myself a script to manipulate the PPD file. If I start with a blank file and add 62mmx29mm and 62mmx100mm, they print fine. All other sizes fail.

--brightness -50..50% (in steps of 1) [inactive]
Controls the brightness of the acquired image.
--contrast -50..50% (in steps of 1) [inactive]
Controls the contrast of the acquired image.

     --SkipBlankPage[=(yes|no)] [inactive]

--SkipBlankPageSensitivity 0..100% (in steps of 1) [inactive]
Why is that option "unrecognized"? Does it have to do with the option being marked as "advanced"? Bonus question: how would I enable the "inactive" options? E.g. SkipBlankPage? I know my scanner supports this, but I have no idea how to enable it...

Printing on a Rasperry Pi with CUPS and a Brother MFC
I have installed a Brother MFC Printer (DCP-9055CDN) on a Rasperry Pi 400. Printing works but there is always an additional page with one single line printed 'Box86 with Dynarec v.0.2.1 aa7b620d built on Apr 7 2021 17:38:04). What can I do to suppress this additional page?

I'm on Artix Linux (runit version) and have the drivers installed from the AUR. system-config-printer detects the printer, and I'm able to add it in that frontend. However, when I try to print anything at all, no data is received. The error logs say No pages found!. The full error log is below:

I removed the JobPrivateAccess, JobPrivateValues, SubscriptionPrivateAccess, and SubscriptionPrivateValues directives from my /etc/cups/cupsd.conf but it seems that they reappeared. The concerning part comes from the next few lines about CreateDevice and CreateProfile. Also, I am certain that it isn't a permissions issue, since I tried printing a test page as root and it still didn't work. Has anyone else had this problem and solved it?

I used the Driver Installation tool provided on https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=eu_ot&lang=en&prod=hl2240d_all&os=128 and followed the steps to install the lpr and cupswrapper. Afterwards the printer showed up in the Raspbian printer config and in CUPS, so I tried to hit the **Test Print** button as well as sending a simple text file through
-d HL2240D /usr/share/cups/data/testprint
. All of this works, the queue counts up my attempts and is cleared after some seconds, but the printer does not spit out any page.
-p
shows my printer is idle and if I am unplugging the USB and send another print request, it shows
for the printer to become available
, plugging it in, it becomes available, but doesn't print. What am I doing wrong and what else could I check?

To configure , I performed following steps: 1. Installed lpr and cups driver from here 2. Ran "system-config-printer" 3. Clicked on add printer - printer got detected and added 4. Print test page worked as well Now the issue is when I open system settings and go to printer menu, it says no printer available. Also, I tried printing some documents but no printer is detected and it saves then on PDF only. Although printer is added and self test worked but its still not getting detected by libre office/system. Tried this solution https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/457972/how-do-i-get-brother-printer-drivers-to-work-on-fedora , but did not work for me.

The existing banner files are all world-readable (including the complete path), but there is no banner none. Creating an empty file, does not change anything and I guess that no such file is actually necessary. ## Some Background The printer is a Brother MFC-J470DW connected to via USB and network. The same problems occurs when I send the print job via the network. The printer used to work with Ubuntu 19.04, but since an upgrade (not a reinstall) to Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS (Focal Fossa) it doesn't work anymore. This printer requires the installation of drivers from Brother. In the old Ubuntu installation, these used to be installed with the Brother installer linux-brprinter-installer-2.1.1-1. After the upgrade Brother installer linux-brprinter-installer-2.2.2-1 is used. ## Packages & Versions * I used the printer driver install script linux-brprinter-installer-2.2.2-1, which downloaded and installed * brscan4-0.4.9-1.amd64.deb * brscan-skey-0.3.1-1.amd64.deb * mfcj470dwcupswrapper-3.0.0-1a.i386.deb * mfcj470dwcupswrapper-3.0.0-1.i386.deb * mfcj470dwlpr-3.0.0-1a.i386.deb * mfcj470dwlpr-3.0.0-1.i386.deb * More possibly relevant versions $ dpkg -l hplip "cups*" Gewünscht=Unbekannt/Installieren/R=Entfernen/P=Vollständig Löschen/Halten | Status=Nicht/Installiert/Config/U=Entpackt/halb konFiguriert/ Halb installiert/Trigger erWartet/Trigger anhängig |/ Fehler?=(kein)/R=Neuinstallation notwendig (Status, Fehler: GROSS=schlecht) ||/ Name Version Architektur Beschreibung +++-=========================-================-============-=================================================================== ii cups 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1 amd64 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - PPD/driver support, web interface ii cups-browsed 1.27.4-1 amd64 OpenPrinting CUPS Filters - cups-browsed ii cups-bsd 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1 amd64 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - BSD commands ii cups-client 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1 amd64 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - client programs (SysV) ii cups-common 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1 all Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - common files ii cups-core-drivers 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1 amd64 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - driverless printing ii cups-daemon 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1 amd64 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - daemon ii cups-filters 1.27.4-1 amd64 OpenPrinting CUPS Filters - Main Package ii cups-filters-core-drivers 1.27.4-1 amd64 OpenPrinting CUPS Filters - Driverless printing un cups-filters-ippusbxd (keine Beschreibung vorhanden) ii cups-ipp-utils 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1 amd64 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - IPP developer/admin utilities un cups-pdf (keine Beschreibung vorhanden) ii cups-pk-helper 0.2.6-1ubuntu3 amd64 PolicyKit helper to configure cups with fine-grained privileges ii cups-ppdc 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1 amd64 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - PPD manipulation utilities ii cups-server-common 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1 all Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - server common files rc hplip 3.20.3+dfsg0-2 amd64 HP Linux Printing and Imaging System (HPLIP)

When I was using Ubuntu 16.04, duplex printing worked like a charm with my Brother DCP-J4120DW. However, I switched to Kubuntu 18.04. This makes Okular the default document viewer and also my document viewer of choice. On Ubuntu, I mainly used Ubuntu's default PDF viewer Evince and duplex printing always worked after I configured the printer that way in Ubuntu's printer settings. I set the option "Two-Sided" in Kubuntu's printer settings to "Short-Edge Binding". However, this seems to have had little effect as Okular prints non-duplex by default. If I change the option in Okular to short-edge-bound duplex printing, it works. But it doesn't remember this choice. I checked the default printing options of Evince and Evolution and they say that two-sided printing is "Not available". How can I make applications print two-sided by default? I only care about this one printer as I only use one.

How do I get Brother printer drivers to work on Fedora?

I have two Brother printers : a QL-1050 label printer (USB-plugged) and an MFC-9330CDW (wifi). Both work fine with an Ubuntu laptop, but I struggle to get them to print under Fedora 28 (actually had the same issue with F23 but never managed to fix the issue). I downloaded the official drivers on the Brother website : mfc9330cdwcupswrapper.i386 mfc9330cdwlpr.i386 ql1050cupswrapper.i386 ql1050lpr.i386 I also installed the following 32 bit packages, since Brother doesn't bother providing 64 bit drivers : glibc.i686 libgcc.i686 libstdc++.i686 nss-softokn-freebl.i686 Both printers are correctly detected by CUPS, but neither will print, be it through lpr, evince, eog, firefox… The job silently disappears from the queue, but nothing is printed and the printer never actually reacts. This is probably because the Brother filter fails silently, as hinted by the CUPS logs in debug level : $ journalctl -u cups … juil. 23 17:14:24 Schenker cupsd: [Job 36] PID 17877 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftops) exited with no errors. juil. 23 17:14:24 Schenker cupsd: [Job 36] /usr/lib/cups/filter/brother_lpdwrapper_mfc9330cdw : ligne 133 : 17902 Erreur de segmentation /opt/brother/Printers/mfc9330cdw/cupswrapper/brcupsconfpt1 MFC9330CDW $PPDC $LOGCLEVEL \"$CUPSOPTION\" \"mfc9330cdw\" $BRPRINTERRCFILE >> $LOGFILE juil. 23 17:14:24 Schenker cupsd: [Job 36] /opt/brother/Printers/mfc9330cdw/lpd/filtermfc9330cdw : ligne 63 : 17914 Fini eval cat $INPUT_TEMP juil. 23 17:14:24 Schenker cupsd: [Job 36] 17915 | $PSCONV $PSCONV_OP juil. 23 17:14:24 Schenker cupsd: [Job 36] 17916 Erreur de segmentation | $BRCONV $BRCONV_OP juil. 23 17:14:24 Schenker cupsd: [Job 36] PID 17878 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/brother_lpdwrapper_mfc9330cdw) exited with no errors. … (As you have probably guessed, "Erreur de segmentation" is the French for "segmentation fault".) **My guess is that the driver is trying to use 64 bit libraries instead of the 32 bit ones. How do I check that, and/or what could I do to force it to use 32 bit libs ?** Edit : Apparently they do use the 32 bit libraries : $ ldd /opt/brother/Printers/mfc9330cdw/cupswrapper/brcupsconfpt1 linux-gate.so.1 (0xf7ed4000) libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0xf7d10000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xf7ed6000) I have to mention I have read [this FAQ](https://support.brother.com/g/s/id/linux/en/faq_prn.html?c=us_ot&lang=en&comple=on&redirect=on#f00081) and that brother_lpdwrapper_mfc9330cdw *does* exist in *both* /usr/lib/cups/filter/ and /usr/lib64/cups/filter/. The former is actually used (indeed I was able to change the debug level in it).

Brother DCP9015CDW scanner - no ideas
Does anyone know how to make this scanner work with Linux? I can print using it - connected with USB, but no scan program can see its SANE drive, even when fully on (not in standby).
